Linking Airport Eztreme with Airport Express

I want to be able to play my music through my Hi Fi amp, I have my express plugged in and leads into the the amp, (I know this works as it did before I got the Extreme kit). Now I have brought an Extreme and this is now configured correctly but I cannot play music from my laptop through Express of my amp when I am online using the Extreme. Basically when I go into network connections and then view available networks, I can only choose one to use, how do I get around this so I can play music and be on the internet at the same time?
Is there a way to get them to talk to each other or do I need to buy another bit of kit?

Hello rupbar. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
You just need to add the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a "client" to your existing 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station's (AEBSn) wireless network.,,
AirPort Express Base Station (AX) - iTunes Setup
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
AirPort > Base Station
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
o Allow configuration over Ethernet WAN port: (checked)
AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
o Network Name: <existing AEBSn's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
Music
o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o Enable AirTunes over Ethernet: (optional)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX

  • Linking airport express with other airport express or belkin base

is it possible to link my airport express with another and thus have wireless coming from both?
if not, can it be done with anything other than an apple base, namely Belkin?
any help would be appreciated. thanks

You can link two Express units in a WDS network, by configuring one to extend the wireless network of the other.
Airport Express units can extend a Belkin wireless network if you are using a Belkin F5D7230-4 or F5D7231.

  • Link Airport Express to an AirPort Time Capsule to use Airplay?

I am thinking about getting an 2GB AirPort Time Capsule. I use the Airplay feature on my Airport Express that is not part of the AirPort Time Capsule and that is the only reason I have not replaced the Airport Express with the Airport Time Capsule. Has anyone had any experience in setting up a these two units to do what they do together? Any potential problems linking these two units together?

If your intent is to use the new Time Capsule as your "main" Internet router, and then, use the Express for iTunes streaming this can be done without any real issues.
Please check out the following Apple Support article on how to configure an AirPort Express for iTunes.

  • Linking 2 tables with Sql Expressions or add command

    Hi
I want to make a custom table using a union all using cr2008 but I'm unable to find/enable the sql expressios field? It's just not there?
I've tried using the add command is the database expert but I cant see how to get this work.. I have 2 data sources that each consist of identical tables (but different data).  I have 2 tables I want to link:
    datasource1 statstable
    datasource2 statstable
    So I want to do:
    SELECT * FROM datasource1 statstable
    UNION ALL
    SELECT * FROM datasource2 statstable
but it wont let me do this as the 2 stats tables are in different datasouces.
I would really appreciate any help you can give me.
    thanks

you can not do this unless you use busines views.
you can not create one report based on two different datasources using crystal reports,
my advice to you to solve this problem
start to look for the "business views"
which allow you to create a strucutre based on many different datasources, you create 2 connections for your datasources and map them in the view.
then you use those business views in crysal reports to create you report.
it may looks complicated, but i admit its too easy and not hard.
you can get a small book about business views manager which comes with BO XI R2 or Xi 3.0
from the business objects support site.
i hope it was clear for you
    good luck

  • Very slow download speed with Airport Express

    Hi.
I've recently experienced painfully slow downlink (download) speed using Airport Express.
    My WiFi configuration:
    - main router: WRT54G connected to my provider (speed limit: 4Mbit up/down link),
    - AirPort Express with WiFi N and Airtunes hooked up to stereo in living room,
    - AirPort Express WiFi G and Airtunes connected to stereo on bedroom.
Second Airport is currently not used to simplify tests and description of my problem.
The problem: when connecting from MacBook to Airport Express I can't reach more than approx. 512kbit downloading from internet, usually even 300kbit, while uplink reaches easily 2.5Mbit (limited probably by my network provider). While connected to WRT54G I can get 2.5 up to 4Mbit downlink, same when using cable directly plugged in to WRT54G.
I tried changing channels, switching different options in Airport with no effect - still getting pathetic download speeds. Even worse - browsing experience is awful, with frequent slowdowns, etc.
I tried different encryption methods, and seems like only switching it off at all (unprotected network) seems to let my Airport work on full speed (2.5Mbits symmetrically up/down, up to 4Mbits - provider speed limit) - which is unacceptable, I refuse to set up and use unprotected network at home.
Problem is clearly in Airport or in interaction between Airport and Macbook. I've just ran out of ideas - can you help me?

I can't offer any help with your problem except for the fact that mine has recently done the exact same thing. It's ridiculous, for months and months it was extremely fast and then all of a sudden it takes 20 minutes to open a simple browser page. Something is definitely wrong with the airport because all other wireless internet connections from other routers are as usual. \

  • Simultaneous Playback to Computer and Airport Express

As others have posted it appears possible with iTunes 6.0.2 to play to both a Computer and an Airport Express.
I have an Airport Express in my Kitchen, which has been updated with the Airport Setup Assistance.
If I shift-click on the speakers drop-down in iTunes to pick "Kitchen", I get the following:
"The current remote speaker "Kitchen" does not support playback as part of a group. Do you want to switch playback to the computer?"
Any thoughts and ideas are welcome. I've tested this on a Mac mini and a dual G4, both running 10.4.4 and iTunes 6.0.2. The Mac mini has an Airport Extreme card.

My original problem has been resolved. I ended up doing a hard reset of my Airport Express, then running the AirPort Express Firmware Updater. After re-establishing connection to my wireless network, I now get the Multiple Speakers option. Some links:

  • After upgrading 10.8.3 airport utility stops support airport express

An old airport express ( 2005 mentions the label on the back), used for airplay is not recognized anymore after upgrading to os 10.8.3 . airport utility states it doesn’t support this base station and simply advises : Go to AirPort Service and Support for more information. There I do not find any solution  for this problem. There will be more people with older hardware which are in need for continuing support. Who helps?

thanks for reply, this way-around works. I used the link Airport Express and Airport Utility after posting  my question. still one detail?  the amberlight flashes all the time while  the music comes through. is there still something wrong?  is there a need to save the other files with appear when unpacking without installer? ( preferences for library and a ( empty/invisible) map for system? of can i discard those?

  • D-Link DIR-615 (Rev H1(!)) does not work with Airport Express?

    Hi there,
I had my AirPlay working just fine with my Airport Express (AX) and my wireless N Router D-Link DIR-615 (Rev. B2). Now I changed my Internet provider and received a D-Link DIR-615 (Rev. H1) and I cannot find my AX anymore (I mean, it's still here, but the AirPort Utility cant find it!)
Are there known issues between those two?
(The Rev. H1/B2 is the Hardware Version of my D-Link DIR-615. The Firmware is up-to-date (8.01 I think))
The status light is a solid, beautiful green.
    I already tried the following:
    - restart the AX, the D-Link and my MacBook (10.7.2)
    - changed from AES to TKIP (found that somewhere in the internet)
    - Reseted my AX to factory settings and configured everything new. (via Ethernet)
    Probably interesting:
    - After resetting to factory settings and configuring everything new, the AX showed up in iTunes, but when I tried to connect with it, it kept me waiting for 1-3 Minutes and simply did not connect w/o error message. The AX disappeared after restarting iTunes.
    I'm running out of solutions..
Anyone a good question/suggestion or answer for me?
    greetings
    squob

Only way I see out other than waiting, is to hook he Drive to a Mac, (FW preferable for speed), then get Tri-Backup...

Which can be set to trigger Backups when Shares mount.

  • I currently have a D-Link DI-604 broadband router with windows computers.  How can I add wifi to the network for use with ipad?  Can I use AirPort Express?

I currently have a D-Link DI-604 broadband router with windows computers.  How can I add wifi to the network for use with ipad?  Can I use AirPort Express?

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

  • Airport Express with D-Link router?

I bought an Airport Express with the specific purpose of connecting an old 1999 iMac to the internet (D-Link wireless router) via the ethernet port. I also thought I could use it to connect other ethernet devices such as my HD-DVD player.
I tried to configure the Express with my PowerBook to discover later in the instructions that the ethernet port is disabled when configuring the unit as wireless bridge/client. It sounds odd, becuase I can't understand the use of it, then. The range extender configuration which enables ethernet, apparently only works with an Airport base station. I admit I'm not very networking-savvy. Did I do something wrong? Am I understanding the instructions correctly?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...so it very unlikely that your D-Link router can be extended wirelessly with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
The few that are known to work are:
o another Airport Express Base Station
o 802.11g Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS)
o 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)
    o Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not v5)
    o Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    o BT Voyager 2091
    o Netgear WGR614 v6
    o Buffalo WGR-G54

  • Can you help with D-link and two airport express stations

I currently run a Dlink 604 wireless and 1 Airport express for iTunes in my front room.
A Express is also linked to the Dlink via a cable.
All works fine - G4 dual running OS x 10.3.9
I would like help with a couple of things please:-
    1. I have no current security on my Express, so anybody can use the net connection through it. How do I change this and still be able to use my tower and laptop?
    2. I have a second Express from work that I would like to use upstairs. It does work but requires me to swap the network to use it for iTunes and then I have no internet.
It was formatted at work so has different ip numbers etc.
Can I make this station join my exisitng network?
As my lap top is wireless will I be able to surf through it upstairs?
    Thanks
    JohnO

    1. You need to open the Express's configuration in Airport Admin Utility and change the Wireless Security settings to WEP or, preferably, WPA or WPA2. When you attempt to connect to the network from your computers, you will be prompted for the password.
    2. The easiest thing to do is to hard reset the second Express and then use the Airport Setup Assistant to configure the second Express to join and extend the first Express's network. To do a hard reset, hold down the reset button until the LED starts flashing rapidly.
BTW, I know it can work because I have the exact same setup (D-Link DI-604 and two Expresses in an extended wireless network).

  • Airport Express with D Link DIR-300 in client mode failure.

I just want my Airport Express to join my current network from a D-Link DIR-300 wireless router in order to use airplay. I use the Airport Utility and appear to successfully set up the device. When it is waiting for the airport to restart, it times out and is unable to locate the AE unless I reset the device and start over. The AE flashes turns green, then begins to flash yellow.
What can I do to make this work. I just want to send music the AE, and be on my existing wifi.

Chances are, the Wireless Security settings on your D-Link router and the settings that you are choosing on the AirPort Express do not match up correctly. The result is that the AirPort Express cannot successfully "join" the D-Link wireless network.
To verify if this may be the issue, temporarily turn off the wireless security on the D-Link router and check to see if the AirPort Express can connect that way. If it can, then you know that you have a security setting issue between your router and the AirPort Express.
What are the available security settings on the D-Link router that you are using? We'll try to provide you with a corresponding match for the AirPort Express if you can post back that info.

  • Airport Express (using AirTunes) with D-Link 614+ Router

I have the following issue with my Airport Express not able to stream audio to iTunes. My configuration is an existing D-Link 614+ Wifi Router and I joined the Airport Express to my existing wifi network.
I found a thread that says D-Link routers uses the 192.168... IP range and Airport Express uses the 10.0... IP range. I followed the advice and used the workaround to reset the Airport Express to also an IP in the 192.168 range.
The light turns green on the airport express, but I can't see the remote speaker button on iTunes (version 6.0.1). I am able to go into my router and see that the Airport Express received an IP = 192.168.0.3. But using my iBook and the Airport Utility, I can't see the Airport express, but if I choose "other" and type in the IP address, I am able to open and configure and checked the remote speaker box and name it "Living Room". I open up iTunes, but I still don't see the remote speaker button in the lower right? Does anyone know what might be the problem?
    Thanks,
    David

Too bad... because that would have been an easy solution to the problem if it had been the cause.
It seems you have properly configured your Airport Express as a client on the D-Link router's wireless network - otherwise your Mac would not be able to communicate with it at all. Unfortunately, it seems something is still blocking communication between the Airport Express and your Mac - which explains why (a) the Airport Admin Utility is unable to automatically "see" the location of your Airport Express and (b) iTunes is unable to automatically "see" the location of your Airport Express.
At this point, I cannot see an obvious cause to your problem (other than observing that D-Link router owners seem to be more than their share of obscure configuration issues). Some have commented that a setting on the D-Link router for "long" vs "short" preamble is an issue. I'm not really sure the "subnet switch" workaround described in Ewen's article is really that important, and on that theory you might try doing a hard reset of your Airport Express and following the alternative configuration instructions for the Airport Express as described in this discussion by David Lovell (also works for Macs):

  • Airport Express with D-link 624+ wireless router.

Have got a D-link wireless router connected. Wireless internet works fine on its own, but I cannot connect the apple airport express to the wireless internet, so I have to keep switching connections and am unable to use the internet at the same time as streming music to my stereo....what am I doing wrong?
please help me. I thought I knew computer gear, but was SOOOO wrong.

I had a DL 624+ (and have since abandoned it). I had a lot of instability problems with it, which seemed to be related to the Dlink DHCP implementation. I was watching the log on the router, and I was seeing the dlink constantly re-issuing DHCP addresses to the macs on the network - it would renew the addresses twice a minute.
I had seen some posts which suggested that there were problems with either long DHPC client names, or client names which had non-alphanumeric characters in them. (Note if your machine name has spaces, this could happen.)
So, you might want to try:
-Assigning static IP addresses and see if the problem goes away
-checking your DHCP client names to make sure they are between 8-12 characters
    Hope this helps!
