Linking BW report outputs with VC story board output

Hi Everyone,
I have a scenario where I have display list of report names in VC output screen and I have to link these texts with few BW report outputs.
This can be achieved in WAD using HTML coding by linking the report's URL, how can we do the same in VC. My customer wants in such a way that the report has to open in a different window in VC.
I checked even in SDN where I didnt find the exact answer.
Can any one help me out to achieve task.
Regards,
Chan

Dear Pradeep,
I have checked the document which u have suggested me, it is really helpful. But still i need some specefic inputs.
My client has already developed these dashboards in WAD but now they want everything in VC. Here no interference of WAD.
Let me explain you what I exactly want ...
In VC output screen I want to display the list of report names ( Hard coded ), when I click on these reports (I mean text eg: sales analysis), it has to take me to the sales analysis report output in a different window or may be in same window.
Now displaying this text and linking it with the Query designer report output is my confusion. Can u guide me to achieve this. (Here, No interference of WAD)
Regards,
Chan

• Link in report with SSP enabled

Hey everyone, I have a question here involving programatically generated links in reports from the sql query behind them. How do I make a link to the page (from the report's sql query) that will allow me to change the value of a hidden and protected item (P16_PERSON_CONTACT_ID) without having APEX Session State Protection get angry at me and still protect me from having the user muck with the URL?

David,
Well bind variables are more performant and safer to use in queries. It shouldn't really be a debate on when to use them, you always use them when you can. Here's a quick break down (not a complete list, and should probably be expanded, but should get you going)...
Use bind variable syntax when you're referencing an item:
1. In a report query
2. In PL/SQL code that is stored in the application (as a page level process for example)
Use substitution variable syntax when you're referencing an item:
1. Outside of SQL and PL/SQL but still need the value - this is not always an option (in the HTML Header region of a page or title of a region for example)
Use V and NV functions when you're referencing an item:
1. In PL/SQL code stored outside the application (in a package for example)

• Oracle Apps.XML reports ending with warning when the report output contains

Hi I have XML reports. When we run these reports as concurrent program through Oracle Apps. window and if the report output contains special characters(like Chineese data) in between of English, then the concurrent program is ending with warning. If we remove special characters then it is working fine or when we run the report query directly from backend it is working fine.
We are importing this data from legacy system into oracle apps. and we can't control these characters or decode them with some other charactes.
Can any one guide me how to get the XML report output with special characters.

For the same when we remove special characters and run the program it is completing and generating the

The results show that you have a proxy server set and this can often cause problems with iTunes.
The proxy setting can be accessed in Internet options>>Connections>>LAN Settings.
Try un-checking the proxy server check box.
It might also be a good idea to run a malware check if you didn't know you had the proxy server set.

• KKO0 Report - Problem with splitting Output Variances

Hi,
I have built a KKO0 report to allow split of Production Variances to cost components (Material, Labor, Overhead). I have done the required configuration to assign the proper cost component structure in OKN0 transaction.
In KKO0 the split of variances to cost components works for Input side variances and Output Lot Size Variance. However, it does not allocate variances to cost components for Output Price Variances and Remaining Output Variances. I had to create a separate row in the report to show Not Assigned line - where these 2 output variance categories appear as a total.
Has anybody had a similar problem and found a better solution?
Kind regards,
Karol

• SLOW report performance with bind variable

Environment: 11.1.0.7.2, Apex 4.01.
I've got a simplified report page where the report runs slowly compared to running the same query in sqldeveloper. The report region is based on a pl/sql function returning a query. If I use a bind variable in the query inside apex it takes 13 seconds to run, and if I hard code a string it takes only a few hundredths of a second. The query returns one row from a table which has 1.6 million rows. Statistics are up-to-date and the columns in the joins and where clause are indexed.
I've run traces using p_trace=YES from Apex for both the bind variable and hard coded strings. They are below.
The sqldeveloper explain plan is identical to the bind variable plan from the trace, yet the query runs in 0.0x seconds in sqldeveloper.
What is it about bind variable syntax in Apex that is causing the bad execution plan? Apex Bug? 11g bug? Ideas?

Patrick, interesting insight. Thank you.
The optimizer must be peeking at my bind variables with it's eyes closed. I'm the only one testing and I've never passed %anything as a bind value. :)
Here's what I've learned since my last post:
I don't think that sqldeveloper is actually using the explain plan it says it is. When I run explain plan in sqldeveloper (with a bind variable) it shows me the exact same plan as Apex with a bind variable. However, when I run autotrace in sqldeveloper, it takes a path that matches the hard coded values, and returns results in half a second. That autotrace run is consistent with actually running the query outside of autotrace. So, I think either sqldeveloper isn't really using bind variables, OR it is using them in some other way that Apex does not, or maybe optimizer peeking works in sqldeveloper?
Using optimizer hints to tweak the plan helps. I've tried both /*+ FIRST_ROWS */ and /*+ index(ps pk_persons) */ and both drop the query to about a second. However, I'm loath to use hints because of the very dynamic nature of the query (and Tom Kyte doesn't like them either). The hints may end up hurting other variations on the query.
I also tested the query by wrapping it in a select count(1) from ([long query]) and testing the performance in sqldeveloper and in Apex. The performance in that case is identical with both bind variables and hard coded variables for both Apex and SqlDeveloper. That to me was very interesting and I went so far as to set up two bind variable report regions on the same page. One region wrapped the long query with select count(1) from (...) and the other didn't. The wrapped query ran in 0.01 seconds, the unwrapped took 15ish seconds with no other optimizations. Very strange.
To get performance up to acceptable levels I have changed my function returning query to:
1) Set the equality operator to "=" for values without wildcards and "like" for user input with wildcards. This makes a HUGE difference IF no wildcard is used.
2) Insert a /*+ FIRST_ROWS */ hint when users chose the column that requires the sub-query. This obviously changes the optimizer's plan and improves query speed from 15 seconds to 1.5 seconds even with wildcards.
I will NOT be hard coding any user supplied values in the query string. As you can probably tell by the query, this is an application where sql injection would be very bad.
Jeff, regarding your question about "like '%' || :P71_SEARCH_SOURCE1 || '%'". I've found that putting wildcards around values, particularly at the beginning will negate any indexing on the column in question and slows performance even more.
I'm still left wondering if there isn't something in Apex that is breaking the optimizer "peeking" that Patrick describes. Perhaps something in the way it switches contexts from apex_public_user to the workspace schema?

Hi
The problem i sthat the function in the custom folder evaluated by the Oracle fisrt and after that are evaluated the functions which sets the global variables from the parameters.
So if you open the workbook nothing selected but the global variables has set and the next time you got the result with the previos parameters.
If you change the parameters it wouldn't change the result set only if you refresh it again without changing the parameters.
This is not a good solution for using parameters in custom folders. As I know there is no good solution for this problem yet.

• HTML Encoding of output with special language characters ie. Umlaut

Greetings,
Application: Crystal Reports XI RDC Runtime engine.
Output format with error: HTML
Sample Data row passed as a recordset to crystal by MS SQL Server.
lahenduse tähtaja testimine;;High;Top;C;1;01/01/2010;05/04/2010;05/04/2010
HTML encoding:
lahenduse t?¤htaja testimine
When the output of PDF or Excel are selected charaters with umlauts, tilds, etcu2026 over the letters are displaying correctly.
When the output is HTML the encoding is messed up.
Has there been a fix for this runtime engine regarding this issue?

Ludek,
The following link http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/communityCS/FilesAndUpdates/crXI_rdc_merge_modules.zip would be the correct update pack link I am looking for.
http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/additional_downloads/runtime.asp
As it is the runtime engine, not the crystal developer that is having the problem.
For completeness I have upgraded my developer CR XI Release 1 to SP4.
http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/additional_downloads/service_packs/crystal_reports_en.asp#CRXIR1
I will post again later today, once all the upgrading has been completed.

• No way to add images for story-boards to the project?

Apparently, in all the Great Ideas on building this program (sarcasm included free) no one thought about perhaps "sharing" things other than "documents". So ... got an image on your local computer you want to add as a story-board image? Fuhgedaboutit. Ain't happnin' baby ... not no way not no how ...
Unless of course, you put the image on-line somewhere first ... but not, it would seem, WITH the project itself in the "cloud". You can upload for sharing ... documents. Not images. So ... you have to put the image up on a website somewhere, THEN you can link it to the storyboard but ONLY from an online link OUTSIDE the project.
Does this seem incredibly ... um ... poorly conceived?

If all you want is code snippet why not use the code template feature?
It is more dynamic and will allow you to use variables that you can switch - then you can just use the keyboard to get the value.

• Continuous in- and output with PCI-6229

Hi All,
I'm currently evaluating a PCI-6229 card on RTX (and maybe InTime later on). The main goal of the evaluation is to prove we can get hard real-time, deterministic behaviour from this system in order to use it to replace our current DSP-based solution.
To do so, I'm setting up a rather simple program that should
- continuously acquire 1 channel @ 20kHz
- have a processing loop of 5mSec, ie 100 samples; this loop should be entered every 5mSec as exactly as possible
- do some simple processing in the loop (thresholding the signal)
- bring out the result on an analog output (low signal if signal is under threshold, high signal for all samples above the threshold)
I could get the basics working pretty quickly: continuous input, continous output, continuous input with dma, input using interrupts.
Trying to combine everything isn't really working out however.. Normally I'd try and try until knowing the device inside-out but now I have a rather strict timeframe so hopefully someone here can provide some insight.
Questions:
1. For the input, I can get an SC_TC interrupt each time one frame is scanned. I measured this on a scope by toggling a digital output on the card, and there's no noticable jitter on the squarewave which is a good sign.
However I'd like to combine this with DMA, but the DMA is lagging a bit on the interrupt so I end up having to poll the DMA after all in the ISR, so there's no use using the interrupt in the first place.
Is there a way to set up continuous DMA servicing and get an interrupt from the DMA system itself after 100 samples are transferred?
2. For the output, I cannot get continuous mode working with DMA, only by writing to the FIFO manually. I can preload a couple of frames with the dma, but after calling aoStart(), tDMAChannel::write() works once, but all calls afterwards return kBufferUnderflow. Any ideas?
I probably have to check when exactly to write to the DMA, but I have no idea which of the many status functions to use. Tried with AO_Status_1.readAO_FIFO_Half_Full_St() but that's not it. tried to write it on each UC_TC interrupt but that didn't work either.
3. DMA is, to my understanding, a more performant way of getting samples into the host and doesn't require to call AI_FIFO_Data.readRegister() in a loop and vice-versa for the output side. But are there really benefits in using DMA?
4. I made a basic program to bring everything together the simplest way possible: preload 100 samples in the output FIFO, start analog input, start analog output, have the ISR copy all values directly from input to output FIFO.
Putting both analog signals on a scope, I expected to see the input and about (see question5) 5mSec later the same signal on the output, with no jitter.
However what I see is the output is just floating around, in other words there is no fixed delay between output and input! How is this possible? I use the same divisor for in-and output. Is there any sample code available that achieves what I want?
5. Is there a way to start both input and output at the exact same time, eg at the same edge of a certain clock pulse? How are input and output synchronized? Can I be sure they never go out of sync?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

update: looking at the DAQmx control samples, it seems some of them set the start trigger for the AO to the AI start trigger. I mimicked this using kAO_START1_SelectAI_START_1 with the aoTrigger method, and the sync seems better now: the output starts exactly 10mSec after the input (or 5, if I preload only one frame) and stays in sync for about 25mSec. That it goes wrong.
At the moment I'm using no DMA, just one simple interrupt routine that basically does
board->Interrupt_A_Ack.writeAI_SC_TC_Interrupt_Ack( 1 );
board->Interrupt_A_Ack.flush();
toggle ^= 1;
board->Static_Digital_Output.writeRegister( toggle ? 0x00 : 0xff );
for( u32 i = 0 ; i < numSamples ; ++i )
const u32 val = board->AI_FIFO_Data.readRegister();
board->AO_FIFO_Data.writeRegister( val );
In the screenshot in the attachment you can see this goes wrong: cursor A shows the position of the input signal (=AI 0, yellow) that should be shown 10mSec later at the output (blue line=AO). Cursor B shows this 10mSec later position, and you can see there's some garbage right after the cursor. This is the data that was written to the AO FIFO in the fifth interrupt (interrupt position show in purple).
Trying to figure out where that comes from, I put board->AI_Status_1.readAI_FIFO_Empty_St() in the interrupt loop. And effectively, when trying to read the 500th sample, it reports that the FIFO is empty. Consequently the data written to the AO FIFO does not make sense anymore. But I do not understand how can this ever happen? The SC_TC interrupt is fired whenever 100 samples are read from the input. So after this interrupt occurs, the FIFO should always contain at least 100 samples, no?

• Query link in report

Hi,
perhaps a silly newbee question, but how do I create a report with clickable links.
For example with
select deptno from dept
I get the report
deptno
10
20
30
40
How / where can I add functionality to this report that "10","20", .. are clickable and a click on "10" or "20" shows the employees from this department
(like select ename from emp where deptno = '10')
I've looked in doku, help and forum and found no example. Have I missed the example?
Thanks for your answer(s)
Klaus

In the report "region" there is an "Report Attributes" tab/section. In there you will find attributes for each column from your query. Click the edit icon for the department column and go to the "Column Link" section of the page. You can set the "Target" to a page in your application or to a URL you define. You can also pass values to the target page by specifying the target variable name and the value you want to pass.
In your case you can define the link to go to page 88 and set the item named P88_DEPTNO to the value in #DEPTNO# . On page 88, your query would be
select employeeName
from employees
where deptno = :P88_DEPTNO
Another method (more complicated but allows you even more control over the link) is to code the link into the actual query using HTML syntax and building the URL yourself following the APEX URL syntax formatting rules
select '<a href="'
|| 'f?p=&APP_ID.:88:&SESSION.:::RP:P88_DEPTNO:' || deptno || '>' || deptno || '</a>'
from dept

This gives back a column of clickable links that would take you to page 88 and pass the deptno you clicked on to P88_DEPTNO page item.

Taking that one step further, if you can join the employees to the deptno query, you can add a "TITLE" attribute to the href statement to show just about anything when you hover over the link. There is not much formatting available using this method of the TITLE attribute, but I have found it extremely handy for information I would like to have at-a-glance, without making another column or having to go to another page. (e.g. you could have the TITLE attribute display the Dept Managers name and the count of people in that deparment.

select '<a href="'
|| 'f?p=&APP_ID.:88:&SESSION.:::RP:P88_DEPTNO:' || deptno || ' title=" || hoverTitle.titleTxt ||'">' || deptno || '</a>'
from dept d, (select (mangerText||empCount),deptno titleTxt from someTables) hoverTitle
where d.deptno = hoverTitle.deptno

So the resulting output looks like this
<a href="f?p=100:88:12345678::::P88_DEPTNO:10" title="Manger:Jeff Employees:34">10</a>
<a href="f?p=100:88:12345678::::P88_DEPTNO:20" title="Manager: Jill Employees: 68">20</a>
If you hover over DeptNo below, you can see the title pop up. You can view the source of this page to see how the HREFs actually look

DeptNo
10
20
