Linking Cisco SF 102-24\MGSX1 to a 100mb Media Converter

Hello,
I just purchased a Cisco SF 102-24 unmanaged 100 series swith with a MGBSX1 mini-Gbic converter.  My goal is to connect this to a building that is connected with a Black Box LH1706A-ST media converter that has 100mb ST fiber connections.  In my testing the Black Box shows both a Fiber link and RJ45 port link at 100mb, but the MGBSX1 does not show any link lights or traffic.  So a computer connected to the Cisco switch is not able to communicate over the fiber connection.
Can the MGBSX1 be connected to a media converter that only has 10/100 ST fiber connectors?  Thank you for any helpful advice.

Hi Joseph,
My Colleague, the very excellent David Carr wasn't aware of this,  but the 100 series switch  only support 1000Mbit/sec speeds on SFP's  not 100M/bit/sec.
So you cannot plug in our MFEFX1 into the SF102-24.  It just wont work, a MGBLX1 would, but I guess you have Multimode 62.5um or 50um  fiber in place.
We are updating the QSG for the modules with an updated compatibility list  so that this issue doesn't come up again..
My apologies for this .
So if you want to run 100FX speeds for up to 2Kilometers, between my switch and the Black box media convertor, my suggestion is to get a second media convertor.
Again my apologies, I only found this out from the Product Manager 3 days ago.
regards Dave

    Safari "Download Linked File As ..." dialog box seems to convert 3 or more consecutive period chars (\056) into a Unicode ellipsis char ( \342\200\246 ) in the file name that I type.  How does one prevent this ?

    I know nothing about “EndNote”, but allow me to give you some general advice. Your first, commented-out, line (“--section to wait for window to pop up”) indicates that you need to change the basic way you are tackling what you want to do. When writing any script, if you know the name and location of a file or a directory (folder) you should not cause (or allow, or need) your script to open an Open or a Save window -- just use the path that you already know.

  • Linking Cisco Linksys E3000 uPnP media server to non uPnP Home Theater system

    Hi,
    I have a Cisco Linksys E3000 Wireless Router. My home theater system does not have uPnP capabilities. That is it doesn't have the uPnP client like a PS3 or a Wii.
    Is there a uPnP client that I can buy for the specific purpose of connecting to my home theater system via ethernet.
    The resulting connection graph will be as follows: NAS (via USB) to E3000, E3000 to uPnP client (using ethernet), uPnP client to Home Theater system using audio in or HDMI.
    Thanks for your help!

    If your Home Theater system has Ethernet port then I think you can try wireless bridge ( WET610N ) to make it wireless.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.4 SNMP Traps are not converted into Alarms

    Hi everybody,
    I just configured SNMP Traps on a Cisco Catalyst 3750-x to send to our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.4 Appliance.
    Now I forced the Switch to send some traps (Power off a Power Supply, Interface errdisable). The only events I see in Alarms & Events on PI is the same information message everytime:
    Configuration management event has been recorded in ccmHistoryEventTable.
    I think the forced traps should be converted into alarms? Why can't I see them?
    Thanks,
    Marc

    Ok, I started debugging as you said. I get the following output:
    Mar 13 09:28:13.711: SNMP: V2 Trap, reqid 11689, errstat 0, erridx 0
     sysUpTime.0 = 198609846
     snmpTrapOID.0 = ciscoSyslogMIB.2.0.1
     clogHistoryEntry.2.1688 = PM
     clogHistoryEntry.3.1688 = 5
     clogHistoryEntry.4.1688 = ERR_RECOVER
     clogHistoryEntry.5.1688 = Attempting to recover from bpduguard err-disable state on Gi1/0/13
     clogHistoryEntry.6.1688 = 198609844
    Mar 13 09:28:13.737: SNMP: Queuing packet to xx.xx.xx.xx
    Looks like the Switch is sending SNMP Traps from the ciscoSyslogMIB. Is this why PI can't show the Traps and convert it into a alarm?
    After this test I configured logging (syslog) to the PI. Now the errors are showed but still not converted into alarms. I just want to be notified by email when such errors occurs.
    Thanks,
    Marc

  • BB Link on my Windows 8 PC does not see media on Z10

    I am able to connect my Z10 to BB Link on my Window's 8 PC.  The phone’s status shows up as Connected. I can performs a device backup successfully. Yet Link does not see any of the pictures or video’s on the phones internal memory or the media card. I cannot transfer media from the PC to the phone either.
    I know that the problem is not with my phone because I can connect to BB Link on my Window’s 7 pc and see and transfer media successfully.
    I have tried disabling the firewall, uninstalling and reinstalling BB Link to no avail.

  • Media Converter & Catalyst 3560 giving me headaches

    Physical location 1  is connected to Physical location 2 with fiberoptic cable.
    Location 1 fiber is terminated at Catalyst 3560.
    Location 2 fiber is terminated at a media converter, so that the fiber link should be able to transparently be connected to a gigabit ethernet by rj45 cable.
    The two fiber cables at each end is the same (62.5/125) - all is multimode fiber, and the gbic in the catalyst, and the media converter are both 850 nm.
    On the Catalyst gbic where the fiber is, no link.
    On the media converter there is link on the rj45, but no link on the fiber.
    I cant seem to get what could be the problem.
    The media converter is a tp-link mc200cm, which is gigabit, as well as the gbic module in the catalyst.
    At first I bought the wrong tp-link (mc100cm - wavelength wrong) - however, on that, the fiber link lights (but very quick flashes only).
    Any help, pointers oir the like would be greatlty appreciated!

    It would seem the two devices should be compatible; both 850nm, short-reach interfaces and the instructions for the media converter shows a single-ended configuration. In the past, others have found that some media converters only operate in matched pairs; typically meaning they are not 802.3 compliant on their fiber links.
    Have you confirmed that the fiber connectors are clean and the fibers are routed to the correct ports (Tx to Rx, and Rx to Tx)?  Are the ports set on both devices for Auto speed and duplex setting?  Have you tested the fiber links to ensure they are good? If you loop the fiber cable on the 3560's GBIC from Tx to Rx, can you get link?  At the media convertor end, disconnect the fibers and connect the fibers together; does the 3560 show link? If you loop a fiber at the media converter's optical ports, does the media conv show link?
    Let us know. Thx!

  • Cisco Technical Support v3.7 - New Features

    Accurately Update Installed Location. The Cisco Tech Support mobile application—available for Apple or Android—provides smartphone and tablet access to critical Technical Services support such as support documentation, service request creation and update, serial number scan and lookup, and contract entitlement.
    Now we have enhanced this robust application with new features for Cisco Support Contract holders. It’s easier than ever to search for support cases, including by RMA number. Push notifications let your customers know when a TAC engineer is assigned to a case opened in the mobile app. Tap on the notification, and we'll launch the app and take you straight to your support case.  And, you can easily and accurately update device Installed base information with a click. Simply scan the Cisco product bar code using a mobile device’s camera and, at the prompt, use the GPS function of the mobile device to pinpoint the installed location of that device. Or, if preferred, input the address manually. As soon as the location information is verified and associated with your customer’s service contract, they’ll be sure to receive faster, more accurate service. And you and Cisco will have more complete and accurate customer information for service and renewals.
    Have you not tried the app before? The app is broken into two types of content - Entitled and Non-Entitled. If a user has an active support contract they can:
    View, Update (add notes and attach photos) and Create Cisco Support Cases. If you open a case through the app, we'll send you a push notification when a TAC Engineer has been assigned. Tap on the push notification, and we'll launch the app, and bring you straight to the case in question.
    View RMA Details tied to a support case
    Contact your assigned TAC Engineer, Field Engineer and On-Site Contact (later two for RMAs) directly by phone or email
    Look up entitlement info by serial number. A bar code scanner is provided to make it easier to capture the info
    View list of contracts you are associated with. Tap on the "calendar icon" to add a reminder in your calendar 90 & 60 days prior to the contract expiring (some partners have indicated this is a nice sales reminder)
    Access to a mobile version of Bug Search Tool
    Non Entitled users can:
    View Externalized TAC Authored Content (TAC Support Docs)
    Have access to aggregated support information (config guides, data sheets, installation instructions, etc), software downloads and community content specific to a model via "Product Information" then "Select a Product"
    Access to support related videos, podcasts (includes TAC Security Podcast) and RSS Feeds (includes several several nice security related feeds).

  • Deos Aironet 1300 can provide the repeater mode to PT-link TL-WA601G

    Hello,
    I have a problem with Aironet 1300 to provide the repeater mode to PT-link TL-WA601G for extending the signal.
    I have two cisco aironet, i have configures as the bridge to link each other and WEP 128bit key.
    Then i bought TL-WA601G for extending the signal to my room. However after i configure on TL-WA601G as the repeater mode and put WEP 128bit key, TL-WA601G cannot get sent and received packets from Aironet.
    So what is the problem on this? How can i solve this issues?

    Cisco Aironet products can establish 40-bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) connections with IEEE 802.11b-compliant non-Cisco products. If you want to create a 128-bit WEP link, Cisco products only interact with other Cisco products. If you are using a third-party device with a Cisco Aironet product, you must set both devices to use 40-bit WEP.

  • Peer-link - mixing M1 and M2 cards on the same chassis

    Hi guys,
    for migrations propuses i need to add 2 links from a M2 card to the peer-link port-channel already configured in a M1 card:
    N7K-1 VPC Peer link N7K-2
    M2 ----------------------- M2
    M1 ---------------------- M1
    I cant find any documentacion for this specific cards,
    we are running 6.2(8a).
    Anyone can advise,
    thx
    regards

    No, you cannot configure the ports from an M1 and M2 series linecard in the same port
    channel. This is referenced in our N7K Interfaces Configuration Guide at the following
    link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/6_x/nx-os/interfaces/configuration/
    guide/if_portchannel.html#wp1888267
    Starting with revision 6.2, you can mix any M Series I/O modules to create a vPC peer as
    illustrated in the following table.

  • Cisco VG 224 Analog Phone Gateway

    Hi
    Can i use cisco vg224 gateway in a scenario like -
    cisco ISR+CCM express -->WAN LINK --> cisco ISR -> VG224 gateway --> analog phones.
    If this scenario is good then, can i do call transfer and forwarding with analog phones with any extensions digital/analog on that setup?
    thanks
    regards
    Rakesh
    =====

    The Cisco VG 224 is an analog voice gateway that manages up to 24 FXS ports for analog devices. Call control of the analog FXS ports is provided by Cisco CallManager or by a Cisco CallManager Express (Cisco CME) system. An SCCP telephony control (STC) application on the Cisco VG 224 functions as a a proxy to translate call-control messages between the call-control system (Cisco CallManager or Cisco CME) and the voice gateway.

  • Ironport not allowing different subnet using cisco dhcp

    Recently i configured new vlan on remote site and directed it to backup  link, but strange thing is our wireless clients proxy is working and lan  connected pcs proxy is not working,
    Ironport is working on default vlan, microsoft dhcp server but i created  different vlan and configured dhcp on cisco but it is not allowing  access that subnet. using wccp redirect on the interface.
    we configured NTLM authentication connecting to AD, the problem is the  clients which are different vlan is not in AD, and AD pc in different  vlan is working only non AD denied actually we configured guest on  authenticaion, and also that subnet is placing remote site and our main  site's unknown pcs are accessing throught guest no problem, 2nd thing is  main vlan uses MS server 2003 dhcp pool and working non AD users, im  using switch own dhcp pool for vlan 200, is it conflict? and when i put  ironport ip on IE's proxy setting it is working
    How to fix it?

    Our network is like this, so through MPLS everything is working fine. The problem is on backup.

    Hello,
    I have looked all around and am still at a loss on how to address this issue. I would like the current page to be highlighted white when it is clicked on, although I am having no success. The user should see the "Into" link in white on this link: http://www2.biochem.wisc.edu/projectcrystal/la-Introduction-to-basic-chemistry.html
    Thanks from a Dw beginner,

    /* BeginOAWidget_Instance_2141544: #MenuBar */
    /* Settable values for skinning a Basic menu via presets. If presets are not sufficient, most skinning should be done in
        these rules, with the exception of the images used for down or right pointing arrows, which are in the file SpryMenuBasic.css
         These assume the following widget classes for menu layout (set in a preset)
        .MenuBar - Applies to all menubars - default is horizontal bar, all submenus are vertical - 2nd level subs and beyond are pull-right.
        .MenuBarVertical - vertical main bar; all submenus are pull-right.
        You can also pass in extra classnames to set your desired top level menu bar layout. Normally, these are set by using a preset.
        They only apply to horizontal menu bars:
            MenuBarLeftShrink - The menu bar will be horizontally 'shrinkwrapped' to be just large enough to hold its items, and left aligned
            MenuBarRightShrink - Just like MenuBarLeftShrink, but right aligned
            MenuBarFixedLeft - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedLeft', and left aligned.
            MenuBarFixedCentered -  - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedCentered',
                            and centered in its parent container.
            MenuBarFullwidth - Grows to fill its parent container width.
        In general, all rules specified in this file are prefixed by #MenuBar so they only apply to instances of the widget inserted along
        with the rules. This permits use of multiple MenuBarBasic widgets on the same page with different layouts. Because of IE6 limitations,
        there are a few rules where this was not possible. Those rules are so noted in comments.

                                                    at a given level all use same definition for ems.
                                                    Note that this means the size is also inherited to child submenus,
