Linking East West Samples w/ Logic?

I have the East West Symphonic Orchestra Platinum Edition, and would like to use these sounds in Logic Pro 8. How do I do this?
I've heard that I may have to purchase Kontakt or the full version of Kompakt in order to make this work. Is that true?
Thanks-

The East West Libraries, such as Platinum, do not work with the included sample player on Intel machines, such as your Mac Book. You would need to get the latest version of the Kontakt sampler, which will read the East West samples. The good news is, as a registered owner of Platinum, you can buy Kontakt at a discounted price.
The possible better news is, East West just released "PLAY" for the platinum orchestra, which is their new sample player for Intel machines, and you will probably be able to upgrade for very little money, especially if you just purchased Platinum recently.

  • How to import East West Library into Logic

I bought the East West Quantum Leap Symphony Orchestra library and wondering if anyone can tell me how to import it into Logic 9, please help! Thank you!

Hey Mike sorry its just a matter of habit that i say VST, it is the AU version and I am running and Logic 9.1.5 in 32 Bit mode... i think there is something wrong with the auvaltool as it keeps crashing... currently on the phone to apple support atm so will post back here if and when i get the fix for it... Cheers for the help ... Ps EW tech support just told me to uninstall then re-install, as if i hadn't tried that a few times and it still didn't install... so have reverted back to Play version 2 for EW off my Start-up HD so at least i can use them as stand alone device... Thanx again

  • East West Sample Library

    Hello,
I just purchased the Silver Bundle edition from East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra and can't figure out how to import the library or the Kontakt player it comes with into logic... any advice?
Likewise, my normal midi keyboard isn't working within kontakt player itself... any advice?
    Best,
    Matt Finan

All of the east west libraries that run on Kompakt are NOT compatible with the intel macs.
Your options are to either wait a few months until their new player supports Silver, or spend $269 buying the Kontakt crossgrade (which is a universal binary). Or you can see if they'll take it back and let you buy a library that actually works. Good luck.

  • East West Goliath with Logic

    Hi There,
I'm just beginning to build my sound library. Is anyone using Goliath with Logic, and how well does it work? Thanks

PLAY is not 64 bit while Kontakt is, and in general I don't think PLAY performs nearly as well on mac as Kontakt does (apparently PLAY runs much better on PCs but that doesn't help us). Until PLAY gets an update that lets it run well on macs (including 64 bit) any libraries on that platform are at a disadvantage to ones on Kontakt.

  • Logic 8 with East West 'Play' engine

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced any problems when using the East West Play engine in Logic 8.
The problem I'm having is constant crashing very shortly after pressing play or record. It's pretty random when it will crash, sometimes I can work on a project for hours with no problem, other times it will crash after about 2mins of use. What happens is I hit play, there is a breif lag, then I get the 'beach ball' cursor permantly until I force close logic. During this time I can't use logic at all, also Logic's autosave function does not kick in so I lose any progress not saved.
It's not a performance issue, I'm running a 27inch i7 quad core 3.4Ghz 2011 iMac with 12gb RAM. I'm running OS X version 10.6.8 and logic is version 8.0.2. I've just updated the Play software.
I've tried moving the samples about onto various hard drives, I've tried re-installing the play software, all drivers are up-to-date. I've tried bypassing the audio interface incase that was causing issues. Nothing seems to be fixing the issue.
I've read that the East West play engine is quite unstable in Logic 8, so I'm thinking about upgrading to Logic 9. However I don't want to spend the £140 for the same problem to occur in Logic 9...
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, this problem is driving me mad! The East West samples arn't cheap, and I use them for pretty much everything I do.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nick.

Logic 8 was generally a disaster for me, and especially with Play (which has never been the most stable of engines), I fully sympthasize. I remember those as dark days.
Obviosuly no guarantees, but I can tell you that I am running fine with Play on Logic 9.1.7. I am very reliant on the EastWest Ra library, and also a heavy user of Symphonic Choirs, neither of which are currently giving me any trouble.
I still absolutely hate the Play UI, but it is at least stable.

  • Can't find East West in Logic Pro 9

    Hi guys!
I just bought Logic Pro 9 and a mac computer. I have never used a mac before. I have the complete composers addition of East West but can't seem to open any of the instrument in logic.
I have gone to the audio units manager and the engine play is in there. I've even clicked on reset and rescan' but when I go to insert an instrument it does not display any of the East West libraries.
    Please help!!!!

    Hi
You are probably running Logic in 64bit mode. All (new) plugins must be validated in 32bit mode before they will be available in 64bit.
Go to the Applications folder, and (with Logic NOT running) select the Logic Pro application. Press CMD i (Get Info) and check the 32bit box

  • Logic Studio 32 bit and (AU)East West Quantum Leap Goliath 64bit Question

I have a Mac Pro 8 core Zeon Harpertown processor's. Its the latest mac Pro with 10 gigs of ram.
I also have Logic Studio 2 and Logic Express. I just purchased East West Quantum Leap Goliath.
    Here is the major Dilema:
Mac OS is 64 bit. East West is 64 bit but Logic is 32 bit.
Won't there be a problem with east west AU being run on 64 bit in a 32 bit application? East West New Engine is 64 bit so its not just the samples its alos the engine.
The only 64 bit audio sequencing software right now is Sonar. I heard it was 64 bit because of its Video module is also 64 bit.
Anyhow how is this going to work running an AU that is 64 bit in a 32 bit application?
    Thanks

Are you sure? There would be absolutely no point whatsoever in releasing a Mac 64-bit plugin, as there are no 64-bit hosts on the Mac, and likely won't be for some time. Logic isn't going fully 64-bit anytime soon.
You can't run 64-bit code in a 32-bit host, so why would they release a Mac plugin version if it was essentially unusable..? And how would they test it..?
Edit: I just looked at the press release. It says "32-bit support is also included".

  • East/West Gold Orch wtih Logic

How do I use East/West Gold Orch Edition with Logic? I can't find the sequencer, when I try to launch it in an audio instrument track.
    Thanks.
    Ole from Denmark.

EWQLSO runs on either Kompakt (There should be a dedicated instrument included in your bundle) or using Kontakt, which can be bought as a separate sampler from Native Instruments.
If you have a second hand version of the software, it is an incredibly laborious process. I bought mine in the 'group buy' that ran a couple of years ago at Northern Sounds. They failed to mention it was for OS9! A lot of downloading of patches and updates before I could get it to work. Thankfully, now I have a Native Instruments login I can download the updates should I wish to re-install them.

  • East West Keyswitches off by 1 octave in Logic Pro X

I am using East West Symphonic Orchestra Platinum Plus, Play, and Logic Pro X. The keyswitch notes indicated in the East West manual are one octave lower than the notes that actually trigger the articulations in Logic Pro. For example, the solo violin master keyswitch instrument lists the F0 key as the keyswitch for the half step trill articulation. However, in Logic Pro, F0 does not trigger anything, but F1 triggers the half step trill articulation. This is not an isolated incident, as I have tried several other articulations and the keyswitches that trigger those are all one octave higher than they should be. I could just put up with this, except that for the solo violin and other instruments, the keyswitch notes overlap with the regular notes, meaning the keyswitch notes are audible in my track. As a final note, my MIDI keyboard is able to utilize keyswitches correctly (i.e, when I play C0 on the keyboard, the C0 keyswitch is triggered in the Play window).
Is there an easy fix for this?

I think this worked. The odd thing is, I have a Roland A-88 keyboard but the Yamaha setting works for me. Thanks!
Not odd at all.  The communication in question is between Logic and the plug in.  There may even be a setting within the plug that is basically the same thing.

  • East/West Gold - Can I run it on MacBook Pro w/ Logic Pro?

I heard "somewhere" that East/West products have trouble running on a MacBook Pro w/ Logic Pro. Any feedback?
I have also heard that if I buy East/West products I now have to buy a separate "player" (like Kontakt) in order to run them on a MacBook, although what I'm reading is that this is only true for previous versions, not new purchases. Anybody heard any of this?
Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom!

EWQLSO traditionally comes with the Kompakt player, which NI are not updating for MacIntel, so it won't run as is on a Macbook.
However, you have two choices now. You can either buy Kontakt, which is available as a UB for MacIntel machines, and which should%% load the libraries, or EastWest have developed their own player software. Whether you get it free or have to pay the upgrade depends on when you purchased it - if you haven't bought yet, you'll (I think) get the new player for free.
Do check when the player comes out though, I don't think it's ready yet, but could be mistaken.
You can get details of this at www.soundsonline.com
%%Note: Kontakt should load the libraries, but there has been a longstanding authorisation bug in Kontakt which sometimes prevents this. There are easy workarounds on the PC (registry editing) but none that I've seen on the Mac. Some people have had no problems, other people just cannot load encrypred libraries at all - so do check anddo some research before purchase.
You can always post in the Soundsonline forum for more details.

  • I can't get east west symphonic choirs to work in logic

    Hi,
I'm having huge problems with the EW Symphonic Choirs software. Firstly I followed the videos that come with the discs and it works to a point. but then it all goes horribly wrong.
It says that I should create a midi track to record into and output the details of this track to an audio track. The only thing is that when I play these notes in the audio track they're all a semitone below the midi track! I can't understand this at all. So basically I have a melody that sounds all in simultaneous semitones, excrutiating for the ear!
Then, there are only two possibilities for voices as the wordbuilder that comes with SC only has 4 ports. So it is impossible to play even an SATB! So in a sense its not really choir software at all, more like a vocal ensemble since you can only combine two of the 4 voice groups.
More problems occur when I try to bounce the track, awful as it sounds, off to an aif. When listening back I get the voices cutting in and out with crackling sounds and stuttered speech. Also I can also hear the click as well crackling under the voices. I have never heard anything like this before with other software.
Is there some setting that will fix this? My RAM is only 2.5, maybe this is a problem?
I tried contacting the East West support team but they don't reply. To be honest this is putting me off ever buying anything from them again. I might get a refund soon if these problems persist.
Any help you have would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi every body,
First of all sorry for my bad english I'm from Switzerland
I myself acquired one east west choirs, and I encountered the same kind of problems.
But I have a new mac pro 2.4 Ghz 12 GB RAM processor 2*6 core.
It Looks like I should be able to hack the pentagon to install this program correctly.
First, it often bugs, it crashes 2/5.
It also crashes when I load the WordBuilder,
when I load a bank, and I add one more, there are problems with the transpose. And very difficult to manage the problem touching the transpose cause bank load more than 8-10 samples and sometimes nothing moves when you touch the transpose.
Notes are also arranged on the keyboard completely strange way, for example, a bank plays in C in the middle of the keyboard and the same bank plays in G to the bottom notes, so you're in big **** even if you manage your transpose problem. The same instrument change tone!
So when I mix the bank I find a lost bottom note, lost at the top of the keyboard while playing and angelic note by mistake! The only way it's tu put down the transpose to get off this note but after you turn back with your tonality problem.
I contacted the dealer. He told me to uninstall the program and the re-install, describing me a procedure for mac which steps doesn't really appears like in the dscription.
I bought extansion that goes with this and I'm really angry given the price $ 600.
Is there someone who knows what program it is, is it a big scam or a monumental BAD series???
I wanted to buy the strings and brass too, but I strongly believe that I'll never approach an east west product or other product that would use the PLAY WIZARD, it seems they decide to sell technology that is not at all successfull and finished.
Could someone help, some one who has got this application and could answer; even if it's to hear "throw this **** to garbage and forgot" lol

  • I have East/West Symphony.  Will it work with Logic express and do I have to have that little red usb drive in the computer to authorize it?

    I have East/West Symphony.
Will it work with Logic express and do I have to have that little red usb drive in the computer to authorize it?
Also, would it work with Garageband??

Thanks-that's the same driver I'm using now.
The M-audio techs were unable to tell me if Quattro would work with LE8, so I've been wasting my time and money trying to make it work.
They also gave me conflicting opinions as to whether or not "tip" polarity was an issue when using an after-market adapter. One said definitely yes, one or two others said definitely no.
Their phone tech line has a 20 to 40 minute wait when I call. The online support system is confusing, which even they admit. I don't think my next interface will be from M-audio.
Thanks very much for the response, it helps me get beyond this phase.
Is the Quattro of any use for anybody else (i.e., can I sell it or give it away)?

  • East West plugins missing in Logic Pro

I have been to East Wests site to get the mac installer for EWQL Gold. I installed it making sure to install the AU. I opened the stand alone version which works no problem. Then Iopened Logic Pro 8 and the EWQL Gold is not there. All my other Plugins are showing up.

Since they are still working on their new long delayed stormdrum and piano libraries, I suspect it could still be months before they release the PLAY version of EWQLSO.
While EW doesn't develop the kompakt player, it is their fault that over two years after the first intel boxes shipped, they are selling software that isn't intel compatible. And they weren't forced to develop their own plugin, they had the option of converting their libraries to a newer version of kompakt/kontakt months ago but decided against it.
Their libraries are good, but I strongly disagree that their support is "spot on". They have been promising intel support for a year and a half, and have yet to deliver. Their latest libraries (with the new plugin) still have a number of bugs months after release. And everything they have released in the past year has been months late, including their last two new PLAY libraries, which were supposed to ship I think April, and still aren't out.
And don't even get me started on the way they run their company. They have made MANY promises to customers about support and compatibility in order to sell libraries, and then not only gone back on those promises, but flat out lied and denied that info was ever on their website. If people think the censorship on this board is bad, EW not only deletes any post pointing out promises made and not kept, and bans the user account.
Some nice libraries, but the way they run the company and treat customers makes me unlikely to ever buy anything from them again. It's a shame they don't just release libraries for EXS, or other open player formats and not have to worry about the nightmare of plugin compatibility.

  • East West Symphonic Gold Bundle not loading in Kontakt 2.2.2 player

    Hi to all--
I posted this within another thread, but since it hasn't been answered, and might have been a little off the topic of that thread, I thought I might try a new thread.
I've installed the EWQL Symphonic Gold bundle, as directed, and run the stand-alone player once and closed it, also as directed in forum posts and the Soundsonline website. But I'm not able to then load sounds into the Kontakt player as a plug-in within LP8, as is necessary since Intel Macs can't run the Kompakt player like every other kind of computer, but only Kontakt. I'm running Kontakt 2.2.2.001, so it's beyond the minimum version necessary for the EWQL according to what their documentation says.
Just to make sure I'm giving y'all lots of info so maybe you can help, I'll give you the steps I'm doing as concisely as possible.
In a new Logic Arrange window, I'm creating a new stereo Software Instrument track. In the Mixer, I navigate to Kontakt 2 so that it comes up in the I/O button, then double-click so the Kontakt control panel comes up. So far so good. Then, under "load/save" on the Kontakt panel, I navigate to samples via the Pro XP Library Folder, to "instruments" sub-folder, then through instrument families to individual samples. But when I select and hit the "choose" button, I get the following error message: "KontaktPlayer2-The patch you're trying to load cannot be used with this application."
I can't see that I'm doing anything wrong, but hopefully whatever it is is simple to fix. Maybe I'll just go "duhh" when a kind soul tells me what's going on.
    Thanks in advance to all!
    later,
    John

    Thanks, Bee Jay and Jim!
Bee Jay, you are quite right that it's not a Logic problem. I just thought I might get a helpful response from someone here, since NI is very weird and squirrely.
I finally had a moderator get back to me on the Soundsonline Forum, who told me the root of the problem: I have been trying to use the Kontakt 2.2.2 PLAYER, not the program itself, and it's the latter that is required. Hmmm. That was not made clear to me when I bought the East-West collection. But maybe my fault for not knowing the difference between program and player? Anyway, I'm on the hook for an upgrade from the Kontakt player to a full version of Kontakt 3, and I just have to suck it up. Boo hoo hoo, right? ;>)
    later,
    John
