Linking IWEB pages to another is failing

When using Iweb I have no problems with linking the various pages to another via the buttons  bar on top of the page. However, when I publish the project to my desktop all the buttons on the bar are missing so that I cannot open the other pages. Hasd anyone the same experience and how to solve this? I am using IWEB 11.

Are you getting a bullet (•) instead of the navbar at the top? That's an indication that not all of the site files have been uploaded.  What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?

  • Link iWeb Page To External Page

    How do I link a page I've created in iWeb to my Blogger site? Meaning - when folks click on "Blogs & Podcasts" in the iWeb index, they will be automatically brought to my Blog site (external page)? I've tried everything and nothing seems to work!
    I don't want to have an image on my iWeb Blog page where it's hyperlinked...I literally want folks to just be brought to my external Blogger page. Is this possible?

    Hi Juliet,
    You could create an auto-popup window you will find instructions on the following page
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWeb_Music.html
    BUT the auto popup window will not work for those whom have set their browser to block popup windows (for security reasons and because they're annoying sometimes...)
    Another solution would be to embed the Blog into an iWeb page using an iframe like the example on this page:
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWeb_Blogging.html
    Another solution is provided here

    To expand on Wyodor's suggestion of iWebSites you can try this:
    1 - duplicate your domain file with the site in it.
    2 - open the duplicate and delete all the pages but the first page. Rename the two domain files to: FullSite.site2 and FirstPage.site2.
    3 - send the FirstPage.site2 domain file to the composer. I imaging you could zip that file and email it to him as it shouldn't be too large. If you have any movies or large files added to that page it may be too large to email.
    4 - the composer can open and edit that page to his specifications.
    5 - the composer sends that edited page back to you.
    6 - put the edited FirstPage.site2 file into your your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder along with the FullSite.site2 file.
    7 - use iWebSites to merge those two domain files into a new 3rd domain file.
    8 - open the new merged domain file and move the edited first page into the full site, replacing the current first page.
    Another method would be to follow this MacWorld online article: Managing an iWeb site from multiple Macs .
    There are some warnings that you must be aware of and they are described in the article and in the related, linked article/tutorial.

  • Want to automatically forward an iWeb page to another page...

    Hello all,
    I've decided to use blogger instead of the iweb system for my blog, since it's much easier to work with it off site. However, I want to automatically forward visitors to the blogspot page when they hit the "blog" tab on the pages... The way I have it currently, visitors have to click on a separate hyperlink to get to the actual blog....
    Is there a way to automatically forward visitors when they click on the "blog" link to the blogspot address?
    My website is: www.danevans.org ... the specific page I'm speaking about can be found at: http://web.mac.com/motoelvis/iWeb/DanielEvansWeddingPhotography/Blog.html

    1. In iWeb:
    Create a dummy page in your site called "Blog"
    (You have already basically done this)
    Make sure the dummy page is included in the nav bar.
    (You've already basically done this too)
    Put something like "If you have reached this page, then I am in the process of updating the site. Normally, clicking Blog in the navigation bar would take you to my Blog. CLICK HERE to visit my Blog." (CLICK HERE = a text link to your blog)
    Publish your site.
    2. Find your html files.
    Go to iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/Sitename/Pagename.html
    There are two ways to handle accessing your iDisk.
    Method 1:
    Turn on local copy of your iDisk in System Prefs, with or without automatic syncing.
    If you publish your site via iWeb, now the updated pages exist online but the old pages are on your local iDisk. You need to sync (automatically or manually) to get the new pages on your local iDisk (on your computer).
    Then you can open the updated files, make your html changes in Text Edit or whatever program, and SYNC AGAIN (automatically or manually) to update the online version of the site to match what you have just changed on your local iDisk
    Method 2:
    Mount the iDisk when needed via the "Go" menu in Finder. This is the ONLINE VERSION of your iDisk, not a local copy. When you publish your site via iWeb, the changes INSTANTLY appear on the iDisk on your desktop. If you make html edits or other changes, they appear INSTANTLY online.
    I recommend Method 2 - much easier!!!
    3. Make the html changes.
    You can open the html files generated by iWeb in any text or html editor. In TextEdit, to view the code in an HTML file, choose File > Open and select "Ignore rich text commands." Then locate the .html file (as described in step 2) and click Open.
    For all the pages in "DanielEvansWeddingPhotography" except for Blog.html, search for
    href="Blog.html"
    Replace with
    href="http://marriedtotheblog.blogspot.com/"
    Now open DanielEvansWeddingPhotography/Blog.html
    Find
    </head>
    Replace with
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" content="0;URL=”http://marriedtotheblog.blogspot.com/">
    If someone gets to this page via Google or something, it will automatically redirect them to the correct page.
    And don't forget to save your changes (not Save As, just Save)!!!
    4. Remember, if you make a change to a page like this post-publishing, and later re-publish, you have to make the html changes again! Set up a Find/Replace command in MassReplaceIt and you can do this very quickly. You can save your queries so you can make all of your changes with one click the next time you save.

  • Moving iweb pages from another computer to my laptop

    I am a teacher using iweb to compose an online newspaper for our school. I had students work in groups to create their pages: sports page, travel page, etc...
    Now I want to compile the separate pages onto my computer in order to publish on our school website, but I can't figure out how to move the pages students created into my iweb program. This is a lot of work on their part, and when I try to copy and paste the information it messes with the formatting and doesn't move pictures. I'd appreciate any help you can give me!

    I am assuming the following.....
    1) this notice is posted in the wrong area of the support pages because you are using a computer with Mac OS 10.5.6. This forum is for pre-iWeb 08 users. I assume you are using iWeb 08.
    2) Your students are using more than one Mac computer to create their web pages
    3) You are using yet another Mac computer to create your compilation page.
    The problem is this, iWeb stores all the information on a file it calls "domain" and it is stored on the individual Mac computer. Each *WEB SITE* and *WEB PAGE* within each site is in this *ONE FILE*.
    You are going to be able to do what you are hoping to accomplish, but you are going to have to learn a few more things than you want about your Mac and iWeb
    The problem is this - iWeb doesn't save the pages as individual document files. I think you were hoping to take the individual files and combine them to make your "master site." On the contrary, iWeb is saving each page as it's own "master site."
    It would be easier to just have the students use 1 computer to do their individual work. However, it is probably too late for that.
    I had a similar problem when I first started using iWeb to create my school site (http://podcast.derryasd.k12.pa.us/concerts --- notice: there is no "www" in the address)
    Here is a suggestion --- it is going to take some time for you because you are going to have to take the students' work and basically redo it by copying and pasting each aspect of the page into your "master page" on your computer.
    iWeb will publish each individual website that the students created on their individual Macs to a file
    iWeb>File>Publish to a folder.
    Have the students publish to a folder and save it to a disc/flash drive, etc and give it to you. I'm not an expert at this, and my problem was quite a while ago, but I do remember my frustration so I'll try to help here by remembering the way I did it.... which takes me to another assumption. I assume that you don't need to keep the site that you have created on your "master computer". If you want to start from scratch, just delete everything from your iWeb site on your master computer. You will need to create a new site. (iWeb>File>New Site.)
    You will then need to create individual pages for each of the student pages. (You can do this one page at a time.) You will have to choose the same templates that your students choose. You will have to take your students' work that they saved to a drive, or CD/DVD and open it and place their window (probably open in Safari) next to your iWeb window. Then you can drag copy or cut and paste as necessary all the info from the students' page into your master page. Save it and then continue the process until you have all the individual pages copied to your master file.
    Then you can upload it to your school district's server to publish the site.
    I hope this helps. I remember how frustrated I was when I was getting started -- I have no desire to use anything but iWeb now that I understand how it works.

  • How can I edit or remove iWeb pages from Mobile me after I have published it to another site?

    I have published iweb pages to another server and now I need to replace the mobile me version with page "pages moved to..." or at least I need to delete old version. However I can't find any way to do this from mobile me or from iWeb.
    From Mobile me I cant find any way to even delete pages.
    With iWeb I cant edit the old version because I cant find way to have two version of same pages. As I understand what I need is a version of my republished pages that only contains the index page "pages moved to...". But I cant create that because I cant have two versions.

  • Linking iWeb to another website

    Hi All,
    I have read the previous post about linking iWeb to another website, but I am a complete newbie to web design and need it explained to me in extreme basics.
    I purchased a name from a company called 123-Reg in the UK. As part of the setup they allow you to create a web page using simple software. I have created a page with them and simply added a link to the iWeb page.
    This works, but ideally I would like people to be automatically connected to my iWeb page when they type in the url I bought.
    Has anybody else bought a url from 123 Reg and managed to do this?
    Any comments welcome.
    Thanks
    Iain

    I think you want to check out domain forwarding. I just looked at the 123reg web site and it looks like they offer it. Click on domains and then see if there is a web site forwarding or domain forwarding option. I do this as well. I purchased aztecwrestling.com from GoDaddy, but it brings up my iweb site www.mac.com/aztecwrestling. This way anyone who types in aztecwrestling.com is directed to my site. It is up to you whether you also want to show your iweb URL or your purchased URL after they are redirected to your site.

  • Links to site come up "can't find the iweb page you've requested..."

    hi-
    i was able to successfully republish my updated website (thru mobile me). it was originally published thru .mac last year before .mac changed to mobile me. however, i noticed that my web address does not have "mobile me" in the title as in some of the other websites that i've check out on the boards here. i wonder if that's a problem because when i've e-mailed links (by dragging the address or even copy & paste) to my updated website, the links don't work. it goes to a mac page that says "we're sorry but we can't find the iWeb page you've requested..." however, if i go thru a search engine (entering the first couple words of my site title), the website comes up fine. also, if i type in the full address manually in an e-mail, the link works. the problem seems to be in the dragging of the address directly from the site. are these things related? my website address is: http://www.hale-o-lani-aloha.com. (feel free to critique the site if you have any opinions about it)
    thanks.

    Deona,
    Here's another post that might prove useful to you, from the iWeb06 forum. This may help you in the future when you want to update your site:
    Because your site is already up on the .Mac server, I would never engage in publishing the entire site again; unless, of course, you just rebuilt the whole thing. Note which pages you made changes to, and publish your site to a folder. Double-click this folder on your desktop, and open the window in column view. Navigate to the Page_files, and the Page.html.
    With the Finder window open that is showing your site, Command+N. Another Finder window will open. In this window, navigate to the same files on your iDisk, again, using the Go menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/SiteFolder/Page_files(page.html)
    From the iDisk Finder window, drag the Page_files/page.html of the pages that you made changes to to the trash. Now, from the other window, the window which shows your site in the published folder, drag these same files into the iDisk window, placing them in the same SiteFolder directory from which you dragged files to the trash. If you created a new page, you will need to also replace all other Page_files/page.html files which link to new page(s).
    What you have just done is replace only the changed files. Because the .Mac slideshow assets are already uploaded, you should not have lost the .Mac slideshow for your photo's pages. Sometimes, it can even get simpler....as an example, I have a site that contains numerous .pdf files. With these, I don't even touch the Page_files/page.html files; I simple go into the Page_files folder and replace the old .pdf file with the new, updated one. Obviously the files are named exactly the same.
    This is the best way for you to update your existing site on .Mac. You might also take a look at the ftp client, "Transmit". It works well with .Mac, with the exception that you must use the "Publish to a folder" command in iWeb.

  • How to setup a link that is of the type "Go to a page in another document"?

    Is there a direct way for a javascript to setup a link that is equivalent to the acrobat link type  you get when you add a link of the type “Go to a page in another document”?
    Tools-Advanced Editing-Link tool, make a box
    Check: Go to page view, Next (Create go to view dialog opens)
    Open second document and go to page
    Click “Create go to view dialog” to set up link
    Result is a link, when view by link properties, with an action of
    Go to a page in another document
    File: C:\My Documents\File2.pdf
    Page: 43
    Zoom level: Custom
    I have a java script in a setAction of a link that I think does the job:
    l.setAction("var otherDoc = app.openDoc('../Folder2/File2.pdf', this);otherDoc.pageNum = 1 - 1;");
    But is there a more direct way that actual sets up a “a link of the type Go to a page in another document” so if it's "advanced edited" its the same as the manual set links?
    I would like to setup a set of pdf documents, on the hard disk of a PC or Mac, that can be open with acrobat pro running on the same computer and have the link jump to, and open in a new window, in acrobat pro, to a given page of a second document in the set.
    John
    Code example in more detail:
    /* Insert document level JavaScript to set disclosed = true.
       This will run when the document is opened.*/
    this.addScript("setDisclosed", "this.disclosed = true;");
    // Search through the document for the word “Acrobat” and create a link around that word.
    for (var p = 0; p < this.numPages; p++)
        var numWords = this.getPageNumWords(p);
        for (var i=0; i<numWords; i++)
            var ckWord = this.getPageNthWord(p, i, true);
            if ( ckWord == "Acrobat")
                var q = this.getPageNthWordQuads(p, i);
                // Convert quads in default user space to rotated
                // User space used by Links.
                m = (new Matrix2D).fromRotated(this,p);
                mInv = m.invert()
                r = mInv.transform(q)
                r=r.toString()
                r = r.split(",");
                l = addLink(p, [r[4], r[5], r[2], r[3]]);
                l.borderColor = color.blue
                l.borderWidth = 1
                //l.setAction("this.getURL('http://www.adobe.com/');");
               l.setAction("var otherDoc = app.openDoc('../Folder2/File2.pdf', this);otherDoc.pageNum = 3 - 1;");
    Current Systems in use to create documents with links and view them:
    Windows XP SP3
    Word 2003 SP3
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.4.4
    Or just to view them:
    Mac OS 10 Lion version 10.7.4
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.5.1
    (note I have limited understanding of Mac’s)

    If you use buttons instead, it is possible to script adding the actions that you want. It involves creating a properly constructed FDF, saving it, and then importing it into the document. Buttons can be made to appear just like links. For more information, see: http://www.planetpdf.com/developer/article.asp?ContentID=6338

  • Copying iweb pages from one computer to another

    I have iweb pages operational on a G5.
    I want to transfer them to iweb on my macbook instead.
    I don't want to re-create them from scratch.
    I have a .mac account.
    Both iweb programs are the same version.
    This is a mac! There must be an easy way to copy the web pages from one computer to another!
    I explored the domain file route, copied the file from my G5 to the macbook, and did not get the pages I wanted. Instead I got the start page template. My information was not there.
    Any help out there?

    All your information is in a single file called "domain"
    By default it should be located in your
    user/library/application support/iWeb/ folder.
    Find it, copy it, and move it to the new computer.
    The first time you use it on the new computer double click the newly moved "domain" file to start up the iWeb application. Once you do that iWeb will remember that that is the file to open on start-up.
    I use multiple computers to edit iWeb and to avoid confusion as to which "domain" file is the most recent, I just keep it on a flash drive. Be sure to keep "domain" backed up safely on your computers and off (CD disks, external hard drives, etc) because if you lose that one file, you've lost all your work. iWeb cannot edit published pages.
    The reason you got blank pages is that you have to double click on the newly moved "domain" file to start up iWeb. Otherwise iWeb will start from the blank "domain" file that is already on the computer. You can have many "domain" files on the computer, If you start the iWeb application by clicking the iWeb icon, it will open the last "domain" file edited on that computer, which isn't the one you just moved. There is no other way to access your work.
    Good luck, David

  • Tip: How to link to a non-iWeb page in the main navigation menu.

    I've figured out an easy way to add a link to the main navigation menu which links to a URL of your choosing. For example, I have an older .Mac site using the now archaic HomePage. Instead of rebuilding all of my old pages in iWeb, I thought it would be nice to add a link to the old site from the top main navigation of the iWeb pages. Sounds easy, right? Apparently Apple has other ideas as iWeb doesn't allow you to do this.
    Here's a work-a-round:
    Step 1.) Open iWeb and add a new page to your iWeb site. Pick any template, it doesn't matter which one.
    Step 2.) Change the page name to whatever you want using the page inspector. Whatever you choose as a name here will be reflected in the main navigation menu. For example, I named my page "Photo Archives".
    Step 3.) You don't need to edit this new page at all. In fact, we're going to erase all of the content in it later. Now publish your site.
    Step 4.) If you're using .Mac, mount your iDisk to your desktop. Then navigate through the folders to: Web -> Sites -> iWeb -> <Your Site Name>. If you're hosting your site somewhere else, navigate to your root directory.
    Step 5.) You should now be looking at all of the files which make up your iWeb site. Open the dummy page we created in Step 2 in a text editor. I used BBEdit, but TextEdit (see note below) will work just fine. For example, my dummy page is named "Photo Archives.html".
    Note: If you're going to use TextEdit, you need to select the checkbox "Ignore rich-text commands in HTML files" from the Open & Save pane of the Preferences dialog PRIOR to opening the file from your iDisk.
    Step 6.) Select all of the text (Command-A) and Delete.
    Step 7.) Paste the following text, substituting the URL you want to link to.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><title></title><meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://www.mydomain.com/mypage.html" /></head><body></body></html>
    Step 8.) Save the file. You're done! You now have a link in the main navigation which goes to any URL you want.
      Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi,
    I'm OK to step seven but in your example can you highlight or make bold the "url address part " I'm to replace with my own?
    Thanks!
    Step 6.) Select all of the text (Command-A) and
    Delete.
    Step 7.) Paste the following text, substituting the
    URL you want to link to.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE html
    PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"

    tle><meta http-equiv="refresh"
    content="0;url=http://www.mydomain.com/mypage.html"
    /></head><body></body></html>
    Step 8.) Save the file. You're done! You now have a
    link in the main navigation which goes to any URL you
    want.
