Linking lap top to play movies on tv

HI: attempting to link lap top to tv. Its an older tv so have a hdmi converter plus useing new coponent cables. Get a picture on tv but rolling. And are there any settings I need to hook up with tv. Could it be that puter digital and tv isnt.

I understand that you have connected your TV to you notebook. All is working well except the picture is rolling on the TV.
You should be able to correct this issue using a setting on the TV.

TS1717 I have been running Itunes on windows vista and recently loaded Itunes on my Lap top which runs on Windows 7. When I try to play my music the Lap top only play sample music. Any suggestions?

I have a desk top which has Windows Vista. On this computer I have been running Itunes for a long time. My new computer is a Lap top and it runs Windows 7.
I recently loaded Itune on the new computer. I attemted to use Easy Transfer to transfer my Music but was unable to connected the two computers so I transferred my music to a external hard drive and loaded the music on the new computer. I have the folders and files carefully and they appear to match. When I try to run Itunes on the new computer I am unable to access the new music. Itune always goes to the sample music. The only difference I can come up with is Windows Vista and Windows 7. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Both those patches need to be manually applied to PSE 9.

First of all great show introducing iTunes Pluss (256 AAC with no DRM). Finally I will start buying music also instead of ripping them myself!
The lack of good controls for the library has suddely become a very urgent issue for me.
My iTunes is now over 100G on my LAPTOP!!!
The reason for this is that I recently started buying a lot of TV shows. Little did I think that they take at least 50x the space of a song!
I know the different ways of seperating, but I really would like to keep all my songs on my lap top and have movies/tv shows/podcasts/audio books that I have listened to move over to an external disk location when I connect to it.
I think that would be the ultimate feature there.
I would also like to have a similar features for songs where I could set all songs graded bellow a certain limit to move over to the external storage when connected.
My issue is that if I use the very cumbersome methods described already (move location to external disk, establish one more library) I am afraid to screw things up, because I defenitely do not want to have it like that in the future.
Another issue here is that all content should always be searchable, even the stuff on external storage.
This way you could order back stuff for next time your computer gets a connection to the external disk (could also be a Apple TV or Windows home Server).
A big irritation for me is also that downloading settings for Podcasts can not be set seperately. Some programs are really worth keeping all of (Like "Security Now" with Steve Gibson and Leo Laporte) and other stuff yo ujust want to have the five latest show (just like it is today).
This is how Apple should be doing things, not all this labour intensive, easy to srew up DB stuff.
May be this post should be a spot for suggestion instead, but can't find it anywhere.
Windows XP Pro

One simple and lazy option would be to set the library location to be on the external drive. Just go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced Tab, and set the iTunes folder location to be on the external drive. This would cause all new content to be saved there instead and leave you exiting content as is with no changes so not much likelihood of a problem.
The next easiest option would probably be to copy the Move/TV show files, then go though them one at a time, right click, select the "Get Info" option, and set the new location of the files. Then just delete the files off the laptop. This would free up most of the disk space, and avoid a mass migration of thousands of files.
Keep in mind that how ever you do it any content on the external drive will not be available if the drive is not connected to the laptop.
I am not sure what it is you are meaning by "that all content should always be searchable". Search able by iTunes, by the OS? As long as the drive is connected then you would have normal access to the files. It might be slower than you are used to.

Why can't the media be played? Any errors?
Was it actually backed up to the External drive or moved to the external drive? Sounds more like the latter which could potentially cause issues depend on how it was moved.

My lap top wont import pictures from auto play. it keeps saying there is a file error and a device connected to the computer isnt working properly. i have tried going into the internal storage to copy and paste the pictures but this wont work either.

I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.

Re deleting Play Movie button and associated links.

Hi - thanks in advance for any help to a newbie.
I have created an iDVD5 file from iMovie5. All went well with Chapter markers etc all coming through into my chosen theme. I started to customise the theme to my liking and noticed in the map area a file called 'Beginning' which was not one of my chapters. I saw that it was the start of the movie which I already had created a chapter marker for, and so I deleted it, thinking it superfluous. Subsequently, I noticed that the 'Play Movie" button had disappeared from the opening screen. The chapters are all intact and I can access and play these in the usual way. I can't, however, opt to play the full movie from the start because of no button or underlying link. Is there a solution?

Welcome to the discussions!
Glad you are using iDVD and making your project from iMovie! You have made an error with your chapter markers, and unfortunately, you would have had no way of knowing that.
You will have to recreate your DVD project. Go back into iMovie and delete your beginning chapter marker. As you have seen, iDVD makes the beginning chapter marker for you. Your movie will not play correctly if you do not let iDVD do this for you.
Relaunch iDVD and create the project again, then import your movie into the new iDVD....or you can use the "Create DVD" button in iMovie if that is what you did the first time and it worked for you. This time you should have all your chapter markers as well as the beginning one. You can easily rename that first marker in iDVD's scene selection menu, so that you can have it the name you wish instead of 'Beginning.'
Your movie should play and burn to DVD just fine now.

Experimental advice (in this particular context) coming up.
Open your QuickTime control panel (either via the Control panels, or by going "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences" in the Quicktime Player). In the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable Direct3D video acceleration:
... and click OK. Quit and restart the QuickTime Player prior to checking to see if the settings change has had any effect.

There is no Finder in Windows. Since this is the iTunes for Windows forum, I suspect the OP is running a Windows machine.
That being said, the concept is the same, drag the files either from iTunes or the folder where they actually exist to the SD card using Windows Explorer.

Can't get music to play from my lap top.

The little quation mark on my itunes library from my lap top is preventing it from playing a lot of my music. Is their a way to delete them or turn the quation marks off.

If it is a QuickTime movie it should play as is. No need to download anything.
If it doesn't play in QuickTime, try VLC.

Why won't my purchased music download into itunes on my phone or lap top?

I downloaded several songs from different albums and they won't show up in my itunes on my phone or on my lap top. It won't let me attempt to redownload the songs because when I look on iTunes it says purchased. Also, when I go to Quick Links on in the iTunes store and clicked on purchased, both on and not on the device, only one of the songs was recovered. I know that these songs are purchased because I received my iTunes recepit, and it also says it in the iTunes store, but I cannot play them anywhere. How can I fix this? I feel like I have tried everything I could find.

I have the exact same problem. I downloaded some TV shows this morning with no problem. By noon, I continually get the "connection timed out" message when I try to download some more. I have tried everything I have found on the discussion board so far, rebooted my computer, rebooted my internet router, turned off firewall (also McAfee), verified iTunes is an application allowed full access in my security software, flushed my dns cache, etc. I have 27 downloads waiting.
Apple support was absolutely no help. I emailed them with a full description of the problem including the error code number and I got back an email saying "The iTunes Store is unable to provide technical support".
