Sure. Do you need the connection to be wireless? Most of the time you just need an adapter and a cable to connect to the monitor. Can you tell us your Mac model and display model?

I will be buying a new laptop and I want to know if I can (and how) to combine the laptop with my desktop so that I have the same info on both. In other words if I update on the laptop will it update the same info on my desktop and vice versa?

I am new to iCal. How can I synch the iCal between my laptop and desktop?

Heather, you will need to use the iSync program. If you have a .Mac membership, you can synchronize information across multiple computers using the .Mac pane of System Preferences (in the Apple menu). Good luck! Jay

IPad crashes PC laptop with blue screen of death when syncing

I just got a brand new iPad and I cannot sync a bunch of songs or photos without it just completely shutting down my laptop (PC)and giving me the "blue screen of death". I tried reinstalling iTunes, disconnecting any USB connections I may have and completely updating my lappy...but nothing works! Why can't apple just make something as simple as "syncing" work? Do I have to buy a Mac in order for my iPad to work properly?! Please help me out with this syncing problem.

So I have my i mac and my ibook G4. I would like them to sync - photo's the same / itunes the same the whole lot to be the same. Files folders etc.Is there any software out there that can help me. At the moment its a manual process of making sure that pictures and music are independently downloaded onto both machines.

Well, iSync is purely for syncing Contacts and Calendars/Events to mobile phones and PDAs, so it won't do what you want.
Have a look at ChronoSync though... or maybe the free Silverkeeper will do what you want.

Can you run (G550) laptop with screen closed?

I'm thinking of using my laptop as my main machine connected ot my monitor and use input devices. However, when I tried, closing the screen automatically hibernates the laptop. Is it possible to run the laptop with the screen closed?

you can do it on every laptop
cause there is a power option on windows operating system that you can set it to the prefrences that you like
for instance not to shut down or hybernate when you close the lid

Grub2 with two screens only shows up on one

I have recently installed Arch, and kudos, everything works almost perfect out of the box so to say. I had few hickups with some hardware, but everything resolved just fine in less than few hours thanks to magic of Google and Arch Wiki. As you probably guess I am quite new to Arch, but I am kind-a noob in disguise since I have beem Redhat user since around version 5.1 of their "Fedora" predecessor. Anyway I still consider myself a newbie since I have always been more of a user less of sysadmin/tweaker. I am a programmer and don't really care much about os internals as long as everything *just works*.
Now I have installed Arch on a laptop with external screen attached to it and have troubles with GRUBs boot screen not showing up on 2nd monitor. Boot menu only shows up on a built-in laptop screen, not on external one, There are no problems with my monitors, everything works as intended once system boots to X, however I can't get GRUB to show up on both screens. As my setup considered, I use this laptop as a dekstop replacement, so it sits on a shelf below my desk and since I don't see laptop screen at all, you understand, it is quite of inconvenience :-).. I have external monitor, keyboard and a mouse attached to it to VGA and usb ports so it really don't feels as laptop at all. I have managed to confiugre window managers to turn off laptop screen after login (shame to waste power and burn pixels if I can't see them), but I can't manage to get GRUB to show up on external monitor. Of course I have Arch as default so it boots into Arch anyway, and Windows is just below so I can blindly switch to windows by just pressing one arrow key, but I still have to look below the desk just to pick the right timing to press the arrow key for those rare occasions when I have to boot into windows :-). And most notably: I never had this problem with GRUB before and yes I had Fedora installed on this system as well.
I am using grub in text mode, I don't care for fancy splashes at boot time and so on.
I have googled quite a bit and seen that other people also have this issue, but I haven't seen any good answer yet. On one forum there is an answer that GRUB can't see the 2nd screen at boot time since it speaks only to BIOS (or uefi better to say), but I don't think its true. I am using my 2nd screen without problems in uefi bios mode, and windows boot mngr shows just fine on both screens, so it must be some setting for GRUB that I can't find.
I hope I am asking question in proper section, if not feel free to move it around.

Of course easiest way woud be to just format c:\ to ext4 and not need to boot into Windows at all, but alas, I do make money on guess what: programming VBA and automating databases with Access and Excel - I can tell you, vba programmers seem to be an extinct art so there is money to be made :-).

@The Saint - yeah, I realized after I posted that this was wrong thread. I am new to Arch wiki and was too fast to post. I came to forum with intend to ask this question, looked quickly through sections, saw "hardware" and posted just to realize afterwards it is ment hardware in context of kernel. This should probably be moved to some other section of the forum. I am sorry for inconvenience.
@Glow - I see uefi bios on my 2nd screen, no problems here. When I run live dvd I also see it on 2nd screen, but I think the dvd is using Syslinux instead of Grub. I have not tried another boot loader with Arch and Windows. Would like to use Grub2 actually just because I am familiar with it and it boots fine both linux and windows. So I would in first hand like to fix issue with Grub if possible, but if not I will have to look into some other boot loader.

Replacing HD screen with HD+ screen for t430s

I don't know anything about the place you reference or the quality of their screens, but you do not need to change the cable in order to change the panel. Be careful when unplugging the cable behind the screen. The connectors are fragile and it is easier the second time you do it.

I need to install the HP drivers on a laptop with a broken screen in order to get VGA port to work.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
Hewlett Packard Model: 2000 2a20ca Notebook
Oh my god please give me some insight here, it is so hard to find the right answers and I refuse to lose to this technical box that's driving me nuts! So here's the run down:
My screen broke on laptop...fine. It was connected via HDMI to TV and working fine. Until one day it decided to not turn on. I think due to Windows updates and hubby had no patience so kept restarting
I tried to reload Windows on it, not thinking about the drivers, and I'm pretty sure I managed to reload Windows. Now I need the drivers to install chipset, networking etc. (which I have a disc for)
The problem is I cannot see the screen in order to click "install", I can't see the BIOS or the boot sequence. Ugh! And even if I could, the drivers are not installed to use the CD ROM or VGA port.
I can HEAR Windows start up and turn on! Doo-DO-Doo-DO lol the darn thing is working!
The monitor works in my other laptop.
Would/Should the VGA monitor work if I could get it to start in safe mode?
I've heard of a program that can streamline the driver's into a Windows installation disc so everything is installed altogether but how can I reinstall Windows if the drivers aren't loaded for the CD ROM?
Is there a way to get the necessary drivers installed? or is this notebook now garbage?

Getting the drivers is not the problem. Getting the drivers installed on a laptop with a broken screen...is the problem.
Ok, well sometimes you can't use external monitor to see what is happening in some laptops and the only real way to fix this is to fix the broken screen so you can reformat and resinstall the system again. Those are you only options at this point in time.

No Internet Access on laptop but access with desktop

I have a WRT54G wireless router. The desktop has a wireless adapter installed and I can hit the internet.
I have been able to connect to the internet with the laptop until I updated drivers for the Bios. After doing that I can no longer access the internet.
laptop OS: XP Home Edition
Desktop OS: XP Home Edition
With desktop I can log into the router web page, but can not do so with latop. I can however ping successfully the router ip address 192.168.1.1 with the laptop. When I run ipconfig/all on the laptop, the DHCP Server is set to 192.168.1.1, but the Default Gateway is not set, and the IP Address and subnet Mask are set. Should the Default Gateway be set?
I can access the network with the built in wireless adapter on the laptop which is a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN device.

have u assigned any static ip address to the laptop....if so , ensure that u have entered the dns address as well...u can get the dns numbers off of the status page on the router ui.......
also , make sure that the firewall , if any , is disabled ..

I have ipod/itunes on two computers and two user names. The desktop has my old songs, I have since gotten a laptop and have built my music collection on it. I want to share my most current music on my laptop with my old computer, which is outdated.

How do I clean up two user names and share most current music on laptop with the older computer and out of date ipod music. I have to do this carefully, so I don't lose the most current music library on the laptop?

For songs purchased from the iTunes Store, you can use iTunes to transfer from iPod to computer. The command (in the current version of iTunes) is at
iTunes Menu Bar -> File -> Devices -> Transfer Purchases from [name of iPod]
However, you may need to have your current computer authorized with the Apple ID (iTunes Store account) used to make the purchase. If you do not, the purchases from that Apple ID may not transfer.
There are third-party methods and utiltiies (not using iTunes) to transfer song files from iPod to computer. These should not care about Apple ID or that a particular song was purchased from iTunes Store or not. If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files from the two older shuffles are transferred to your computer, you can add those songs to your iTunes library. Then, sync your 4th gen shuffle from the "consolidated" iTunes library.

Time Machine on my iMac won't open iPhoto. It goes to desktop screen automatically. When I select User/Picture/Iphoto library it only brings up the preview page with the size of the folder. I can't get into the library to look for lost photos.

Thank You. This helps me alot to get into the masters and to see events and photos in a utilitarian way, but it is not as easy as viewing the normal iphoto format to find photos. Can I do something else or did I not do something right to not see normal iphoto in Time Machine ?
