Depending on what video input you have on your TV you will need to purchase a mini dvi to xxx adaptor to display images on your TV

  • Linking Macbook Pro to TV (Poor Video Quality)

    Hello All,
I had a 2 questions regarding linking my video from my MacBook Pro to my TV. I bought the cable that allows me to display videos etc on my TV, but the graphic quality was very poor. The TV is HD and only 2 years old, and my MacBook is brand new with 512 video card.
    1. After connecting and getting the video to display on the TV the picture quality was grainy and the color was off. Is there a way to improve the picture quality &/or a link to a idiots guide for doing this.
    2. I will be teaching soon and I wanted to be able to display Flash &/or video clips on a projector in front of the class, but I dont want the quality to be poor (as in the problem above).
Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if its just pointing me to a cite with more info on how to do this.
Thank you again for your help,
    Valance

I am having the same problem, hooking up a MBP Core 2 Duo to a Samsung HD LCD. My display settings are 1080p and I am connecting from DVI to HDMI.
My problem is the same, that the image appears grainy and the color is way off. Tried some different color profiles, but I am dissapointed that my HD show doesn't seem to be the same HD quality that I am used to in real HD broadcasts.
Also looking for good tips or an idiot's guide.

  • Linking MacBook to PC specifically for editing Word documents

I wish to write Word files on my new MacBook, and link to a PC for desktop editing of long documents. Is this just a matter of linking via the Ethernet ports and network capability, or what? Please advise. [NB

  • Linking Macbook air to lexmark printer

Can someone advise what I am doing wrong. Just bought macbook air and trying to link it to my lexmark printer x9575. Downloaded driver and works with usb connection but when I try to print worelessly, it does not connect to printer.  Printer is on network and prints fine with other computers in the network. Mac is fine , wifi and internet etc all working, so why are they not linking up?

    Hi there mernalmonster!
I have a couple of articles that can help you troubleshoot this issue with printing from your MacBook Air. First, make sure you have set up the printer properly by taking a look at the steps in the following article:
Mac Basics: Printing in OS X Mountain Lion & OS X Lion
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4670
You may want to take special note of this line in the instructions as well:
Tip: If you want a Windows PC to use a Mac printer share to print, install Bonjour Print Services for Windows.
If you are still experiencing issues after double-checking your settings in the previous article, then you may need to reference this article about troubleshooting printing issues:

  • Linking MacBook Pro to monitor

    Hi,
I have just purchased a Dell U2410 to connect to my MacBook Pro.
Please can anyone advise the best connector to buy and whether there's anything I need to know to set it up.  Would like to setup the laptop screen as a second screen if possible.
Not sure if this is the correct community to post into but assumed it was OK as it would use the Thunderbolt connection.
    Many thanks, Karen

    Hi Karen:
I too bought the Dell u2410 to use with my MacBook Pro 13" late 2011.
There is a way to adjust the brightness of the monitor, but you have to be clairvoyant or just lucky to know it.  ;-p
At the end of my post I have an explanation for the way to do it.
Basically, Dell monitor control industrial design #FAIL. You have to know to hover over the correct, tiny blue light first to activate the controls.
/rant/ They don't look like buttons, you're not used to touching a single light LED to activate something, they don't appear pushable, the first one has a more important function and so is different but doesn't look or feel obviously different from the other little lights, there are two ways of reading the row (upward vs. downward), and it's different from many other displays. In short, you gain nothing, they save a little on mechanical parts, and you're confused and spend $300 of billable time figuring  all this out./rant/ (*the first light does stay lit a tad longer, but that's a wee bit subtle to be discoverable the first few times)
When I first I hooked up the monitor, all the feedback from the display was a little floating message for "no VGA connection". I read over the setup sheet, which was no help. Plus the useful info is printed in 2-point type. After 2 hours of mystified fumbling all around the front, sides, top, bottom, and rear of the monitor face, googling, flipping around Settings on the MBP, etc., I read a post on the Dell support forum for a fellow sufferer that held the clue.
    Settings/Options location:
Basically, on the display frame, just above the on/off button (which is a real, pushable button praise god), there is a series of 5 tiny blue lights spaced about 1/2" apart. If you happen to fumble lightly over the bottom one and not on any of the other blue light dots first, and not too hard or it activates and vanishes again, this displays the monitor controls. [whew!]
    So:
    1) hover over or lightly touch the bottom tiny blue light to show/hide monitor settings, then
    2) you should see a little vertical panel appear nearby on the display
    3) the other little blue lights let you choose from Presets, Brightness, Inputs, and Menu.
    4) Inputs lets you tell the monitor which cable input you're using
    5) Brightness/Contrast has controls so you can adjust the levels
    6) Menu contains loads of useful settings, including:  color profile, gamma (set it to Mac instead of PC), presets for different needs, Zoom, PIP, and customizable stuff.
Once I adjusted a bunch of stuff under the Menu, the monitor didn't clash so much or burn my eyes out compared with the MBP. I recommend it.
I conclude that Menu used to be the only touchlight/button, which would be much easier; it includes everything the other buttons control, and the other lights were probably added to regain the old quick-access brightness etc.
(btw I am using a miniDisplayport to Displayport cable, 3rd party from Monoprice, which someone else recommended in another post. not yet sure if it's the best choice although it works fine)

  • Link Macbook Air to new iMac

i have a new iMac which i will need to access on my laptop when i travel. how can i connect to it remotely? my accounting program uses Bonjour to host the files so if i am traveling (and therefore using a different network on my laptop) will i still be able to connect to the file on my iMac?

The iTwin device has been getting some good reviews for performing the task you describe.

  • Setting up Safari account on Retina 5K

I'm setting up a Safari account and a group of apps on my new Retina 5K OS X Yosemite 10.10.
It has so far been setting up for 55 minutes.
    I cannot canel the set-up.
I cannot turn off the computer (except by hard-booting, which I don't want to do)
Has my computer crashed or does Safari take a long time to set up?
Have I accidentally omitted an intervening step in this process?
I have a Safari account on a non-linked MacBook Pro. Does this matter?

    John,
What do you mean you are setting up a Safari account? Safari is a web browser that requires no set up!

  • IP Configuration - IP in use? Any help much appreciated!

    Hi all,
I have a slight problem with a new Time Capsule.
    The set up:
    *TC 500gb*
    *ADSL modem (D Link)*
    *MacBook Air*
    *HP Printer/Scanner/Copier 3210*
    *iPod touch*
The Printer is connected via ethernet to the Time Capsule.
Both the MacBook Air and the iPod touch connect via WiFi.
The modem connects to the internet port on the Time Capsule.
I receive an error message every time I power on the printer, or turn WiFi on the iPod touch.
    The message is:
    *IP Configuration*
*62.249.169.50 is in use by 00:1d:4f:11:6f:d3, DHCP Server 192.168.1.1*
That last part, 192.168.1.1 happens to be the address I have to type to access the D Link modem's config page via the web browser.
Within this page, I have the following option:
The device can be setup as a DHCP Server to distribute IP addresses to the LAN network.
    There are two choices:
    *No DHCP*
Choose this option. The IP address must be manually assigned at each device connected to DSL-320T.
    *DHCP Server*
Choose this option to setup as a DHCP server to distribute IP addresses to the LAN network.
Currently, the second option is selected.
    Beneath this, is the following:
    *DHCP Server*
    Starting IP Address: 192.168.1.2
    Ending IP Address: 192.168.1.254
    Lease Time 60 seconds
The starting and ending IP, and the lease time, can all be changed.
If I don't power on the printer or turn on the iPod's WiFi, everything works ok.
However, with the message appearing, I can't use the printer or web on the iPod.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm guessing I need to change an IP address, or something...
Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks in advance,
    -Chris

Hello iPhone. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Since both of your AirPorts are 802.11n models, I suggest that you use the "extend" network feature available to these models versus using a WDS.
Here is the basic setup steps to extend the AirPorts.
o If practical, place the base stations in near proximity to each other during the setup phase. Once done, move them to their desired locations.
o Open AirPort Utility and select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
o Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
o Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
o Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
o Enter the base station network and base station password is necessary.
o Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.

  • Full screen mode blacks out my second screen

Help, love fullscreen mode but it blacks out my linked Macbook pro too. How do I stop this?
    Hope someone can help.
    Louise

When you're in full screen - use the same shortcuts when in normal mode to control the Secondary Viewer, ie, Option + M - mirror, Option + A - alternate - Option + S - Span, Option + B - Blank (probably what its set to currently), or Option + X - Desktop

  • I've been trying to link my apple id to my macbook. every time i try this it doesn't work and gives me a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in. any help on the matter would be great.

so everytime i try and link my apple id to my macbook (mid 07) it doesnt work and i get the yellow triangle. i recently reset my mac as i forgot my password. in the process i made another user to reset my password. doing this i went through the complete start up of a macbook (from when you buy from new). i dont know if this has anything to do with this problem. but i have now deleted that user.
    any help is much appriciated.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • 2012 13" MacBook Pro constant rainbow wheel and heating after upgrade to Yosemite. Link Davis can you please have a look?

Hey guys, I've been trying to save my mac from this constant lag for the past few days to no avail. I've been reading the forums and trying to figure this out myself but I haven't been able to reach a solution so here I am. I've done a clean reinstall. I've run disk permissions and repaired the disk. I've reset PRAM. I don't have FileVault running. I am constantly getting rainbow wheel, even as I'm typing this question out. Applications freeze in their own windows, for example, Chrome will freeze but I will still be able to move over to another application like safari and use safari. It's practically impossible to run any kind media because it stutters constantly. Any and all help is welcome, thanks in advance.
    Problem description:
Mid 2012 13” Macbook Pro slowed to a crawl after update to Yosemite. I currently have 10.10.1 running. I have tried a clean install, I’ve resetted PRAM, I’ve run disk permission verification and repair. None have helped. I constantly get rainbow wheel and all sorts of media stutters.
Below are my EtreCheck results. Any and all help is welcome, thanks in advance guys.

  • How do I get my Macbook Pro 15" to run dual monitor setup with Dual Link DVI outputs

I own have two 27" 2560x1440 WQHD LED IPS Computer monitors and have been trying to get them to work with my macbook pro 15" w retina for over a month now. I have purchased multiple products and nothing has worked. The big problem is that the only input that the monitors have is a Dual Link DVI input. The closest that i have gotten to getting them to work was this morning when I bought 2 Mini Display Port to Dual Link DVI Adapters for $99 a peice. Below is a link
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-ada pter?afid=p219%7CGOUS&cid=AOS-US-KWG-PLA
Problem is that when I hook them up, I still only get a picture on one of the screens. Also, it requires you to plug into a mini Display port and USB port which takes up all of the space for me to run any othe peripherals. Though it has a built in USB port, when I plug my apple keybaord into it, I get an saying "USB Device Needs power, connect "keyboard Hub" to power or usb port on this mac"
I have looked everywhere for a docking station that would satisfy my needs, however, it does not exist. I use my macbook as my main office computer and take it home with me every night. I switched from the lenovo thinkpad to the macbook and have been satsified with my decision except for the fact that i cannot connect my monitors to it.
    Please help!

Yes, that would work, however it would cost me $2000 for the monitors.

  • HT201335 I want to watch an iTunes rental video on my MacBook Pro but stream the sound to my Airport Express linked speakers.  However re Airplay icon doesn't show up in iTunes when playing the rental video.  Is there a way around that?

I want to watch an iTunes rental video on my MacBook Pro but AirPlay the audio to my AirPort Express linked speakers.  However the AirPlay icon isn't available when arching the rental video in iTunes.   Is there another way?  Do I need to but an AppleTV?  I don't own a TV, hence why I want to watch on my MacBook Pro.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
With or without an Apple TV you can't send video to one device and audio to another using AirPlay.

  • Mid 2010 MacBook Pro screen freakout - video link

    Hello there,
My mid-2010 15 inch MacBook Pro has started freaking out since about the time that I installed Lion on it - however I'm not convinced that Lion is the culprit. I have Snow Leopard partition and it does it there too.
Every so often the screen goes insane and the whole thing crashes. There's a YouTube link below of it happening.
Originally I thought it was the problem with the Nvidia drivers that many people have reported as being faulty in the mid-2010 models only. So I installed gfxCardStatus to lock the computer to the integrated Intel card and the problem seemed to slow down but now it's back with a vengeance.
    Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6kVOQYauLw
It happens when the computer's busy and it happens when it's doing nothing. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason.
Also, if I try and restart immediately after shut down, the white light on the front comes on and I can hear the fans but nothing else happens. At other times, if I try and restart immediately, I hear three beeps which I gather is a complaint about the RAM. However, if I leave it half and hour to an hour it'll restart without a problem but only for it to freak out again at some point.
I found this knowledge base article and wonder if it might be it: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
Anyway, any help or advice will be gratefully received.
    Thanks in advance!

Curiously, I don't have that option. It only gives me the option to disable Automatic graphics switching where it should give the better battery life or higher performance options. Do I have something disabled that gets rid of that option? It's the same under the Battery or Power Adapter options.
I'm going to take it to a genius but I'm wondering from reading other forums that maybe one of my RAM slots is bad. I want to have a play but will the genius know if I've opened it up and then possibly refuse it? If it is bad RAM then I can fix that myself without having to travel 70 miles to my nearest Apple Store. Is there a seal that I would break that would give away the fact that I've opened it up?
Thanks for the advice so far.
