Linking one PDF to another

Hi,
I have Acrobat X1 Pro and am creating a couple of Fillable forms, at the bottom of the forms I will have two buttons Save and Send.  The document itself  will also have an accept and reject option but what I would like to do is if I click on select, a second stage PDF form will come into view for completion.
Is this possible to do and if so, how would I do this.
FYI the forms will need to be used on both computers and iPads.
Thanks
Caroline

  • I would like to simply link one pdf to another

I would like to link one pdf to another. I create the hyperlink, however when it is selected, I get an error, and it wants to open a webpage.
Any help? I figured this would be a no brainer.

You probably already have your answer by now....
When creating your link, make sure the link action is Open a File.

  • Linking from one PDF to another: Is there a more efficient way?

    Some background first:
We make a large catalog (400pages) in Indesign and it's updated every year. We are a wholesale distributor and our pricing changes so we also make a price list with price ref # that corresponded with #s printed in the main catalogue.  Last year we also made this catalog interactive so that a pdf of it could be browsed using links and bookmarks. This is not too difficult using Indesign and making any adjustments in the exported PDF. Here is the part that becomes tedious and is especially so this year:
We also set up links in the main catalog that go to the price list pdf - opening the page with the item's price ref # and prices... Here's my biggest issue - I have not found any way to do this except making links one at a time in Acrobat Pro (and setting various specifications like focus and action and which page (in the price list) to open) Last year this wasn't too bad because we used only one price list. It still took some time to go through and set up 400-500 links individually.
This year we've simplified our linking a little by putting only one link per page but that is still 400 links. And this year I have 6 different price lists (price tiers...) to link to the main catalogue pdf. (That's in the neighborhood of 1200-1500 double clicking the link(button) to open Button Properties, click Actions tab, click Add..."Go to page view" , set link to other pdf page, click edit, change Open in to "New Window" and set Zoom.  This isn't a big deal if you only have a few Next, Previous, Home kind of buttons....but it's huge when you have hundreds of links. Surely there's a better way?
Is there anyway in Acrobat or Indesign to more efficiently create and edit hundreds of links from one pdf to another?
If anything is unclear and my question doesn't make sense please ask. I will do my best to help you answer my questions.
    Thanks

George, I looked at the article talking about the fdf files and it sounds interesting. I've gathered that I could manipulate the pdf links by making an fdf file and importing that into the PDF, correct?
Now, I wondered - can I export an fdf from the current pdf and then change what is in there and import it back into the pdf.  I've tried this (Forms>More Form Options>Manage Form Data>Export Data) and then opened the fdf in a text editor but I see nothing related to the documents links... I assume this is because the links are 'form' data to begin with - but is there away to export something with link data like that described in the article link you provided?
    Thanks

  • I am trying to drag and drop one page of a .pdf into another .pdf in Acrobat Reader.  I used to be able to drag and drop from one .pdf to another.

I am trying to drag and drop one page of a .pdf into another .pdf in Acrobat Reader.  I used to be able to drag and drop from one .pdf to another.

If you could drag and drop pages before, it wasn't in Reader. You no doubt had Adobe Acrobat (Pro or Standard) which shouldn't be confused with Adobe Acrobat Reader. They recently added Acrobat to the name of Adobe Reader so the confusion about which product you had and/or have is understandable.

  • How to copy form data from one pdf to another?

    Hi,
I have created a pdf, added form data to it. Saved the form data as a fdf file - all good.
I've updated the document and saved as a new pdf and would like to load the fdf data into it.
So I select tools - forms - more forms options, and press the "import" function  - it goes grey and nothing happens.
If I re-open the document the import function remains greyed out.
I can find no way to import this data.... any ideas?
I've tried going into form edit mode - adding a new field.  The import option is no longer greyed out so I click it and can select the fdf file hit open and ... the dialogue disappears and nothing happens.
Is my Acrobat XI 11.0.07 badly installed - or what?

You need to learn about the different types of PDFs. PDF/ A is an archive format that does not allow changes. PDF/X is used for graphics exchange
For forms I would use only the PDF with a target version. Do not use the Optimizer feature.
Forms always become larger due to the need to include the font for the various form fields. You might have to review the type fonts used by the form fields and one standard font as much a possible.
It is possible to use the FDF file to move field values from one PDF to another.
If you are trying to replace the underlying content and keep the form fields, use the replace pages.

  • How to cut and paste from one PDF to another

Acrobat Pro - 2 weeks ago I could cut and paste text from one PDF to another doc or PDF but now the cursor has disappeared and I only get a hand.  I can no longer highlight text. Is there something in the settings I can change?

Is this one one pdf or all pdfs? Do you have the correct tool selected?

  • Linking one scene to another...

    Hi,
Iv been making video's for awhile but what still confuses me
is whats the best way to link one scene to another? on adobe
premiere elements its got alot of different ways to link media
files but most i don't tend to use because i don't want the
transactions to distract me when making, i tend to either use a
cross dissolve of dip in black effect or fade in/fade out video
effect. Without some sort of linking transaction the overall video
looks undone and messy, however to many effects makes the video
look more about the effects than the video itself and id rather
keep the transactions basic, having a dissolve link to long makes
the clips to short and when making a dissolve to short it looks out
of place and like a blinking effect! Does anyone get me? if so
    please post!
    x

I'm not 100% sure you are asking about flash - your entire
post sounds like a Premiere question. But
you do mention "scenes" and how to "link" them together -
what's confusing for me is that there is
no need to "link" scenes together in Flash - when compiled,
all scenes become one long timeline.
Scenes in Flash are a managment convenience in the Flash IDE
    only.
Do you have a Flash document where you have buttons in 1
scene and trying to script them to send the
playhead to frames or labels in another scene?
Flash doesn't make "videos" in the true sense of the word -
it is not a video editor like premiere.
Sorry if I misunderstood - what exactly are you asking?

  • When moving a page from one pdf to another I see a message "consolidating fonts" and the added page does not view properly

I am working with multiple PDF files in Acrobat Pro XI.  Sometimes when I move a page from one PDF to another it does not view properly.  It was fine in the source PDF, but not when moved to the desired PDF.  I also see a message momentarily across the bottom of my screen that says "consolidating fonts".  What must I do to fix this?

    Lloyd ,
Follow these steps for Acrobat 11 .
    Launch Acrobat>Tools>Print Production>Acrobat Distiller
Now in Acrobat Distiller follow these.
    Select Standard in Default settings.
Go to Settings and select Edit Adobe PDF Settings.
Select Fonts and in the font source window select the fonts you want to Add.
Click Save As and then OK.
    See if this helps.

  • How to link one menu to another.

    Hey guys,
I am creating a user input form for car types and car parts. I want to link one menu to another. I.e. the first menu will be make with a list of car makes, and if the user chooses "Ford" then the next menu will load items from a table "Ford" with the Ford models in it. I have the tables created in a database, one tabel is make with 50 different makes, and then i have 50 other tables for each make with the model types in it.
Sorry if this is confusing please ask me if you need any more info.
    Thanks in advance

What you are looking for is a dependent drop-down menu. To get the values for the second menu, you need to send another request to the server, either by submitting the form again, or by using an Ajax request to populate the dependent drop-down. I don't know of any online tutorials for doing this, but you should be able to find something by doing a Google search. I know that "jQuery in Action, Second Edition" by Bear Bibeault and Yehuda Katz (published by Manning) describes in considerable detail how to do this.

  • Error message appears when linking one project to another.

I keep having problems linking a captivate project to another project.  The projects are saved as .cp files stored in the same folder as all of my other Captivate files.  I did publish them to .htm files and it worked.
Why would they not link properly when they are in .cp format?  It also gives me a message that states the directory the file is in does not exist.  However, I have checked the pathfile name twice and it is correct.
Any ideas what may be happening?

The last Captivate version to use .cp format was Captivate 4.  So you must be speaking about version 4 or earlier here?
The .cp format is the source project file, not an output format like HTML/SWF or PDF.  You may be accustomed to other software apps like MS Office where the output is the same as the source (DOC, PPT, XLS, etc) but Captivate is a different beast.
There's no point trying to link one Captivate project file to another.  What you are probably hoping to do is link the OUTPUT from one Captivate project to the OUTPUT from another project.  Is that correct?

  • Copy selection from one pdf to another pdf

Who knows how I can copy a selection from one pdf (including pictures and text) into another pdf?

can you post the pdf you're copying from and copying into?
It sounds like they're not well formed PDF files.
As the copied image on the clipboard is pasted as a comment you can also
drag the handles of the image once it's copied into the pdf. It tends to
paste the image at full size making the quality appear less.
failing that, you could try pasting into Word first, then make a new
copy of the image in Word and paste that as a comment instead.
Also you can set the resolution of the image captured by the snapshot
    tool in Acrobat's  preferences:
edit>preferences>general> 'Used fixed resolution for snapshot tool'
As mentioned before you can also place an existing image (like a jpeg)
into a PDF using the touchup Object tool. (Acrobat Pro or higher)
Select the touchup object tool from tools>advanced editing
then right-click in the pdf and select 'Place image' then select the
    image to be inserted.
Some resizing will be required when doing this.

  • Linking one JSP to another

How do you create a link going from one JSP to another?
I would like to know how to go by clicking on a link on the first page which when clicked will take you to the second.
I would also like to know how to go to the next page if a certain condition is met.
    Thank you in advance.

Sorry I was not that clear before.
I would like to know how to open another JSP page if a

    Thank you.

  • Linking one file to another

Is there a way to link 1 file to another file using Numbers '08? I can easily link worksheet to worksheet, but what if I want to link information from "file 1A" to a cell in a completely different one- like "file 1b" - that is not associated with the other file?
    Help?

Question asked and resoonded many tilmes.
    (1) Numbers '08' will no longer evplve.
    (2) the wanted feature is unavailable in Numbers '09.
We may build a workaround with an Applescript but it will require a human action to update data wich is far from being safe.
For a user with very specific needs, I wrote an Applrscript wich ask the values in Display dialogs" and store them in several files.
It's the more efficient workaround which I was able to write.
