Linking photo from iWeb08

Hi guys, need help...
Just upgraded to iLife 08, the problem is, I used to be able to link photo from my .mac page to , say, forums with scripts like

But after I upgrade my page with the new iWeb, I can't find a way to link it, anyway I could enable externally linking my photos?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the discussions. Try taking the spaces out because they are being converted to "%20" here:
"imghttp://web.mac.com/jemmer/iWeb/Album/a%20day%20%40%20D-bay%20vol.1files/Photo1211A.jpg[/img]
As iWeb's Help viewer says: "Browsers convert spaces in site names to "%20." To avoid these symbols, use an underscore, hyphen, or some other character instead of a space. Also avoid non-Roman characters; many get converted to numbers when you publish.
Other characters aren't recommended for use in website names, including: forward and backward slashes (/ \), brackets ([ ]), tilde (~), exclamation point (!), question mark (?), "at" sign (@), number sign (#), dollar sign ($), ampersand (&), asterisk (*), colon (:), equal sign (=), comma (,), and double quotation marks ("). Using these characters may result in names with strange numbers in them."

• Can you link Photos from Picassa to the iPod?

I want to get an iPod for a friend who uses a PC and Picassa to organize her photos. Will the iPod easily recognize Picassa and copy the photos to the iPod, or would she have to somehow move the photos from Picassa to the iPod?
Thank you

Nope, Picassa won't recognize an iPod, and you cannot sync from Picassa directly to the iPod.
As long as they know where the picture files are on their computer, they can put them on through iTunes, though. They just choose the folder with the pictures on it, and all pictures in the folder will go to the iPod.

• Linked photo from somewhere

I purchased a Dreamweaver template and decided to add five
photos to one page instead of the three photos that came with the
template. I deleted the three originals and inserted the five new
photos. I had to create two additional blocks for the two
additional photos of course.
But when I preview the page in the browser, the original
three photos still show up and the two new photos show up
correctly. I cannot understand why the new photos replacing the
original three still appear when I have repeatedly resaved and
reinserted the new photos.
In addition to this, the three photos when viewed on the web,
when clicked immediately take the viewer to a gallery section of
photos. Strange indeed. I don't know what is going on.
To increase the mystery, when viewing the page in Internet
Explorer browser, the all photos show up correctly. When I go to
the Firefox browser, I see the problem.
Any hints anyone? Where in the code could I check for this
weirdness? Cache problems? CSS?

Yes, the url is www.holytrinitylittleton.com If you click the
about us menu button, that is where the problem appears. However,
if the top photo on the left hand side of the text is a minister,
then that proves the problem lies with my browser Firefox and the
cache, I imagine. It is still strange that the photos would act
like a link to gallery section.

• Trouble with workflow: importing photos from Flickr

I seem to be having difficulty with my first attempt. I've created a workflow (as per automator.us tutorial) to import linked photos from the current web page (in this case a Flickr Groups page of which I am the Administrator) and put them in iPhoto. The workflow seems to run (I get little green checkmark-circles in the lower left of each step, and the folder I have specified is created in iPhoto), however the photos do not show up and the count is 0. What am I missing?
Also (related?), sometimes when I try to switch to Automator from the web page or from iPhoto, only the last used application will surface; Automator stays hidden and I usually have to finegle my way to grab part of the window.
Any ideas? Thanks
Drelika

Hi
Thanks for your response. I went to Flickr and examined the links. I don't know much about web pages but I understand what you mean. So, does this mean that I can't automate the downloading of these photos or is there some way I can modify the workflow to work? I'm really hoping I don't have to download 236 photos one at a time!

• Import photo from web to iphoto not working

I follow the directions of Apples own design to download photos to a folder and then transfer them into an album in iPhoto. Each time I do so, I get the follow error message:
__Can't make «class impo» of application "iPhoto" into type boolean. (-1700)__
Here is a link to page describing how to do this.
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/automator/example2.html
Thought maybe had a corrupt or something wrong with library. I decided to copy library to new drive and start fresh with a new library. Used the program iPhoto Library Manager to do this. Now I have deleted the old library under Pictures and have created new library. Still the same results.
I also try the contextual method where I can select "Add Image to iPhoto Library" but nothing happens there either. I don't get the error message.. iphoto launches but no added image.
This has never worked for me. Anyone have any ideas?

I have been sucessfully downloading linked photos from some web pages with Automator. I have been able to download them into a folder on the desktop with
out using iPhoto. It is the website that determines if they can be downloaded. If each page of the website has a different URL and each photo has it's own URL then they can be downloaded by the page with Automator. If the URL at the top of the page remains the same as you move from page to page or image to image then Automator will not download any of the images. My website is the type with a different URL for each page and image. Give it a try with Automator. http://www.philsaeronauticalstuff.com. I use tables to build my webpage;not CSS.

• No longer seeing photos from linked library.

Greetings all,
I'm using iPhoto v 9.6 and I've just tried to open it to arrange some photos and now I do not see any photos from my linked iPhoto library (besides those in my camera roll).  iPhoto is giving me the instructions on how to add photos to the iPhoto library, as if this was a new machine.
For many years I have linked my iPhoto to an older library on an external hard drive.  I still use this library and I can see the library on that drive but they will not link.  I've tried going into iPhoto>File>Switch to Library... and chosen the correct library (which is shown as the default) which doesn't change anything, I have also tried opening iPhoto while holding down the 'option' key and selecting the correct library, again it is the one that has "(default)" next to it, yet no photos show up in my library.
It feels to me like there has been some kind of update that might have made it difficult to use my old library.  I know it has recently been asking me to 'repair' or 'update' my library, I forget which one because I would routinely just select "yes" and things would be fixed.  All of my photos for the last 5-10 years were organized in that library.  It's not lost, it's just not linking to my iPhoto.  Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to reconnect them?
Thank you.

Hi Larry,
Thank you for your response, it is in the correct format I believe.
I use the iPhoto library that sits on my WesternDigital Passport external HD.  I have been able to open iPhoto, using the library on that device, for several years now.
However, as of today, when I open my iPhoto there are none of the photos or folders that I used to have.  And when I try to re-link the library, by choosing it, it won't work.

• Link posted on Facebook does not import Photo from the site

When I paste a link to a status line on Facebook, it imports the title and annotation of the page correctly. However, the Facebook does not show any photo from the page (as it does with other websites).
Is there a way to force Facebook to show a photo alongside the title etc?
I am trying to post for instance this: http://www.cykasy.cz/Atlas/Cycas_xipholepis.html
and would like to show some of the pictures on Facebook too.

It seems that the only solution is to write a piece of code into the header of the page and that will tell facebook where to pull the title, description and the photo from. The code that needs to be inserted is below.
THE PROBLEM - this solution doesn't work if you have built your site using iweb. Everyone that has iweb has responded to the solution (everywhere this is written about) has said this.
Does anyone know another work around?
The solution for anyone without iweb:
<meta name="title" content="INSERT CONTENT HERE" />
<meta name="description" content="INSERT CONTENT HERE" />
<link rel="image_src" href="INSERT LOCATION OF PHOTO WEB ADDRESS HERE" />

New to Lightroom so maybe I'm missing it but when someone likes a photo from a lightroom mobile public link how can I have a smart collection filter it? I understand how to if they add a comment but that is time consuming for them, liking a photo and filtering the result would be great. Thanks.

I reloaded iTunes 10 (64 bit) successfully, but the problem remains the same.
Any suggestions?

I looked in the folder from which I want to synch photos, but there is no such thing as an "ipod photo cache" in that folder, or sub-folders, as suggested in the link which you were nice enough to provide.
I have also tried removing photos from my iPad2 Photos App, and "iTunes has stopped working" shows up  again as soon as I click on the "Synch photos from" button.

• How do I move photos from one library to another?

I have moved my 34gig iphoto library from my MBP to an external drive. I have now created a second library on the MBP with the intention of keeping just a smaller selection of my photos in this ready to edit.
Is there an easy way of importing photos from the old library on the external drive to the new one? Do they link up in any way, or, will I need to export a selection from the old library to a new folder on the desktop and then import from there?

To move all the versions, metadata and photos from one Library to another use iPhoto Library Manager.
Exporting from one and then importing to another will not get all the metadata (Faces, for instance) nor will it get the versions.
Another way to achieve what you seem to want to do:
1. Quit iPhoto.
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the external drive.
Now you have two full copies of the Library. To choose between them: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
3. On the Internal Library, remove the pics you don't want with you all the time.
Now you have one full library on the external and another smaller sub-set on the Internal.
A couple of comments:
a. The external disk needs to be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
b: When you're removing the unwanted pics from the Internal Library you need to delete them in batches of about 100 or so. Trashing more at one time can cause problems with the database.

• Is there a way to delete photos from Photo Stream on my macbook pro? (Not from my folders, etc.) I need to empty the photo stream. Something in my photo stream has corrupted my phone and my apple specialist suggested I do this.

Is there a way to delete the photos in Photo Stream on my mackbook pro notebook?
My phone became corrupted today and, after continuing to have problems with 2 new phones, the apple specialists determined that the only possible explanation was the presence of a corrupted photo or video in photo stream; and that the only way to use my phone without it shutting down was to deactivate the photo stream on it.  It worked, but I would like to be able to have the option of using photostream again. The apple folks suggested that I delete all photos from photo stream on my computer; and then, when it is "empty", reactivate it on my phone? Is anyone familiar with this problem?

• Most efficient way to delete "removed" photos from hard disk?

Hello everyone! Glad to have this great community to come to for help. I searched for this question but came up with no hits. If it's already been discussed, I apologize and would love to be directed to the link.
My wife and I have been using LR for a long time. We're currently on version 4. Unfortunately, she's not as tech-savvy or meticulous as I am, and she has been unknowingly "Removing" photos from the LR catalogues when she really meant to delete them from the hard disk. That means we have hundreds of unwanted raw photo files floating around in our computer and no way to pick them out from the ones we want! As a very organized and space-conscious person, I can't stand the thought. So my question is, what is the most efficient way to permanently delete these unwanted photos from the hard disk
I did fine one suggestion that said to synchronize the parent folder with their respective catalogues, select all the photos in "Previous Import," and delete those, since they will be all of the photos that were previously removed from the catalogue.
This is a great suggestion, but it probably wouldn't work for all of my catalogues since my file structure is organized by date (the default setting for LR). So, two catalogues will share the same "parent folder" in the sense that they both have photos from May 2013, but if I synchronize May 2013 with one, then it will get all the duds PLUS the photos that belong in the other catalogue.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I know there's probably not an easy fix, and I'm willing to put in some time. I just want to know if there is a solution and make sure I'm working as efficiently as possible.
Thank you!
Kenneth

I have to agree with the comment about multiple catalogs referring to images that are mixed in together... and the added difficulty that may have brought here.
My suggestions (assuming you are prepared to combine the current catalogs into one)
in each catalog, put a distinctive keyword onto all the images so that you can later discriminate these images as to which particular catalog they were formerly in (just in case this is useful information later)
as John suggests, use File / "Import from Catalog" to bring all LR images together into one catalog.
then in order to separate out the image files that ARE imported to LR, from those which either never were / have been removed, I would duplicate just the imported ones, to an entirely separate and dedicated disk location. This may require the temporary use of an external drive, with enough space for everything.
to do this, highlight all the images in the whole catalog, then use File / "Export as Catalog" selecting the option "include negatives". Provide a filename and location for the catalog inside your chosen new saving location. All the image files that are imported to the catalog will be selectively copied into this same location alongside the new catalog. The same relative arrangement of subfolders will be created there, for them all to live inside, as is seen currently. But image files that do not feature in LR currently, will be left behind by this operation.
your new catalog is now functional, referring to the copied image files. Making sure you have a full backup first, you can start deleting image files from the original location, that you believe to be unwanted. You can do this safe in the knowledge that anything LR is actively relying on, has already been duplicated elsewhere. So you can be quite aggressive at this, only watching out for image files that are required for other purposes (than as master data for Lightroom) - e.g., the exported JPG files you may have made.
IMO it is a good idea to practice a full separation of image files used in your LR image library, from all other image files. This separation means you know where it is safe to manage images freely using the OS, vs where (what I think of as the LR-managed storage area) you need to bear LR's requirements constantly in mind. Better for discrete backup, too.
In due course, as required, the copied image files plus catalog can be moved bodily to another drive (for example, if they have been temporarily put on an external drive, and you want to store them on your main internal one again). This then just requires a single re-browsing of their parent folder's location, in order to correct LR's records inside this catalog, as to the image files' changed addresses.
If you don't want to combine the catalogs into one, a similar set of operations as above, can be carried out for each separate catalog you have now. This will create a separate folder structure in each case, containing just those duplicated image files. Once this has been done for all catalogs, you can start to clean up the present image files location. IMO this is very much the laborious and inflexible option, so far as future management of the total body of images is concerned... though there may still be some overriding reason for working that way.

• Unable to delete photos from iPad with Image Capture or PhoneView

I recently downloaded about 50GB of photos to my iPad. They are RAW+JPG. Some of the RAWs are from a new camera that does not have RAW support on the Mac yet.
Using Image Capture I downloaded all the photos to my Mac. They all have the green check-mark next to them indicating they have been downloaded.
After confirming that the images transferred without becoming corrupted, I went back to Image Capture and selected all, then hit the Delete button. I confirmed that I really want to delete them all permanently.
Then a little floating window appears that says "Deleting..." and it stays like that for a long time. Eventually Image Capture simply loses its connection with the Mac and simply leaves this console message:
5/22/12 10:58:38.494 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.503: ([0x0-0x91091].com.apple.PTPCamera[9744]) Exited with code: 255
Back on the iPad, I see that some of the JPEG-format photos have been deleted while the RAWs that went with them are still there. Meanwhile for many others, both the RAW & JPEG both still remain.
Any ideas what might cause this? Is it because the Mac doesn't yet have support for the RAW file and therefore doesn't recognize it as an "image" file?

• Unable to delete photos from iPhone 5 Model MD655LL/A

My wife needs to free up some space on her iPhone so she can take more photos and videos.  She has an iPhone 5 Model MD655LL/A.  In General > About the device shows a Capacity of 12.7 GB and Available 1.1 GB.  She has 9 videos and 1,488 photos on this phone. She also pays about $4 a month for iCloud storage.
I've connected this device to our Mac and to one of our PCs.  We are unable to remove the photos from this phone.  Upon selecting a photo from any collection, I can see the trash can icon on the lower right, but it is greyed out.
Now, I've read that Apple makes it impossible to delete the photos that are synced to the iCloud.  This makes sense, since the syncing process would add the photo back to your device if it's not detected in the cloud.  Our dilemma is this.  She needs additional space on her phone. She thought that the iCloud service would provide her with additional space beyond the limitations of her phone where she could store photos without using up her phone's storage space.  Based on what I briefly read, it appears that we misunderstood the iCloud storage, at least in this regard.
Here is what I need to be able to do.
1. Back up the photos from her phone to one of our devices.  Either the Mac or the PC, it makes no difference to me.
2. Then delete the photos from her phone, but retain them on the device where we backed them up.
I expected to be able to use Windows Explorer on the PC in Windows 7.  But upon connecting the phone to the PC, there is no directory to the phone that shows me the image contents.  Instead, there is a folder under "Computer" named "iCloud Photos". Selecting that shows a message where I expected to see a listing of contents on the device, which reads "iCloud Photos is not enabled" followed by a link "Open iCloud Control Panel".  Selecting that link opens the iCloud dialog, showing iCloud Storage of 182.53 GB of 200 GB available.
Selecting the checkbox next to Photos and choosing the Options button just shows a dialog that lets me choose the iCloud Photos Location on my PC.  But I don't see a list of the photos.
3.  Where is a dialog that I can use to drag-and-drop in Windows 7 from the phone to a directory using Windows Explorer?
I need detailed, step-by-step instructions for this.  Do we just need to cancel the iCloud account?  The storage doesn't do us any good if upon deleting a photo from the iCloud the syncing process will delete photos from our computers and our phone.  Do we need to configure the iCloud account differently?  Also, how can we tell if a photo is locked in the cloud, and thereby permanently affixed to her iPhone.
Thanks for helping us.  This has been very frustrating.

The "delete after Import" message will not always appear after the import.  It appears, if you are importing from a camera or card, but I do not see it, when I import from a mobile device with iCloud Photo Library enabled and into a System Photo Library, that also uses iCloud Photo Library.
See the Photos Help:  https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht6c803201
If a message asks whether you want to delete or keep the photos on your camera after they’re imported, click Delete Items to remove the photos, or click Keep Items to keep them on the camera.
Unfortunately, this Help text does not state exactly, when it will be possible to delete after import and when not.
