Linking Projects

I have published five small captivate 3 movies and linked
them by bot the last button on the page and by the project
preferences at end of project open URL or File and I have connected
to the skin.swf of the appropriate file. To no avail. The next
project will not open. Thinking that perhaps it was because
Captivate 3 publishes to a new file, I dumped all of the out put
files into one big folder. This did not work either. I am stumped
and would greatly appreciate some help.
Thank you!

I am using Captivate 3, creating linked projects to use for
training. If I publish using Flash 7, I get the following error as
it attempts to open the next project:
Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation.
The following local application on your computer or network:
D:\\TCStart.swf
is trying to communicate with the Internet-enabled location:
D:\\TCStart.htm
To let this application communicate with the Internet, click
Settings.
You must restart the application after changing the
settings.
Ok. I don't get this because MY settings are correct but
anyone accessing the project gets these.
So, I tried it using Flash 9 setting. When linking two or
more projects together, it just stops at the end of the first one
and doesn't continue.
Any suggestions?

  • Project Professional 2010 and pwa hangs when opening a linked project from PWA on Project Server 2010

When I open a linked project in Project Professional 2010 from PWA, Project Professional 2010 hangs with the "Links Between Projects ..." dialog box open.  Unable to move or close the dialog box.  Unable to move or close Project Professional
2010.  The PWA tab on internet explorere is frozen and unable to access although other tabs in IE are accessible.  End up having to reboot to close down project or force the process to end.  I suspect a hidden dialog box is the culprit maybe
the scheduling conflict dialog box but am unable to access or switch and cannot confirm that there is another dialog box.
Has anybody else experienced this problem?
    Thanks,
    Julie

I have seen it hang when trying to open a project schedule even with no external links.
Project 2013 Pro, Link to schedule is on a PWA on a Project 2007 server.
If Project 2013 is open before clicking on the link, there is a long delay and the project schedule opens up in the web tab where the link was selected. If Project 2013 is not open, it just hangs and has to be shut down via the task manager.
No idea why. I can create a link to the shared volume and that works OK. But if I actually try to open MS Project by clicking on the link to a .mpp file it never opens in MS Project.

  • TCS2: linked project FM9 & RH8, impossible to update new FM parag

In a linked project FM9 and RH8, everything works fine except the following update:
If I add a new paragraph label in the FM9 document and save it; then if I run the overall update from RH8 everything seems to work fine, but when I try to edit the styles (Paragraph with the FM_FMlabels list), the new added paragraph label has not been imported.
What is wrong in my procedure ?

You probably need to go into the RH to FM conversion settings on the project to map the new FM style to something RH understands.

  • Tracking of Masks created in linked project in Speedgrade dissapear in Premier Pro

I have a sequence in Premiere Pro which I am grading in Speedgrade.
I am using masks in SG and track them to follow the subjects face.
However if I go back to PP, the mask is there, but the tracking is gone.
No problem I thought, I just render it in SG (no my preferred option but ok).
However since this is a linked project, SG tells me to render it in PP.
    Which means I am stuck.....
The keyframes are preserved if I go to PP and then back to SG, however, PP seems to ignore it.
Am I missing something, or is should this functionality that should have been disabled in a linked project in SG like some of the other features.
    PP CC: 7.2.1 (4)
    SG CC: 7.2x34

Just checking... does your premiere project involve clips with scaling ?   Speedgrade CC currently has a bug where masks do not function properly when your premiere clips involve scaling.    I've run into all sorts of problems because of this.  Here are some related posts:

  • Error When Linking Projects Together in Captivate 4

    Hello!
I've been having some challenges linking multiple captivate projects together.  I've done some research on the forums here and have noticed that this is a pretty common issue.  But unfortunately for me, after following the advice that I've read, I'm still having problems.  There's obviously something that I must be missing, so I'll do my best to outline what I've done in as much detail as possible in hopes that someone can help me.
    Software:
    I'm using Captivate version 4.0.1. Build 1658
    Situation:
I'm creating an e-learning that it is made up of 8 separate projects:
Project A - Welcome Page (1 slide) which has a button that is linked to Project B
Project B - Home Page (1 slide) made up of 6 buttons, each one links to one of the 6 captivate projects (C-H) listed below
    Project C - Lesson 1 (41 slides)
    Project D - Lesson 2 (45 slides)
    Project E - Lesson 3 (36 slides)
    Project F - Lesson 4 (33 slides)
    Project G - Lesson 5 (29 slides)
    Project H - Lesson 6 (30 slides)
    Links:
All of the links are made through text buttons, and when each button was created, in the area where it asks "If the user clicks the button", I select the "open other project" option.  Then I browse to the .cp project that I want to launch after the user clicks the button.  Only the relative path of the project I selected is showing in the "Project" field, then I click Apply, then OK.
    Publishing:
I created a folder on my C: Drive named "MyName Captivate", and I published all of the projects to that folder.  Additionally, all of the projects are also in that folder as well.  When publishing the projects, I'm publishing them as Flash (.swf) files.  On the publishing screen, on the "Project Title" field, I left that field unchanged (it defualts to the project's name).  The "Folder" field has C:\MyName Captivate in it.  I checked "Publish Files to a Folder" and "Export HTML" under Export Options.
    Flash Security Settings:
I went to the Flash Security Settings and made sure that the "Always Allow" radio button was clicked, and then I went to the "Edit Locations" drop down box and navigated to the "C:\MyName Captivate" folder where all of my .cp projects are located and added it to the "Always Trust Files in These Locations" field.
    The Problem:
After all of the files have been published, and I test it out in my web browser, I get the following error message when I click the button to go to the linked project (in this case, when clicked, the button is supposed to take me to Project B): "Cannot find file:///C:/Users?HP%20User/AppData/Local/Temp/cp4Temp/~Cal55B/ProjectB.htm.  Make sure the path or Internet address is correct."  I am confused about where that internet path is coming from, because I made sure to place all of the project files into the "C:\MyName Captivate" folder, and the button when clicked should "open other project", which in this case is Project B.
I hope that all made sense.  If anyone can help guide me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much for your help!

    WestCoast,
I believe this is an extremely common issue. Personally, I gave up trying to link projects together like this. I also wanted to offer my users a more "perpetual" interface. I wanted the user, at any time, to be able to switch to another Captivate movie - rather than being forced to navigate through more slides to find the right button to click. So, I created a product called the Launch Pad. It works by using one web page with a menu. Clicking a menu item pulls in a seperate .SWF file into the web page.
One suggestion might be to have your buttons link to fully qualified (http://myserver/myfolder) URLs instead of "projects". Each button links to the HTML file that Captivate publishes. Full URLs with the entire URL of the HTML file seem to work better than relative URLs.

  • Linking Project files

Perhaps I'm being silly here, but when I try to link project files from within Project 2010 to create a master project and those projects are stored in SharePoint in the Projects document library I get an error message saying basically "You cannot use
an internet address here. Enter a path that points to a location on your computer or on the network" This is running in SharePoint 2010 with Project 2010, but doesn't seem to be integrating properly. We're trying to phase out file shares, so we need to get
this fixed to share out the project files to lots of PM's
    Any ideas?

    Robin
I came across your question yesterday when I tried to do exactly the same. A colleague of mine came up with a solution, here it is:
Open Windows Explorer, right-click on "Computer", select "Add a network location". When prompted for "Internet or network address", paste the URL to your SharePoint document library or folder which you copied from your browser. It should have
the format "http:\\server\site\folder" (without the "\default.aspx" part), then complete all dialogs
In Windows Explorer, right-click on the new network location. Copy the text next to "Comment", it should have the format \\server@SSL\DavWWWRoot\site\folder or similar
Open a DOS window and enter the command "subst x: (or the drive letter that you want)
    \\server@SSL@DavWWWRoot\site\folder" and hit enter
Now open your master schedule in MSP and link the subproject by selecting this new drive x:. MSP will now consider this a local drive and wont give you trouble anymore.
Let me know if it works.

  • Saving Dyanamically Linked Projects

    Hi Fellows,
MY HISTORY: I made the jump from Adobe Video Collection on a P3 PC to, last year, CS4 Production Premium and now to CS5 on an i7 Quad with 4 1GB drives.  What a hugh difference and an enormous learning curve.  My problem with a Project slowing down on the i7 with CS4 after approx 5 rapid sequential operations appears to be solved with CS5.  I imagine this was partly due to a synchronous problem as a result of switching and routing bit streams using 32 bit software on a 64 bit PC in addition to what may be a slower memory or drive component.   I find that the tutorials are excellent.
My ROBLEM: I have looked but have so far been unable to find information on how to correctly save a dynamically linked Project and open all the linked programs correctly so all the updates are saved.  I found reference to a bug in CS4 and an excellent tutorial on how to save time by not having to render all imported Projects into P.Pro CS5.  Again, I wonder how I should save say 2 Projects from AE and Encore into P.Pro using these timer saving operations with the ability to recover where I left off.  If my question has already been answered, please point me in the right direction.
QUESTION: How do I correctly save, open, and recover 3 dymanically linked Projects e.g. P.Pro, AE, and Encore in CS5?

There is only one way to save, with or without Dynamic Linking involved.
You initiate the Save command, either with a keyboard shortcut or through the menu.  There's no trick to it, nothing special because there may be DL elements in the project.  Any changes made to the base project will just show up automatically in the DL'd project.
Opening those projects is also accomplished in the normal fashion, nothing is different about it.

  • How to link projects in CP5?

    Hello,
I still cannot link projects in CP5.  I have read all of the suggestions on here, and followed the directions in CP5 help exactly.  But no luck.  I have tried the "Open URL or File" option, and the "Open another project" option.  I have tried deleting the absolute path info.  I have tried publishing projects to different folders and to the same folder.
This seems like it should be the easiest step in developing in CP5, but it is driving me crazy.  I simply want to have a main menu cptx file, with buttons that link to different projects.  And I want the projecs to have a button that links back to the main menu.  Am I missing something very obvious here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • File not found when cross-linking projects -- solved

I hadn't yet posted my question when I figured it out, so
here it is for future readers...
My projects use the "Open other project" command to bring up
the next segment and jump to topics (16 projects for the 70 minute
video). All the projects are named in upper case S2_FS.cp and
published with an upper case Project Title to create S2_FS.exe.
Never had a problem when I was making Windows executables,
but I just created a Flash version, and was getting 404s for
anything past the first segment. Turns out Captivate 2 doesn't
    completely honor case:
    - The Publish dialog's warning about links to other projects
    used all upper case names
    - It created upper case S2_FS.swf
    - Also created upper case S2_FS.htm, which linked to upper
    case S2_FS.swf
    - But inside the swf files, links were lower case s2_fs.htm
Had to dig through my server's error log to find this,
because of course testing locally on Windows still worked.

  • Correct way to start dynamic link project with PPro

I tried and failed to correctly initiate an After Effects project using dynamic link to a PPro project (this is the Production Premium CS5 package I'm talking about here). I could see and edit the PPro project in AE, but couldn't see the AE changes in PPro.
In CS4 and below, dynamic links were one way streets, so this behavior would be expected. Supposedly, in CS5 and above, dynamic links are two way streets, so I should be able to move back and forth between applications seemlessly. More or less. At least without having to render. Yes?
So... how do I actually do it? Darned if I can figure it out from endless days of reading the manuals and looking for tutorials to explain it.
What I'm wanting to do, in the end, is to do my edits in PPro, then move to AE to color grade and add motion graphics (like lower thirds, maybe some titles). Depending on the needs/desires of customers, I might have to re-edit and re-correct several times (iteratively). So I want to learn how to make interative editing/effects with PPro/AE work as Adobe seems to think it should -- a two way street.
How do I do that? What are the steps in PPro, and in AE, and in what order?

There are a three of ways you can do this.
    1. Right click on a selected clip or group of clips and select "Replace with an After Effects Composition"
AE will open up and ask you for a name for the composition. Make sure that you put the AE project in a folder that's related to your Premiere project so that it can be found easily and so that it can be archived. Make sure that you save the composition. You will then see the composition in the Project window in PPro but it will have the default Untitled Linked Composition 01 name. You can change the name if you like but it's not necessary.
Now everything you do in AE will show up immediately in PPro. Rendering of the project will take place in PPro using the sequence settings or the Media encoder settings.
    2. Go to File>Dynamic Link>New After Effects composition
If you have AE open with a current project it will add a new untitled comp to AE. You can set the comp settings to anything you like, add any footage you like, and then go back to PPro and drag the new composition to the timeline and treat it as any other footage. Once again, everything you do in AE will show up in PPro.
    3. Go to File>Dynamic Link>Import After Effects composition
You will be taken to a window that will allow you to pick your .aep file in the left side and then pick the composition in the right side of the UI.
That should get you started. As long as you have the system resources to handle running both apps this is a very efficient way to work. The biggest danger is that you'll forget to save the project, exit, and loose a bunch of work.

  • Re linking project?

I have my entire project on an external hard drive.  It started to give me problems so I bought a new drive and copied my entire project to my new drive.  How do I re link the project on my new drive in Final Cut Pro X?

Please describe in detail what you did.
If you had copied that Final Cut Events folder from one disk to the other, you wouldn't have wound up with one event instead of many. The media would have come along, if it had been copied to the events, but not if it was just referenced (i.e. the events contained only aliases to the media, stored elsewhere).
Need more details to be able to help more.

  • Premiere 2014 CC 2014 Crashing when re-linking project

    Hi,
I have a very frustrating problem with Premiere being extremely unstable on one of our systems. We have a HP z820 2x Xeon e5, 32 GB Ram, Tesla 20c and Quaddro k5000, Separate SSD Boot and SSD render preview drive.
One issue is whenever I open a particular project to re-link it crashes. I've tried clean installing premiere, deleting prefs, deleting media cache files all numerous times.
Anyone got a solution or idea whats causing the instability?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Finally figured out the problem.  Hope this helps other casual users like myself.  Originally when I started editing I unlinked the video from audio to make some audio specific edits. This was a game play shoot of the board game only and talking heads were not in the shot.  Once I finished the editing I linked the video audio tracks back together.  After I inspected the timeline thoroughly by zooming in to check every edit  I was out of sync on one of my edits and it had a red -4 on video and a plus +4 on audio right at the edge of the clips.  After unlinking the tracks again the red numbers went away and sure enough had a successful export in H.264 after at least a dozen crashes.     What's funny about this is I had a successful export with mpeg2 after continuous  h.264 and flv crashes till this fix.

  • Publishing, Captivate 4 - Trouble linking projects - Presentation tomorrow!

We are fairly new users to Captivate and are now trying to publish multiple projects we've created.  They are set to link to one another using the "open other project" option (button preference settings).
Now that they're published we're getting the .htm, .cwf, and the .js files but are still getting errors that they can't find one another.  We also tried putting them all into the same folder instead of the subfolders it creates.
Is there an easy step we're missing or any tips on what might correct this type of issue.

  • Linking projects/daisy chaining and reporting to an LMS

    Can anyone help please?
I am new to Captivate and LMS's and so far, have self-taught and read books and lots and lots of web pages for help and information - information overload!
    My problem is this:
I have a large project (146 slides) which, having read advice, I have tested by breaking into smaller projects. I have Module 1 which is the learning phase for the user, some questions included, but these do not need to report to the LMS. I then have the Test module in a second Cp project - a selection of 20 questions which are pulled from a question pool. These DO need to report to the LMS.
At the end of Module one, users can opt to either take the test now or later. The user has an option to exit the module and take the test later (close the project - expecting them to be redirected back to this page by the LMS when they open the project again!) or click a button which will open up the Test module. The button to open the Test module has been set to link to the Test Cp project.
I've tested this so far by publishing both as EXE files and running through the whole module - it all links in fine and I move from one Cp project to another without issue. However, now I am scratching my head about how to publish as Flash files in order for the reporting to work, particularly as there are 2 Cp projects.
I have looked at the Aggregator function but don't think this is the right route because it automatically adds a TOC and I don't want one (unless someone can tell me how to switch this off in Aggregator..?!)
I have also looked at using the SCORM Packager, which seems to be the route people are indicating for muliple SCO's published to an LMS.
    Here's what I have done.
Enabled Quiz Reporting for both projects and set up preferences accordingly.
Published Module 1 as a zipped SWF (all files - Manifest.XML etc created ok)
Published Test as zipped SWF - ditto above.
Run the SCORM Packager and added the 2 zipped files above to create one zipped file.
Rightly or wrongly, I have unzipped the 'new' combined project, located the HTM file for the first module and run it in Internet Explorer. Whilst this runs ok, on coming to the last screen to link to the Test, it falls over saying it can't find the file. It is looking for the HTM file in the directory where the original .Cp project is stored. There is no HTM file created here - just the original Cp file.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get them to link correctly AND be able to package them up?
I can't test this on an LMS as I don't have access to one or to the client's LMS - I will simply be providing them with the zipped file which they will FTP to their LMS.
Any help would be appreciated as deadline is looming!
    Thanks in anticipation.

Raquel, have you tried the Reload Editor for setting up the manifest? Also, you may want to give ADL's Test Suite a shot for self-testing your package in an LMS-like RunTime Environment.
Now, it could be that I'm reading this wrong but it sounds to me like, when you say "There is no HTM file created here - just the original Cp file", there should be an html file there. If your button in the first module is scripted to launch a new html file in the same window, make sure you published the second module to include an HTM file. I'm assuming you mean "swf file" when you mentione "Cp file", right?
Reload also offers the SCORM 1.2 Player for testing your course in a RunTime Environment.
Feel free to reach out if you still have issues or need assistance in testing.

  • Linked project not opening in current window

I built several projects and one links to another on the last
slide of each project. I embedded the first project into my course
window in my LMS and it plays it that window just like I want, when
it gets to the last slide it starts the next project like it
should, but in a new window, rather than in the current window. I
have specified to open the new project in current window on the
last slide of the previous project, but still opens a new window.
My LMS will not use the HTM file, so I am using the swf file
directly with the skin. Does anyone have any suggestions?
