Linking Several Project Files as one Learning Session

I have eight large Captivate files that I want to link into
one, single window, seamless learning experience. I've tried quite
a few options, but I can't get any to work. In one failed attempt,
I wanted to publish 8 flash files that were linked so they would
play in Adobe Flash player together. Here are the issues I
encountered with just this option:
Tried to link Part 1 and Part 2 together using the "Open URL
of file" option and referencing the ".swf skin" file. Part 1 plays
back great, but part 2 opens up in Internet Explorer instead of
Adobe Flash Player (very annoying).
When Part 2 opens up the .swf file in Internet Explorer, it
opens up in a new window, even though I specified "Current".
When Part 2 opens up the .swf file in Internet Explorer, I
receive an "Adobe Flash Player Security" message. The first
sentence reads "Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe
operation."
Does anybody have any input on these three problems? I
getting frustrated that there isn't an easy way to do this. Any
help anybody could give to me would be <u>greatly</u>
appreciated.
Thanks.

I can't comment on the first two issues other than to say
that Captivate-generated SWF output is intended to run in a web
browser and accessed from a web server.
If you want to run directly off the local hard drive, you
should be publishing to .EXE and it should work as expected.
If you're determined to run directly in the Flash Player,
maybe try looking into something like Jesse Warren's Captivate
Player or a commercial Flash wrapper product. Google will be your
friend in this area.
However, running directly in the Flash Player rather than a
browser will ultimately be a big problem for your users, since....
The Flash Player security warning you're seeing comes up
pretty much any time you try to run Captivate-generated SWF files
directly from a hard drive, even if the SWF files are embedded in a
web page.
You, and every one of your end users, will have to click the
Settings button on the warning popup and manually mark the file
folder location as "Safe" before the content can run.
For this reason, the recommended approach is either to
publish to .EXE format for local access, which avoids the message,
or publish to HTM/SWF and host the files on a web server, where the
local Flash Player security settings do not apply.

  • Can I link multiple project files together?

    I'd like to link multiple project files together so that they will play one after another. Can you do that in Captivate?

    Hey Leslie,
    Yes, you can create several projects in Captivate and publish them as Flash (SWF) format. There is an aggregator project in Captivate where in you can combine all these published projects (SWF) into a single output.
    Do you have any other requirement as well?

    Reader doesn't have that ability. You would need Acrobat.

    As TSN has indicated we have no idea what program you are using, other than you posted in the Acrobat forum. In Acrobat you go to File > Create > Combine (varies with version of Acrobat). You can also open one and then use the pages>Insert to add the others.

  • Would it be possible to have 2 shared resources, one local containing all common topics and pictures for several projects, and another one remote containing all topics and pictures for collaboration purposes

    Hi,
    I was wondering, now that I discovered the advantages of Resource Manger, if it would be possible to have 2 shared resources, one local with common topics and pictures for several projects, and another one, remote, containing the whole projects, i.e. topics and pictures, for collaboration purposes.
    The local one I intend to use it for my purposes to have common items (topics & pictures) updated in all projects where they appear, and the remote one I intend to use it together with my remote colleagues that might want to do changes in the topics.
    This would mean that the common topics and pictures would be present in both resources, the local one as well as the remote one.
    Thank you.

    Thank you for your fast answer Rick.
    I was merely wondering if it would be possible w/o having to use other products outside RoboHelp.
    We are already using svn for a lot of other purposes and we are using that for the RoboHelp projects as well, however I was wondering if it would not be possible to have RoboHelp take care of the RoboHelp projects, and with svn to take care of the other things in the company.
    Eventually, if it would be possible, I would think to sync all the local projects with the remote projects, then sync the local project with the local shared resources, and at the end sync the rest of the projects with the local shared resources.

  • Update several project files based in one project

    I have several projects, one for each application in the same
    business area.
    Some of these manuals share information. I'd like to have a
    central project where I have information shared in all (or some)
    projects, and automatically update it in all other projects. Is
    this possible?
    It's similar to the concept of having a master project - but
    instead of having this project updated considering all others, I'd
    like to have all projects updated considering the alteration in a
    central project.

    Hi garcia3000 and welcome to the RH community.
    There is no way to automatically update the other projects
    with the amended central project. If you use merged projects you
    could merge the central project into the other project's TOC.
    However this stores a local copy of the central project in the
    project's baggage folder. If the central project is amended, you'll
    have to re-add the amended CHM to the baggage files folder.

  • How can I link more HTML files to one menubuilder file

    Hi,
    I have the following problem which hopefully one of you can
    help me solve.
    With menubuilder I just made a menu to run on a stand alone
    CD. This menu contains links to 5 individual training modules that
    are movies in HTML format.
    After some searching in this forum I found out that I should
    use the save file with project option to keep the links when moving
    the entire project to a separate CD.
    No my problem. To make this CD work I need to copy all files
    into the main directory. But each individual training modules has,
    except from the title, the same under laying files. Copying them to
    one main directory overwrite all and leaves me with one module that
    is started from 5 different links.
    Hopefully I explained my problem clearly and is there
    somebody that can help me with this.
    Kind regards
    Erik

    Hi Erik
    For starters, Captivate does not create movies in HTML
    format. It always creates them in .SWF format. Are you possibly
    noticing the fact you can create an additional HTML page used to
    display your .SWF movie and assuming the movie is in HTML format?
    Is this Captivate 1 or Captivate 2? I ask because you are
    talking about "the same underlying files".
    One suggestion I would make is to totally forego MenuBuilder
    in favor of Jesse Warden's Captivate Player.

  • Create multiple project files or one?

    I am working on a feature length film which has 48 sequences with subclips and rough cuts created in Prelude. Now I want to start bringing this footage into Premiere for editing, but I am wondering is there benefits or drawbacks to creating a Premiere project for each sequence then merging them all together in one master project file after finished working on each sequence?
    I'm trying to determine which way would be the easiest to keep things organized and not so overwhelming. Has anyone done this before?

    I never worked on a long project...but for a short test of cs3 , using dailies as source material, I came up with a process that worked pretty good for me.. and it might help you a little bit...dont know.
    it's kinda complicated.
    this example is one part of a scene...well, 2 scenes really, but I didn't have the dailies for all the material shot... so it's hard to explain... mostly I had all of the first part of the stuff you see here and then only part of the rooftop stuff...
    The rooftop stuff I made b&w with a overlay to pretend it was a cheap video cop camera..and used static to make cuts cause I saw crew, other cameras, etc... and had to cut.
    was basically 3 alexa on process trailer and 4 alexa on roof.
    This is what I did for scenes ( basically for the beginning of working on the overall material and then whittling it down to usable stuff )
    I dont use source monitor at all.. in out points.. I put everything in the primary timeline levels..and just cut out the slates and dumb stuff nobody would ever use...cut / delete .
    Then I start scrubbing through and pick out what I think will tell the story and move it UP from the original levels. That gives me a quick easy way to see what was " used" as opposed to what the original stuff ( bulk ) is.
    I don't rename the files or bins as I do that... I create a 'new' sequence and move all the raised stuff into THAT sequence ...and butt it together ...which is now becoming a rough cut...the new sequence ( not what you see here above which is the first bulk of what I got to work with ).  But I dont do that new sequence on a single vid layer cause I do my own fades and stuff on multiple layers and want that option... so I butt them together on several vid levels ( like 3 or whatever in this case )....
    I want the option of overlaying stuff and doing my own cross dissolves at my own 'pace' if need be....not the auto stuff and then the playing with corrections and extra frames etc ...
    As I scrub through the 1st roughcut I notice " Oh, I just cut from one person talking to another person talking, but the background was moving in one take, and not in the next "... which looks stupid.. so I have to go BACK to the original stuff and find a portion of a camera angle and take ...that gives me a moving background ....
    This starts to get really retarded...cause now you're making cuts you don't really WANT to make, but HAVE to make....
    Since I was using dailies and you're using prelude I guess there's a big difference. But I might use a part of one take and part of another take of the same scene and the same "coverage" if with multiple cameras ... so I don't think I would like splitting stuff up onto takes that are good or bad ...unless obviously the whole thing is bad from the get go... like someone fell down or their wig flew off their head or something...

  • Joining several swf files into one swf file

    hello everybody
    i've been dealing this issue for too long and decided to ask for  help - how can I unite 15 swf files which placed in one folder to a one swf file???
    i tried all kindes of merging softwares like "Join (Merge, Combine) Multiple SWF Files Into One Software" and "WinMerge" without success and tried to convert swf to flv (cause i found other merging software for flv files) but again...
    I have CS5 so if i'll have to open Flash for this i will, though i'm trying to avoid that and even then i'm gonna need full instructions.
    All i need is this simple thing so i'll appreciate very much any help
    Thanks & Good Day
    Keren

    Hi Ned
    Again - thank you very much.
    I've got the source files and i'm on the run now.. kind of..
    I did as you recomצended and used a code from one of the AS3 UILoader tutorials , and it seems to work:
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.events.ProgressEvent;
    import fl.containers.UILoader;
    var myLoad1 = "fastflipPage.swf";
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(myLoad1);
    loader.scaleContent = false;
    loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
    loader.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, progressHandler);
    loader.load(request);
    loader.load(request);
    function progressHandler (event:ProgressEvent):void
    status_txt.text = "Percentage Loaded" +
    Math.round(event.target.percentLoaded);
    function completeHandler (event:Event):void
    status_txt.text = "Loaded Done";
    So... i'm tring to find some answers to my next step : in the code above im loading only one file and i need to load 30 files so they could play one after another. i noticed that i can create many uiloader instances and load several external SWFs in the same scene without writing a script to each one of them... is that right? and if so, how can i do that???
    I'm full of hope to figure this task, meantime will look for more answers
    Thanks in advance
    Keren

  • Unable to open project file - from one 6.0.2 to another 6.0.3.

    Hi
    We're at a time-critical stage of finishing our movie, and we need to get the color-corrected sequence from the post-house to our studio so we can make some picture changes and get it back to them. They can open the project file just fine (it was created in 6.0.2, but they since updated their system to 6.0.3), and we have just updated to 6.0.3 also. Quicktime is 7.4.5 (which matches their version). However, they've FTP'd it to us, and we cannot open it here. FCP gives the error "Unable to open project file". It's not the "older version" message which I've seen before, it just ... fails to open it. Almost as if the file were corrupt. However, the post house can re-download the file from FTP and open it there, so this confuses me. I've also tried the file on a FCP 6.0 system (which I can't update because it's an Avid system locked to a certain version of Quicktime) and the same error message.
    Would anyone be willing to test the file and see if they can, at least, open it?
    Many thanks.
    Matt

    Have them zip the file... Project files via email often don't open if they aren't zipped..

  • How to assemble several PDF files into one PDF file

    Hi there,
    I have several PDF documents. How can I combine all these PDF documents in one unique PDF file?
    Thank you

    Yeah Preview is very limited indeed.
    It even gives you drag and drop capability, rotate individual pages and sequential numbering etc.
    Preview can do all of that.

  • Merging Several Csv Files in one Csv file

    Hi,
    I have many csv file which do have same structure. I download those data from an external source like Yahoo bu it does not have headers. They jave just 6 columns of data Would you know how I can aggregate them in one file while including a column for each
    set of imported csv file having its own file name, such as YHOO or WMT just next to the 6th column?
    So, I have 2 questions:
    If ı can add them all in a file and if ı can add the seventh column (the name of each csv file to identify the stock in that combined file.)
    Thank you so much for your support

    Hi Everybody,
    Thanks for the help. I have run the first code below:
    $files  = "d:\temp\file1.csv","d:\temp\file2.csv"
    $output = "d:\temp\output.csv"
    foreach ($file in $files) {
     $contents = get-content $file
     foreach ($content in $contents) {
      $filename = split-path $file -leaf # get filename
      $a = $filename + ";" + $content | out-file $output -append
    However, my goal  is to list companies in a tabular fashion (like file 1 should be listed in the first 6 columns of the file and second file is from 7-12 and third file 13-18 and so on).
    So my goal is not to append all files below each other but next to each other.
    Would you help me regarding that?
    Kind Regards,

  • Embedding several PDF files into one using bookmarks

    Hello, everyone.
    My concern is about embedding some PDF files wherein there are bookmarks for each file to navigate through their chapters, sections, etc. using any PDF Viewer.
    I want to embed these PDF files into an overall document which creates bookmarks to navigate through the embedded PDF files preserving the internal bookmarks of every PDF file.
    Minimal bookmarks example:
    File A
    File B
    Chapter 1
    Section 1Figure of file A
    Section 2
    Prologue
    Chapter 1
    Section 1Figure of file B
    Section 2
    Prologue
    Overall document
    File A
    Chapter 1
    Section 1Figure of file A
    Section 2
    Prologue
    File B
    Chapter 1
    Section 1Figure of file B
    Section 2
    Prologue
    Which I am almost sure it can be done with Adobe® Acrobat but I do not know how to do it and I still do not manage to get it by myself. I would not prefer to do it by joining PDF files without bookmarks and recreate them because I have files with more than one hundred sections and chapters, it would be really troublesome besides I have not enough time to devote on it.
    Thank you in advance to everyone.

    Use Acrobat's Combine files feature (available in Acrobat XI Standard and Pro).
    Be well...
