Linking Swf to URL

Please oh please help me. I have created a swf which is basically to showcase products and its a box with products that i have turned into buttons so that when someone hovers on it, it will display the logo. I have put it into a timeline and have 5 revolutions of different images (buttons) being displayed.  I want to load this into dreaweaver and make it so that when clicked it will load in a seperate URL. I have read many forums which say to make a button over the top of this and add the coding
button_btn.onRelease=function() {
getURL("http://addsitehere.com","_self")
However this covers the ability to hover over the initial buttons, it keeps giving me errors and wont work and I also want it to link inside the site that I'm putting it into (ie i want it to go to link to the file index.html inside the products folder (Products/index.html).
I have tried putting it into dreamweaver and putting it into a div which links to the website (a href="Products/index.html") however it only workd in Safari an not Firefox and Internet Explorer.
I have been fiddling with this for ages and desperately need help. Thank you in advance!!!I would REALLY appreciate the help!

Thank you for your quick reply!!!
I have managed to get my swf file to work and also when i publish it as a html, but would you have any idea why it wont work when i put it into dreamweaver and then view it though different browsers? I tried changing the URL a few times, however it doesn't even take you t a wrong link. The buttons still work in up, hover and down states, however the on Release doesnt' work at all (btw I put the on Release on all the buttons in actionscript)
Thank you so much for your help!

  • Linking SWF to SWF

    Hey all,
    so i've just finished creating a flash advertisment for a
    college project, although i originally thought i would be linking
    file url's in order for the buttons within each swf to link to one
    another. however now i'm facing problems what i wish to do is link
    swf files to one another so they will open in the same window or
    "_self" e.g. "index.swf" links to "gallery.swf" through the
    gallery.mc or btn. can anyone help me out here. many thank:)

    (that's assuming that statement is on the main timeline of
    the current swf. otherwise, use
    _level0.loadMovie("gallery.swf");

  • Image with a Link to an URL

    Hi,
    I have an easy question. I would like to have a little question mark-image on my view. And this image has an link to an url. So I would like to push this image, and a new browser-window opens.
    I only found the Layout-element "LinkToUrl". But with this element I don't have an image.
    How does it works in Webdynpro? In HTML it is very easy...

    Hi,
    Change the layout to grid type and then scroll down. You will find "layout[GridLayout]" set col count here to the number equal to total number of buttons + 2.
    Then click on link and in the properties scroll down and set col span = 2.
    and hAlign = right.
    this will do the required.
    and the flowdata is coming in your container's properties because this container is also present in one of the transparent container which is having layout as flow layout.
    Regards,
    Sarbjeet.

  • APEX... Link to open URL in a new window

    I have one of my interactive reports' column linked to a URL... so when my user click on the link it opens an associated webpage...
    How can I make it to open in a new window...
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I am trying to open my page as a popup without refreshing the parent window.
    Here is what i have done
    1. created a navigation bar entry for help
    2. pointed the entry to a page in the application
    3. opening the page as a popup with the following code in it.
    javascript:window.open('&WORKSPACE_IMAGES.APEX_Reporting_User_Guide.pdf#&P0_PAGE_NAME.','popup1');
    my help page opens as a popup, but also refreshes the parent window with a blank screen.
    i also tried a few other options
    javascript:window.open('&WORKSPACE_IMAGES.APEX_Reporting_User_Guide.pdf#&P0_PAGE_NAME.','popup1');void(0);
    javascript:window.open('&WORKSPACE_IMAGES.APEX_Reporting_User_Guide.pdf#&P0_PAGE_NAME.','popup1');return false;

    Am I going wrong somewhere?

  • Dispute Case - Linked Objects- Various- URL

    Hello,
    We have a requirement to create a Dispute Case through a custom interface program. We have been doing this using BAPI_DISPUTE_CREATE.
    Now, I need to programmatically link a URL to Dispute Case -> Linked Objects->Various->URL. An custom element type for u2018URLu2019 was configured in the Registry for this in our SAP system.
    This is usually achieved programatically using the tables parameter OBJECTS of the BAPI. We have to pass the OBJ TYPE & KEY to this parameter.
    Since configuration does not allow the BOR_TYPE to be defined on tab u2018Connection Parametersu2019 of the Element Type URL in the Registry, what OBJTYPE and KEY works for this?
    Thanks,
    Smitha/Aneel

    Hello Andy,
    I have a question. We're also trying to use BAPI_DISPUTE_CREATE in order to create dispute cases, but the function needs a unique GUID number in order to create the dispute case. How did you manage to maintain this guid number?
    Because of this problem, we started using the function UDM_DC_CREATE, which generates a GUID itself, if you do not maintain one.
    Sorry for the inconveince, the problem was because of a wrong attribute, I can create a dispute case with this function without maintaining the guid id.

  • Link to local url

    I want to link to a url that will be local on the CD. I am
    using toToNetPage "myUrl", "_new"
    but when clicked for the first time if the browser is not
    already running I get a blank untitled page or tab. Click it again
    and I get the page OK but this will likely be confusing for users.
    Anyone come across this or have fix
    Thanks

    I have seen that before, and I have never found an adequate
    solution.
    Instead, I have begun using BuddyAPI for this function. You
    can use the
    command:
    baOpenURL(myURL,"normal")
    And it works much better and more consistently. You can use
    up to 2
    functions of BuddyAPI for free. You can download it from

  • Capturing a dynamic swf with url parameters?

    Hi,
    I'm wondering if it's possible for users to capture an swf
    with URL variables?
    for example ->
    www.somesite.com/foo.swf?param1="value"&param2=value"
    normal swf rippers will catch only the base "naked" swf, but
    is there a way to fully capture the whole flash object after it has
    rendered the parameters?
    (for example, if it's an ad, the full ad with all the
    elements will be captured)
    this can help me to quickly generate demo stand-alone
    instances for some apps i'm building, instead of compiling them
    separately

    oops...sorry for double posting..

  • AS in frame 1 of a linked swf executes, sometimes-

    I’m using the loader class to load an external swf and attach it to an empty movie clip, the final step follows:
    function loadComplete(e:Event):void {
         mc_launch.addChild(gLoader);
         MovieClip(gLoader.content).gotoAndPlay("start");
    When navigating away from the movie clip, it’s dumped as follows:
    MovieClip(gLoader.content).closeAllStreams();
    gLoader.unload();
    The linked swf has two important frames in the beginning. The first frame is labeled “hold” and has the following:
    var gSC:SoundChannel = new SoundChannel();
    var gSCBusy:Boolean = false;
    var gSlideIndex:Number = 0;
    var gAudioPosition:Number = 0;
    var gPlayList:Array = ["start","slide01","slide02"]
    var gAudioList:Array = ["intro.mp3","",""]
    var gRunMode:String = Capabilities.playerType;
    stop();
    The fifth frame is labled “start” and the singing and dancing begins from there.
    The stop(); function in the first frame is used to prevent the loading swf from executing before its 100% downloaded (I had some early trouble where the music would start before the screen assets were in place).
    My problem: This works perfectly the first time the linked swf is downloaded and attached, however, if you navigate away and then back I get the error "gSlideIndex NAN" which indicates to me that the first frame in the linked swf is not executed on subsequent attachments, the playhead jumps straight to “start” and my globals are  never declared. Why would a linked swf execute frame 1 the first time it’s attached to mc_launch but not the second?

    Update: Still not working, but some interesting behavior. I put the following two traces into frame 1 of the loaded swf:
    trace("check point 1 " +this+" "+gSlideIndex);
    var gSC:SoundChannel = new SoundChannel();
    var gSCBusy:Boolean = false;
    var gSlideIndex:Number = 0;
    var gAudioPosition:Number = 0;
    var gPlayList:Array = ["start","slide01","slide02"]
    var gAudioList:Array = ["U2.mp3","",""]
    var gRunMode:String = Capabilities.playerType;
    trace("check point 2 " +this+" "+gSlideIndex);
    stop();
    On first play:
    Check point 1 [movieclip object] NAN
    Check point 2 [movieclip object] 0
    On second play:
    Nothing, the traces are skipped and gSlideIndex throws a NAN error when used in frame 10. I think it’s fairly clear frame 1 is not executing scripts on second play.
    I have my doubts about this construct in the main timeline:
    mc_launch.addChild(gLoader);
    MovieClip(gLoader.content).gotoAndPlay("start");
    What guarantee do I have that the loaded content has had time to execute frame 1 scripts before the next line in the main timeline bumps the play head to the start frame (frame 10)? … apparently none.
    So here’s my noobish attempt at a work around. I divided the beginning of the loaded swf into three stages with frame labels mcInit, mcReady, and mcStart. mcInit initializes my globals and some other house keeping with NO stop(); … mcReady is 5 frames later with nothing but a stop(); mcStart is where the real media begins.
    The main timeline attachement now looks like this:
    var gMCReadyHold:Timer = new Timer(500,0);
    mc_launch.addChild(gLoader);
    MovieClip(gLoader.content).gotoAndPlay("mcInit");
    gMCReadyHold.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER,onStartMC);
    gMCReadyHold.start();
    function onStartMC(event:TimerEvent):void {
         var myFrame:String = MovieClip(gLoader.content).currentLabel;
         trace(myFrame);
         if (myFrame == "mcReady") {
              gMCReadyHold.removeEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER,onStartMC);
              MovieClip(gLoader.content).gotoAndPlay("mcStart");
    The idea is, have the main timeline explicitly force the loaded content to play frame 1 (mcInit), then check at 1/2 second intervals until the loaded content reports it’s reached the mcReady frame. Once the mcReady frame is reached, remove the timer and bump the play head in the loaded content to mcStart.
    Problem 1: MovieClip(gLoader.content).gotoAndPlay("mcInit"); always throws a frame not found error (I’ve quadruple checked for silly spelling errors). OK, so maybe the loaded content hasn’t had time to establish the frame labels, I comment out that line and it plays fine the first time but on second play:
    Problem 2: On second play the traces show the loaded content has reached mcReady but the traces on frame 1 are still not executing on second pass. This has got me really puzzled, I would think loading, attaching, and playing external an swf would be fairly routine and shouldn’t be this hard to control.
    BTW: thanks for reading all of this.

  • Trying to add a lightbox slideshow caption link to a url hosed my site.

    In the lightbox slideshow caption I tried to add an html link to the url of the image and now the all the slide show are hosed. It didn't link from the caption text but was embedded into the sllde show so that all the thumbnails linked to the same url.I even created a new slideshow from scratch and it still linked to the url. Do I have to rebuild the whole site? How and where do look to find the hyperlink to remove it?

    Please try to select the caption and remove the link from hyperlink dropdown in top bar menu in Muse.
    If this is not the case , post screenshots from design view.

  • Link to external URL from online swf

    Is there any way to link to an external URL from your flash
    site without having the flashplayer prompt you to change your
    settings and allow access to that page? (this only applies to swfs
    viewed through a browser)
    the only way around this i've found isn't very useful - you
    have to put a small xml file on the host server where the page you
    want to link to is located. i seriously doubt every site you want
    to link to will allow you to put an xml file on their host server
    just so you can link to their page. the code in the xml file just
    tells flashplayer that the site you are trying to access is safe.
    it's called crossdomain.xml
    anyone have an answer?
    thanks!

    no it doesn't. getURL() causes no security issues unless you
    try to open the html locally and (try to) access something on the
    internet.
    unless your "flash site" is your local computer there is no
    security issue. if your local computer is an internet server, you
    just need to set the security settings for your local file and give
    it permission to access the internet zone.

  • No FLV video in a linked SWF?

    I’ve got an FLV video linked to an external SWF (a substage) that is itself linked to another SWF (the main stage) The FLV plays fine if I publish and run the substage independently but when the substage is loaded into the main stage at runtime I lose the video, all the other screen elements from the substage work fine. I thought it might be a path issue so I hardcoded a fully qualified URL as the video source with the same results; works independently, fails when loaded into the main stage at run time. Anyone know what’s going on? Thanks.
    Flash CS5/AS3 using the video player component.

    The FLV is linked to tutorial.swf via the standard video playback component. The video and tutorial swf are in the same directory, optimally the video should be linked with a relative path but a fully qualified URL is an option.
    Tutorial.swf is loaded at runtime into the main swf using a standard loader class script. The main swf is in the parent directory of the tutorial & video directory (ie: it’s up one level).
    Tutorial.swf loads properly into the main swf and plays audio & animations, the only thing it doesn’t show is the video, no error is thrown.
    I’ve just discovered that I haven’t really tested the fully qualified URL option, my server didn’t have flv set as a valid mime type. If that works I’ll take it and move on, but I’d much rather a simple relative link.
    flv -(video playback component)-> tutorial.swf -(loader class script)-> main.swf
