Linking Text to Objects Between Sheets

I'm a Numbers newbie, and am starting a home inventory project. I would like to make text inventory entries in the first sheet and be able to link the text cell (or row, for that matter) to a picture of the item in subsequent sheets. I used to do this type of thing all the time in Excel, but I can't seem to come up with a way to do it in Numbers. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your response, Thomas. Attached is an Indesign file that helps to illustrate the problem. I've created a couple of hyperlinks for [III.1] and [III.2] and can use Go to Source and Go to Destination in the Hyperlinks panel to see that they work. Ideally, all bracketed references should be sources that jump to the corresponding unbracketed references (at the end of the document) as destinations. It would also be nice if one could then jump back, where a complication arises from the fact that there may be several [III.1] references going to the single III.1 destination. (If only there were a handy Back button in the Adobe reader.)
Since the entire document has hundreds of sources to link to hundreds of destinations (and back, if possible), it's an obvious job for scripting, but just as obviously a rather big task for an inexperienced person who got the question dropped in his lap only last week.
I appreciate any guidance you can give me.

Linking MIME Repository object(Excel sheet) to WAD

Hi,
I have a requirement to set an hyperlink in the existing report. If we clicks on the hyperlink it should open an excel file which contains flat file data. Flat file is placed in application server/Mime repository.
I have a solution in mind which is not accepted by the client manager. Designed a new data flow for the flat file data and created a query. Linked this new query to the Hyperlink in WAD, then it works.
Kindly provide alternative solutions to achieve the above requirement.

Hi,
To achieve the requirement, we need to keep the excel file in KM repository and provide the link in script web item.
The sample command code is:
   function executeJS_OPEN_URL_R( currentState, defaultCommandSequence )
     var commandSequence = new sapbi_CommandSequence();
     var commandOPEN_URL = new sapbi_Command( "OPEN_URL" );
     commandSequence.addCommand( commandOPEN_URL );

("/irj/go/km//XXXfilename") - this is the file path which we saved our excel in KM repository. Portal people will place the file in KM repository.

The linked text boxes are very important to my work flow. Not being able to flow text between pages has cost me a lot of valuable time in producing my newsletter. Any ideas?

In Pages 09 I was able to flow text between text boxes on the same page and to different pages but that seems to have gone away. This is one of the most useful items in Pages that I use. Now it seems to have gone away and I could find no replacement in doing my last newsletter, (which took at least 3 times as long to produce.) I am very disappointed in Pages 13 so far and look for some bright side to this software to change my opinion.

Apple has promised to bring back *some* features "within six montha." We're 4 months into the clock. They have brought back a couple of features (ability to cutomize the toolbar, for instance, and vertical ruler). But they still have a long way to go and there is no certainty that linked text boxes will be restroed. It wasn't cited in their original list of examples of what would be brought back. (Nor was mail merge, bookmarks, Applescript support, or many other items.)

CS4 Linking Text Boxes Together in Anchored Objects?

Hi. Using InDesign CS4 I have a Anchored Object that I would like to link part of it to the next one in the text frame. Example: I have grouped together a text box, a box with a placed UPC from Illustrator and another text box stacked on top of each other, all lined up. I group this and place it in a text box so I can set these at different places along a 29" document. When I have overset text, in the top box for example, I see the + sign but can't grab it to try to link the text to the next text box in the Anchored or grouped object. All I can do it change the size of the box - even when holding down the command key on the Mac with the text too enabled. I am setting it up this way so all three boxes stay together when positioning on pages. I have multiple rows of these so it makes it easier to modify. If I take the grouped set out of the text box so it's by itself I can grab the overset text. I am trying to link text boxes so it's easier and faster to flow in text from another program. Thanks.

OK, I will try to get the whole page later. I want to keep what you see in the screen shot - one of the grouped objects - together as it goes across the page. So the 9232554 text and all bellow that would stay grouped together when I tab it over to line up to a certain spot on the page. This is placed in a text box that runs horizonal on the page, about 28" across. I also wanted to link the 9232554 box to the 9232729 box which is just a duplicate of the group of text and UPC code before it. But from what you say, and what I tried to do, I can't. Even when all the anchored object groups are in the same long text thread. I tried not grouping each section - the UPC code sandwiched by the text boxes, but could not place them in the long text box when not grouped togther.
I wanted to flow in the text to all 14 of these grouped or anchored objects, say all top boxes, in one 'paste' instead of doing each one at a time but keeping the 3 elements you see togther at all times.

The correct term in Pages is Text Boxes, and true linking is not implemented in v5.2. You can Unite, Intersect, Subtract, and Exclude multiple Text Boxes via the Arrange panel. These attributes only appear when two or more Text Boxes are selected. Also, on the Arrange menu, you will need Object Placement set to Move with Text, and the Text Wrap set to None for more accurate positioning.
In the following example, there was initially a Text Box with overflowing text that was duplicated. With both Text Boxes selected and aligned, I could then use the Unite feature from the Arrange panel. This allowed the text to flow into the second box. Selecting text in one box and dragging upwards continues the text selection between both boxes. Hoefler italic applied in one box is applied to both. Appropriately placed, another trip to the Arrange panel to enable Text Wrap around and text fit adjustments.

Linking two ODS objects using a multiprovider

Hello Gurus,
I need to link two ODS objects and both are having 3 common characteristics and the relationship between the two objects are one to many.
My questions would be....
1)When the relationship is one to many can I set it up in the multiprovider to sum it up and show in the report?
2)I have 5 other charaterstics that I need to report(Slice and dice) on, but these are not common ones to both ODS objects. Is it possible for the user to get the report based on these charaterstics also? Or do I need to make sure that these 5 also exist in both DOS objects?

Thank you very much for your reply. But I have few concerns.
1)One to many relationship will not have any effect on the data linking since the multiprovider clubs the key figures on common characteristics. I tried this on the system and it worked.
2)The problem would be not having similar characteristics on both infoproviders. So if I want to report on the chars individually it will have a problem( Will come as non assigned values)
But the documentation says the multiprovider supports Homogenous and Heterogeneous cases. Please refer the following link.

I am not sure what I can do now....whether to get all the characteristics in both infoproviders by enhancing the them. Or is there another way?
And lastly the scenario I am looking at is billing and cost of goods. So I might find records in cost of goods which may not have corresponding records in billing.(There can be goods in stock which need to be billed)The problem would be the way multiprovider link records(union) so it will have all the records from both sides even if they do not correspond to each other.

Link text boxes and duplicate contents?

I'm working on a template for business cards in CS4 and was wondering if it was possible to link text boxes together in a way so that when information is entered/changed in one it would do the same in all the others. There are 8 business cards on one sheet. If I could link the text boxes containing the Name/Position and change the information on the top left card it would then automatically change on the other 7 cards. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Export it as an InCopy story and then place that multiple times.

How can I share autocomplete lists between sheets and/or files?

I'm drafting up a P&L spreadsheet in which I keep lists of categories, vendors, etc. I'd like to keep separate sheets for each month; the problem is that once I start a new sheet, Numbers seems to "forget" the vendor names, and I have to reenter the entire name again instead of the first three letters or so... I think for obvious reasons I don't want to put a whole year of order records on a single sheet ;-)
Is there a way to preserve or export lists of field values so that they can be shared between sheets (or even files?)

Appreciate the answer Wayne, although it wasn't the one I wanted to read... I had already embedded a hidden list in *every* table in each sheet; needless to say it didn't improve the performance one bit.
Turns out that the lists aren't shared between tables either (same heading, same column) that I used to create expandable categories. Would be a nice feature to recognize a column heading and propagate the autocomplete lists, and maybe even be able to link these across tables, sheets *and* files!
Probably too late for iWork '12 ('13, '14?) , but I filed an enhancement request to be able to refer to "file foo, sheet C, table 3" column contents.

Link with SAP objects documents already stored in Docuemntum

Hi all,
I am working in the configuration of archivelink between SAP RE-FX and Documentum with Object Type BUS1503.
I am able to store documents from SAPGUI in Documentum but now I would like to do the other way around. It means, documents already stored in Documentum I want to link them to this object Type to been able to display them from SAP-GUI. Where can I find documentation about this? I ahve been checking but I can not find anything.
I have no access to Documentum itself so it is quite difficult for me to check this other way around.

Chekc whether object links available in documentum or not? I am quite doubtful about the feathure.
If not then access from SAP GUI and link to this object as you don't have access to documentum.

Can we link two business objects in workflow?My problem is that I have to take a standard BO for triggering my z workflow .But later in one step I am using BO which is Z as I am calling a standard Sap transaction in one of the method inside Zobject.

Hi Anshu,
You can use the standard BO as the BO for your workflow and trigeger the workflow from its event. To pass values from the standard BO to the custom BO used in the activity step, you need to do proper binding between the std and custom BO in the activity step.
Do proper binding between event -> workflow -> task container.

Yes I'd agree with you and also i faced these situations to check what objects i need to export from Dev to Quality ( to analyze what are already correct or what have to be imported again)
Generally Quality & Prod are in sync.
Also will be waiting along with you if anyone comments on any such tool.

what do you mean with "flip between sheets"? You have sheets in your bed but not in Safari. Safari uses Tabs. And you don't "flip" them, you just click on them. If you right-click any link in Safari you can select to open the link in a new tab or in a new Window (which will completely clutter the screen within a few minutes).

Aligment of text & report objects on report

hi,
I have report that fits into 4 pages due to large lenth of report. The report object thats on the report are aligned well for first page but as i go to page downwards i.e 2,3,4 the Text and report object that i have inserted get distorted
and are not aligned in same way as on 1st page. Is there a setting for each individual page on the report ? or what setting should i check for the same?

There isn't any easy or elegant way in Crystal Reports to generate records dynamically but here are 2 suggestions;
1) Concatenate the fields you want to display with a carraige return separator (Chr(13)) and assign this value to a variable. Use the replicatestring function along with the database field that outputs the number of copies needed.
For instance
stringvar d:= + chr(13) + + chr(13) + + chr(13)
replicatestring(d, {field that outputs number of copies})
Set this formula to can grow and it will repeat the appropriate number of times.
2) Create a command object similar to the following;
select top (10) -999 as linker from orders
This will generate 10 dummy records.
Link this command object to your table with a Not Equal join.
This will cause each record from your table to repeat 10 times.
Set up a counter formula and suppress the details section when the counter is greater than the number of copies needed field
