Linking to a Portable DVD

Is there any way to link my macbook pro to a portable dvd player. Would like to play one movie on my macbook and have it show on both screens. Thanks.

You would need the video adapter for you MBP. (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/4.RSLID?mco=4 BB568D3&nplm=M9267G%2FA) And your DVD player would need to have a video in. As long as it meets those requirements I see no problem with it. Sound may be an issue however. When you plug in a cable to the audio output on the MBP the speakers will not out put sound.

  • Portable DVD player with Iphone support?

Im looking for a portable DVD player that I could also plug in my Iphone and watch the movies in the DVD screen. Anyone know of any brands out there that can do that?

Well there is a Video "Out" cable you can buy for the iPhone (component or composite). With that cable you can do video out to a screen with matching (component or composit hookups depending what you bought) to it's Video/Audio "In"
Here is a link to the component cable

  • Problem with connecting my Ipod Classic 80 gb to a Phillips Portable DVD

I just purchased a Phillips Portable DVD player that I can insert my ipod into.
It plays music, but everytime I go to play a movie it keeps coming up withTV OUT ENABLED, PLEASE CONNECT VIDEO ACCESSORY. I have set all the proper settings
    TV OUT - ON
    TV SIGNAL - NTSC
    TV SCREEN - STANDARD
When I click on the source button it plays the sound but no picture appears on the screen.
    Any idea what is happening.
I took the Phillips DVD player back to the store and their technician plugged in his older ipod and it works.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a new enough iPod, they are now requiring an apple adapter that has the apple computer chip in it to work. I did a general search on the web and came up with better info than here.

  • Can you connect 5th generation i-pod to portable dvd player

I have recently purchased an Amstrad portable dvd player and was wondering if it is possible to view my saved movies from my i-pod video onto my portable dvd player. Was told by local shop it wasn't as you only had option of audio and not video. The portable dvd player came supplied with cables to watch movies through the portable player and onto a tv

A portable DVD player normally only has OUTPUT jacks and would not have a reason to support input jacks. So there would be no place to INPUT your iPod signals.
So the first question is, does the portable DVD player have actual INPUT ports?

  • Connecting to portable DVD player help.

When I connect my 5G 30gb iPod to my portable DVD player (single mini plug) all I get on the player are intermittent horizontal white lines. No sound, no picture.
Yes, I have checked the video output settings on the iPod.
    What could be wrong?

As long as your DVD player accepts the plugs on your cable all you have to do is hook up the white plug to the audio. If you have a plug that looks more like a mini headphone plug then you can get an adaptor to make the RCA plug on your cord become a mini plug. Still, you should be able to just plug in the one audio plug and get sound. Same as I do on my TV that only has mono.

  • Lg slim portable dvd writer is not connecting

    Hi there
I have a Macbook Air and purchased a LG slim portable dvd writer and its not connecting. What am I doing wrong? Is it not a compatible device?
    Thanks

I  had exact same issue, and not just with external DVD player, also with hard drive I was using to try and transfer backups of previous data...
Finally out of frustration I tried a different plug which has a double usb (plugged both into imac) and then the normal plug that goes into the LG portable DVD writer and VOILA - worked like a charm :-) ... same was true of my Transcend hard drive!!!
    Hope this helps!

  • Can I upload dvd to mac from portable dvd writer?

    I have a MacBook Pro running 10.9.4.
I have a DVD of an old high school football game that I want to make copies of.  No drive in the MacBook Pro of course.  I have an LG slim portable DVD writer. Can I use this to upload the DVD to my Mac and then burn copies?
I have found instruction for burning DVD's using Disk Utility, but how do I get the original game film onto my computer to burn?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

  • How to install software for samsung portable dvd writer

Do I need to download software to use my new Samsung SE- 218CB Portable DVD Writer?  I put the disc in that came with it and nothing happened. Now I can't get it to eject to try a cd or dvd to see if it even works.  It says it is compatible with Mac, but now that I'm looking at the box, the disk only contains software download for Windows.  Any suggestions?

No you don't and that disc probably has only Windows files on it. All you have to do is connect it to a USB port and it is ready to use. To see if the drive is actually seen by your Mac open Disk Utility, It is in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, and the drive should be listed on the left hand side.
If you want an icon on the desktop when you insert a CD or DVD disc you make that change in the Finders Preferences on the General Tab.
And for it to show in the Sidebar of a Finder window check this option.

  • I created a iMovie with photos, music and titles; shared it with the media browser and burned it on a DVD RDL. The disc will play on my MacBook Pro, but it will not play on my Samsung Blu-ray Disc Player or a smaller portable DVD player. Why?

I created an iMovie with photos, music and titles; shared it with the media browser and burned it on a DV+RDL. The disc will play on my MacBook Pro, but it will not play on my Samsung Blu-ray Disc Player or a smaller portable DVD player. Why?

Probably because they don't accept that media.
Try using Verbatim DVD+DL (if your project exceeds 2 hours) or Verbatim DVD-R if it doesn't.

  • Having trouble installing LG slim portable DVD player to my new MacBook Air?

Having trouble installing LG slim portable DVD player to my new MacBook Air?

No installation required. Just plug it in to a USB port and it should work. If it doesn't then either the drive is no good or the USB port has failed.
The DVD drive will not show up on the desktop or in Finder unless you have a CD or DVD disc inserted in it. It will show in Disk Utility when it is connected to one of the USB ports.
Could also be your Air is not supplying enough power to it from just one USB port. In that case you would need a Y USB cable that connects to 2 USB ports at the same time to supply the correct amount of power to the drive.

  • Samsung Portable DVD writer SE-208 & connecting it to my iPad & TV

First should say I live in England - tried to connect to A UK forum/discussion, site kept bringing me back to the USA!
The internal DVD drive on my  iMac suddenly stopped working, so I bought an external Apple DVD drive [for about $100] , which turned out to be incompatible with pre- 2011 iMacs.
Then I bought the Samsung Portable DVD Writer SE-208, ($30!)I plugged in, it played! Watched a DVD movie immediately. Perfect.
I wanted also to use it: (a) to connect  my iPad to a Grundig TV with a HDMI 1 socket (plus AV, scart, & universal sockets) to mirror the iPad, &
    (b) to connect the Samsung itself to the TV for playing DVDS.
Seemed simple; I'd need an iPad to HDMI adapter, & then an HDMI to HDMI cable, (pref gold plated, with FerriteCore)!
100s available, looked through reviews -  & found some people warning that sellers/producers are claiming their adapters to be compatible with all iPads & phones, which they're not, won't with latest iPad.
So... emailed a company that sells a wide range, & asked exactly which ones I needed to buy. Their 2 line reply wasn't reassuring!
They were vague about mirroring iPads, but were absolutely certain that the Samsung Portable definitely can't play DVDs through a TV. Not the impression I got from the tech spec when I bought it!
Any suggestions? (I know system's different in US, but I just saw a thread here about this model of Samsung - just wouldn't let me ask a question! )
Will I be able to mirror iPad, using cables I mentioned?
I know this isn't a Mac question, but just in case....is there any way to get this Samsung playing DVD through TV? If not, is there an alternative that'll do that & work so well with my iMac?
Finally, (phew!) I've always understood there's no way to connect an external optical DVD drive to an iPad - a friend just told me I'm wrong... in this case I'd really love to be!  Is it really possible?
Kind regards, and thanks for any help anyone can offer.

You do not need to put the DVD in the chain to mirror your iPod to your TV. You merely need the Apple digital adapter and an HDMI cable. You connect the adapter to the iPad, one end of the HDMI cable to that adapter and the other to an HDMI input on your Grundig.
You cannot connect the DVD to the iPad.
You really need to look at Samsung's forum for help with your drive.
There is no UK version of the ASC.
    Happy Christmas to you.

  • I bought a LG slim portable dvd writer.  I have gotten it connected, and it seems to have downloaded the drivers but then it turns off and I cannot even get the driver CD to eject because it turns off completely.

I bought an LG Slim Portable DVD writer.  I connected it to my MacBook Air and the drivers seemed to download.  There is an icon that says SuperMulti on my desktop.  The portable drive comes on when I double click on the icon, and I hear the drive running.  It turns off about 5 seconds later and I cannot even get the driver disc out because the drive is off (no green light).
I am not savvy.  What do I do?  It says it is compatible with Mac, but then in another place in the directions it states Windows is needed. Please help an old feeble woman!

You need to contact the DVD writer manufacture/vendor customer support and/or read its user manual.  LG is not an Apple product.

  • Recommend a portable DVD drive for a MacPro. Currently on Snow Leopard but soon moving to Lion

The superdrive seems to be only for Air and Mini. Any suggestions on a portable DVD drive so I don't have to bring my computer to the store?
    Thanks!

Any external USB type DVD drive will work. I use one that came out of a Dell notebook on my Mac. You just have to make sure you get one that can connect to both USB ports at the same time, IE has a Y USB cable, in case connecting to just one USB port does not supply enough power to the drive.

  • Linking mpeg2 clips for dvd

    hi,
I am trying to figure out the best way to create a dvd and have reached a problem,
I have 30 separate mpeg2 clips which I was linking together on a dvd using dvd studio pro 1.5 eg clip 1 is set to play clip 2 when clip one ends
this works fine each clip can play into the next but the clients to be able to scroll forward but it stops at end of a clip when playing on a mac though seems to work on my dvd player, but as you scroll it slows down before starting the next clip.
So I figured the way to go would be to join all the clips together again, but how is the best way to do that?
if I import them back into final cut pro 4.5 is there a way to join them and export back out without recompressing again? as this would just lose quality,
someone suggested using quicktime pro but that crashes as soon as I put more then 2 clips together (get an unexpected error occured)
anyone know of other programmes or ideas I could try?
    many thanks
    ade

Yes - sorry Adrian - I overlooked the version you are using.
Have a look for MPEGAppend by John Brisbin - this will stitch your files together and give you markers at the joins automatically. There is a version for OS9 which is free (I think) and an OSX version which is shareware.
