Linking to Adobe Reader

Hi
I originally posted this in an Acrobat board, but after thinking about it, it really should have been posted here, so if you saw it there don't go ballistic on me.
I found this old post in Adobe's Development Knowledge base, and I'm trying to make it work with Dreamweaver CS3 and Acrobat 9/Livecycle 8:
http://support.adobe.com/devsup/devsup.nsf/docs/51866.htm
I've tried it but neither method works.
Basically I'm trying to find out how to structure my http link so that when the user opens the pdf in Reader, the toolbar email button will not function. The above link was supposed to disable the entire toolbar, which is ok too if thats the only way.
Can anyone guide me in updating the above method to work with current versions of Dreamweaver and Adobe Reader? Thanks.

Thank you for replying.
I considered passwords or certificates, but that predisposes that I know who the users are in advance. I don't, this is on an open website.
I wasn't clear on this point. I should have mentioned that I'm not looking for a foolproof way of preventing the user from emailing their responses. I don't think that is possible. I'm only attempting to discourage a user from doing so inadvertantly, by making it a little more difficult.

         How can I download a .pdf document from a web link without Adobe Reader starting automatically and preempting the download?

    That depends on your operating system and browser.  On Windows, e.g. using Firefox, you right-click on the link, then select 'Save link as...'.

    Please do not use the link that Vikram provided; it is for Windows only, and it is for the current version only.

  • Accidentally blocked a link in Adobe Reader X?

    Hi guys, when clicking on a link in a PDF file (the Flex Hero Release Notes PDF), I was prompted by Adobe Reader X about the link I clicked about to open. I accidentally clicked the middle button of that alert which I believe instructs Adobe Reader X to block the link. Unfortunately, the checkbox where it states that the action is remembered is checked. So my problem is, I can't visit the URL anymore because Adobe Reader X blocks it. I searched the Preferences but can't seem to find the option to remove blocked URLs.

    Hi,
    You can change the access to the specified URL through the following steps:
    1. Goto Edit > Preferences
    2. On the left pane click on "Trust Manager"
    3. Click on "Change Settings" button on the right window pane.
    4. In the "Web Sites" section, you will be seeing all the URL's to which user has granted or blocked access. Click on the respective URL (eg bugs.adobe.com) and click on "Delete" button above and close all Dialogs by clicking OK. This will enable Adobe Reader X to prompt for the new action to be taken when trying to access the respective URL.
    Hope this solves your issue.
    Thanks

  • Linking to adobe reader bookmarks via C#

    Hello,
      I have a pdf file that was created with bookmarks in it.  This particular document is a manual for a product we are developing.  We use this pdf document as a link to our "What's this help" in our product.  We first click the "What's this" button and then an item in our product.  As of Adobe Reader X (ARX) this is no longer working as it has in the past.  This is the process in which things should and have happened until ARX:
    1. Click the "What's this" button
    2. Click somewhere in the application
    3. Adobe Reader comes up.
    4. Adobe Reader opens the "User Manual"
    5. Adobe Reader jumps to selected bookmark.
    What is happening as of ARX is the following:
    1. Click the "What's this" button
    2. Click somewhere in the application
    3. Adobe Reader comes up.
    4. Adobe Reader opens the "User Manual"
    5. FAILURE! - Adobe Reader does NOT jump to selected bookmark.
    Nothing has changed in our code.  This worked for versions of Adobe Reader 8 and 9, but now with X it doesn't work.  Below is a code snipit of what we are doing.  Any help on the matter would be appreciated.  I have tried to put sleeps between commands to Adobe Reader but that doesn't seem to help.  I have turned off the protection mode new to ARX and that seems to help but still not consistent.
    Code Snipit:
    DdeClient client = new DdeClient("acroview", "control");
    try
       client.Connect();
    catch{}
    if (!client.IsConnected)
       client = new DdeClient("acroviewr10", "control");
       client.Connect();
    try
       client.Execute("[DocOpen(\"" + userGuide + "\")]", 10000);
       Thread.Sleep(1000);
       client.Execute("[FileOpenEx(\"" + userGuide + "\")]", 10000);
       Thread.Sleep(1000);
       client.Execute("[DocGoToNameDest(\"" + userGuide + "\"," + bookmark + ")]", 10000);

    Thank you for replying.

    How did you install the update - via website?  If so, you can always uncheck any optional software
    Either way, Chrome behaves very badly - especially when uninstalled.  Try setting your usual browser as the default browser, and Outlook, Word, etc. should open links normally after that.
    P.S. I do not endorse Adobe's policy to push optional software with their free products, but there is nothing we can do about that.  However, Adobe would not go as far as pushing spyware (Ask toolbar); most likely it was the harmless Google toolbar.

  • How can I click on a link in Adobe Reader?

    I get sent a pdf newsletter.  In this newsletter it asks parents to click on the link to reply.  The link is an email address.  However, when I try to click on the email address nothing happens.  Can you have email address links in pdf's and if so what would be the reason that I am unable to do so?  Thankyou

    If a link starts with http:// then Reader will recognize it as a link and will make it clickable.
    Reader will not recognize an email link. To make it a link you would need to use Adobe Acrobat's link tool or would have to create an email link in the original application use to create the document and convert the file to PDF leaving links intact.

  • I can't open certain url links in Adobe Reader 11.0.6 on Mac os x 10.7.5

    I have pdf documents which contain url links.
    I can open the ones without a space but not the ones that contain a space
    Would appreciate any help or advice with this.
    Thanks

    This happens because these are not true links. Links created with Acrobat using the link tool do not have this problem. Acrobat and Reader have a feature that tries to automatically recognize urls so they can act as links, but it fails when the link contains a space.

  • Downloading Adobe Reader from distribution licence link - 404 page not found

    I have recently applied for the Adobe distribution licence for Adobe Reader. This was successful, shortly after applying I received an email with the licence attached and a download link for Adobe Reader XI, The problem is the link doesn't work I just get 404 page not found, the link I cannot put on here as the licence will be broken.
    For full installers:
    To download the English language version of Adobe Reader XI with Acrobat.com in compressed .exe format, click here.
    You may not share the above link, share information with others, or publish the above link on websites, blogs, or by any other means that can be publicly accessed. The information contained on this site is meant for your use only in accordance with the Adobe Reader Distribution License Agreement you accepted. You may direct others to http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/rdr_distribution1.html to request distribution rights.
    What i need to know is can anyone (from Adobe) send me a replacement link, can I re-apply for the licence to get another link or even better under this licence can I download the software from Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions instead. I have contacted Adobe chat support who directed me to phone support, phone support flat out refused to help and said the only support would be via this forum.
    Hopefully someone here can answer my questions.
    Thanks all.

    Brilliant thanks, I see nothing wrong with downloading from here, it even states "In order to distribute Adobe Reader software you need to have a valid Adobe Reader Distribution Agreement in place" which I do.
    Thanks again ~graffiti

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.0 Availability

    Hi,
    Could you please let me know why links to Adobe Reader 11.0.0 installation packages (in English) for different operating systems were removed from this page: http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/?
    Thank you.

    Hi Claudio,
    Thanks for your reply! I am interested exactly in 11.0.0 version. Earlier http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/ contained all available versions of Reader, but recently all older versions (that were issued before 11.0.01, 10.1.5 and 9.5.3) were removed from this repository. Maybe latest Reader revisions contain critical security updates or bugs fixes, so that all older version can't be used any more. But this is just my suggestion, and I'm still interested in the real reasons for this.

  • Adobe Reader 8.x Help vs. Windows default browser

    Why following any Web link within Adobe Reader 8.1 Help
    invokes unconditionally start of Internet Explorer ?
    The fact what browser is set as default one is being ignored during this !!!
    Strange strategy of Adobe.

    The fact that URL links from within Adobe Reader always launch Internet Explorer instead of the default browser, say Firefox, seems be a common problem from within the Reader, not just within the Help (Google Adobe Reader default browser").
    Last year Adobe's own tech note declared it "a rare problem and there is no known solution":
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15579
    and the rpoblems continue in relation to Vista [HTML links don't open in default web browser on Windows Vista (Adobe AIR)]:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb403122
    It also seems to have been a problem for long time going back to early versions of Mozilla Firefox 1.06. Various forums say that it's just a matter of using Start | Set Program Access and Defaults, and choosing "Use default browser" or forcing Firefox to be the default. I found that neither method worked.

    http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t219716-adobe-reader-6.html
    The solution I chose to make URL links in PDFs trigger my Firefox browser reliably was to dump Adobe Reader and install the faster and smaller Foxit Reader (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php). The only change you need to make inside Foxit is to tick the "Create links from URLs" tickbox under Edit | Preferences | General.

    Is there any way to create invisible link on Adobe Reader Android?
    I made link type : invisible on acrobat pro 9, but the link still shows up on adobe reader android. And for interactive purpose, I don't want to use bookmark. Any idea?

    You can't. Reader is just a PDF viewer and not much else.
