Linking to "book with link" topics

Hi Everyone,
In RH10, is it possible to link to a topic that is a "book with link" topic and have the book topic expand in the TOC?
If you link to a normal topic with the "Autosynchronise TOC" option switched on, the destination topic in the TOC is highlighted in grey and the book is expanded like this:
However if I link to the Printing book topic, the book looks like this:
But I'd like it to look like this:
Can this be done?

Apologies if I'm being obtuse here, but I don't fully understand your suggestion.

Do you mean the source topic links to the redirect topic, which in turn "links" to the destination book topic via the meta tag?

I have a book with a link that links to a subtopic (see structure below). When I click Book1, the 1.1. Book doesn't open and won't open when clicked on. I have a vague memory of there being an issue around this but could not find anything in the forum search.

RH11 TOC "book with link" icon

Hello! I have a question about customizing the TOC icons in RH11. I used the Responsive HTML5 Settings GUI to change all the TOC icons... EXCEPT the open book with link. This appears to be pulling a .png from the template resources folder, but there is no way to change it in the output settings within RH11 itself. Can I edit one of the Javascript files get it to pull a custom icon? Or am I stuck with the default icon? (In the image below, it's the third icon down.)

Willam is our resident guru on these matters but pending his confirmation, I think the solution is to locate the image in the template folder and substitute it with what you want, using the same name and backing up the original in case.

Link in Webhelp to open sub-TOC tree of a 'Book with Link'

Hi all, hoping I can find a solution for this.
Currently, and as it should, I link to a page in my webhelp, from within my webhelp. i.e front page has a link that refers to another section in the webhelp. The links work fine, these links however are going to the 'book' (I created the TOC books to be books with links) and within these books are other topics.#
Is there a way to make it so that when the user clicks a link that goes to one of these 'books' in the TOC, that the toc tree also drops down.
example (hard to explain)
TOC
Home (contains link that user clicks which goes to Page 1)
Page 1 (book with link)
sub-page1 (remains closed until user opens it by clicking 'Page 1' book)
subpage 2 (remains closed until user opens it by clicking 'Page 1' book)
I would like those sub-pages to be opened when the link is clicked. Can it be done?

For what it's worth, Leon's suggestion is what I too would recommend. When I facilitate a RoboHelp class and am discussing the "Book with link" feature, I typically will suggest that this approach is used.
@Leon - I think this changed with a recent forum upgrade. Annoying, isn't it?
Standard definiton of any upgrade: Uninstall old bugs. Install new ones.

Is there a way to link two FrameMaker 12 books with shared content into the same RoboHelp 11 file?

This one might require some back story.
I'm working at a company with roughly 60 business units that will each be getting their own emergency response procedures (.FM files compiled into a single FrameMaker .book file for their department). I then want to link all of these books to a single RoboHelp so that when it comes time to publish all of these plans into WebHelp menus I can do that with a single batch generate/publish.
My problem is that some of the FM files within the books are shared (maybe two or more departments are at the same location or all of them share the same corporate level plans) so that when I try to link two books with a shared FM file it throws an error.
Is there away to allow multiple copies of a FM file to exist in a single RoboHelp? Or is there a better solution to the task at hand?
Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated as I am still a moderate beginner with Frame and RoboHelp.

P.S. Just to complicate things this will all be done via SharePoint so books and FM files live there, and then the RoboHelp output will be published there.

I think you’re looking at creating a merged RH project – one parent project that subsumes all the linked FM to RH child projects – read up on merged help on Peter’s site (grainge.org)

Contact photos are not showing up in Mail message list, even though the message will link to the contact card in Address Book with the photo in it.

the report.

ID CS 4 exporting PDF books with low-res graphics

I've been exporting ID CS 4 documents to PDF with absolutely no problems, but today I created a book containing multiple documents, and I'm running into a snag when exporting.
If I open a single document and export as PDF, everything is fine. All the images in the document are rendered in high resolution.
If I open a book containing that very same document as well as another document, then I export the book as PDF, many, but not all, of the graphics in the original document are rendered in very low resolution. See image below.
Why? I didn't change a single thing in the dialog box for exporting to PDF.
I did several tests and it appears that if I open all the documents which comprise the book, all the images in the exported PDF are high resolution as desired. However, ultimately I want to create a book with 120+ documents, and there's no way I can keep them all open in memory without ID crashing. Yes, I suppose I can open a subset of the documents, export them, then combine the PDFs in Acrobat, but that's a cludge workaround.
Surely ID CS4 should be able to properly export as PDF a book containing a lot of documents with images, but damned if I can figure out what's causing these low-res images to appear.
If anyone has a solution, I would be very grateful if you'd share it with me.

I don't have a lot of files to test with, but I have one book that has about a dozen component files and around 200 images that's still in CS4. I just tried and export withthe docs closed here, and ID opened them all, as expected, exported, and reclosed them. I see no signs of image degradation, but these are not scaled images -- they were all converted to the correct profiles and scaled in Photoshop and then re-linked during the editing process, and I run Windows, and I'm only at 6.0.5 because this book has a number of Illustrator charts that I spent hours getting right in the first edition and I didn't want to risk them changing, so it may be an apples to oranges comparison.
The last thing I have for a suggestion to try would be a manual prefs replacement (so you can put your current set back when it turns out to be irrelevant). See Replace Your Preferences
Other than that, I'd say you may have found yourself a bug, and there's not a chance in the world that it will ever be fixed for CS4.

Replacing all text in book with sample text

Is there a way to replace all the textual content in a book with some sample text using Extendscript?

Yes, the point that Rick was making crossed my mind, too. Using regular expressions, you can easily specify which characters should be replaced. Listing a number of same-width characters and replacing them with an "x" is as easy as this:
sTextString.replace ( /[abcdefghknopqrsuvyz]/g, "x" );
This would leave the non-mentioned characters as they are. Depending a little bit on the fonts that are used, of course, as they might have different character widths for more than the ones I left out. But even if you only replace a couple of characters throughout the doc, it would be enough to get the desired effect.
The difficulty is getting to the text strings and also to replace them. There are many objects for which a GetText method exists, but you have to set the flags such that you actually get the right text strings out of that method. And then you have to figure out where in the doc the text string is, then delete the existing one and add the replacement. All of this has to be done without deleting any markers or anchors.
Another approach might be to set the text location to the first character in the main flow and then walking through the entire document character by character, testing each one and replacing it where required. But I don't think you would get into tables with that method, as those are linked to the running text via an anchor in that running text. So the table cells will have to be processed separately. And if you do have a method to change text in table cells, you can use that method on all paragraphs.
I think Rick has more experience in tweaking text strings. I am usually working on structured documents and only handling the element objects and their hierarchy, not so much changing the text content of documents. Rick, do you have an approach to walk through all text strings in a document and replace them without breaking anything ?

Interactivity in Book with single page documents

I'm currently working with a book, with single page documents.
I'm trying to use the interactivity features for buttons in CS5.5
I was able to get pages 2-5 to link to the first page, which we have set up as the table of contents.
However, I'm having issues trying to link button from the 'Table of Contents' to the single pages of the book.
For example, I have a button that, once click will take you to page 2, and another button that will take you to page 3 once clicked.
Once I export to an Interactive PDF, the buttons on the 'Table of Contents' do not work.
However the buttons on pgs. 2-5, that go to the 'First Page' work.
Any suggestions/tips on how to get buttons to work on the first page, that will navigate you to the specified page?

Book settings always trump File settings, so make certain that in your book file Numbering and Pagination settings do not allow any "Read from File" settings.
What's the Numbering setting for Page in the book files for the chapters? Typically, you should have this set to "Continue Numbering from Previous Page in Book" for all but the first chapter, if you want continuous numbering.
Also make certain that if you want continuous pagination, that you don't have any chapters forced to start on a Right-hand page with the previous chapter also ending on a Right page. This will force FM to add an extra (Left) page and also bump up the page numbering.

Wrong PC in MIGO how to reverse and book with the right PC

Objective:
My controller wanted to reverse the Entries From Profit Center A to Book it with Profit Center B, since they use the Profit Center B.
My detailed Analysis:
PC = A
PC = B
Internal Order was created = A123 > and had PC = A assigned to it.
Production Order was created for Material No = M123 with respect to Internal order = A123 > and has PC = A assigned to it, since Material Master = M123 has PC = A in the costing view.
When i check the entries it was all MIGO i saw something strange that these MIGO entries were booked with different materials other than the Material assigned in the production order.
Any ways even if MIGO would have book with the same Material master but since there is PC = A in the Internal Order and Production order it will default the PC A in the accounting entries.
so if we analyze the above scenario, there should be a PC = B assigned in the IO A123 and Production Order A123, then it would work.
so what would be the solution to achieve my objective, in the above case.

It can be quite frustrating to program using the DAQmxBase driver. Beaware, that this is just a temporary driver. The next release of the DAQmx driver will include the usb-600x series.
When this is said, you should be able to use the driver. To make sure that the device is working use one of the examples found by pressing the windows start button > Programs > National Instruments > DAQmxBase > Examples > LabVIEW.
The examples will give you a good starting point.
Also I would make sure that I had the newest version of the driver installed. Following link will provide that for you:
