Linking to FM 10 with variables

FM 10, RH 9 Linked files
I have variables in the FM book files to change the customer name, etc. They are great! However, in RH when I link to FM book, the variables do not come over correctly. The variables exist, I can modify them and the Help content is updated as expected. However, they do not come OVER with the correct Variable text.
for exampel in FM variable "Cust_name" = Kensullco.
But in RH "Cust_name" = Domco, which was the old definition of that variable.
I have updated files. Many times. I even started over by deleting my files and relinking them all. Still the variables are coming in w/the old definitions. I added some test text into a file to Make Sure I am linking correctly, which I am. Why am i getting bad data in my variables? Any idea?

It is still a manual process, however, which really should be automated as the followup poster notes.
Now, I notice that when I update my entier book of three linked framemaker files and a TOC, my RH crashes every time. It does not crash if I update them individually. Stand by for a new thread on that little bugger....

Dynamic target directory with variable substitution

Hi everyone.
I'm trying to save a file in a folder with receiver adapter.
This folder is determined in runtime and passed to the adapter with variable substitution. My problem is that in RWB i get a error like this : 'Content of variable XXXXX is not safe'
Does anybody have done a variable substituion for output directory receiver file adapter?

How do I create an interactive PDF file with variable data

We would like to basically do a 'mail merge' of our list of customers with an interactive PDF file (including videos, menus, etc - not just form fill out and web links) to create a single PDF file that contains multiple mail pieces ... one for each customer ... with each mail piece being customized for that customer. Customizations would include different greetings (Dear Bob, Dear Dana, etc), as well as different charts based on data unique to the customer, different photographs, etc.
I've seen that InDesign and Acrobat Professional can be used to create an interactive PDF (such as from http://tv.adobe.com/watch/ask-the-adobe-ones/14-calling-rufus-about-interactive-pdf-making). However I don't understand how I can insert data from a database, csv file, excel file etc into the PDF file so that each page, or each set of pages, within the PDF can be customized.
Can anyone point me to a tool to use for this?

We have 2 options with replacement path for characteristic variables i.e.
1) Replace with query
2) Replace with variable.
Now, when we use "Replace with variable" we give the variable name. Then we get a list for "Replace with" as follows:
1) Key
2) External Characteristic Value Key
3)Label
4)Attribute value.
I need detailed explanation for the above mentioned 4 options with scenarios.

HOW TO CREATE A CONNECTION IN BI PUBLISHER WITH VARIABLE ENTRY

I've created one user(say BIPUB1) from AS OIDDAS portal and assigned him XMLP_ADMIN role. I've 10 other users with whom I will share a report. Each user has different authorization(VPD based). Now I want to create a BI-publisher report using a discoverer report(owner BIPUB1) as datamodel and share that report with all 10 users. But all these 10 users should view data based on their authorization defined in OIDDAS. How should I
achieve it?
Can I create a JDBC connection from BI-publisher Admin tab with variable userid and password. When user will logon to BIpublisher portal with login_id and password given in OIDDAS, these variables will capture those values of userid and password and show the report data as they individual user has authorization? Or otherwise please suggest how to maintain authorization. Thanks..

are you talking about BI Publisher Desktop or BI Publisher Enterprise Edition?
BI Publisher Desktop is just for building templates.
You can connect to DB by BI Publisher Enterprise Edition.

    If you know the no. of columns to be used in the ALV before hand then you can change the field catalog.
but if you dont know the no. of columns then you can create dynamic table.
eg:
1. Create your field catalog either manually or automatically using the function module, LVC_FIELDCATALOG_MERGE. Add more rows to the field catalog table (T_FIELDCAT) at run time.
2. Use the field catalog to create a table dynamically using the method below.
DATA: T_OUTPUT TYPE REF TO DATA
FIELD-SYMBOLS: <T_OUTPUT> TYPE TABLE
Call Method CL_ALV_TABLE_CREATE->CREATE_DYNAMIC_TABLE

As far as i understand your problem you need three things to display.
Suppose you have a key figure sales and you want to display cumulative sales (current year till month entered by user) and another sales of next two months.
For next months based on user entry you can work around with offset only.Restrict your keyfigure with 0calmonth offset1 and offset2.
FOr yeat till month requirement you need to make one customer exit variable.Please check the below link for the same.

A cursor fetch loop is not the ideal processing structure.
It is slow. It requires data to travel from the buffer cache of the database into PL/SQL variables (in the PGA). It requires context switching between the PL/SQL and SQL engines.
It does not scale. More rows means more data to travel that path from the SQL engine to the PL/SQL engine. More loop iterations in PL/SQL. This is not a standard client-server method. It also does not scale. It can actually crash the server when this method is abused.
The standard method would be to create a SQL cursor using PL/SQL code, and then return a reference handle (pointer) to the client. This allows the client the ability to fetch data directly from the cursor - in an optimal way that does not consume expensive server memory.I have to say it: I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write this whenever it needs to be written rather than just giving up and letting people stumble along with bad design - it must take a lot of mental stamina to keep doing it. One day it will sink into my head also :-)

Hi! I have a problem with variables in Crystal Reports formulas, when using CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms.CrystalReportViewer class from VS2005-project. I am having the same problem:
I am designing a report in Crystal Reports XI Developer that contains parameters, which are passed to a stored procedure and are also used within formulas ( in Crystal Syntax ie. {?FORMAT_ID} ) in the report itself.
I can run the report successfully in CRXI Developer. The formulas use the correct values from the parameters entered during execution and everything looks good.
I then deploy the report to Business Objects Enterprise XI. I do all of the things necessary to manage the report including setting up the proper database connection information and default parameter values.
When I run the report using the Crystal Report Viewer, I get the following error message:
Error in File Forecasting.rpt:
Error in formula <Report Format>.
'if (not isNull({?FORMAT_ID} ) ) then
This field name is not known.
Details: errorKind
This happens when I press the "Preview" button in the Manage Object dialog from Crystal or when I run the report using InfoView.
I have changed the formulas and it doesn't seem to matter what the specific content of the formula is; other than the existence of a parameter reference in the formula. If I comment out the parameter and replace it with a hard-coded value, it gets through the formula fine.
Does Business Objects Enterprise XI support crystal reports with parameter references in the formulas?

Issue with Variable Personalisation in Bex Report

Hi Gurus,
I'm facing a typical problem with Variable presonalisation in the Report.
I've executed a BEX Report and filtered data on some characteristics and used SAVE AS Button on the Portal to save the resultset. When I'm trying to use the variants, again say after 2 or 3 days i couldn't find updated data for particular variants upon using the same variants rather its refelecting the old data. Further more when I execute the report and try filtering on the same criteria altogether, I'm able to see updated result set.
Is there any setting to be enabled when we personalise variants or variants are dependent on the data or the date on which they are created. Not sure why the reports are behaving this way. Or Do I need to create variants time and again.
Any pointers would be of great help.

Hello,
In the BEx report, when you get the variable selection screen there input your selection and at the bottom you have the option of saving them as a variant.
Now in future when you run the report simply use this variant and execute the report. It should work fine.
Also remember date selection can be tricky. If you input todays date in the variant, it wil consider the same date in further references. So do a check on that too.

Insert your backup disc (or plug your external hd), then open Mail.
In the File menu, click *Import Mailboxes* and follow the steps for a *Mail for Mac OS X* transfer.
Navigate to your CD/DVD's or external HD's backup and hit "OK".
This should create a new "Imported" folder in Mail with all your old messages in it, that you can then rearrange as you wish, creating new mailboxes etc.

The problem occures while transferring the variable parameter %TIME_SET% value.
How can we correctly transfer the selected value of TIME_SET into the procedure?

Everything in the debug log looks correct -- the most important lines are the ones indicating the values passed from the user's response to the PROMPT(SELECTINPUT...)

Are you certain that the stored proc is processing the input parameter for time correctly, when you run it directly in MS Mgmt Studio?
What error messages do you see running it from BPC?
By "customized user authorities" do you mean that the time dimension is secured, and this user has access only to 2008.total and its descendants? If that's the case, the user should be able to see only those members in the action pane / current view, but the SELECTINPUT prompt should only show the base members (and not the year total and quarters). I'm still confused as to why all 12 + 4 + 1 members are passed through to the stored proc.
