Linking to PDF Files in the Table of Contents

I know there is a way to link directly to a PDF file from the table of contents, but it is beyond me. Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks, Kathy

Hi Kathy
It's probably advisable to first add the PDF as a Baggage File. Then when you are creating the TOC entry point, you point at the Baggage File.
If that wasn't what you were hoping to see, you could also do it by simply linking to the PDF as you would a Web Page by specifying the explicit URL that would open the same file if you were doing it using a browser.
Cheers... Rick

  • Print Series of PDF Files Based on Table of Contents PDF

    Hello,
    Background: Procedure "manual" that is composed of a table of contents PDF (TOC). Each entry in the TOC has a link to a seperate PDF file. When a user (in Reader) selects a link, the appropriate section of the manual opens, i.e. the correct PDF file opens. They can then print that particular file.
    My question: Is there a script that would allow my user to print all of the manual, that is, all of the PDF files linked to the TOC, in the same order, using a menu or button on the TOC PDF?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    I have developed a script that can do just that, but with locally saved PDF
    files:
    http://try67.blogspot.com/2009/10/combine-pdf-files-from-text-list.html
    It might be possible to adjust it to do what you describe. If you're
    interested, contact me personally by PM or at try6767 at gmail dot com.

  • How do I create links in a file like a table of contents to different sections in a .pdf document?

    I'm trying to take multiple files and create one large (165 page) document but would like to create links to the different "chapters" within the document.

    LH,
    You may (you can see Groups in the Layers palette with the layer expanded):
    1) Ctrl/Cmd+A to select everything and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+G to Ungroup ;
    2) ShiftClick the circle to deselect it; if it is still a Group (all of its own), Ungroup again;
    3) With the Centre Reference Point ticked in the Transform palette multiply the W or H value by 1.1 (just add *1.1 in the box) and Ctrl/CmdEnter to keep proportions (this is to make sure that they are long enough);
    4) Ctrl/Cmd+A to select everything again and Pathfinder>Divide (this will make pie pieces);
    5) Drag over the centre with the Direct Selection Tool and press Delete (this will rid you of the inner parts of the pie pieces so you just have the outer rim in pieces).
    This should give you the 30 independent curved lines forming the circle, two of them with an extra (original) Anchor Point.

    Target: I have a array of cluster in my project in main VI and have lots of VIs which uses this array via reference as global variable.
    When accessing that array from a lot of locations simultanously you will get RACE CONDITIONS. Easily and fast…
    Use a FGV aka AE instead to encapsulate your "data object"!
    Another good option sounds like the Data Value Reference.  Those work really well if you want to keep a reference to pass around to everybody.

    Since you have to store a binary file you
    can use LONG RAW.

    You can download the trial version (http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html) to convert the PDF back to WORD if you do not have the original. The conversion may not be perfect, but it is typically better than starting from scratch. You may be lucky and get a good result. You might check the settings (in the save screen) to try retain format versus retain text flow. The format version can be a pain to edit since it creates a bunch of text boxes. The flow version may require you to reformat in WORD, but you likely would want to do that anyway.

    Hi There:  I am having a problem where pdf files on the web (i.e., links in a Word doc) open after an extended time and only as gobbldygook ( a file containing a series of characters and letters that make no sense).  This also happens for another Mac user coworker in my office, while the PCs don't have this problem...  Any help/suggestions for a fix would be most appreciated!

    Just adding more info - MacBookPro running 10.5.8 and using Safari as the browser.  The problem comes and goes - sometimes the linked Word files will open OK, n others its just a strring of crazy characters...

  • Paste the link function in a pdf file in the preview is missing?

    Paste the link function in a pdf file in the preview is missing? Please insert again, in Lion he was still there, please help me

    Don't think so. If it is it would be in the metadata for the PDF -- ctrl D and select the left most tab. There should be a button for additional data if you want to explore.

  • Add link to PDF file

    Suppose a PDF file has some URL string like http://abc.com and also has some email address string, such as [email protected] and also has a table of contrnts. Is there any programming way
    1. Extract those URL or Email String
    2. Add link (action) to those URL or Email string so when user click URL, it will bring browser to that URL, when user click email address, it will bring up some email software, such as Outlook to get a email dialog window.
    3. Add some link to the table of content so when user click a chapter line in the table of contents, then PDF jump to the page of the start of that chapter.
    Thanks,
    P

    Hi qpan
    Yes, there is. Using LC Assembler (invoke DDX service) you can extract, import and replace links within a pdf document. There is a detailed tutorial called "Developing Applications for LiveCycle Assembler" (page 69-71).
    Here are some DDX samples:
    Exporting links from multiple sources:
    <Links result="links1.xfdf">
    <PDF source="doc1.pdf" />
    <PDF source="doc2.pdf" />
    </Links>
    Replacing links:
    <PDF result="doc3.pdf">
    <PDF source="doc2.pdf">
    <Links source="links1.xfdf" />
    </PDF>
    </PDF>

  • Link in pdf-file does not work on Ipad

    With my site www.bartkuijer.nl I offer visitors the free possibility to see (and download) sheetmusic, from music written by me. These are pdf-files. But they can not only SEE the sheetmusic; the music on that pdf-files can also be PLAYED. That's done bij clicking on a link in that pdf-file to a mp3-file of the music on my site.
    This works fine on a pc. When I try this on the Ipad of my wife it DOES NOT WORK!
    So my question is: how come? And what to do to make this work also fine on an Ipad.
    This is important for me, because I want this sheetmusic to place as Ipad-apps for free.

    It works!
    But not with a pdf-file. The Ipad does not recognize links in a pdf-file.
    Te solution is found by making a htm-file with emdedding a quicktime-player and images of the music. This is my first Ipad product. On a pc the player starts immediately; on the Ipad it has to be started.
    Now I have to work on a solution to change this to an app

  • How to create link for pdf file in discoverer worksheet

    Hi All,
    I would like to create a link for pdf file into discoverer report (worksheet).
    So that i can open linked pdf file using worksheet link.
    Can any one tell me about this?
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi,
    I think the best way to do this is to use a database directory so that you can access your pdf file as a bfile. Then create a mod_plsql procedure that sets the mime type and downloads the pdf file. You then create a calculation in the EUL then returns the URL to your mod_plsql procedure. You can then include this calculation as a hyperlink in your worksheet.
    It is not as difficult as it sounds. Please let me know if you need anymore details.

  • Is there any way to embed the pdf file in the book created in iBooks Author to make it available to be downloaded or sent to email? So that the user can print it out.

    Is there any way to embed the pdf file in the book created in iBooks Author to make it available to be downloaded or sent to email?
    I'm making the book for children and there is one chapter providing coloring pages. So I wish to attach pdf files that allow users to download it at the end of chapter so that  they can print it out. Been searching through discussion, I've found some advice about taking screen snapshot page-by-page > then send the pics from photo album to email. However, I'm wondering if there's a way that make the process easier.

    Warehouse that PDF on your own server, then link to it from your book.
