Linking to Shared Drive in InDesign

I know how to create Hyperlinks in InDesign, but what if I want the user/reader to be able to click on a Shared Drive link that will take them directly to a particular shared drive folder on a company’s shared drive? Is this possible? It’s not an “http” link, it’s totally different, so I can’t select the URL option…

Welcome to our community, Dennis
You might try first clicking the down arrow to the left of
where the Hyperlink information goes in the Hyperlink dialog. From
there, choose File... Then type the \\servername\folder in the File
Name field.
If that fails (and it may) you may wish to consider using a
Redirect page to link to the file.
Cheers... Rick

  • How can I include shared drive link to form in submission email?

I am an assistant in an office where we will be using Adobe Forms to initiate the start of a project. My bosses are to save their form in a corresponding folder, then "submit" the form to me to alert me to continue with project initiation.
My question is: Is there  away to, in the body of the email, include a link to where the Adobe form is saved on our shared drive so that I can click on the link and go straight to it, instead of using the attachment? This, I hope, will prevent the form being saved in two different places.

    Hi CSchoolinLife,
Yes you can include customized content in the email body .
Please save the form from https://workspaces.acrobat.com/?d=0n*uLjnmLGX8VlHRCW5n7A and check different options you can use in an email button (programatically and through GUI).

  • Link to file on Shared Drive

In one of my report output, I need to include a link(url) to file on Shared Drive. The path is stored in database and it will be retrieved in query. The file can be either PDF/WORD/Excel for now.
For ex. e:\\abc\share\test.xls should appear as url in report and when user clicks the url, it should open the test.xls file.
Could some body help me how to do this?
    Thank You.

    Hi..
    I have the same scenario..
One of the columns in the xml file has a path on the shared drive..
    like...
    S:\MANAGERS\xxxx.doc
when the user clicks on the hyperlink the documnet doesn't open and is giving an error as
cannot find file:///u01/oracle/product/10.1.3/dmidr3/j2ee/home/S:\MANAGERS\xxxx%20.doc make sure the path or internet address is correct.
As you can see the report is adding the path ///u01/oracle/product/10.1.3/dmidr3/j2ee/home/ before the actual path that appears in the report.
    Snippet of my xml file..

  • Link to fold on shared drive from PDF

    Hi all,
I have a PDF document that I would like a text box to link (open a shared drive)to a shard folder drive. I have tried the file:/// (path) but it does not work.
I basically want a visual box a user clicks to go to the specific folder on the drive as the address name is very long.
    Anyone have ideas?
    Thanks,

The PDF language allows for any type of URI that you wish to supply, which may point to a file, folder or any other object.
However, do to security concerns, a conforming PDF viewer (such as Adobe Acrobat or Reader) may choose not to implement all possible URI schemes. in this particular case, Acrobat/Reader do not support a "folder" scheme.

  • How to install Adobe InDesign from Shared Drive ?

I was given a volume licensed DVD and was instructed to remotely install the software on another user's PC. I tried copying the setup file to the shared drive but was unable to install the software (serial key invalid) numerous times. Experienced no problems when attempting to install direct from the DVD. The DVD is a burnt copy from the original. I would install the application directly using the DVD but the user is located in a different state. Any solutions ?

  • I can't access shared drives and printers

My home has been wired with ethernet cables, so there are ethernet jacks in every room. There is one central place where they all the ethernet cables meet to connect to a hub and a cable modem. At this central place I have a D-Link 802.11g router connected to the hub. At the other end of my home I have a Airport Extreme base station connected to an ethernet jack. I have WEP password on the base station.
My problem is that when there is a password on the base station I can't access shared drives and printers. I can only acces them if I am connected with a wire or I connect to the secured (password) D-Link Wifi router that is connected directly to the hub.
What do I need to do to be able to access the shared drives and printers and keep my base station secured?
    Thank you.

Whether or not you can access devices on your cabled network via the Airport Base Station is not dependent on whether or not wireless security is configured on that base station. Instead, it requires disabling the router built into the Base Station. See the article ABS as a wireless access point

  • Sync shared drive to sharePoint document library

Is it possible to sync files in shared drive to SharePoint site?
if i add any new files it should get updated in Document lib too .
    V Jean

    Hi,
For your requirement, you can take consideration of mapping a SharePoint library with a local drive folder.
Here is a link will provide more details:

  • External Shared Drive Issues

I have a brand new AirPort Extreme.  I am using it with three Windows 7 computers.  All are successfully receiving a wireless internet signal from it.  My issue is that I want to share an external drive.  Currently I have a 150GB external drive (formatted appropriately in FAT32) linked to the AE via USB, and I can see, read, write to it from the laptop on which I have the AirPort utility installed.  But my other Windows 7 machines (which receive wirless internet from the AE) do not 'see' the drive at all.  What am I missing?  Do I need to have the Airport utility installed on all the computers in order for them to see the external shared drive?  How do I connect to the drive from the other machines?  Thanks!

If you want to maintain the ability to edit the projects, all moves must be done from within iMovie.
See iMovie Help for details, but in a nutshell, you can click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK. Then Command-Drag the Event in the Event Library List in iMovie to the small icon for the external drive in the Event Library List in iMovie.
Another way. Drag the Project to the external drive icon, again using the Project Library List in IMovie. Then with the Project selected, click FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA and make the appropriate choices. This will put Project, Events referenced by the project, Photo copies, and Music copies all on the same drive so they can be used on another Mac.
USB will work, although FW800 is faster. The bus speed is typically not the bottleneck on an HD render.

  • Time machine won't back up to windows shared drive

...I've been through all the possible solutions for this I can find on the web, but Time Machine just produces the 'error 45 message' when trying to back up to windows shared drive.
Has anyone had this prob/found a way around this?
    Thanks

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
That's not a supported destination. Windoze doesn't provide the things OSX and Time Machine require. See #2 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum) for supported destinations.

  • Connecting to shared drive on Windows 7 PC

I've read a number of "how to" explanations onlinbe but for the life of me I can not connect to a shared drive on a Windows PC I have just installed as an audio server. I can see the PC under "Shared" in Finder but when I select Connect As I eventually get an error message that reads
There was a problem connecting to the server "pc-name".  The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
    I get the same error message if I try to connect by G0->Connect to Server and enter smb://{IP-address of server}
    Ideas?

If there is, it might be listed here*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html
Otherwise use those resources to find one that is known to be compatible with what you need. Unfortunately some printers don't have compatible drivers with all operating systems.

  • Merged Projects on a shared drive

I have a merged project and it's currently saved to a shared drive, as you probably already know my projects run EXTREMELY slow.  Is there a way around this?  What we want is to have the project saved on a shared drive where multiple authors can save to.  Any suggestions?

    Hi there

Not sure how I'd know that, but in any case the universal equation goes like this:
    RoboHelp Project on a network = S L O W (and hazardous to the project's health)
If you really need collaboration, you need to investigate a Source Control system. (RoboSource Control, PVCS, StarTeam, Visual Source Safe, etc.)

  • Can not get exclusive lock on the shared drive of Azure file storage

One of my application need exclusive access on the data folder where it writes the data.
I have setup data folder in Z drive which is shared drive of Azure File system.
The application is not able to get the exclusive access on the data folder and throws IO exception.
Is that not possible with shared drive of azure file system

    Hi Subodh,
You could refer the following link for details on how pessimistic concurrency (Exclusive lock) managed in Azure Storage:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/09/08/managing-concurrency-in-microsoft-azure-storage-2/
Please be advised that an Exclusive lock on an Azure File Share is not possible using REST Protocol and need to be done using the SMB Protocol.
You could refer the following link for details on how to manage SMB File locking:

  • Intermittant disconnection of Shared Drives on Windows 7 Client machines hosted in WIndows Server 2008 Standard Edition

    The environment - Windows Server 2008 Standard/Windows 7 32 bit Client machine.
Share - It is not a DFS share.
    Antivirus - McAfee
The issue - 1 user is unable to connect to a particular shared drive hosted from within the Windows Server 2008 Standard file server.  This drive is one of the multiple drives which are supposed to be connected to the user machine during logon using
the logon script.  All the other drives mentioned in the logon script gets mapped fine but one particular drive does not.  The user uses a laptop and we have checked his connections while in LAN, Wireless, VPN.  Everything seems to be working
fine apart from this one shared drive.  Rest of the users within that office gets the drive fine but just not this one user.  Since we are not domain admins so we do not have a visibility of the group policies linked to this particular drive and
hence RSOP as well does not help.  We have not seen the user getting logged into the machine using a TEMP profile as well for us to ascertain that the issue may be with a TEMP profile logon.
Please note that the drive does get connected at times and at times the connection just drops off!  As an interim measure the local IT has created a batch file and given it to the user which maps the drive for the user.
Any help in resolving this long impending issue would be much appreciated!
    Suman

    Hi Suman,
You could keep the session always active to workaround this issue. Please open Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policy -> Security Options and set the value of the policy Microsoft Network Server:Amount
of idle time required before suspending a session to 99999 and see how it works.
This security setting determines the amount of continuous idle time that must pass in a Server Message Block (SMB) session before the session is suspended due to inactivity. Administrators can use this policy to control when a computer suspends an inactive
SMB session. If client activity resumes, the session is automatically reestablished. For this policy setting, a value of 0 means to disconnect an idle session as quickly as is reasonably possible. The maximum value is 99999, which is 208 days; in effect, this
    value disables the policy.

  • Help adding new Macs to the household, creating shared drive for iTunes,

    I have a few questions:
My husband and I recently both got MacBook Pros. Our former set-up was a iMac which backs up to a 500 G Time Capsule. We have a large iTunes library and iPhoto library on the iMac. The iMac is going to turn in to the kids computer. I would like to do the following:
    1. transfer photos to my MBP (#1). Will the Time Machine backup for the iMac become significantly smaller, making room for the soon to be larger backup of the MBP #1? Little confused how that is going to work.
    2. have shared access to iTunes library? basically it would be nice for all 3 computers to have the complete iTunes library, but I would also like to backup all 3 computers using Time Machine and don't want to have triplicates of the library. I was trying to figure out if the way to go is to put the iTunes on a shared drive on the Time Capsule, but is there a way for the 3 computers to 'sync' to the shared drive when new music is added? Finally, if the iTunes is within a shared drive does that mean it won't be backed up?
Much appreciation and thanks to anyone who can help make sense of this.

Update: Downloaded free version of Syncopation, and am hopeful this is going to some what solve my iTunes issue.
New question would be: when creating the Time Machine backups for MBP#1 and MBP #2 can I NOT back up the iTunes folders? That would save approx. 36G on each of these backups, right? 72G total of the Time Capsule space. And the assumption is that with Syncopation, as long as the iMac iTunes is backed up then, you have everything.
