Linking up PSE 11 to iPhoto

Hello,
I use a Mac, and I’m trying to link up my iPhoto with PSE 11 Editor. I’d like to edit photos in PSE 11 Editor, while storing and managing them in iPhoto.
I sought help in this forum before and was sent a link with instruction about linking up the two programs and was sent the following instructions to establish the connection:
iPhoto>Preferences>General>Edit photo>Application>PSE Editor>Support Files>PSE Editor.
But Preferences>General doesn’t provide an Edit photo option. I got Edit photo under the Advanced tab, and selected PSE 11. The panel doesn’t provide an option for linking up iPhoto to PSE 11 Editor. In fact it doesn’t provide any options.
I would appreciate any tips for connecting my iPhoto to my PSE 11 Editor.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Surma

Thanks for your response, Barbara. Yes, I get to the panel on which "in Photoshop Elements Editor" is selected and highlighted. But it doesn't provide further options, telling me what I should do next to link up iPhoto to PSE 11 Editor. No "OK" or "Next" button. I'm stuck there! Thanks. Surma

Sorry, but I don't understand what the problem is. When you click that menu to expand it you should be able to choose any program as your external editor:

  • How does PSE 11 and iPhoto work together?

I am currently trialling PSE 11. I would prefer to keep iPhoto as my organiser while using PSE 11 as my editor. However, it appears that I have to create a separate PSE library meaning that the edits made in PSE will not be reflected in the iPhoto library.
Other than manually importing and exporting photos between the libraries is there a way round this?

You can change iPhoto prefs to show the PSE Editor application as the external editor. You will the get the choice when right-clicking on a thumbnail in the iPhoto Library - either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor.
The export copy will be created automatically and will show up in the iPhoto Library as a duplicate next to the original once you save in PSE after you finish editing. If you don’t want duplicates and are happy to replace (overwrite) your originals you can set up the PSE prefs to automatically save over original.

  • Is it possible to make clickable links in PSE 11?

    Hello!
I am hoping someone will be able to help me. I have created a project in PSE 11- it's meant to be a booklet, and I would like to add clickable links to the project, by way of live links, as well as making parts of the project clickable. The goal is to make it a Tumblr post, and save the multiple pages as an Adobe Acrobat pdf file.
My weak Google-fu tells me that I need to use the slicing tool, but I don't think that is available in Elements? Is there any way around this?
I would really appreciate any advice!
    Thank you

No, sorry. PSE is primarily a photo editor with limited text capabilities, meant more for putting captions on photos and that sort of thing. It is not really intended for use as a page layout program.

  • Using PSE 11 with iPhoto

A previous discussion recommended selecting "Save Over Current File"  in PSE Preferences to save PSE edited photos to iPhoto; should I check "Save As to Original Folder," or not?  I'm ending up with the original and the edited photo as two separate photos and would prefer to see only the edited photo with a "Revert to Original" option in iPhoto, rather than having to "hide" originals and look for them later.

In the iphoto preferences uncheck the box at Advanced -> Copy files to iPhoto Library Folder when Adding to Library.
Now whn you import the photos to the Library (File -> Import to Library) they originals will not be moved.

  • PSE 12 and IPHOTO

I;m new to photoshop all together. I have set PSE 12 as external editor in Iphoto. when I open image to edit the photo doesn't open. Can anyone help

Most likely you chose the logical file instead of the correct one. The actual PSE editor is buried way down in Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 12>support files. The file at the top level is an alias for the welcome screen:

  • Automatic link to photoshop element with iPhoto 7

    I just bought an iMacG5 to replace a iMacG4 and I have a question about iPhoto 7.
With iPhoto 5, I was able, by a double click on a photo to open Photoshop elements. This was an option in rhe preferences of iPhoto.
With iPhoto7, I have not the same option. I tried many questions in the iPhoto help, without any positive result.
Is it possible to get an automatic link to an external software, photoshop for instance, with iPhoto 7. If yes, how?
Thanks in advance for your help

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IMovie ´11 Problem linking existing prosject to moved iPhoto libery..

    Hello.
I ran low on storage space on my Mac Air and had to do something to continue working with my paraglidermovie.
I was not abel to move the the movies from " event libery" (from Macintosh HD) to the external drive (OSX-formated) to my new HDD. I had to do it another way. (This may be because the movies used in my prosject, was not organized in (new) happening.
So after moving the whole iphoto libery to the external drive, how do i link my existing project fil (with missing source signal on every tumbnail picture) to iPhoto-libery at the new external location?  (i was abel to link my iphoto to the remote libery, since the program asked if i wanted to create a new or use existing)
I have worked more then 30 hours on this movie, and would be very thankful if someone could give me a tips or two.
Is something unclear let me explain in another way...
The problem is linking the iMovie project to "external files" that i have allready used in my prosject.
    LJK75 :-)

    Thank you again.
You are correct, of course.  I do not have the media card that housed the .mts files. I had, perhaps errantly, thought that by dragging the entire contents of the media card to a hard drive that this would suffice. Clearly, something went wrong. I was able to have iMovie read the files, as I had used a 3rd party package to convert to .mp4. The issue was the size of the resulting files and their behaviour in iMovie. They were so bloated that I could not even skim over the clips in the editor window without a 1-2 second delay and even then, they would stutter.
I seem to now have my hands on a converter that is doing the job, although I am navigating through some audio to video sync issues.
I am very grateful for your time and expertise.
    Thank you

  • PSE 10 and iphoto on a mac

I have 2 partitions on my hard drive, one for snow leopard and one for lion. PSE
10 is loaded on the lion partition. When I went to 'get photos and videos' in
PSE organizer I clicked 'from iphoto' and somehow got it connected up with the
snow leopard iphoto library not the lion iphoto library. I need to redirect PSE
to the right lion iphoto folder but I can't find anyway to change the default
iphoto library it is connecting with. Anybody know how to fix? Thanks.
Oh while I am asking...Is there any way to make the text under the photos in the
organizer bigger for easier reading? I didn't see anything in the PSE
preferences that would make just the words bigger not the pictures. Thanks
    again.

My workflow is I use iphoto to import from my camera since it is ancient and is the only way I have been able to get photos off of it, I organize it into events. Then important them to photoshop elements from iphoto. I just got a nice new used mac and partitioned it to run both os, installed pse10 on the lion partition and then when I went to import from the iphoto library it offered me a choice but I'm just getting used to this glass trackpad and I think I accidently clicked the snow leopard library(as it makes a click without any action on my part when I just indecisively hover over a drop down of choices)...now it just grabs from that library and doesn't give me a choice.
No interesting screen shot to take as it isn't doing anything but importing the library, just the little normal proress bar just importing from the wrong folder.
No one knows how to make PSE give me the choice box back?...its not in the preferences...shouldn't it be in the preferences?

  • Upgraded to iPhoto 6 and lost link to images/photos in iPhoto Library

I just installed a 160 GB hard drive (70GB free) and iLife06 upgrade on iMc G5 with 768 MB. When I ran iPhoto it shows all original folders and rolls but thumbnails are blank and exclamation mark in edit mode and no images found. My iPhoto Library folder is in finder>picture and contains 6000 photos with original, data, modified, recovered and Library6.iPhoto folders among others. I have tried Apples recommended iPhoto Library rebuilding recommendations without success. I am trying to restore to original configuration to keep all past iDVD slides shows and videos active and working. I installed the larger hard drive and iLife because iLife04 iPhoto kept crashing when opening. I thought I needed more hard drive capacity and iLife06 advertised ability to handle greater number of photos. Please help, I have tried everything I found on discussions.

    CK:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. To see if the database file is readable use iPhoto Library Manager. If it can see the slideshows, rolls, etc. than there's a chance rebuilding the library with iPLM can save them. If iPLM cannot access the library then I'm afraid the dB file is damaged beyond recovery. If you have to start afresh here's a possible way you might be able to recover the keywords. Check in the library and see if clicking on a keyword will bring up, even though they are blank, a specific set of photos. If so then you can try to follow Tutorial #1 to write the keywords back to the actual original files. Then do the following:
1 - move the old iPhoto Library folder to the desktop.
2 - launch iPhoto and create a new library.
3 - drag the "Originals" folder from the old library folder into iPhoto's open window.
This will generate a new library with the same rolls as were in the old library. Some of the roll dates may be changed however. The keywords will be retained if Tutorial #1 worked.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against future iPhoto database corruption that you and many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. • Keeps trying to link to mobileme and freezes iphoto

anyone have iphoto keep trying to "publish albums to mobileme"?

My iPhoto freezes when I open preferences. Is there another way around eliminating MobileMe? Maybe through deleting files in Library? System preferences won't let me log into MobileMe either so I can get into the sync section to deselect iPhoto. Any suggestions?

  • From PSE (PC) to iPhoto - several questions

I've looked for answers for these questions, which are kind of interconnected, but not found what I'm after. Have also tried a few things with smaller folders of pictures. Hope someone can help.
    _Copy items into library?_
I want to use iPhoto organise and import photos, but use PS Elements 8 to edit them (and have set this up as an external editor from iPhoto). Given this, is my best bet to copy photos into the library, rather than use a referenced library (if I've got the terminology right)?
_Folders of pictures - do I still need them?_
When previously importing photos from a camera to PSE6 (PC), I stored each 'event' in a different folder. These folders were transferred to my Mac and put in the 'Pictures' folder in the Finder. When I import them into iPhoto, it looks like the 'iPhoto library' file has made copies of the photos and arranged them in its own event-based folder structure, in the 'Originals' folder (I've checked the 'Copy Items Into iPhoto Library' option mentioned above). Given that this has happened, do I still need to keep the folders for any reason other than as back-up? I get the impression that when I next import new photos, they'll go straight into that iPhoto library, rather than sitting in a file folder next to it - is this right? Is absolutely everything I need in that iPhoto library file?
_If I want to leave iPhoto..._
As above, my photo collection is currently arranged in folders. If I switch to iPhoto, won't each of my albums/events be split across 'Originals' and 'Modified'? Won't this make it very difficult to re-create a tidy photo collection in a different piece of software at some point in the future? Is this a decent enough reason to not use iPhoto?
    _And lastly, Adobe Bridge_
Which came with PSE8. Is there much use for this if I'm using iPhoto+PSE8? Just checking I'm not missing a trick.
    Thanks in advance!

  • PSE 9 and iPhoto

I'm using Photoshop Elements 9 as my external editor for iPhoto.  When I try to import photos to edit I can only import 4 at a time.  Has anybody else had that problem?  It's not the end of the world but sometimes it's a pain.

Four is the maximum you can send to an external editor at a time. I suspect it's to protect folks who might not realise what they have selected from inadvertantly sending 400 at one go.

  • PSE 12 Organizer: iPhoto import creates an 'Abobe/Organizer/iPhoto Library Media' folder but I see nothing in the tool after it completes the import task.

I have run the import several times and get a huge folder from the 29K plus images and video in iPhoto but then nothing shows in the organizer tool.

Let me add to this list a number of issues that seem to be widespread with respect to the sync engine:
Sync engine does not recognize existing content on install of PSE7 if it's an upgrade from a previous version.  Changed photos get sync'd, but you have to make a change to everything to get it all picked up by the engine.
Sync stalls regularly.  No indication is given to the user that sync is no longer progressing (double green arrows remain).  However, the sync process stops consuming CPU and stops communicating with API.PHOTOSHOP.COM (both verifyable using resource manager).
Sync is extreemly slow.  The upload times are an order of magnitude longer than my available bandwidth would permit.  This appears to be due to the excessive handshaking necessary for each individual upload (no bulk transfer implemented).
Not necessarily a bug, but the lack of status information about the sync progress is dismal.
Let's hope the PSE7 team is as receptive to user help in troubleshooting as the PS.COM team turned out to be...

  • Some of my photos have a disconnected link after being cropped on iPhoto

I am an editor of a art/lit magazine. We take pictures of the art work, upload them to iPhoto, crop/edit them, and then move them into Indesign. Most of the pictures work when we do that, but for five of them, it doesn't. We upload those, crop them, and then when we go back to the picture, it just turns black when we try to do anything with it. We've tried to retake the pictures, but each time the same thing keeps happening after we edit it. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this, or if we are doing something wrong. It only does it for certain pictures of the same artwork, so we have no idea what is wrong.
    *PLEASE HELP:)*

    Reply to Terence Devlin:
There really is not anything different with the pictures. We will take a picture of the same piece of art mulitple times, and all the pictures of the same piece of art work don't work.
It only messes up after we crop it.
We tried the backup and rebuild, but it didn't work.
    Thank you though!
