Links behaving badly

I have set my links to this one page to do the same things my
other pages do, but they do not take on the color attributes I have
given them under Page Properties
http://www.gs-productions.org/options.html
I want the link to turn yellow when it is touched and to
underline like it has been set to. I haven't had problems under any
of my main pages doing this, just some ones I have added since.
What am I missing?
Thanks.

Change the order of your link rules from:
a:link {
a:active {
a:hover {
a:visited {
to
a:link {
a:visited {
a:hover {
a:active {

  • Visited links behaving badly in IE8

    I have tested my site in many browsers and the links all appear as they are supposed to in all browsers, Mac and PC, except IE8 (surprise, surprise!). Even IE7 is OK. In IE8 only, my visited image links are all showing the underline style border-bottom-style: dotted; I set for the text links, despite my having only set those on specific divs containing the text. I have tried all sorts of other things: img {    border-style: none; }; and adding individual border-bottom-style: none; class style to the images. My css was becoming a mess so I took out all the link styles and started again. But still can't solve it (and my css has become a bit of a mess again, in an attempt to find a solution... so please don't shout at me!).  It's probably something very obvious but I've been looking at this for weeks and I'm tearing my hair out. Can someone help please? Here is a link to a page in my test site which displays the problem in IE8. The 'portfolio' link at the top of the page and the snail image should not have an underline when visited (or at all). http://www.cornucopia-design.co.uk/tablettest/cornucopia_meaning.html .
    I'm on a Mac so it's a pain to have to reboot into Windows every time I want to check whether something I have tried with the css works. I've started using BrowserLabs but can't find out how to display a visited link. I'm using DWCS5.5 .
    Any help would be greatly appreciated before I have a nervous breakdown! Thanks

    Thank you for your suggestion Jtanna. You too, Murray. I realise I hadn't actually tested the links in IE9, (only the pages in BrowserLabs) so hadn't thought that it might well be showing in that too (I thought IE9 was supposed to have been a great improvement on previous versions).
    I tried what you both suggested. Still the problem persists. I first put these two styles (which I realise are doing a similar job) near the top of my cascade, and when it didn't work then thought maybe I'd try them last on the list. But still those pesky underlines appear on my images in IE8/9. The frustrating thing is that every time I try something, I have to reboot my Mac in Windows mode to see the effects which takes so long (and I'm not going to line Microsoft's pockets by buying a PC just so I can sort out faults with their software!).
    As I said earlier, my text link styles are only applied to specific divs as I thought that would stop them being applied globally. I'm sure something must be clashing or in the wrong order but I'm just too inexperienced to work out what it might be. I have literally been puzzling over this for weeks (on and off) and it is driving me insane. Especially when I suspect there is a simple solution staring me in the face. So any further help would be really appreciated. I know my css is getting to be a bit of a mess in the main pages as this example http://www.cornucopia-design.co.uk/tablettest/cornucopia_meaning.html, for which I apologise but there is another much simpler page which might be easier to fathom which uses a different stylesheet: http://www.cornucopia-design.co.uk/tablettest/drawing_services.html.
    Many thanks, in hope!

  • Mouse/cursor behaving badly

    Seems to have started recently, maybe with OS software update? My mouse is behaving badly as in it can't seem to capture open Mail windows to rearrange them on my screen - often takes 3 or 4 attemtps to "catch" the window. Also, can't rearrange stacked layers in palettes in Adobe CS4 programs, keeps wanting to bring up dialog boxes for layers instead. Have changed batteries in mouse (Logitech optical wireless) and changed mouse preferences, but seems to be getting worse. Any ideas? Could mouse be getting old? Have had it for quite a few years. Am working on a Mac 2x2.4GHzQuad-CoreIntelXeon, Mac OS 10.6.8.

    Bluetooth is turned off. The 'wireless' is a direct wireless and not through the Airport. When I turn Airport on, there are three other networks visible but they are all locked.
    But, given your suggestion about the mouse, I just tried the mouse on my laptop - AND IT'S THE MOUSE!! Same behaviour repeated on the laptop...
    Thanks. Time to go get a new mouse and lay this one to rest.

  • With or without add-ons, and after removing/reloading Firefox, some sites behave badly, though they're fine with Internet Explorer.

    The computer in question is running Vista. With Firefox 8, some websites, e.g. Whitepages.com, livefreept.com, behave badly. Spedifically, they require the user to click on tabs. But the tabs don't appear at all. I upgraded to Firefox 10, to no effect. The sites work fine on this same computer with Internet Explorer, and on both our XP and Windows 7 computers using older older versions of Firefox. All three are using the same Norton Internet Security program, with the same settings. Starting in safe mode, with no add-ons has no effect. Help!

  • Link Tool behaving badly

    My link tool has started to behave differently than before. It has lost it's "fluididty", meaning, it won't draw the box where I want it. It behaves as if it is snapping to a guide or a hidden set point and not exactly where I want the link field to be. I'm working in OS X 10.4.11, Acrobat Pro 9.4.0 that contains the plug-in Enfocus Pitstop version 9 update 3 build 97005. It was working fine the last time I used it about two weeks ago. Any clues towards a fix will be greatly appreciated!

  • Widgets Behaving badly on Leopard

    Upgraded MacBook Pro to Leopard, and everything seems good except my dashboard widgets. "Say Cheese" displays part of its border shifted down too far and part of it transparent. "rpncalc" is completely transparent except for the buttons, which are in the wrong location and some of them are clipped. Sudoku widget displays OK, but each key must be pressed twice to take effect.
    I tried removing the preferences files for the widgets, and moving them to trash and reinstalling, but same results. Same widgets work fine on my 13" Macbook.

    Is it only some widgets that have this problem? And are they Apple widgets or 3rd party widgets?
    I would suspect that they are 3rd party, not Apple, and the problem is hardware related, but not your problem - the widgets are not fully compliant with your MBP.
    If you post a link to one of those bad widgets I will see what it does on this box. It's a Santa Rosa 3,1 from late last year. 64 bit, of course and completely up to date.

  • Buttons behaving badly

    Hello,
    I'm seeing some weird "ghosting" or "artifacts" -- not sure what to call it -- from some buttons in my PDF in Acrobat 9.
    I created a hidden navigation bar. When activated, a few of the buttons remain on screen after I click a button in the nav bar. When I mouse over these buttons, they are "live."
    On other pages, the buttons work fine. I click one, it takes me to a new page, and they disappear.
    I created the nav bar in InDesign CS5 and exported to interactive PDF.
    Any idea what could be going on?
    thanks

    Hi there
    You have Button objects in Captivate and you have Rollover Slidelet objects in Captivate. Each has a different purpose.
    With Buttons, you program each one with an action and when the user clicks, the action is carried out. While it's the default nature of a Button object to pause the slide until the user clicks, clicking the Button will also release the pause and allow the playhead to continue.
    With Rollover Slidelets, you have sort of a "Slide within a slide" (hence the term "slidelet"). These may appear when moused over and will disappear when mousing off. OR, you may configure them to remain on the slide for their timed duration when you click. It all depends on what you want it to do.
    The bottom line here is that you really need to think through what you want to accomplish. Then choose the objects and construct the slides so they behave as you want.

  • ITunes 8 behaves badly on second monitor

    Strange problem that I have noticed on my MacPro 2.66. I have two 22" LCDs running on my MacPro with 4GB of RAM and 10.5.5. If I try move the iTunes window on right LCD by grabbing the header bar and dragging the screen will freeze for about 30 seconds. The window will eventually move but the screen will not redraw. If I move the iTunes window to the other LCD it works fine. This only affects iTunes not any other panels on the right LCD. Quitting iTunes and restarting doesn't solve the problem. I did rebuild permissions after I upgraded to 10.5.5.
    Can I just restore iTunes 7 from my Time Machine back-up?

    kinu wrote:No way with Twinview (or I don't know how to do it). I will try with xrandr.
    Yeah, seems to be a limitation of the Nvidia GUI, but it seems that it's possible [and necessary] to configure it with Xorg's configuration files if you want more freedom to position your monitors.
    Since some extra configuration is needed with the Nvidia driver, xrandr alone might not be ideal in your situation. [I mentioned it before since I never needed to mess with my Xorg configuration, and an .xprofile script based around xrandr works better with my Intel-based laptop. ]
    Xorg's config files seem like a better choice for you, and if you need to change monitor layouts on the fly, xrandr should still work once you have a good Xorg configuration. If you choose to go this route, you'll probably find this section of the Xorg wiki page very useful: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#Nvidia_2
    Since you'd need to specify a position for your second monitor to workaround this, you'd need to use a line like this, instead of the "RightOf" one in the example configuration: ' Screen       1 "Screen1" x y ' where x,y is the location of the upper left corner of that display.
    [If a configuration file already exists, make sure you create a backup of it first. Worst-case scenario, a bad config file will prevent X from starting, and you could just restore the backup from the command-line.]
    I also discovered that offsetting it by the exact height of your panel seems to cause problems on your primary monitor [at least with the latest version of the XFCE panel]. Upon rebooting, windows would not respect my panels, and instead would go underneath them when maximized. Although, by offsetting my second monitor by a little more [1920x280 instead of 1920x284], both monitors allow windows to maximize correctly, so if you run into the same problem, something like that should fix it.

  • Report behaving badly ... Can anyone help?

    Post Author: OzyatHome
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    I am relatively new to Crystal Reporting, but have been using it more and more over the past 3-4 months. I have just encountered a problem that I simply cannot resolve - any help would be greatly appreciated ... I have basically written a report with 3 groups; Year, Activity, Program where all group headings and footers are hidden apart from the group footer for group 3 - Program. It worked well reporting all Programs in the database for the selected Years and Activity types. The database structure behind this report was straight forward as  all details being reported at Program level came from just 2 tables (Activity and Program). An Activity table entry holding the Year for each activity and a link to the 1 or more Programs that make up each activity. The reported consists of one line per Program, all details reported being sourced from either the Program table entry or its Activity parent table entry. I was then asked to also report the Tutor Name for each Program. All Tutor Names being held on a Staff table linked to each program by the Tutors Reference "once allocated", BUT until Tutors are allocated to a Program there is no Tutor Reference on the Program table to link from the Program table entry to the Staff table. I therefore added a 4th group, that being Tutor Names for which I suppressed everything, simply adding a new summary to my single detail line at Program level, namely a distinct count of Tutor Names which I then intended to check to see if  a Tutor existed or not before setting a formula field to the  Staff table's Tutor Name for reporting. I didn't however get that far as the results after simply adding the new summary count were not as I expected. Whereas before the change all programs to which no Tutors had yet to be assigned were being reported OK, post the above change only Programs reporting a distinct count of Tutor Names greater than zero were reported! I cannot see why this should be? Any pointers or help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks .. Kev

    There are several tables involved, but to simplify the issue I have only mentioned the 3 that are relevant to this problem. There is no common link between the tables. I defined the links between the 3 in question as follows:- Activity links to Program on 2 common key fields and Program links to Staff on 2 different common keys. I defined the links manually after adding the tables to the report.  The tables part of an off the shelf system that runs under Windows 2000, They are relational tables, but a re not Access tables, so I have to link to them via the ODBC layer. The relationship between the tables are as follows:- Activity will always link to one or more Program. Programs will only link to a Staff table entry (where Tutor Name is held) when a Tutor has been allocated to the Program and the Tutor Reference field on the Program table has been populated. Once populated the Tutor Reference will always have a matching entry on the Staff table. The summary of Tutor Names that I set up as a distinct count looks to be being reset automatically (how do you manually reset such counts on change of group?), but programs that were being reported before I added the 4th group that have no Tutor allocated to them are no longer being reported. I expected them to be reported still with a distinct count of Tutor Names being zero. Does that clarify the issue? Many thanks for your help.  Kevin

  • Safari 3 Leapard behaving badly

    hello
    I am somewhat old on PCs but new to APPLE so please bare with me. I just have my first Apple Imac and used to love it. Installed Leapard without a glitch, so I thought.
    Problem: I have Safari 3 open and Mail open and when I click on certain links in my mail Safari 3 jumps about the screen. Its annoying, is it just a apple bug thing or can it be fixed. Called Apple and according to one rude dude there's not a problem. is anyone else out there having the same problem. PREFERENCES is already set to open a new tab instead of default open to a window. Other than that I dont know what to do to calm this safari down.
    please help with suggestions to [email protected] just in case I cant remember how I got to this forum
    thanks so much
    mk

    Go into your *System Preferences* and check your *mouse button settings*. It may be that you are accidentally pushing a button that is set to activate Expose or something? I know the side buttons are a problem for me. Come to think of it I think the track ball is set to Expose by default and that gave me problems. If thats what it is I would just turn off whatever button it is that is giving you the problem.
    _System Preferences_ should be in your Dock but if not go to your _Applications folder_ and you will find it there.
    The other possibility is that you are simply clicking on links and it is opening them in the browser. Also if you have Safari set to a different space in Spaces it will jump to the other desktop. To check that go to Spaces in the Dock or open _System Preferences_ and go to _Expose & Spaces_ and click on the _Spaces button at the top_ to set your apps to be in the same space or to disable Spaces.

  • Do you an extension or add-on for Firefox that can check an email link on a webpage, or if that email link is bad, make a suggestion for a good email link

    I need a way to check the email on various websites contacts pages. If that email is undeliverable, could a correct email address be found ?

    Is there anything that can scan an email link to see if that is good or find the correct email address for a website ? Maybe a program where you paste the main URL in it and it scans for all emails ?
    Thanks
