Have you used pacman yet?  Ever?
Do read about the different types of dependencies mentioned in the previous post - but more globally, read about pacman: it handles dependency resolution just fine.  If you try to install a package that depends on other packages, pacman will install the dependencies as well.

  • OWB 10g -- Can't Create Database Links for Data Source and Target

    We installed OWB 10g server components on a Unix box running Oracle 10g (R2) database. The Designer Repository is in one instance. The Runtime Repository and the Target are in another instance. The OWB client component was installed on Windows XP. We create a data source module and a target module in OWB. The data source is on another Unix box running Oracle 9i (R2) database. We try to create database links for data source module and target module, respective. But when we created and tested the DB links, the DB links were failed.
    For the database link of data source, we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.
    SQL Exception
    Repository Error:SQL Exception..
    Class Name: CacheMediator.
    Method Name: getDDEntryFromDB.
    Repository Error Message: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
    For the database link of target , we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.
    API2215: Cannot create database link. Please contact Oracle Support with the stack trace and the details on how to reproduce it.
    Repository Error:SQL Exception..
    Class Name: oracle.wh.ui.integrator.common.RepositoryUtils.
    Method Name: createDBLink(String, String, String, String).
    Method Name: -1.
    Repository Error Message: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
    However, we could connect to the two databases (data source and target) using the OWB’s utility SQL Plus.
    Please help us to solve this problem. Thank you.

    As I said prior the database link creation should work from within the OWB client (also in 10).
    Regarding your issue when deploying, have you registered your target locations in the deployment manager and did you first deployed your target location's connector which points out to your source?
    I myself had some problems with database link creations in the past and I can't remember exactly what they were but it had something to do with
    - the use of abnormal characters in the database link name
    - long domain name used in as names.default_domain in my sqlnet.ora file
    What you can do is check the actual script created when deploying the database link so see if there's something strange and check if executing the created script manually works or not.

  • Yoga 13: any chance for open source Synaptics touchpad driver or touchpad API?

    The Yoga is my 1st Windows machine in years. Coming from various MacBook(s) Pro(s) I dearly miss the capabilities and configurability of Apple's multitouch touchpad. While responsibility of the Synaptics device is fairly decent I haven't found an experience that is anything close to the one perceived on the MacBook touchpad. Latter in combination with BetterTouchTool is my weapon of choice when it comes to productivity. It offers almost unlimited configurability, that is, I can design/configure any gesture I desire and link it to a keystroke for instance. It's just perfect since I am not into Apple's predefined gesture settings at all.
    Now I have spent endless hours in getting this back on my new Yoga. At least I am now able to use 3 finger swipes for back/forward navigation. However, this is just a fraction of what I need/want. That's why I am looking for a way to either be able to modify the driver myself (open source, Lenovo/Synaptics?) or get access to an API I can build on. Obviously I'd prefer latter option. Synaptics is touting their Gesture Suite but I cannot find a download somewhere. I'm afraid it's OEM only. And if that's the config app that comes with the standard Synaptics driver it's just pathetic.
    So does anyone have a clue on how we can significantly improve the performance of this otherwise very nice laptop?
    Thanks in advance,
    stfn

    just wanted to say that I open-sourced the work I completed on the project:

  • Web Dynpro for Open Source

    Dear Web Dynpro community,
    please have a look to Benny´s  blog under http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs;jsessionid=(J2EE3417200ID0731044050DB00226095944409325288End?blog=/pub/wlg/16004 raising the question whether Web Dynpro Java should become Open Source.
    It would be very interesting for me to here your opinion about this. What are the benefits in doing this? What are the risks? Would YOU like to actively contribute?
    Thanks in advance
    Jochen (Product Owner Web Dynpro Java)

    Hi all,
    <p>
    let me add some comments on some parts of the answers (also in the two blogs around this topic ..).
    In general it is really interesting to see that there seems to be a real interest for an "open sources" Web Dynpro for Java. This is motivating to go into this direction and to further discuss this here within SAP.
    <p>
    Some technical comments: I agree that an open-source WDJ (in the ideal world) would include also the WDJ tools parts and most probably also UR ( = Unified rendering) as the underlying (HTML) rendering technology. Also NWDI is somehow part of this game. BUT: I do not think that such a big step is realistic and feasible. Instead of this the first natural step for me would be to open-source the WDJ runtime part. This WDJ runtime contains all important parts needed to run WDJ applications (including the control libraries, the different CMI model implementations, the different clients and last but not least the server-abstraction layer).
    <p>
    This server abstraction layer (SAL) is most probably not know by the WDJ community as this was never rolled out in the past. As the name shows this layer encapsulates the server environment "hosting" the WDJ runtime. This allows us even today to run WDJ applications besides the SAP JEE  also in top of a simple TomCat installation. This version is used for a long time for control development but was never rolled out.
    <p>
    In the labs we have WDJ application running on Amazon Cloud, on Google App Engine, on Bea and also on top of Geronimo.
    Not all of these server abstraction implementations are fully working for the moment and not all features are available for all implementations - but it would be really straightforward to provide all these implementations - in the ideal case of course via a active open source community ,-)
    <p>
    Besides the platform implementations I see some other areas how an open sourced version of WDJ could be extended:
    <p>
    The combination of WDJ projects with Maven. This is also on our internal development list but due to prios this was never started.
    New controls. Also without open-sourcing the UR layer I see a lot of potential to extend existing controls or to build completly new controls.
    "Generation-free WDJ" - the idea would be to provide a WDJ version which is not depending on a complex generation framework. This would be of course one option but a "generation-free" WDJ would allow you to code your WDJ apps / components completly without any generation.
    Extending the usage scenarios for "system components" - this kind of WD components is used to extend WDJ runtime capabilities. Currently this is only used for the "Technical Info" and the UI of the implicit personalization but there is a lot of potential to extend this.
    <p>
    This is only a very short list of things I have currently in mind - for sure you will find more.
    <p>
    Have fun at TechEd Phoenix
    Best regards
    Jochen

  • Petition for Open Sourced Firmw

    Well, I've looked over the board and I've found a lot of requests for many different features. Many of these features could be quickly fixed by a firmware modication.
    There is a massi've community of programmers who would love to modify the firmware to the Creative line of MP3 players. Just look at the iPod's community. There are hundreds of hundreds of people who have spent hours working with the iPod just to hack some of the graphics. If Creative Labs were to open the source to one of their players, one can only imagine how much it would be improved upon. The mere number of people who would switch to that player just because they can reprogram it would be astounding!
    So we, the signed, request the source to the firmware of the Zen MP3 player line up be released to the community, and a license be given accordingly to allow us to share our modifications with other owners of the product.

    Open source? Shhh, you can't say that word in the forum of a multi-national, million dollar company. Don't be ridiculous. If the firmware go open source, who will pay for the customer support if something goes wrong? The last thing any company wants to do is to pay for customer support. The money can be saved for more important things, like colorful boxes.

  • Looking for open source project in JSF for learning

    Hi,
    I am quite a beginner to JSF, I think it will be good to read some existing source code, could anyone recommend some projects that I can turn to? I am particual interested in an online text editor.
    I think currently I could understand how the jsf works, its relationship with jsp, html, css,and how It could cooperate with AJAX. and I have written a small amount of web pages , which were aimed at providing a blog-publish like service. That's why I am interested in online text editor. But any other capable project would be also helpful for me.
    Thanks.

    You can find (simple) samples here:

    [http://www.coreservlets.com/JSF-Tutorial/]
    You can find a HTML/rich text editor as JSF component in the Mojarra Scales component library: [https://scales.dev.java.net/htmlEditor.html].

  • [Now in AUR!] S3TC libraries for open source Xorg drivers

    Due to the typical retarded patent issues, S3TC support can't be packaged with Mesa or the Xorg drivers; instead, it's a separate set of libraries, available here, which probably cannot be distributed as a binary. It looks easy enough to install manually, but it would be nice if someone could maintain a PKGBUILD so users could let pacman keep track of it.
    (Apologies if the libraries turn out to be illegal in the US or Canada; I had nothing to do with the software patent silliness.)
    Edit: Forget the request, this doesn't look as bad as I thought... As soon as I'm certain it's working, I'll make a PKGBUILD and upload it.
    Last edited by Gullible Jones (2008-03-08 06:39:25)

    FWIW it looks like binary distribution may not be such a huge problem, there's a binary package of this available for Debian. I would certainly like to see it as a binary, but let's not be hasty.
    Anyway, I've uploaded the PKGBUILD. If you're using an Intel chipset, or a Radeon chipset with the OSS driver, and you have installed this and want to know if it's working, do this:
    gxlinfo | grep -i s3tc
    Obviously, feel free to report any problems.
    Edit: here's the PKGBUILD.

  • Looking for open source Reverse proxy

A reverse proxy will pass those through no problems unless it has the ability to check those as well.A reverse proxy is fine as a caching device but I wouldn't really call it a security device. It's still best to harden every step in the external facing chain and to sanitise the inputs.

  • Good site for Video Editing tools (open source)

    I'm a recent convert to Mac, and I'm having a hard time finding comparable tools to what is available via open source on the Windows side. Specifially in the H.264 arena. There are a multitude of open source encoding tools for Windows. I'm sure there have to be some for Mac. Are there any good sites that list these? I'm tried versiontracker and The Mac Orchard, but I'm hoping for something more specific like VideoHelp.com
    Any suggestions? I'm looking for encoding software that can do inverse telecine, import DivX/Xvid/DV, Trim video (to remove letterboxing), and encode to H.264.
    Thanks!

  • Compiling open source programs for multiple machines...

    I am compiling the current version of RSYNC for my system, which requires that I have Xcode installed.  How can I make a package....or convert the package that I am creating on my system, so that I can install it on another system...without Xcode?

    If you build the program as a statically linked binary, you can move it to any other compatible machine.  Even with dynamic linking, it should work as long as other libraries it depends on are available in the target machine.  For open source programs, the easiest way may be to use the --prefix option (if it is configure based) and move the entire target directory tree to another machine.

  • Working on Open Source Projects for N00b programmers

    Hi,
    I have heard the suggestion on the forum that working on open source projects_ is a good way to refine your programming skill.
    I am learning Object Oriented Programming concepts in my Java class. I have found that I am not getting as much practical experience* as I feel I need to really cement the concepts in practice, and to cement the concepts in my brain. I read the book a lot, and I get a lot of the theory, and I can make sense of all the book's code examples, but I feel like I need to start doing hands on code manipulation and/or problem solving to make these things stick in my brain.
    Finally, I am genuinely a n00b, so even though I get all the concepts of OOP on a high level, I only have done pedagogical exercises, not any real practical experience. So I am looking for Open Source projects who's code isn't super intricate and will be manageable to decipher, based on my limited experience.
    Also, if the projects are on cool interesting things like Open Office or Audacity or Mozilla Firefox or Miscellaneous Widgets (the kinds of things we use in everyday computer use, I know this varies from person to person, but anyway...) or Scientific/Mathematical Simulations etc, all those sorts of things would be cool.
    Thanks a bunch
