Links in excel don't work once uploaded to dropbox

Hi,
I am busy creating an excel document that has various link to documents in other folders on my computer. I would like to share this so others in my department can use it as well (via dropbox) but once I have uploaded the original document to dropbox (with
all the other folders containing the documents that the links point to) then when I click on the links in the excel document they cannot find the files. I have tried everything in trying to solve this. I was hoping editing it in my dropbox folder on my computer
would solve the problem as surely it should sync it automatically? Nothing works!

Hi,
As far as I know, Office uses relative address than absolute address by default.
When a file is uploaded, the "convert to relative" feature changes hyperlinks to relative links when the file is saved.
Is your Office version 2003?
To use this hotfix, follow these steps:
1. Quit Office.
2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate and then click to select the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common
4. After you select the key that is specified in step 3, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
5. Type UseCaseInsensitivePathForHyperlink, and then press ENTER.
6. Right-click UseCaseInsensitivePathForHyperlink, and then click Modify.
7. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
8. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
Notice: Please backup the registry.

Movie not working once uploaded

Hello
I've created a couple of little flash movies (for the first time) showing figures merging into one another. I imported the movies into Dreamweaver and when I tested them in my browser, they worked fine.
However, now that I've uploaded all the pages/files for my client to look at, the movies don't work. Infact in one case it doesn't even appear.
Can anyone help?

no swf embedding code is in your 2nd link so you wouldn't expect a swf to be present.
i don't see a problem with the 1st link.

Links into OTN don't work

Links from outside sources (specifically, Google) to areas of OTN don't work. For example, a search produced results for http://otn.oracle.com/products/iportal/files/pdkdec/jpdk/release.notes.html , but the page doesn't have the content... only the OTN navigational elements. And, of course, it's nearly impossible to find anything from within OTN. Truly frustrating....

Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Then try email links.
No data is lost due to a reset.

Links to samples don't work

The links the samples on the http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/files/9i_sqlj/sqlj9i.html page don't work!
Could someone from Oracle fix them?

Links in PDFs don't work on mobile device

A text linked to a page in the same document works fine when clicked on in the PC. But when tapped on in an Android device, the link does not work. Any ideas why this is so, and a workaround?

If you use the MS add on for saving to PDF you might get the links. I use a PC, but as I understand it the PDF Maker that adds the links does not work on the MAC and never has. One MAC user (Phillip Jones) typically drops by and provides some insight into methods for getting the links, but I don't remember the solution (probably because I did not totally understand the solution as a PC user).

Hyperlinks in linked Word documents don't work

I'm having a problem with hyperlinks and I'm hoping you can help me. I have a RoboHelp HTML 8 project built out of Word 2007 linked files. There's a dozen Word files right now, but I'm hoping to scale up the project eventually. Each file is a topic in the CHM.
I have two problems when I generate the CHM:
1. Links to anchors within the same Word document generate extra subtopic files. Each extra topic begins at the anchor point. The links work, but I'd like to avoid having extra topics cluttering the TOC.
2. Links to anchors in other Word documents don't work at all. When I examine the HTML in Robohelp, I can see that RoboHelp has generated an empty link. When I link to a Word document without specifying an anchor point, the link in the CHM is to the document itself and not the topic, which is useless for my purposes.
For example, the generated HTML for each of these types of links looks like this:
<p>Link test: <a href="#_Using_Styles">Later in the same topic.</a></p> <== This one works, but generates an extra subtopic
<p>Link test: <a href="" target="_self">To another topic.</a></p> <== This one doesn't work at all.
Before you ask, yes, I have checked the "Convert References to Hyperlinks" box in the RoboHelp Word conversion settings. According to Adobe documentation, that's all I need to do... So what am I doing wrong?

I have an update: Adobe got back to me and confirmed that the inter-document/inter-topic link issue is an actual RH
bug. I'll check back in here when I have more news.

Links in TextField don't work on Nokia devices?

Looks like links not work in flash TextField.

None of these syntax is not working in swf and swf packed to wrt widget. Tested on Nokia 5800 and 5530 (both Flash Lite 3.1 player). But there is written in Flash Lite manual that tag <a> mast work in flash lite 3.1 player : "Text as links The <a> tag is used to create a hypertext link and is now supported in Flash Lite 3.1. See the Flash Lite documentation for complete information about the <a> tag’s attributes and usage." Links in PDF don't work on Mac conversion?

I am working with Word 2011 on a Mac.
My document has linked TOC and many internal links and cross references.
When I convert to PDF, NONE of the work, whether I use "Save As PDF," Distiller, or Acrobat XI Pro...
Is this a known limitation?
Is there ANY workaround?
Or is Windows my only option to make the links in my PDF work the same as in my Word document?

Links to URLs don't work in published file - Captivate 4

In Captivate 4, my links to URLs do not work in my published file. I am rolling this out via email to a small number of people.

Likely you will need to ask each user to configure their list of Trusted Locations for the Flash Player to allow your Captivate to operate the URLs.

PDF and MSWord links don't work once published

Help,
I have created a four module course and published it using aggregate, it looks great except none of the links to the pdf or msword docs work. I have tried several suggestions, but nothing works when the course is launched on another computer. I get a path error when you click on the link.
Anyone have a helpful suggestion on how to get these to work.
One other note, when I go to publish the document Adobe tells me that I need to export the files...any idea how?

Adobe Captivate will show this warning message about needing to export the files any time that it detects you have linked to another file or document that is not one of those it normally exports automatically at publish time. It's really just reminding you that it's YOUR job to ensure that the files you are linking to are going to be in the right place when the published content is accessed by end users.
The best option is just to manually copy the files (in your case PDF etc) into the same publish folder location as the HTM and SWF files that Captivate creates. Then all you need to use as a relative file path is the name of the file itself.
One thing to check as to why the links are not working is that you have Flash Global Security set up to trust the publish folder location. Alternatively, upload your content to a web server and view it via a HTTP URL link. That usually means that Flash Global Security won't be an issue.

Links in template don't work in the children

I have created a template in CS4 with graphic roll over links. I have made six pages from this template and then gone back to the template to connect the links in the menu bar. Why don't the links work on the six pages in a browser?

It sounds as if the updated files were not uploaded to the server.
Or perhaps the links were not properly propagated from the Template file to the child pages:
Re-open your template file and remake the links by using the browse to file method (in the Properties Inspector). If your graphic rollovers use javascript, you may need to reapply the javascript. Don't try to type in the paths for the links; the Template has its own methods for sorting out what the links need to be on child pages.
Save the file. Click "yes" when the dialog box asks if you want to update files that depend on the template.
Any of those files that are open at the time you do this will have to be saved again (Save All). Those that are not opened will be updated in the background.
Upload ("Put") all the updated files to your server.

Hyperlinks don't work once site is published

I have set up some text hyperlinks in my site - www.fullabullies.com. If you go to the site, you'll see on the home page the purple star that says "puppies". this should bring you to the "litters" page. I also have the red star that says "akc bulldog standard" that should bring you to the american kennel club definition of a bulldog (an external page). Also, if you look on the "ladies & gents" page & go to Otis's bio - his red "pedigree" star should open up a .pdf file that has his pedigree. None of these links work. They work just fine in iweb, but not once teh site is published. I don't know what I"m doing wrong. I've even made it to where the entire graphic is a hyperlink, not just the text in the graphic. All teh other links seem to be working just fine. Help!

Both of those links work for me in Firefox 3 on a Mac, but the Bulldog club of Louisiana does not work.
In Safari, the links you mention work, as does the Bulldog Club of Loisiana

Hyperlinks not working once uploaded when they are set up in iweb

Hi there
I have spent hours trying to crack this. I have designed my new website in iweb09 and triple checked all my hyperlinks are set up which they are. However, when I upload the site to my FTP via Cyberduck only a few of them work. I have also tried to preview it on a PC where more seem to work.
How can I resolve this problem its driving me crazy. I'd appreciate any advice you lot have on this.
My site address is www.sevendaysdesign.co.uk you will see its currently sitting like one flat image but some of these links on the home page have worked on previous uploads but I have never got them all working.

An iWeb page has 4 layers :
1. A Navigation layer
2. A Header layer
3. A Body layer
4. A Footer layer.
The names tell you what their purpose is.
The layers have z-index numbers.
I don't know how you managed it, but it appears that all your content is in the nav-layer.
And the Body layer is blocking the top part.
The Footer layer, which is below the Body-layer, covers the bottom part of the nav-layer.
Do Command-Shift-L to see it.
Put content where it belongs. And make sure nothing covers other content.

Video Freezes in Firefox. Also links from email don't work(404) (same link works in chrome)

Most videos freeze after 5-15 seconds if the mouse is not hovering (and moving) in the video window.
Also many sort URL links from email (Open in new Tab) fail with 404 error. Videos don't freeze and same links work fine in Chrome.
Searched problem using Google and followed several pieces of advice -- same problem.
Removed all add-ons and extensions - same problem.
Removed Firefox 24, Reinstalled using latest version 25 (import nothing) -- same problem
Replaced Firefox with version 22 and it seems to be working fine.

Links to browser don't work

Url links in my wife's email program fail to pull up relevant pages in Firefox. Just sit there and do nothing.
History. Started three or four months ago. Solution was to restart the computer. The links would then work for four or five clicks but stop after that.
Because of other problems with her computer, we bought her a new iMac, the 27inch model. Forget the precise specs but if they become important in this conversation, I can certainly get them.
The link problem worked fine for a bit but it's now back. Restart, four or five clicks, problem returns, restart, four or five clicks, etc.
She has the most recent system software and the most recent version of Firefox.
Any obvious or not so obvious suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, again. She's very busy grading papers right now and doesn't want to stop to fix that. We'll get to it. However, we're going to try changing the default browser setup to Safari first just to see what happens. We hadn't thought of that.
As for our preference for Firefox, it's basically our history. Once Firefox came out and we were both still on Windows computers, it was definitely the proverbial no-brainer to move from IE to Firefox. As we moved to a full house of Macs, we've simply kept it with Firefox.
Only used Safari when for one reason or another it failed to work well with some site. For instance, she uses Blackboard for her online courses and Safari tends to work better with it than Firefox.
Thanks again for the help. If we find that Safari has the same linking problem, I'll be back with more questions.
