Links in mail will not open

After my so-called "techie" son (knows everything, 16 years old) used my MBP last week, I have a new problem.
Links in email will not open when I click on them, I have to copy and paste them into the browser.
I use Firefox 11.0.
Mail for mac 4.5,
Snow leopard 10.6.8.
I don't see in firefox preferences or mail preferences where to fix this.
Thanks, anyone, for taking a minute to help.

LaunchSafari (yes, Safari).  Open its preferences, General.  What does it say for the default web browser?  If it doesn't specify your desired browser, i.e., Firefox, change it to that.  Then quit Safari, relaunch Mail, and see if your links work now.

  • Mail will not open from dock and wont allow me to shut down, Help?

My mail will not open from the dock and if I try and close my computer it is prevented by the application mail being open.  Help please.

You can try to Force Quit the Mail application by using the keys OPTION COMMAND ESC, from the window that pops up select Mail and clcik force quit.
Have you tried launching Mail from your Applications folder? It launches properly, drag the icon off the dock, it should vanish in a puff of smoke, you can then go to the Applcations folder and drag the Mail icon back to the dock to create a new shortcut.

    Hello:
You need to contact "epost."  The issue is not an Apple issue....the epost software needs, I assume, to be updated.

Mail is open but it is frozen, being this the reason why you cannot open the Mail window. Press Alt, Command and Esc keys or go to  > Force Quit, select Mail and force quit it. Finally, you will be able to turn off or restart the MacBook

What happens when you try to open it?

  • My iPad mail will not open.  Have restarted, but still will not open

My ipad 2 mail will not open.  Touch mail, it moves to mail for a couple seconds then jumps back to main menu...  Have restarted and reset, but does not change anything.

Close the mail app and reset your iPad.
Closing apps in iOS 7 works like this. Drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't work, you might want to consider deleting the account and adding it back in - or going into your account on a computer - using webmail - and look for an email that has a large attachment that might be causing problems and causing the mail app to crash.

  • Mail will not open with icon

Mail will not open when I click on the icon. "Mail" appears in menu bar and in force quit but nothing happens. Please help. I am using Mac OSX 10.7.5.

Will it open directly from the Applications folder? If not, try re-installing the 10.7.5 Combo updater. It's OK to re-install the update over your existing OS, but before doing so, ensure you have full backup you can restore from should the need arise (it shouldn't, but it's always a good idea to have a recovery plan in place before you need one).

2009 MacBook Pro eh? It looks like your hard drive has failed. Three years is pretty standard. Often, then only hint you have is catastrophic failure.
If you put the old hard drive into an external enclosure or similar device, you may still be able to migrate your data from it. Just because it won't boot doesn't mean you can't still read from it. Still, I wouldn't keep trying it. As long as you are buying a new hard drive, may as well get sometime to use with Time Machine too.

  • Safari and Mail will not open.

Just opened Pwer Mac G4 with 10.4.11 but Safari and Mail will not open. Have all software updates. Firefox open and browses. What could be wrong?

    Hi-
Try booting in Safe mode and see if the applications work there.
Hold Shift while starting to boot to Safe mode.
If things work, reboot normally and see if the issue is resolved.
If not, download and install the 10.4.11 Combo Update and install (again is not a problem).
This should correct any issues due to absent files.
