Links in SDN forum posts

Hello!
This is probably trivial for most of you, but I just can't do it.
How do I create a link in a SDN forum post? The standard way doesn't work, and tips from the weblog "Weblog formatting tips&tricks" by Mark Finnern obviously don't apply here:
<a href="http://sap.com/community" target="_blank">SAP Community</a>
See?
So please enlighten me: how do I do this?
Thanks!
Igor

Hi,
If you don't want a description and just the plain URL shown, you only need the type the URL and all happens automagically. eg http://sdn.sap.com will be shown as link.

  • External links in these forum posts

    Hi,
Is it possible to ensure external links in the forum posts open in new windows or tabs (according to the users browser settings).
Navigating away from the forum and then navigating back to read more of a post is a bit of a pain.
    Thanks
    Phil

nope, unless someone add target="blank" to the links they post.

  • Preferred way to link to other forum posts in your message?

    Hi,
Every once in a while I come across forum posts that have links to
other posts in them.  However, sometimes I cannot follow the link
and get back to the message that the poster is referring to.  Is
there a standard way to link to forum posts?
For example, take the following thread:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=330&message.id=4386&query.id=0
The second message in this thread lists a URL that starts with
exchange.ni.com, and this just goes to a generic error message.
The poster does not give enough information for me to find the message
    using an advanced search.
Are there any standard procedures for linking to other NI discussion forum messages for new posts?
    --Peter

This is due to changes which were made to NI's site (and probably the database) that make old links obselete. Most people just use the method you did and hopefully these links will be kept up-to-date.
In this case, if you post a new message in that thread, I'm sure Ray will be happy to help you.

  • File attachments into sdn forums posts

    Hey mates!
I wonder if it's possible (or if not, maybe someone thought about it earlier) to attach some files into a posting to the SDN Forums. It would be quite useful to add a screenshot, or an ABAP-listing.
    Any suggestion?
    BR,
    Alvaro

    Hi Alvaro,
We have it running in an internal forum, but it is slow as hell.
If it is really bugging you and you can sign up to become a Weblogger (Weblogs -> Become a Weblogger) there you can load screen shots and then refer to them in your forum posts. You don't need to write a Weblog for that.
    Best, Mark.

  • General : new user ID not linked to my old user ID on SDN forum

I used to have a user ID on SDN forum & recently I recieved a request from SDN to collaborate my SDN account with SAP Service market place.
I accepted it & since then, all the questions that am posting into forums are being posted with new user ID & it's not the same as the one that i used earlier.
Basically, my old user ID got wiped off after this process.
How do I make sure that my new user ID posts tie with my old user ID.

  • SBO SDN forum Width

Hi, I'm really troubled with the width setting of the SBO forum. Is there any way to keep the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the forum to be always visible?
It seems like the forum width is to large to fit to my screen resolution (1024x768)
So if the message is out of screen , I have to scroll all the way to the bottom , then scroll it to the right, and then scroll all the way up again, just in order to be able to read the complete message.
I've included screen shot of the problem with forum setting. Seems like in other forum besides SBO SDN  forum, there is no such problem exist.
please take a look at the following link
    <a href="http://www.angelfire.com/wizard2/melodia/images/Forum_suggestion.bmp">http://www.angelfire.com/wizard2/melodia/images/Forum_suggestion.bmp</a>

Sorry, Didn't mean to spam the forum, seems like there has been another topic posting for the same matter, and it 's said that the problem will be fixed.
    Thx

  • I cannot post hyperlinks in a forum posting field

Running 3.6.8, I have recently been unable to post hyperlinks in a forum reply field. Any attempt to insert a Smiley results in the Smiley being pasted at the beginning of the text rather than at the cursor point. Inserting an embed link to Youtube appears to do nothing but the link is there when posted. When I perform any of the above functions, the cursor disappears from the text field but it is possible to continue inserting characters 'blind'. If I open an IE tab, all functions work correctly. Could this be Java-related? I have tried versions 6.0.15 through to 6.0.21 without success

You can check for problems with DDE.

At least the business card should be reachable directly form one's post, shouldn't it? It is now two steps to see it.

  • How to become a Moderator in SDN Forums

    Hello All,
When does one qualify to become a moderator in SDN Forums?
    Thanks,
    Jignesh

This thread has so many topics, I'll need to try to be very specific about which of these threads inside of threads I'm addressing.
Let me start with the problem of "inactive" moderators which Ravi particularly highlights.
Gali (and in the past Craig) kept a list of over 650 moderators for the various topics.  Moderators for the most part were SAP employees but about 50 of the 650 folks moderating were non-SAP folks who by merit of their active contributions or by nomination from an SAP employee or nomination by other members of the forum in a particular topic were asked to be a moderator.  Moderators submitted a request form and were accredited by topic experts or other SAP contributors.
In the case of SD for example, 2 of the four names I see on the list are from SAP's support group and are employees.  If they are "outdated" or inactive, Gali will need to ascertain that with her ERP resource and they should be removed or prodded into activity and/or replaced.
As you  can well imagine, keeping track of 650 or more moderators to ensure their "activity" is a pretty daunting task and it is through your comments and suggestions about their levels of activity that we can quality check as we are not subject experts in your individual forum areas: you are.
One another theme here, I agree with those that posted (albeit with a bit of sarcastic humor) that the role of moderator is not so much an acknowledgement and recognition of talents but a challenging chore.  And we certainly salute those who enter the coliseum (you know like the gladiators) to fight the good fight of keeping things useful and clean here.
Now if that chore negatively impacts good contribution abilities of the same gladiators, that really should be examined.  But I also see a very positive outcome of stepping aside to moderate and contribute less directly and that is that a number of those moderators are actively helping to create new "stars" by encouraging and highlighting and promoting the good activity of others.  In other words, they help create new "top topic contributors".  And if they aren't doing that, they should be because moderation isn't just about policing; its also about encouraging others.

  • HTML e-mail for watched forum posts

Any chance of sending the forum posts in HTML format?  I find the current presentation unappealing, I would prefer an HTML tabular display (wrapping in cell), something like:
    Forum:     <...>
    Topic:     <...>
    Posted By: <...>
    When:      <...>
    <MESSAGE>
We could also hide the links to the forum and topic behind nicer labels.
BTW, do we award points to answers in this forum?
    Cheers,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
"Unapealing" it is, but that doesn't get it very high on the long requirements list.
To make it more appealing to reward points is higher up there and I think everyone would love to see that.
Nevertheless I added it to the list.
    Best, Mark.
P.S. On one hand I don't care about points, on the other I get teased in the office when I am not in the top ten, although with all this great contributions from you guys and girls, I am letting go of that goal. So don't bother.

  • Sticky forum post

    hey,
how about a persistently-first-on-the-forum post that would contain common questions, etc.?
i was actually thinking of this as i deliberated on a possible topic to start off weblogging, but maybe this solution may be better than creating a weblog that contains an FAQ or something.
    ryan.

You can of course right the blog, we all enjoy new blogs.
The sticky topic is a hot topic, for example in the BSP forum we have 2 threads one for "General Rules" and one for "BSP Weblogs" both would of course benefit everyone if they were at the top.
As for the FAQ's the forums have a general one (menu left hand side bottom) and there are for examples ones related to BSP available.
There is also a new "Sapedia" coming for just this very purpose we heard about it at the Walldorf SDN Meets Labs.

  • Text not showing up on PHPBB forum posts

There are 2 forums I visit regularly that are powered by phpbb. They work completely fine, but when I click on a post to read it, the text shows for about one second, then the post's box extends and there is nothing in it. If you want to look at one of the forums and see if it does the same for you, look here: www.sims99.com/bbs. If anybody could help me fix this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Dumb me - you gave the first link in your first post. That's what I get for looking at my computer before my first pot of coffee for the day. ;-)>
I have tested the first forum in both Safari and Firefox. I am getting a php error message from the servers for the second forum.
For the sims99 forum, I am sometimes seeing what you are seeing using Safari. Sometimes I can read the posts and sometimes the text clears, the box expands down the page, and it remains empty. I cannot determine why one time I will get the blank, expanded post boxes and other times I will not. I will be able to read a topic, go back to it to see blank boxes, but then be able to read it, or not, on the third try. I can see no pattern.
Using Firefox, I am getting a more consistent pattern. I will click on a topic. The text will appear and then clear. I will momentarily see both horizontal and vertical scroll bars in each post box. These will then disappear and the text will come back.
This behavior is not generic to php boards but is caused by how this particular forum was set up. I have not seen this behavior in any other php - or other - forums.
All browsers on both Windows and the Mac cache pages on your computer to speed up surfing the web. Sometimes what is in the cache interferes with refreshing or using a page. To clear the cache in Safari, click on the Safari menu entry and choose "Empty Cache". However, in this particular case, clearing the cache had no effect.
For now, if this is a forum you want to use, it does work using Firefox, so you might want to download and try this browser. I find that it is a good idea to keep an alternate browser on hand for when Safari comes across a web site it chokes on. There are close to a dozen very good to excellent browsers available for OS X and Firefox is one of the best, but you will find other users who will give you excellent reasons why they think some of the others are the best. Even in the Windows world, you will find that not all web sites are well behaved in all browsers.
Two things you can do are to report this forum to Apple and to the forum's webmasters. To report the problem to Apple, go to the Safari menu and click on "Report Bugs to Apple" while you are on the forum. If you click on "More Options" you will be able to include the page source code and/or a screen shot. Give as much information as possible in the description. I cannot find webmaster or site contact info for the forum, but most of the announcements are posted by a user named Nova, you you might want to send a description of the problem to this user using the PM (Private Message) function.
Congratulations on getting a Mac. I think you will continue finding it an excellent experience. And these forums are an excellent place to learn things, either by specifically asking questions or just by scanning the various topics.
