Links not opening firefox

I have been trying to open links sent via email and in Bionic Manager. No success. Bionic manager mentions I should set the Environment Variable for the browser. Can someone tell me how to solve this problem? I have set Firefox as the default browser.

Hello,
I saw that you have some addons to block some pages and saw some are inactive, but try click on the link in Safe Mode:
*[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Firefox in safe mode]
Also try verify if your antivirus or Firewall are blocking the access.
*[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configure-windows-firewall-allow-firefox-access Configure Windows Firewall to allow Firefox access to the Internet]

• I'm using outlook email, Firefox 11 and Windows 7 Home but email links do not open Firefox even though it's my default browser, Fix?

My email links fail to open Firefox 11. They used to last week but IE updated and now links in my outlook emails do not open Firefox 11 even though it's my default browser. When I change to IE as the default the links open IE.
Your assumptions about my browser, operating system and others are correct.
VERY FRUSTRATING. HELP, Please

Hi,
Please also try this: Windows Control Panel > '''Default Programs''' > '''Associate a file type or protocol with a program''' > look for '''.url''' > '''Change program''' to Firefox.
edit: You have to restart Outlook or sometimes reboot the system for the change to take effect. Thanks AUnderhill.

• I can not open Firefox due to a virus. Can I un-install and then re-install Firefox and save my original setup and favorites

I can not open Firefox due to a virus.
When trying to open Firefox, the program directed the computer to shut down, and prevented me from going into Safe mode.
The virus only affected Firefox and rebooting in Safe.
The virus has been scrubbed, but I get the crash report every time I try to open Firefox. Can I install a new version of Firefox and still keep my bookmarks/ How can I rescue my bookmarks.
I am posting this from another computer location.

I used to have a slightly similar problem. Not the Virus problem, but the re-install of Firefox. The solution for this in the future would be for you to install and use FEBE Firefox Environment Backup Extension so you can fully back-up your settings, and other Addons, and Themes etc. that were within your FEBE backed up profile, so you can do the re-install of Firefox and then restore your saved profile that encompasses all of or most of what you presently don't want to loose. You could still do a FULL PROFILE FEBE, and re-install Firefox, and do a FULL PROFILE RESTORE, and if you might no longer have a virus problem after the restore. If so, your in good shape. I would find and run a good quality Anti-Virus scan, and if you wish to try to catch what you might have missed with the new scan I also suggest from www.IOBit.com that you add 2 programs that look to be better at catching problems than most other scan and repair utilities. The programs I suggest you add are called Advanced System Care - presently is version 5, and IOBit Malware Fighter, and one other. Their super powerful Smart Defrag that is faster than most Defrag programs and their is only one other Defrag program that comes close to it's power, and that is Diskepper, and you get Smart Defrag for free, and it's better, and faster than the others in my opinion. ASC Advanced System Care will clean your system and make it run faster specially if you have noticed it is slowing down for one reason or another , and it will do this with less resources than the other programs that you may already be using. The only thing they lack at present is an Anti-Virus portion which would add much more value to the already super programs. Good Luck. Let me know what you think after trying the noted programs. You should be very satisfied of the results.

• When I try to download Firefox 5.0 (I have 4.0) I get the box that indicates that Acrobat could not open 'Firefox 5.0.dmg' . Mac OS10.6.7 Help!

I keep getting the Software Update for Firefox 5.0. I try to update after viewing the informatiion choosing English and MacOS X. It downloads and then I get the message: "Acrobat could not open ‘Firefox 5.0.dmg’ because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn’t correctly decoded)."
I would be most grateful for any help; I am 78 and trying but not succeeding. Ah, the scourge of age.

Sorry, Firefox 4.0.1 isn't supported any longer, that's why you are getting re-directed. Firefox 5.0 is a security update for 4.0.1; Firefox 4.0 didn't get that update, but Firefox 3.6.18 did. Best to stick with 3.6.18 until whatever you are using for those logins is updated for Firefox 5.0.

• I can not open Firefox. Keep getting the error message "Failed to read the configuration file. Please contact your system administrator." What do I do?

I can not open Firefox. I keep getting the message "Failed to read the configuration file. Please contact your system administrator." I have tried uninstalling Firefox and then reinstalling it but without success. What should I do?

Which Fx version? When you uninstalled Fx, did you reboot computer before reinstall?
Also, check for / delete any leftover files in the Fx programs install folders, before reinstall?
Is your profile in the default location or custom location?
Have you tried creating a new, completely clean profile - to test (then make sure to select that profile to start Fx - from the Profile Manager)? (no addons or plugins installed).
Does the user acct (that Fx fails under) have access ("rights") to all locations - especially for Fx profiles location?

• Downloaded Firefox 4 to my Mac OS10.5.8 and now can not open Firefox.

Downloaded Firefox 4 to my Mac OS10.5.8 and now can not open Firefox. The processor is 1.25 GHz Power PC G4 and 768 MB DDR SDRAM memory. Is it possible to go back to an earlier version that was running very well on my Mac?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

• Operating System Window XP Professional. I can not open Firefox. I have reset it and it worked for a few days. Now I can not execute it. Appreciate help.

Can not execute Firefox. So I updated it and reinstalled it. Then I reset it. For a couple days it worked fine. Now I am back to square one. Can not open firefox again.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the [[Uninstall Firefox from your computer#w_uninstall-firefox|Uninstall Firefox]] article.
'''IMPORTANT:''' On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do '''not''' check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox [[Profiles|user profile data]] will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
* '''(On 32-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox''
* '''(On 64-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox''
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the '''Program Files''' folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the '''Program Files (x86)''' folder.
#Look for a '''Mozilla Firefox''' folder. If you find one, right-click it and select ''Delete'' and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

• Clicking on a link does not open firefox and take me to the page when firefox is my default browser but does when Internet Explorer is my default browser, what is wrong?

All of a sudden (I think after the last firefox update) links in other web pages won't open firefox to access the page when firefox is my default browser but works when I change my default browser to Internet Explorer and I can't figure out why. Help!!!

This problem just arose for me today. Very frustrating. Tried all of the suggestions here without success. Then a very simple solution came to me:
UNINSTALL CHROME. I haven't used Chrome for a long while anyway since it seems to have chronic problems of one sort or another. Firefox does 95% of what I need, and Internet Explorer can handle the other 5%.
After uninstalling Chrome I clicked a mailto link. It asked me what program to use and did not list Firefox as an option for some reason. In the Tools menu, I chose "Options" and went to the "Applications" tab. Searched for "mailto". There was a single entry - when Chrome was installed it gave me no options to switch. After uninstalling Chrome I was able to change that. It still did not list Firefox, but it did list "Gmail". Selecting that causes my Gmail to open in Firefox.
I have no idea whether Google or Microsoft is responsible for this, but I'm inclined to give the hairy eyeball to Google for this one. It's the sort of stunt they'd pull on Microsoft, then pretend it was just a mistake. Just one guy's opinion, of course.

• Can not open firefox

I shut off my computer to allow updates to my norton security
and now when I click on the firefox icon it does not open.
I have important information that I need.

Hi,
Maybe this is just a one-off solution:
* Open taskmanager (ctrl + shift + esc in vista)
* Go to "processes"-tab
* Search and select firefox.exe
* Click on the button "end task"
* Try to open firefox again
Kind regards,

• MBP will not open Firefox or Photoshop

Have had my MacBook for about 4 years using OS-X 10.6.8 about three weeks ago Firefox began crashing nothing would fix it no online support seemed to address the issue, now today Adobe Photoshop has started quiting before it finishes booting up, mimicking what Firefox was doing. Have read that my Mac cannot get a virus but don't know what else it could be. Have not run any updates other than the automatic ones and do not open any emails that have any links for any reason, am stumped, need photoshop on a daily basis and it is shutting my work down! ~tom

I was able to reload Photoshop and solved that issue, tried disk utility but it did not help, finally uninstalled firefox and have been getting by with Safari.
My I-mac runs both no problem so I just gave up on the Mac Book

• I updated mozillo firfox and now i can not open firefox. i have tried everything, uninstall and intall, tried to read other peopl's recommendation, nothing work

I updated firefox 27.0.1(x86.en-US) two days ago and now it is not opening. please help me, it is frustrating. I have been using firefox for a long time and I have saved a lot. can you please help me. I have checked under firewall and Mozilla firfox is not blocked. I have read every recommendation I could get to fix the problem but not working. I have windows 7

One of the suggestions probably was to try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode by holding down the shift key when starting Firefox. (This doesn't work if Firefox is still running hidden in memory.)
In the small dialog that should appear, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
Any luck?
Also, I will message you a link to download Firefox 27.0, in case the problem is unique to Firefox 27.0.1.

• External Link - not opening

At first I thought it was my firewall because I haven't had
this problem before, but I found out it wasn't.
I've tried three browsers with the same result (latest flash
version) (Opera, Firefox, and Internet Explorer), but I still can't
open external links in flash Example: Weather.com's Allergies
Outlook (it says View Complete Pollen Cast) but the link will not
open (unless I Shift-Click). But links that open in a new window
will open just perfectly, links that attempt to open in the same
window (that are external) will not open, no matter what I try to
do. I've disabled Security software, re downloaded and installed
Flash, tried on a different computer (which worked), tried 3
browsers, closed all running (non-essential) processes.
I'm not sure if this would have anything to do with it, but I
did install Vista SP1, then remove it (it didn't work in SP1
either), I'm not sure about before...
Any Suggestions?
If you need them here are system specs:
Operating System: Windows Vista Ultimate
Default Browser: Firefox 2
Firefox Addons installed (should be irrelevant because it
didn't work in IE, and so forth):
Ad Block Plus, Foxmarks, and NoScript.
Security Suite: Kaspersky
Thank You

I agree with OP. There should be a '''setting''' that makes '''all links that can be opened with an app open in the app immediately '''(or show the dialog OP mentioned).
On a slow mobile connection, waiting for the page to load just to be able to click the icon and open it in the app is painful! It takes ages...

• Safari not opening firefox even though firefox is set as default in safai

I followed the recommended set up by going to preferences and setting firefox as the default browser.
If I start Safari it does not open the web page using firefox
If I activate firefox from the menu bar it works fine.
Why is setting the default to firefox not working.

Safari is not going to open Firefox since they are both browsers. When you set a default browser, it means that if you click a link in an email, say, the browser that the link will open with is Firefox. If you want to launch a browsing session on your own, you select the browser you want to use.
Cheers,
