Links on the intranet

+Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes.+
We have several Macs in our companies running off of Windows based servers. Our companies intranet (internal website that is only accessible from the inside) was created on a Windows computer with links pointing to our servers. my problem is that the Mac computers cannot access the links. When my Mac users click the links nothing happens. Most of the links are accessing documents/folders on windows servers. I take it that Macs and Windows read links differently, especially if they are being accessed locally. The links are not read as http:// because these are all internally based they are read as file://. Do they need to be read as smb?
*If so, how can I get my Windows computers to read these links and my Mac computers as well?*

Absolute links to files on a local drive do not work between platforms due to differences in the naming systems. If possible, change the links on the pages themselves so that they don't have a prefix, which creates a relative link; if this isn't possible, there is no solution other than using separate links or manually changing the URLs in the browser's address bar.

  • Failed to open links on the Intranet.

    Hello!
In the technical support page for my company there are several links that allow access to files stored in folders on the server, however when the user gives a click on a link, the browser can not open the corresponding file.
    Example:
    Link: Technical Support.
    Path: ... <a href="file://\\srvbvmg2\support"> ... </ a> ...
At first, I noticed that in the status bar is showing the following information: "http://intranet\\srvbvmg2\support". How do I make Firefox read the path of the shared network folder without displaying the words "http://intranet"?
NOTE: The procedure that was posted in the forum (Firefox fails to open Locan based intranet server files) did not solve my problem.

    usbiksc,
Give the steps outlined in this article a shot and let us know if it helps. Best of Luck!

  • .FLV Video will not work when linked to on intranet (Captivate 5)

I have a project with video (.FLV).
    1. Project was developed and published to a folder on the local hard drive of a PC.
    2. Project was copied to my company's intranet server.
    3. If I click on "My computer" and navigate to the network folder where the project is, the project and video work fine.
    4. If I LINK to the project (say to send the location to someone in an Outlook message) the project WILL open, but the video will not (reads "Connection Error").
I did add the video to the library of the project.  The video file is in the same folder as the published project.
I have worked with support over the phone and wanted to try something different before calling back.  The solution they gave me was to zip the project.  I haven't tried that because it will not be practical for my small hospital.  My users will need to be able to click on something and make it work, they may not have admin rights to the pc or the knowledge/desire to unzip a file.
    Thanks for reading.

I thought I'd add a few comments in addition to Rod's good suggestions. For the benefit of others who may follow this thread in the future where their .flv is stored on a web server or MS SharePoint. I'd suggest checking with the web server administrator to assure that the server accommodates the .flv "mime type". This is often the problem when you see the "Connection Error" statement.
This Adobe Knowledge Base article gives details to fix it.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/194/tn_19439.html
This can also be the case if the .flv is being delivered from SharePoint.

Of course these might not be where your .flvs are stored, but just in case...

  • TREX Search : static HTML pages in KM with links to other intranet websites

    Hi there,
we have some static HTML pages stored in KM. Besides text, these pages contain links ot other intranet websites, pdf or word documents.
I have defined an index, according to <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/73/66c090acf611d5993700508b6b8b11/frameset.htm">creating an index</a>
Following parameters have been added :
    IndexInternalLinks = true
    indexContentOfExternalLink = true
    showWithoutDatasource = true
Already had a look at <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/46/5d5040b48a6913e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm">Crawlers and Crawler Parameters</a>, tried by creating a new crawler profile and setting
Maximum Depth = 3 (we want to search three levels deep)
    There is also <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/46/5d5040b48a6913e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm">Resource Filters</a>
The html pages itself are included in the index, but the content of the external links is not included.
Would this be possible? We don't want to define an <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/73/66c090acf611d5993700508b6b8b11/frameset.htm">HTTP System</a> in the system landscape, as we don't need to index the whole external website and some parts of it are obsolete - we only want following the links and included the external content in the index.
    Portal version is NW2004S SP10.
    Thanks & best regards,
    Kevin

    Hello Kevin,
If you don't want to create a HTTP system then you can create a simple web repository.
For details you can follow help guide:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/a4/76bd3b57743b09e10000000a11402f/frameset.htm
Also you can create a Web Repository:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/12/47833ceb3da02ce10000000a114027/frameset.htm
Do refer to "Dynamic and Static Web Repositories" section in the document. This will answer your query.

  • Usage of UPK guide from the intranet

    Hi,
We are pushing usage of UPK for all our IT applications (Oracle and others). We are not using any LMS system.
What we want to do is to access upk guides directly from our MS Sharepoint intranet via simple links (UPK Guide for ERP, UPK Guide for PLM...)
The way we are doing it is to create the link pointing on the play.exe file located in each "Publishing Content" folder and we are facing 2 issues :
    * Internet explorer is sending several warning message because we are launching and executable file which create bad user experience
    * Execution of the player from a remote location provide bad performance (it takes several minutes bnefore the content appears)
Is there any other way to publish the content on the intranet and solving this ?
    Thank you for any help,
    William

    Hello,
Beth is correct that linking to the index.html is how to launch the UPK Player when it's on a web server (including SharePoint or similar.)
It sounds like the folder structure may not have remained intact during the upload to SharePoint. For the UPK Player to run, it is important that all the folder and files that are uploaded remain in the same relative locations. I know tools similar to SharePoint have the ability to expand ZIP files after they are uploaded, but I have not used SharePoint for many years. If SharePoint offers this ability, this may be the easiest way to upload content to SharePoint.
Here's a discussion on LinkedIn where UPK users have had success with deploying UPK via SharePoint (You will need to be a member of the Oracle UPK Community LinkedIn group to see it): http://www.linkedin.com/groupItem?view=&gid=1148807&type=member&item=54216909&qid=5c90daa3-627f-473e-a385-caf366655ce7&goback=.gmp_1148807

  • Proper Way to Post a Web Template to the Intranet.

Is there a more structured way of posting a report to the intranet, other than just copying and pasting the link to your intranet page.

Depends on what system your intranet is run on. If it's SAP EP you can import the iview file. In case IBM Web Sphere Portal server the BW report can be imported as a portlet which will be rendered as any other portlet.
    Thanks.

  • "Your Benefits and Payroll Information" links referencing the wrong URL-ESS

    Hi Everyone,
At my project we need to change the underlying URL for the following links found under "Your Benefits and Payroll Information" page.
    Other Benefits and Discount Programs
Family Status Change Form for Mid-year Benefit Changes
    Other Benefits Forms
Contacts for your Daiichi Sankyo Benefits
As per our project requirements, the under lying URL for each of the above links should be some destination within our intranet. We made this change in the SAP backend, however when we go to the Portal and click on one of the links we are routed to a non-existent URL. See the examples below for a clearer picture of our issue...
    <b>Example</b>
    <i><b>Link in the SAP Backend</b></i>:
    https://intranet.cst.com/site/contentEngine/content.cfm?page_content_ID=10
<i><b>Link that appears in the Browser</b></i>:

We tried to go around this issue by creating a URL iView and then calling the URL iView from the SAP Backend. So instead of a valid URL we entered the location of the iView (ROLES://...) in the backend. This also, had the same result as before...The URL iView is launched, however the URL iView has the second URL.
Not sure what is causing this...any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Christopher,
Thanks for your reply! I created a resource with fields Window Properties populated with "_blank" and a URL specified in the URL of Resource Object field.  I then create a Service and assigned the Resource to Link Resource and chose "Direct Url launched in separate window" for the Service Type.  I then assigned the Service to the a Subarea.
The result was the link did not show up.  When I add the URL to "URL of PCD Page" and "Directory Path" in the Resource area the link shows up but does the above with the URL.
    Thanks

  • Can´t resolve domain names in the intranet

I am unable to see a site in my workplace's intranet because safari (and explorer) are unable to resolve the server domain name (//dbs01/login.asp/) and the most frustrating part is that the lamest PC connected to it can. I worked it around changing the dbs01 part for the ip number of the server (192.168.100.1xx) and was able to login to the site but as I click on any link my problem starts again because the javascript instructions redirect the browser to pages using the name "dbs01". How can I make it work?
This happens with airport as well as ethernet connection to the intranet
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Updated info: I realized today, after doing some more digging, that when the Cisco Windows client is installed, it basically creates a new network adapter. When I go to that network adapter, and check the properties for TCP/IP, there are entries under DNS for my county's DNS server. So when I am connected with Cisco VPN using Parallels, I can access the internet no problem because the vpn client has DNS entries. But when I connect using the Mac version of Cisco, on the same laptop, while in Mac OS X, I can't go to an internet site unless I manually enter the IP address. So, I'm still needing help here. Is it a setting my county needs to change on the Cisco switch? They had mentioned to me that when connected with VPN, all regular internet traffic is routed through one's ISP. But that doesn't seem to be the case here...

  • Open report link in the same page

    Hi,
I have two reports in a dashboard page with a prompt. Now, I need to display one report in the compound layout and the other should appear as a link. When a user wants clicks on the link, the second report should also be displayed along with the first report with the prompt value.
I tried using Display result --> Link in the dashoard option. But then when I click on the link the first report is not displayed.
    Any suggestions please.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ronnie.

they dont want to see the first report.
Is there a way in which the Prompts are also display along with the second report? Then create the same prompt on the second report also.
    Cheers

  • For some reason, I am unable to click on links in the very lower left of the screen. It does not matter if the screen is maximized or smaller. This started a little over a month ago and I can't figure out how to fix it. Any ideas?

Windows 2007. Firefox is currently up-to-date. The problem is the most notable on https://evolve.elsevier.com/cs/Satellite/StudentMyHome?Audience=Student although I have noticed it on other sites. On this site, the position of some of the links on the screen makes it difficult to do my online course work.
This does not happen in Internet Explorer, or in Firefox when used on my school's computers, although I haven't been on them since Spring semester ended a few weeks ago.

Does it help if you make the Find bar (Ctrl+F) or the Add-ons bar (Ctrl+/) (Firefox > Options or View > Toolbars) visible?

  • Adding link to the photo and Name in the outlook contact card -Enterprise wide

How can I make the name and photo in the outlook contact card link to my profile page? I read articles where it is mentoined that the URL is set in Registry, currently my organization does not have any link associated with photo and name in contact card.
I want to implement this across the organization , any deployment or changes that I need to do to implement this across?
Appreciate if you can provide details on how this is done. The url will look like this:
    https://www.produrl.com/userid={userid}
How can I dynamically add respective userid in the link?Appreciate your response on this.

So you want to redesign the contact card in Outlook? Are you using SharePoint? If signed into sharepoint via the social connect, there is a link to the mysharepoint page under View source. I don't think you can change the link or customize the card,

  • Is there anyway I can make a link on the "value" and not the label (detail form)

    Hi there,
I have a master-detail form (within an appl) based on 2 real
tables in a master-detail FK relationship.
The detail block displays 6 rows. Currently you can only place a
link on the label on top of the block.
What I need is to make let's say tha actual value of lastname in
each row display as a link, something like:
    rec.lastname_value
I also need to pass the actual ID of that row in the URL used by
href. I know that you could do it in custom "sql", but do not
know how to make my form do that.

  • Is it possible to create a link on the content of a text annotation??

Is it possible to create a link on the content of a annotation??? Like the content of an annotation is some notes as well as a link...
    content -
    this is my first annotation(notes)
    http://www.google.co.in/(link)
is it possible to create a link for the url given in the content of an annotation??? On click on the url...it should get opened...
    please reply its really urgent....

How/where do you want to accomplish it?
Within the document? Using Acrobat? Using another application?
Using Acrobat within the document would be possible using Acrobat JavaScript. You can access the annotation objects of your document, and you then can evaluate the properties of each of these objects. Have a closer look at the Annotation Object section in the Acrobat JavaScript documentation.
You will look for the contents property, and evaluate its content. When you have found something looking like a URL, you can create a link (using the rect property of the annotation), and you have what you want; you might then think to destroy the annotation, as it may overlay the link.
    Hope this can help.
