Links on web search results no updated

I'm sure this is about as basic as things can get but i recently updated some names of files to help with search results. All links on website appear to be working correctly however when i do a search for owen dawson golf instruction the two links that i changed don't work if you click on them (Lesson programs and Adult Lessons). I deleted the files from the server but they don't seem to be updated on the links that are available from the initial search.

If you just added a redirect through a server/hosting interface, basically what would be happening is every time someone asks the server for a given page, it would send them to the page you specify instead. That way you wouldn't need to re-upload any file because the server would intecept the request and display something else instead. Google will eventually drop off thos old bad links and display the new ones.
Is that what you mean?
The robots meta tag looks fine, just make sure it's not on your new pages. If you created server sided redirects, you don't need to re-upload the old pages with the robots meta.

  • Creating PDFs with links for web searches

Hi everyone. That title is not exactly the problem I'm having, but it's a good start.
We have found that Firefox/IE/Chrome search our PDFs quite nicely, but when the link is clicked in the search results, all that happens is that the PDF opens to page 1. Users have to search again to find what they're looking for. Perhaps that is just how such a search is supposed to happen, but it seems that I've seen somewhere that a PDF opened to the page with the search term on it.
What can we add to the FrameMaker source files or the PDF (before it's posted to the web) to ensure that a search link takes the user precisely to the text being searched for? We're TCS3 with unstructured FM but might soon be, um, strongly encouraged to switch to the structured version.
I've looked through the FM and Acrobat forums for an answer, to no avail.
    Thanks for the help!

    > I wonder whether it's a limitation of the search engine, rather than FM or Acrobat.
That would be my guess. Search engines probably cannot search many PDFs in the raw at all (you don't have to turn on much security to turn a PDF binary into an encrypted mess). But if the PDF allows reading and/or printing, they can render the whole thing, and index what's displayed. The named destinations may not be recovered in that process, plus, you're not always assured that there will be an ND nearby everything you're indexing.
Adobe might even provide some APIs that would allow deeper linking into PDFs as a search result, but it may also be that few enough have useful NDs that it just isn't worth the bother to look. NDs inflate the size of the PDF, so many publishers don't turn them on (we don't, and probably won't, until we need deliberate deep linking).
If you want the info to be accessible like a web page, you multi-flow to HTML or a similar non-atomic format as well.

  • Google web search results "not right" in Firefox

I'm having a problem using Google web search (both toolbar and straight from google.com) in Firefox. When I search for a keyword, lets say a business name, and expect it to bring up the business's website, the results include videos, some blogs, news, etc. Nothing from the business's main website are included in the search results. There are no problems with Google web search in IE or Chrome.
Here's a specific example: Search "Mozilla Firefox" in Google using Firefox there are 31,600,000 results with the top 10 being random websites about Firefox browsers. When I search "Mozilla Firefox" in Google using IE, there are only 130,000,000 (4 times more), with the top results being www.mozilla.org/, and other "main" Mozilla sites.
I've run all the recommended Malware/Antivirus fixes, reinstalled Firefox, updated the few add-ons/plug-ins I have, and made sure that Google search settings are the exact same for all browsers. Nothing is working.
Is anyone else having this issue or have a guess to what may be causing it? I've spent a few hours trying to fix it and at this point am ready to give up on Firefox, which is (was) my go to browser.

  • How do I get Firefox 12 to open a link from Google search results?

Ever since upgrading to version 12.0, whenever I click on certain links the browser just "reloads" the same page I am on rather than loading the new page in the same tab. When this happens it's not opening the link in a new tab or window, instead just for a second the tab I am on says "connecting" and has the circular busy indicator, and then I'm right where I was before. In order actually follow a link I'm having to context click and then click Open in a new Tab.
On a lot of websites the links follow as usual and open the new page in the same tab. Others don't however, such as the search results page from google. I'm wondering if this is something to do with the new anti-duplicate tab feature, and if so, how do I disable that? I'm on OSX 10.6.8. Thanks.

  • How do I get the top links in the search results page to display the folder?

In the search results page, if you click on the top link from each result, it only brings up the description. Not much use as a link, so was wondering how you display the folder from this link.

Is this for the general public or just for you?  If it is for the general public then insert this code at the top of the page:
    <TITLE>---</TITLE>
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">
    </HEAD>
And also at the end of the file after the closing body tag:
    </BODY>
    <HEAD>
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">
    </HEAD>

It is unorthodox but it works.

  • Firefox hangs every time I click on something from Google - eg, link on a search result.

It takes me to Google fine, allows me to type in a search term, brings up the answers, but then hangs after ANY link I hit on that page. Only started a while ago. I'm using Windows 7, but not Google desktop. All other web sites are fine.

Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
Also, if you have some kind of security software installed which scans links like AVG Safe Search, AVG Link Scanner, McAfee Secure Search, McAfee Site Advisor, or some other kind of anti-phishing tool, try disabling it.

  • How do I make the fount of my web search results bigger

I am not able to read the web results because the fount is too small. Some pages do not let me zoom either. The settings only makes the fount bigger for typing messages.

Three ways; double tap with one finger, double tap with three fingers, or put two fingers on the screen and spread them apart.

  • When I do a search and then click on any link in the search results, it brings up a random page. Then I hit 'back' and click the same link and it brings up the right page. This happens EVERY time. What is going on?

We recently had a few viruses show up on our computer. They were deleted and everything except Firefox seems back to normal. This problem with Firefox started happening around the same time the viruses showed up. What should I do to fix this?

Maybe such stubborn virus can be removed manually. Try this one: http://blog.teesupport.com/address-63-209-69-107-changed-homepage-manually-remove-63-209-69-107-google-redirection-completely/

  • Links in search results do not open new tabs.

I'm missing something here and in other threads on this subject. I used to be able to search in the search bar, using google, for instance, and a new tab would open with the search results. Then if I left clicked on a link within the search results another new tab would open and switch to the linked page.
I don't remember how that was set up, but I know I didn't have to go into about:config or install a special add-on for that. I think it was set up in the tab mix plus add-on.
I have no problem with the search results opening a new tab, it's that I now have to middle-click on a link or right-click + click on "open in new tab".
What changed here and why? My old method worked in Ver. 21, it Changed in Ver. 22.
It seems like all these "updates" remove stuff we used to have with no notice and then come up with more finger clicks and config edits to do what was straight forward before.

  • Need to create link to Word Doc in blob column in search results report

I got the Oracle Text boolean search of word documents in a blob column of a table working.
Now I need to be able to create a link in the results report.
I know that Oracle creates a link for each document in the column when you attach a file, I just need to know what the link should be to allow users to open the document in the search results report.
Right now the application is set to do a search in the attached word documents, and in the results window it shows the names of the people who match the search, but it won't allow me to create a link to their resume in the results report.
the name of the table is CONTRACTOR_LIST and the blob column is RESUME.
How would you go about creating a simple link to the word file in the results window?
Here is the code for the query
    select score(1) relevance, Name, Resume
    from contractor_list
    where CONTAINS (resume, :P1_SEARCH, 1) > 0
    order by 1 desc
That works, but I can't get it to link to the resume file.
Here is the code I'm using for the link
    javascript:popupURL(&quot;#RESUMEL#&quot;)
This just give me an error page and the the link is
    http://server-namer:8080/apex/[datatype]
    the error is
    Bad Request
The HTTP client sent a request that this server could not understand.
    Thanks again!

It is within the table I believe (I'm not a DBA or a developer) since I created a BLOB column and then used the file browse feature to allow users to attach a resume to the table in order to be able to perform a search of the attached documents.
I'm just having a hard time pointing the link in the search results report to the document in the blob column.
The information on that page is great if you're trying to create a link to the document on the initial report.
But I created a query using Oracle Text to run a report that does a boolean search of the attached word documents in the table.
When it displays the search results, it doesn't create a link to the document and I can't figure out how to do it.
Here's a link the the instructions I used to create the initial search report with Oracle Text, mind you I only created the index and query, I didn't add in all the link data since they're using documents on websites and I'm using documents in a table.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/pdf/apex_text_application_v1.6.pdf
If you can help me with this I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks again.

  • Error when opening a pdf by clicking a search result. Link works fine when opened any other way. IE issue only.

    The issue:
    www.norwich.gov.uk
When you carry out a search for "co-operative bank" and click the first result (which is a pdf), Adobe Reader is launched and the user sees this error: "There was an error opening this document, The filename, directory name or volume label syntax
    is incorrect"
However, if you do any of these...
right-click the link and choose to open it in a new tab
right-click the link, copy the shortcut, paste it into the address bar and hit go
open the file directly from the library
open the file by clicking on a hyperlink
... you are prompted to Open or Save the file. On choosing 'Open' the file is opened in the browser window with no problems.  It is only when clicking on the link in the search results that the issue arises.  The issue only occurs with IE.
    Current settings:
    Client integration is disabled
Browser file handling is set to permissive
Default open behaviour for browser-enabled documents is set to open in the browser
    DOCICON.xml is configured to show <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="icpdf.png" EditText="Adobe Acrobat" OpenControl=""/>
Disabling the Adobe Acrobat SharePoint Opendocuments add-on 'fixes' the issue, in that the user no longer sees the error, but instead sees the prompt. However, this doesn't help us as the site is public facing asn we cant control user's add-ons.
    Hope someone can help.

I tried this from my laptop with IE8 and it worked fine.
I trust that answers your question...
    Thanks

  • Search Server 2010 Express: Open a PDF document from list of search results invokes adobe reader client application with error

    Hi community,
I set up search server 2010 express on a windows 2008 r2 server.
The Adobe PDF iFilter 9 64 bit is installed and search is correctly configured to find PDF-files.
When doing a search and clicking on a link of the result page, the PDF is not opened in the browser, instead the adobe reader XI client application (11.0.04) is invoked and an error raised like "could not open document .. check syntax of url..."
Right click on a link to open in new tab works fine. And PDF-Files from other arbitrary Internet Sites opens in browser correctly. Moreover when configure Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 as default application on the client it also open in Browser correctly.
I noticed googling the web there are several challenges when dealing with PDF-files in sharepoint. The following settings are made so far:
    1. In IE: Add-On to open PDF in Browser is enabled for all sites.
    2. Client Integration is enabled
    3. The OpenControl attribute in the DOCICON.xml is left empty OpenControl="" for the pdf entry.
    4. The Browser File Handling is set to "Permissive".
Please feel free to ask for more information if needed.
I appreciate any help on this. I don't know what to do further.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply.
Before responding to your points I want to give a little more context:
We have an intranet based on pure html and a little aspx containing many of those pdf- files. By clicking on the links in the intranet the files open correctly in browser handled by the adobe plugin. Now we set up this search server crawling the file system
accessed through a share to the root folder of the intranet. In the search server settings a host mapping rule is applied to replace the file://[share] with http://[intranet host+domain+port] to access files over http.
And now to answer your question. The resulting urls are the same, copying the link from intranet and copying the link from the search result (except some case issues).
The event viewer not seem to show any errors on this, though I'm not very familiar using it.
If any further information are from interest and any ideas come to your mind - please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Own Search Result Layout Set

    Hi,
as following the document "How to remove the 'details' link from the search results page" (https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/a1-8-4/how to remove the details link from the search results page.pdf) we copied the SearchResultLayoutSet and renamed it.
Now we changed the own SearchResultCollection Renderer of FlexibleUI via the KM User Interface to fit our requirements.
To activate our own SearchResultLayoutSet we updated the file /etc/search.oth to use it instead of the standard one. It was necessary to reload the OTH with the following steps (EP6 SP2 Patch3):
    - Activate UI Superusers (wdfproxy)
    - Then a link “Rendering Information” within the Search page Results will be displayed.
    - Clicking this the Debug info page opens, here the button "Reload OTH" was available.
    - Clicking this, the OTH is reloaded and the new own layout set is activated.
Now, when we moved to patch 27. This procedure differs a little:
    - Activate UI Superusers (wdfproxy)
    - Then a link “Rendering Information” within the Search page Results will be displayed.
    - Clicking this the Debug info page opens, here the button "Reload OTH" is not available anymore, instead there is a link "OTH Overview".
    - Clicking this, the OTH overview with a "Reload" button appears.
    - But clicking the reload button does not have the desired result: search.oth reloaded and the new own layout set is activated.
How can a own SearchResultLayoutSet be activated globally in the Search OTH? Is there another way with Patch 27?
    Thanks,
    Erik
Message was edited by: Erik Mueller

    Hi Erik,
I mean it appears most likely to be an error in the
location or contents of the search.oth file. If no
errors are showing up in the log, I would guess the
modified content is not being found. I think you need
to check some of your basic assumptions. Try looking
at the oth folder as a WebFolder and verify that the
file is there and has the expected content.
Another thing you might consider is making a different
oth change that you can verify is taking place to
check whether the oth is actually reloading.
Also, if somehow the search criteria in the oth file
are messed up, then it might silently (without an error)
just not work, since, although it would be properly
loaded into the oth, the critera would never get matched
    at runtime.
I hope that gives you a couple of things to try to close
    in on your problem.
    Regards,
    Darin
