Links that close previous file

I have a PDF file that acts as a table of contents, and contains links to other PDF files. When a link is clicked on in the table of contents, the appropriate PDF file opens. However, the table of contents PDF remains open and I want it to close after a link to another PDF is clicked on. Does anyone know how to accomplish this -- to click a link in one PDF that closes the first PDF and opens the linked PDF?

Here is something to try.
Using the Link tool, access a link's properties.
In the Actions tab, select the Open a file action.
Select Open a file then click the "Add" button.
Select the target PDF file.
The 'Specify Open Preference' dialog opens.
There are three choices:
--| Window set by user preference
--| New window
--| Existing window
Pick 'Existing window' then click OK - OK.
Save the file & select the Hand tool.
Now click on the link.
The target PDF opens in the active window.
The source PDF is closed.
To confirm - while viewing the target PDF, select Window from menu bar.
Observe, at bottom of drop-down, that only one (target) PDF is "open".

Ability To Access Links That Open Separate PDF Files

I have an android device that I am using to view a PDF file. The directory structure is as follows
Folder 1
   Master PDF File
   Folder 2
      PDF 1
      PDF 2
      PDF 3
      etc....
The Master PDF File in Folder 1 has various links that will open various PDF files in Folder 2.
I am able to access links that link to other pages within the Master PDF File. The issue is that I am unable to access links that link to other separate files. Does Adobe Reader have this capability?

As of now Adobe Reader does not support links that open external files. We might support this in future releases.

Cant add a link to a network file to a new email

I'm having heaps of trouble - in fact finding it impossible - to add a FILE hyperlink into a newly composed email to send to recipients who can open the file.
The file is on THEIR computer network, not mine, and I use the UNC path for the recipient network. This works fine in Outlook and other email programs. file path similar to \\192.168.1.100\Share\File.exe
Have set this to true (about:config in TB) , with no added benefit:
mail.compose.dont_attach_source_of_local_network_links
The Hyperlink Insert toolbar icon does not have the FILE: option, nor does the advanced hyperlink editing tool allow me to change the link from HTTP (for example) to FILE.

I go to write in Thunderbird, I click in the insert >Link menu or toolbar icon.
I select a file in the dialog and I get a link that starts with
file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/
Now it is possible that if you use a UNC path you might need two more // but it is unlikely.

Please help me figure this out. I'm very unhappy at the moment. I'm fustrated and don't have any idea how to revert to the original version before the update was done on iMovie 10. I NEVER hated APPLE until NOW!! I love APPLE products and apps so please help me stay in that mindset. So I worked on some movie projects when I got my macbook pro 6 months ago. I update reguarly. I saw the update prompt and honestly, I did not think I would have ANY issuess with opening my previous files that I created only a few months ago with this updated version.The new updated version of iMovie 10 won't let me open my previous files I created before the update today. I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?

The CC Cleaner Tool assumes the Akamai Download Manager is activated and it has not. It seems to be the missing file that triggers the error message. \in a previous re-install I was prompted to download & install the Akamai Download Manger, but not this time. While setting up the links, if you choose to open the file in a new window then you won't face this issue, then you can simply switch to the previous file and bookmark view will remain as it is.

Files with broken links that only show in Smart Playlists

My issue is a strange one, so please bear with me. First - I've had the same iTunes library for several version of iTunes. That might have something to do with my issue. The issue is that when I create a Smart Playlist filtering for genre=podcasts, there are numerous files listed there with broken links. If I flip over to the Podcast category under my Library, these files do not appear. I'd like to delete these broken links, but since they only appear in a Smart Playlist I can't delete them from there. My feeling is that the iTunes library database just has some left over records from previous files. Does anyone know how to edit the library or is there some 3rd party utility that can clean up these hidden records for me?

The issue is that when I create a Smart Playlist filtering for genre=podcasts, there are numerous files listed there with broken links. If I flip over to the Podcast category under my Library, these files do not appear.
Podcasts are not put into the Podcast category by the Genre just as Audiobooks ar enot put into Audiobooks category by the Genre.
It is info in the file and when it is downloaded that makes it a podcast or audiobook.
Likely these podcasts are under Music.
Hold Option and click on the arrow next to the item name. This should take you to the item in the library, wherever it is.
Also, you can hold hold Option and press Delete. This will remove the item from the playlist and also delete it from the library.

How to Identify titles that have lost the link to the music file/folder..

Is there a way of listing all the Music titles that no longer have a valid link to the source file and deleting them. I am afraid in my previous inexperience i inadvertently messed things up while trying to organise... ehum... Anyway, trying to organise again hopefully with more success now. you need files 1 of 2 and 2 of 2, an exe and a 7z. download both, place both in the same directory and double click the exe.

Format the external drive as FAT32 or ExFAT. Both computers will then be able to read and write to it.

Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

How to avoid the annoying little window that opens when I go to close a file?

When I put my cursor near the x of a file tab to close a file, a little window opens over the x and I have to wait for it to dissappear before
I can click on the x to close the file. The window that opens has the exact same text as the folder tab and seems worse than useless. Is there a way to turn it off?

It should be real easy to install the latest ATI driver for the latest ATI mobility video card but that hasn't been the case with those with my computer. Computer stuff is never as easy for my as I think it should be. I'm probably and excellent candidate for Apple computers but I'm too cheap and old to switch.
My computer is Alienware's (Dell bought Alienware a couple of years ago.) latest and biggest, m18x, and it holds two ATI 6970m GPU's. There is a real good forum of users of this computer and many have problems installing video card drivers. That is why I wanted to leave well enough alone but some say the latest drivers perform better in games so I gave it a try. My first try was installing Dells recommended latest driver for the video cards in my computer. They installed but my computer refused to use them and it hinted that it didn't like the signature. I tried for a while to get it to work but gave up and went to a site recommended by one of the users in the forum and it downloaded fine and is working.

I’m using version 11.0.10. So where the Menu resides in a folder ready to be burnt on to a CD, that same folder is where the links point to.

Please check the Page Display preferences (File > Preferences/Acrobat > Preferences) and make sure that Show Large Images is selected. If sounds as though this PDF may have been created from a scanned document, and this preference is disabled.
