Links to External Websites Appearing in my Project

Hi,
Got a strange one here . . . it may be network related I guess, but I'm not sure.
I recently finished work on a large WebHelp project. When I outputed it to HTML I noticed that certain words have been 'hikacked' and used as links to external websites - webopedia.com being the most common:
<p class="DocsNormal" align="justify">Federated Instant Messaging (IM)
<a href="http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/F/network.html"><span style="color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;">networks</span></a>
allow communications across a variety of different IM <a href="http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/F/client.html"><span style="color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;">clients</span></a>
and <a href="http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/F/platform.html"><span style="color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;">platforms</span></a>.
A Federated IM network, has an open <a href="http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/F/directory.html"><span style="color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;">directory</span></a>
allowing other IM networks to message their users. Federated IM networks
often communicate using open standards, such as <a href="http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/F/XMPP.html"><span style="color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;">XMPP</span></a>.</p>
It's almost as if Google Adwords or some other site has taken over my document. These are certainly not links that I have put in; I generally only link to other pages within the same document and hardly ever go out to other sites. The only external links I have added to the project are for legitimate sites (Adobe and Avaya).
Has anybody else experienced this, and does anybody know how to stop it happening?
Any help or advice would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Alex

Hello again Alex
Okay, question here. The document you say is exhibiting the issue, did you create that document yourself? If not, then perhaps whomever created the document to begin with added these links.
I suppose that you could troubleshoot this by creating a fresh document. If the fresh document doesn't have the mysterious links, you can rule out any automated and nefarious forces at play. But if creating the document DOES seem to contain the links, you have other issues at play here that warrant further and deeper investigation.
By the way, is this content originating from a Microsoft Word document or is it just basic HTML pages?
Cheers... Rick

  • Bookmark linking to external website

    Hi everyone,
    I have a list of bookmarks that were created automatically from a table contents when I exported an indesign file to pdf. I need to manually add another bookmark in the pdf which I was able to do but I also need this new bookmark to be a link to an external website.
    I wondered if it was possible to do this and if so how I'd go about it?
    Appreciate any advice.

    It is, but only if you do it using a script, not through the built-in "Open a web link"-action. Add a "Run a JavaScript"-action with this code:
    app.launchURL("http://www.google.com", true);
    Of course, you can change the URL to whatever you want.

  • I cannot open mailto links in external websites.

    when I click on an email link in some websites, it says there is no application to open the mailto link. I went through the help menus, where I am asked to find the mailto feature and add an application. There is no mailto feature listed, so I can't link an application. It seems my firefox has no knowledge of mailto. I don't get a yahoo pop-up as others do. What do I do? I have Firefox 20.0.1and gmail and windows 7.

    See:
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Changing+the+e-mail+program+used+by+Firefox
    You can check the network.protocol-handler.external.mailto prefs on the about:config page.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config
    If network.protocol-handler.external.mailto prefs are user set (bold) then right-click and Reset them to the default value.
    You can also try to change the network.protocol-handler.warn-external.mailto pref to true.

  • Creating a link for external users to view my project

    Hi -
    I want to share my RoboHelp project with external users that do not have access to my company's internal server if I publish there. Is there a way to create a link to my project that I can just share with other people?
    Thanks!

    Hello again
    Are you clicking the "view result" link? If so, the CHM should simply open. However, there are a host of things that can go wrong along the way and to figure out what may be happening we need to ask all sorts of questions.
    Did you click View Result after it finished? If so, what happened? An error? Nothing? What?
    Where are you attempting to compile the help? When you look at the properties of your Single Source Layout recipe, where are you pointing the output folder to? What is the file name?
    Are you able to open and view other CHM files? Do you know what a CHM file is?
    As you can see, there are many questions to answer. And probably others I failted to think of.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Creating a link to external website

    Hello all,
    Could anyone confirm if its possible to create a link to mobile me gallery without creating a photo page with the mobile me gallery link on it?
    EG: I have the pages: Home, About me, Photos. I would like to link the photos page so it goes directly to my mobile me gallery instead of open the photo page.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Rob ~ Yes, it's possible...
    In your empty Photos page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    parent.window.location = "http://gallery.me.com/wintersgrass"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
    ...Once published, clicking on "Photos" in the navbar will immediately redirect to your MobileMe Gallery page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).

  • Why, after selecting it as a link to an external website, does the word disappear under a black box

    I would like to create a link to an external website.  But when I select the words and then type the url containing http:// in the "Link" field, the words disappear under a black box.  How do I correct this?

    Hello Nancy O:
        Without the link applied, the page looks fine in the browser.  But I am trying to figure out what is going on in the CSS file that would cause this.  When I move the mouse over the design view, I notice that outlines forming boxes appear.  They overlap the text that I want to create a link with.  I tried deleting a box that overlapped the text, but doing so didn't work. I tried increasing the z index, but that didn't work.  I tried applying an id instead of a class, but that also didn't work.  I'll keep working on the css file.  Thank you.

  • Command Link inside table to external website in popup window

    Hi,
    I am trying to have a command link inside a table which is on the tables id. I know that if I have control of the destination page I can use setCurrentRowKeyValue. However I do not have control of the external website. So I cannot add it into my faces-config.xml file? I have tried putting a GoLink and a GoButton but I get the following Illegal character in fragment error, when I put my destination URL in. An example of the format the URL is:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio?&music=#{row.PrimaryKey}&adf=123
    Where I am adding in #{row.PrimaryKey} which is the Id of the row. I would like to have the new page opened into a pop up window if this is possible.
    I am not sure if this can be done in the backing bean or whether my approach is the correct one?
    Many Thanks
    Steve

    something like...
    <af:goLink text="#{row.PrimaryKey}"
               destination="http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio?&amp;music=#{row.PrimaryKey}&amp;adf=123"
               targetFrame="_blank"/>Regards,

  • Track PDF Downloads without having to click a link - external website

    We want to track how many people download a particular document (pdf) on our external facing publishing website.  The PDF url is contained within a paper-based invoice they receive in the mail.  They then type in the URL to download the PDF brochure.
    Therefore, they are not clicking a link anywhere on the website but going directly to the PDF.
    We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager on our external website but they only track link clicks and not direct downloads of PDFs.
    Is there any way to find out how many times a PDF is downloaded directly?

    Sure, check out the iis log files or write some code that does that and counts the specific pdf downloads. I've written something that reads iis log files, maybe it can inspire you:
    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/The-SharePoint-Flavored-5b03f323
    Or, you can use the MS LogParser tool to analyze the iis log files

  • Wording has links to external, possibly phising / spam, Websites

    Good day. I have a slight concern.
    I have read about a guy's similar problem he had with his email, but I seem to have it when normally browsing and then also something else apart from the "Question".
    When browsing all websites using Firefox 19.0 (apparently my Firefox is up to date when I do an update check) {seems its not}, random words are highlighted, and when you hover over them, it gives a small pop-up to external websites, such as Insurance and XXX Content. I have been using Firefox for a very long time now, and never seen this before since recently. I do a virus and malware check regularly, and I have check of any extensions that may cause the problem (Have only Google Search as an extension). This is very annoying. My concern also, I have done some website development before, and now some of my work also has these Highlighted contend, which is confusing, as I have linked some words to additional internal pages. One of my big clients' website has these highlighted text as well, and some of these links link to XXX content, whats going to happen if a potential client of theirs (with little understanding of IT) sees these links (when using Firefox) arent they going to think {this people supports XXX Content} to gain revenue from advertising, wont this put them into a BAD light?
    Apart from my PC, i also have installed a virtual machine, with no other programs installed but Firefox, and it does the same!
    Question 2: A Specific Website I developed, seems to freeze when Installing Java Scripts, as It seems FF cant load the content. The script is just a basic Conveyor Belt animated Banner!

  • Links to External Files

    RoboHelp X5, WebHelp
    I have four hyperlinks (let's say, A, B, C, D) within my project to access external Excel spreadhsheets.  A copy of the files is located in the project folder(the one on my desktop). When the project is published to the server, only two (A&B) of the four links work.  To address the issue, I have to manually copy the Excel files to the server for the other links (C&D) to work.
    I want to determine why RoboHelp copies some, and not all, of the Excel spreadsheets to the server.  The settings for each of the hyperlinks appear to be identical, the only difference is that they're pointing to different files.  Links A&B consistently work when the project is published; links C&D do not.  What could be causing this issue?
    Thank you,

    Let's see here...
    You are using X5... So you might be encountering the"Baggage Bug". Seems you have to manually edit one of the RoboHelp HTML project files for getting past that. I believe our wonderful Mr. Peter Grainge has something on his site about it. Lemme go see...
    Ahhh yes, here it is.

  • Layer Source Text linking to external text. (no code in doc!)

    I've seen linking to text documents with code snippets in it.
    So that means the external text document must contain bits of scripting.
    I would like to link to txt documents (or csv) that do not contain code.
    Total noob users must be able to link a text to a After Effects project.
    I have a website data catcher which exports CSV values.
    It would be ideal if After Effects can hoover up the text and put certain pieces into certain source texts.
    We're talking automated sports cards here.
    Is this possible without adding code to a text dump?
    Or is this just impossible?

    The basic idea is to use something like this:
    myPath = "/c/test/txt.txt";
    $.evalFile (myPath);
    The text file does need to contain legal JavaScript code, but it could be as simple as this for a text layer:
    "this is a test"
    You generally want to wrap the $.evalFile() in a try/catch so that you can have an error string like "Not found." display if your path is bad, like this:
    myPath = "/c/badpath/txt.txt";
    try{
      $.evalFile (myPath);
    }catch(err){
      "Not found."

  • Links to Other Websites

    Hi -
    I am setting up a new website and am pretty new to this. I'm not sure if this can be done but can you create links to other websites (not just a page within my site)? i.e. Can I have a link to a friend's website?
    Thank you for the help!
    Regards,
    Pete

    Absolutely!
    Just create the object you want to use for a link (Text, object, photo, anything) and in the Inspector, go to the Hyperlink tab, (that's the white arrow in the blue circle) and check the 'enable hyperlink' box. There's a pop-up option list that appears, for what you want it to link to; and the default appears to be 'external page'. then just type in the http:// url and away you go.
    If you use text as your link, you can format it at to colour, rollover colour, underline or not, etc.
    Have fun!

  • I'm having problems loading web pages on a vmware workstation 6.05 guest OS using Firefox 3.5.9. I can ping external websites fine from the guest. No proxy. Any ideas?

    I'm having problems loading web pages on a vmware workstation 6.05 guest OS using Firefox 3.5.9. Also tried the latest 3.6 version. I can ping external websites fine from the guest. No proxy. Any ideas?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I installed a guest OS

    I'm using the same swear words as you. There are several threads about this problem - no answers.
    I have a LaserJet 8100N and 8150DN, get the 79.01FE error on the 8150 from print outs from Safari, Firefox, and Preview, for only some sites/documents. CNN.com has become my test site, seems I can crash the printer 90% of the time with their home page at any given time in the day.
    A summary of what I have tried:
    - Upgraded the firmware to the latest for both the JetDirect card and the printer.
    - Swapped the JetDirect cards between the 8100 and 8150.
    - Swapped ram on the 8150 board.
    - Disconnected external trays, bins, and removed extra RAM and hard drives from the 8150.
    - Tried setting the JetDirect link and matching switch port link to 100FD, 10HD, 10FD, 100HD, as suggested by a poster.
    - Tried having client's print to the printer through a XServer Print Server.
    - Can consistently create the error from multiple systems running 10.3.9, 10.4.5, and 10.4.6 (didn't have an install base of 10.4 before 10.4.5).
    Someone in the 'know' (which means they're likely not), said 10.4.7 will likely fix this. Being Apple has not even addressed that the problem exists (that I could find), I doubt the magic fix is a release away.
    Apple's software is triggering something that Windows systems appears not to be, so one could say it's an Apple problem; but ulimately it's HP's software/hardware that is at fault in that it is allowing their system to crash from input alone.

  • Follow up - DNS (internal domain has same name as external website)

    Hi,
    I am following up with on previous blog entry about resolving an domain internal name to an external website found here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/4d97325b-ff3a-4f46-ba6e-dc3f4ff978e1/dns-internal-domain-has-same-name-as-external-website
    On October 30, 2014
    HayashiTech provided a response suggesting the use of netsh interface portproxy on the DC's to resolve this issue. There has been no feedback to this suggestion and I am very curious what opinions are out there for this suggestion as it appears to be the
    best option provided yet.
    Thank you in advance as well for all the great guidance I have found provided by Ace and his followers.

    Interesting question. I've not seen that solution before, but having done a test on my lab setup it certainly seems to work as expected. Eg, using :
    netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenport=80 listenaddress=dc1.abc.com connectport=80 connectaddress=www.abc.com
    on my DC where I've setup a working external domain name with the www record pointing to the website, and the non-www record pointing to the DC, requests to the non-www address are successfully being redirected to the www address (after confirming it didn't
    happen prior to adding the portproxy).
    So on the face of it that does look like a workable solution. I haven't used it myself in anger obviously, but the two downsides I can think of immediately to this solution are :
    1) This operates as a proxy, so unlike the IIS method that Ace mentioned where it would tell the client to go to the www address instead (so the client connects direct), this method keeps your DC acting as a middle man, eg all communications to that address
    go through your DC rather than direct from the client to the website. Depending on what they're doing on the website this may or may not be an issue for you.
    2) Since the client is continuing to connect to the DC throughout, if you ever did need the have something on the DC responding to port 80 then you could have issues. That said, according to
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731068(v=ws.10).aspx the portproxy listenaddress can be a FQDN rather than IP, so that could mitigate any issues there.
