Links to pdf files created in DW not working

Linking a pdf file to an html page where the expectation is that clicking on the link will display the pdf file in the browser is common. A page that I created would not display my linked pdf files. Google searches suggest this is a common problem with perhaps a variety of causes.
I found that the solution to my problem was to remove my "mark of the web" statement. When this <!-- saved from url=(0014)about:internet --> appeared on my web page, pdf links would not open in my browser; when I removed the "mark of the web," all worked fine.

Personally I always download pdfs for offline reading.
I do, too.
As a courtesy, I always tell site visitors what they are clicking on and the file size.   If you want to force a download, you can zip the PDF file ahead of time, and post a link to the zip file.

I added preset motions to my interactive pdf file. It's not working when I export my file as an interactive pdf. It's working when I play it on the Preview panel. I must not be doing something right. Does anybody have any clue what I need to do to have my presets motions work when played on Acrobat

So do you mean export the whole document in a swf file format and then bring the whole swf file in and save it as a pdf file.  Is there way to export these motion presets seperately and bring them back into Indesign. I wish it was less difficult but I guess there is no way around it for the time being.

  • Why are some PDF files created in Photoshop not placing in InDesign CS5?

We are publishers and have used InDesign for over 9 years to create 36+ magazine issues per year.  We are currently using CS5 on 8 MAC stations using OS X Vers 10.8.5.  We are experiencing difficulty placing some supplied PDF files into InDesign documents lately.    We get the following error message when placing the offending PDF file:  "FAILED TO OPEN PDF FILE"
This is a new error message that has cropped up the last two months or so.   In Acrobat, the file will pre-flight without errors.  The files giving us the errors can be converted to Photoshop PSD, EPS or TIFF files and will place just fine.  Photoshop PDF files, however, will result in the error.
Can anyone give me an idea what might be causing this issue?  Thanks in advance!

    Most likely the crop options.

  • .pdf files created in Photoshop - Not all layers appear in Connect

So I have created a marketing flyer in Photoshop that contains images and text.  I save this out as a .pdf file and upload to Connect.  When I open the file, many of the layers, usually the text layers, are missing.  I've tried saving the original Photoshop file a number of different ways, like flattening, etc, and the .pdf file a lot of different ways.  But it still appears in Connect missing some of the text layers.  BTW, the original .pdf file is fine.

Understand that not all Adobe PDF features will translate completely in an Adobe Connect meeting if using the Share Document pod.
When you upload a Powerpoint or PDF file using that pod, the document is converted on the fly to Adobe Flash format so it can be streamed very efficiently. Not all features in Powerpoint and PDF files will convert to an equivalent look and feel when converted.  If you see inconsistencies, then try using a different font or font size. Some features just won't translate. Of course as new versions of Adobe Flash are released then more features will convert. So, beware that if you must have a document look exactly as it does in the native application you always have the option of screen sharing where no conversion takes place. Just beware when you use screen sharing you are using a lot more network bandwidth. It's a trade off but you do have a choice!

  • How to create link for pdf file in discoverer worksheet

    Hi All,
I would like to create a link for pdf file into discoverer report (worksheet).
So that i can open linked pdf file using worksheet link.
Can any one tell me about this?
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi,
I think the best way to do this is to use a database directory so that you can access your pdf file as a bfile. Then create a mod_plsql procedure that sets the mime type and downloads the pdf file. You then create a calculation in the EUL then returns the URL to your mod_plsql procedure. You can then include this calculation as a hyperlink in your worksheet.
It is not as difficult as it sounds. Please let me know if you need anymore details.

  • Pdf file created in Word 2008 will not open in Acrobat 8.2.6 or any other Adobe program

I have created a 12 page newsletter in Microsoft Word Publisher 2008 and have done so many times before with no problem. Today, I have tried to save it as a .pdf file both in Save As and through the printer. Each .pdf file created in Word will not open in Acrobat 8.2.6, Photoshop C3, Adobe Reader  nor any other Adobe software.
When I go to open it in Acrobat, my Mac gives me the spinning rainbow. If I try to click on the file, I get a watch and then Acrobat crashes or I have to force quit the software. I really need to convert this file and get it to the printer. Any advice???
    Mac OS X 10.6.7
    Word 08 12.2.8
    Acrobat 8.2.6
    Adobe Reader 10.0.0

    Here is a better example.
    https://www.calcerts.com/PBR1.pdf
is the original PDF file that is uploaded by a user.  Note that it is only 48kb in size.
I take the file, add a couple of watermarks and a footer for each page as well as a small image on the last page, add security on it and BAM, the file:
    https://www.calcerts.com/PBR1_AFTER.pdf
is now 1.5 MB and it takes a LONG time to print.
    Thoughts?

  • Print to PDF - using Snow Leopard (Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose

i have a PDF form that i created that is used as a custom proposal that my company sends out to potential clients. the form in its editable state is only used internally. we recently upgraded to snow leopard, but prior to the upgrade, we were able to fill the custom proposal form out using adobe reader, and, as you well know, we weren't able to save that edited document as a PDF with the custom form fields filled out. our work around using adobe reader was to print to a pdf using the adobe pdf printer in the printer dialog. with the addition of snow leopard, however, instead of choosing the adobe pdf printer, we were to choose PDF from the bottom left corner, then Save As PDF, and it would spit out an uneditable pdf that then allowed us to email it to the potential client without them being able to edit it as well as have an internal, digital copy for our records instead of having lots of paper floating around (i know this is also doable using security that disallows the client certain editing privileges, but printing to a pdf is much quicker and more efficient, and the pdf security isn't really that secure at its best).
in any case, i came across this gem of a post here on the support forums that installs another option from the PDF drop down on the bottom left of the print dialog menu that reads Save As Adobe PDF and is supposed to do exactly what i am trying to get it to do...print to a pdf file from adobe reader.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
once i updated to acrobat 9.2 (as the link above suggests 9.1), however, the Save As Adobe PDF does appear in the print dialog menu, but it still gives me the same error that acrobat 8 - 9 gave me while using Snow Leopard — Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save — and as i've already explained, you can't save an edited pdf form in reader (as i am the only one in the office with acrobat) and still keep the fields as you've entered them in. the only work around is to print to a pdf but is apparently having some recent problems.
using acrobat, however, i know that i can save the editable pdf as a new file with the fields customized as i have left them, but it still saves it as an editable pdf and the print to a pdf option still remains the best option...that way we have digital copies internally that are uneditable that can be printed at any time or emailed to the client.
how can i do print to a pdf, based on what i've written above, using snow leopard and acrobat and reader?

A simple way is to flatten the form fields, which converts the field appearances to regular page contents. You can do this with JavaScript or PDF Optimizer (Advanced > PDF Optimizer > Discard Objects > Flatten form fields). A very nice script that adds a custom menu item can be found here: http://www.uvsar.com/projects/acrobat/flattener/

  • Problems opening & printing pdf files created on a Mac

I am at my wit's end! I recently upgraded to a new version of Acrobat and suddenly a lot of my clients could no longer open my pdf files. I uninstalled the latest version of Acrobat and reinstalled an older version (Acrobat 8.1.3). Some clients started being able to open my pdf files but others could not. So I started using the Acrobat Share server and sending links. Some of my clients cannot open those either and many cannot print even if they can open the files that way. I personally also cannot print from the Acrobat Share server. The pdf files print out with all the surrounding graphics and application design elements. I also can't open the pdf files that I created on my Mac using my PC laptop running Vista. I have tried opening and printing both pdf files and the Acrobat Share links from my Mac and my PC laptop running Vista, to no avail.
I was under the impression that compatibility problems between Macs and PCs were largely a thing of the past. I was also under the impression that the whole point of exchanging pdf files was that pdf files are cross-platform compatible. Not only am I am losing tons of valuable time, I may be losing credibility with my clients (especially since I have an IT background). I desperately need to know what version of Acrobat I should be running on my Mac so that when I scan documents into my Mac, the pdf files that are created are completely 100% compatible with both Mac and PC operating systems regardless of what operating system and what version of Acrobat my clients are running. I also need to be sure that those same pdf files I create on my Mac can be seemlessly printed out from either a Mac or PC regardless of the operating system or Acrobat Reader version. If anyone can help me get to the bottom of this, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks.

This file downloaded and works fine for me in Preview on both OS X 10.5.7 and 10.4.11 (and opens in Acrobat Pro 9.1.1 and 8.1.5, and the latest version of Reader on both versions of the OS). As expected.
If you're printing from Acrobat.com by right clicking in the image area and selecting Print, don't. This isn't printing the PDF, it's printing the Flash frame that contains, as you've noticed, buttons and other elements. (Adobe's Mac Flash plugin is notoriously buggy.) Direct your clients to download the file by selecting the download button, not by right clicking and printing.
Again, your PDF file is fine.

  • Linking to PDF files in HTMLResources.zip file with Windows 8.1 Viewer

I have followed the instructions from 'DPS Tips' regarding creating a HTML Resources folder and compressing  the PDF files etc... It works on IOS Viewer but it doesn't work on Windows 8.1 Viewer.
Is linking to PDF files in HTMLResources.zip file  support for Windows Viewer?
    Thanks

I do not understand, you're telling me that if I set my default browser to Chrome on Windows 8.1, the Viewer works with, or does the Indesign Folio Preview works?

  • Links to PDF files with relative paths from a Captivate 4 project

I'm creating a presentation in Captivate 4 (I'm making an exe file) with some links to PDF files; the links are buttons with the 'open URL or file' set. The presentation will be distributed in CDs and obviously the links will not work for they point to an absolute path in my PC. Is there another way to display external files? thanks

"file:\file folder\filename" is not a relative path.  It's still an absolute path because you're specifying the path all the way from the root drive, whether you used a drive letter or not.
A relative path shows where to find the other file in relation to the file that is calling it.
    Relative paths look like this:
myDoc.doc (if the file is in the same directory as the file calling it)
folderName/myDoc.doc (if the file is inside a folder in the same directory as the file calling it)
../myDoc.doc (if the file is located in the parent directory above the file that is calling it)
../../myDoc.doc (if the file is located two levels above the file that is calling it)
    etc
Here's a tutorial that explains it better: http://www.communitymx.com/content/article.cfm?cid=230ad

  • Insert/link a PDF file in MM02 transaction.

    hi
I would like to know if it is possible to insert/link a PDF file in MM02 transaction.
    Please let me now something.

    Hi Vale,
I think that it would be possible to insert the pdf file to the MM02 transaction: Please try following the below steps:
    1) Follow the path : MM02 -> System -> Service for Object -> Create -> Create External Document (URL).
    2) You will get a popup saying "Create a link for Web page".
    3) Fill in the required details as per the requirement. Give the appropriate title, Location for the file to be attached ( Path ),
    4) Click on Execute button, SAVE.
Note: Please remember to provide the file extension like .pdf while attaching the file. Else the file wont be displayed when you try to display the attached file.
    Thanks
    Pawan
