Links to safari not working properly -- safari doesn't display page on top
I just did the latest upgrade.. but notice that if I choose a link from within an email - it opens safari - but the safari page is hidden by the email screen.. the safari page is not viewable without choosing it from the "window" menu item. At first I thought the links from email were not opening safari at all -- then realized that the safari page does open --but it does not come to the forefront of my screen - as it used to...
I called applecare and they recommended re-installing the update directly from their site - apparently a lot of issues with updating from the software update via apple menu. So I did - and have the same problem. my husband has it also on his macbook.
I discovered that it's tied to the "space preference". If I turn the space preferences completely off -- my links from email do open up correctly in safari. If I turn the preference on (not including mail as an application" - the problem resurfaces Which is that when I click on a link in an email - the page does not appear in the forefront in safari.... it gets "hidden" behind whatever page safari is displaying
Has no one else had this issue but me (and my husband). I don't really use the space preference anymore -- but this is definitely a new issue on my laptop.

Swipe between pages in Safari not working properly
Lion works perfectly so far, the only known issue I have is that Gesture in Safari to go Back or Forward does not work properly: Swipe between pages (Scroll left or right with two fingers).
it means I see the previous page under the actual page, but the task would not complete and it's like something blocking it to turn the pages. I hope you understand what I am saying. Anyone with the same bug? Any solution?
I've restored safari, cleaned the history and Reset it, restart computer, unselected the gesture option in Preference and activate it again, with no luck.I've had the same problem as feri. Dylanksf described the behaviour best - when two-finger swiping forward and back in Safari, the page moves slightly to the side, then acts as if it "catches" on something before moving further. The result is it's nearly impossible to swipe back and forward (although the 3-finger swipe still works). I don't have Flexiglass installed.
Usually I'm able to solve the problem by doing the following: (1) open system preferences and select "Trackpad"; (2) go to the "More Gestures" pane; (3) toggle the "Swipe between pages" checkmark and settings; (4) put the settings back to how you want them.
On some occasions, however, this doesn't seem to work. In that case, go back to the main System Preferences panel, choose "Universal Access", select the "Mouse & Trackpad" pane, and click on "Trackpad Options...". Then toggle the checkmark beside "Scrolling" off and back on, and make sure scrolling is set to "with inertia". This managed to solve my problem when the method above didn't work, and also resolved an issue I was having where the scroll bars were failing to automatically disappear when using the magic trackpad. -
Safari 5.0.4 - 'Reset Safari' not working properly?
I've been noticing recently that resetting Safari doesn't seem to work properly. I will reset Safari at least once a day, usually more. Then I will go on a website I haven't been on for days and I'll still be logged in, or I'll go another website that I haven't been on for a week and it will show a previous search I've done, and so on. I don't understand why as this never used to happen, I don't have any sites added to a safe 'don't clear history' list or anything like that. I have all boxes on the reset screen checked and always have done. I haven't updated anything recently so can't imagine what may have caused this. Also I have a new IP address every day so it shouldn't be that sites are recognising me from that. Any ideas what I can do about this?
I have 5.0.3 installed; my reason for coming to Discussions today is to check whether folks are having any issues with 5.0.4 before I install it.
I've noticed that storage of Cookies acts strangely in 5.0.3. You can't clear Cookies permanently (via Safari/Preferences/Show Cookies). They come back from the dead. Even with 'Never accept cookies' checked a Google Cookie is installed in next to no time. This never used to happen with 3.2.1 (I routinely cleared Cookies in this way and they stayed dead).
There was discussion about this in the thread, "Safari removed cookies reappear"
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13054062#13054062
After reading this page "Create Safari cookies that expire after each session" http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20031026012426123, I posted this comment in that thread:
I decided to remove all Cookies out of Cookies.plist via Reset Safari.
I ticked only 'Remove all cookies' in the Reset Safari pane then clicked 'Reset'.
The Cookie.plist 'Date Modified' changed to the time of this operation, so I presume Cookies were removed. (I should have checked file size before and after, but didn't think of this until after, currently it is 4KB.)
I returned to Cookies.plist 'Get Info' and locked the file.
This technique has worked well.
No Cookies are stored permanently in Cookies.plist
I just checked and Cookies.plist Date Modified is 08/02/2011 with 4KB File Size, so the File hasn't changed since I posted that comment on the other thread.
So Cookies are installed only for the duration of the Safari session. I often quit Safari on purpose during a session just to clear all Cookies before I, say, login to email.
I'm not tech savvy, so not sure if you could consider locking the .plist file for History or some other file as a way to work around Safari's latest quirk.
I don't like losing History and Cache (I find the different coloured icons of websites useful when selecting in Bookmarks lists; the icons all go with Reset Cache).
For login details, I have deselected the AutoFill option in Safari Preferences pane so no passwords are stored in the Keychain. This prevents Safari from remembering any login details, so I suspect that would overcome your problem with subsequent unwanted login to sites, but you lose the convenience of having details autofilled when you want to login somewhere. I don't mind, it helps to keep my brain cells working (remembering). -
Back Forward arrows not working properly Safari 5.1.2
After upgrading to Safari 5.1.2 on Snow Leopard, I have run into a bug with the back and forward arrows. Most of the time they are greyed out and not working. I have to move back and forward with either the keyboard shortcut or the menu. Sometimes one or the other starts to work, but it is not clear why. I have not seen both working yet.
Here is what comes up (a lot!). I feel like the days of "Conflict Catcher" with MacOS 9 and before! Anyway, it is late here, maybe where you are, too. Thanks for all the quick replies. I need to get some sleep and will come back to this in the morning.

Mail and safari not working properly
So i had not used my laptop in about a week because of an issue with safari that was driving me crazy. When i get to https sites (totally random) have a box to enter something like a cc number or address as i start to type safari gives me the busy wheel for infinity...let it sit for hours one day, never stopped. had to force quit. relaunched, same thing on the same box. cleared history and cache, rebooted and tried again..same thing.
happened on multiple websites on random boxes where i needed to enter some info, was always on a https site though.
Second issue, went to use my computer again, launched mail. none of my accounts are syncing. iCloud, exchange, gmail..all show most up to date from the last time i used it over a week ago. let it sit for hours, still no sync. got it to update by taking all accounts offline then back online. went to send a test message. hit the send button and mail locked up completely!!Date/Time: 2014-08-23 12:03:42 -0400

http://www.imagine-y.com/Clients/TrevorSite/Trevor4When you use the link pseudclass in your css it has to be expressed in the correct order.

It doesn't matter that you have not expressed all four but the three that you have still need to be that way.
Anyway, try it, we have nothing to lose!

SAFARI NOT WORKING PROPERLY AFTER SOFTWARE UPDATE
WHEN I GO TO A PAGE IN SAFARI, I HOLDS TRYING TO FIND THE PAGE. A FEW MOMENTS LATER IT STATES THAT I'M NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET (which I am). WHEN I REFRESH THE PAGE, IT IMMEDIATELY OPENS UP. THIS STARTED TWO DAYS AGO RIGHT AFTER THE SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR SAFARI. SOMETHING VERY BUGGY HERE. HELP
User "Bee" gave this solution. I tried it and worked for me, although Safari is loading very slowly.
Good luck!
See if you have any of the following files. Just follow the path.
HD/Library/Application Support/Conduit
HD/Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
HD/Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
HD/Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
HD/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
HD/Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
If you do, trash them and restart Safari. -
Trackpad in Safari not working properly + how to transfer passwords
I just switched to Safari from Firefox.
The trackpad seems to know the two-finger movement to go forward/backward, but it won't acknowledge the three-finger movement to go to the top/bottom of the page. It worked fine in Firefox, but not Safari. Any tips?
Also how do I get my user ids and passwords to transfer over from Firefox to Safari?
Thanks!HI,
As for the trackpad, post in the forum related to the model Mac you have. http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa
As for user names and passwords. That data cannot be transferred from one browser to another. You user names and passwords are stored in your Keychain Access application located in: Applications / Utilities.
And make sure in Safari / Preferences - Autofill that *user names and passwords* is selected. The next time you visit a site that requires you login, a new keychain will be created for you. Keep in mind, some banking and investment sites due to security, do not allow for autofill.

Safari not working properly since last software update
I updated my software a couple days ago and ever since, my Safari won't open most websites. It will, for some reason, open my VPN and work email, as well as a couple other sites, but will not open most normal sites (apple, google, facebook, gmail, etc). It will act like it's going to, then the blue loading bar stops at about the third w, and it eventually says "Safari can’t open the page "_" because the server where this page is located isn’t responding."
I have searched through this message board and tried a lot of things that were suggested for other people with similar problems (emptying cache, resetting safari, adding DPS addresses, disabling extensions, etc), but none of them have worked. It does the same thing when I log in under another user account.
My mail application also stopped working at the same time.
I would appreciate any suggestions.HI and welcome.....
It does the same thing when I log in under another user account. My mail application also stopped working at the same time.
Boot from your install disc and follow the instructions here to check the startup disk for errors. See, *Try Disk Utility*
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
If the startup disk "appears to be ok", then install the v10.6.5 Combo Update
Then repair permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

Links to files not working in Safari 5.1
I have an HTML document on my hard drive that links to various TextEdit files on my computer. It's a great shortcut tool. I click a link, and it instantly opens up the file in TextEdit.
However, I just upgraded to Safari 5.1, and now when I click these links, nothing happens. No error, no file opens, nothing.
Any ideas?See http://www.caminova.net/en/support/snow_leopard_err.aspx
There are a couple of DjVu applications out there that might be useful for viewing the documents outside of the browser. I have something called DjView on my iMac, and there's another named MacDjView listed at MacUpdate. (I haven't messed with DjVu in over a year, and I'm foggy here.) -
Youtube is not working properly Safari 6.0.1
Hello Experts,
I'm having issues to watch videos in Youtube using Safari 6.0.1 I have currently running on OSX 10.8.2.
Time to time youtube videos stop playing in the middle, it seems that it is a flash issue, but I'm also using the last version. I tried using chrome but the same issue appear.
Do you have any idea how can I fix this?
Thanks and REgardsThanks for reply chrisfromgastonia.

Safari not working properly with Yahoo
Even though Yahoo has a feature that allows you to stay logged in for 2 weeks, Safari is logging me out every time I close the browser. I used to be able to stay logged in, but now EVERY time I start up Safari and go to Yahoo to check mail, local weather or local news etc, I am required to log in.
This problem does not exist when I go to Yahoo using the firefox browser. I really would prefer using safari but the constant prompt to sign in is annoying. Any suggestions other than permanently switching to Firefox?
rjjAt least you can log back in. If mine requires a login, I have to reset Safari or restart my Imac.

Try forcing all applications to close and restart the device. Once this is done test using Safari. Also, try clearing out all Safari data and make sure Private Browsing is disabled via the steps in the second article below.

Safari not working properly.
When I want to access this site ,,http://themusicfire.com'' it shows me as if the site was down or not existing. It can not load the site. Before it was possible and very fast every hour of the day. Can somebody tell me if there are some bad settings made to the program or the Internet connection in my OS, or maybe it's from the Internet? I need help.
Double-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
themusicfire.com
Launch the Network Utility application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Network Utility in the icon grid.
Step 1
Select the Lookup tab and paste into the address field (command-V). Press return. Post the output that appears below – the text, please, not a screenshot.
Step 2
Select the Ping tab and do the same. Please enter the same input as you did in Step 1. Don't use the output of Step 1 as input to Step 2.
Important Note
Some web browsers and mail clients will automatically convert a domain name such as "www.example.com" to a clickable URL, such as http://www.example.com. That will interfere with the test. If necessary, edit the input in the Network Utility window to remove any added characters. -
Links using anchors not working properly to some people
on this site:
http://www.thevpp.ca
I used anchors to link the show ads on either side of the page to the appropriate section of the show page. This works perfectly in Safari, Firefox (on mac) and IE (on PC).
Our client and one other person have complained that the link to "GodSpell" opens "Heart & Soul" in the centre of the page instead of GodSpell, but I cannot duplicate this. I can't find out what browser / version / OS they're using as they don't know.
Clicking on the GodSpell image on the home page takes you to shows.html#b which is GodSpell. (Heart & Soul is shows.html#a)
They say the other show links work perfectly. I thought initially their browser might not support anchors, but if the others work, then I don't get why this one doesn't.
Is there a better way to link these images than using anchors? Could the problem be that the anchor links are within a ProjectVIII scroller?A few code errors to check:
http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thevpp.ca%2Fshows.html%23b
I see several problems. In Firefox 12, the only links that work consistently for me are "Love Letters" and "Sinatra". If I use the custom scrollbar and go all the way down to "Sinatra," the links don't trigger anything. Same thing happens in Chrome.
For an alternate approach, I created a named anchors demo (without tables). You'll see there is ample space between each of the named anchor regions (view page source to see the code).
