Linksys connections
I have a linksys wireless network set-up at my office. I would like to connect my mac to this wireless network. in the linksys connection window it shows me a WEP password for a mac. but when i use it my mac won't let me on the network. does anyone know how to solve this problem?
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

I purchased a Linksys E1200 and I am running Mac OSX 10.4.11. As I have a G4 eMac, I cannot run a higher operating software. The CD that came with the E1200 will not launch the Linksys Connect software, as it is not compatible with Mac OSX 10.4.11. When I download Linksys Connect software from the support section of the Linksys site (version 1 or 2), same problem. I have read that I can use the E1200 with Mac OSX 10.4.11, but how? Getting very frustrated and would appreciate any practical advice/help. Thanks!

Go to Solution.Hi bassist71,
You may actually do the setup manually. It's done by accessing the setup page of the route through 192.168.1.1 and configuring the settings according to your Internet connection type. If you have a Cable connection, you may check this link, http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=0ff4c94586a345d082828ec2161aaecf_3686.xml&pid=80&r... If you have a DSL connection, check this out, http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=9017a6f6bece444dbb4a0746eb87682a_2210.xml&pid=80&r... -
Re-installing Linksys Connect on laptop after new hard drive installed
I have a E4200 router and had Connect loaded on my laptop. My hard drive crashed and needed replacement. I had no problem signing on to my WiFi once I got the new hard drive installed.
With the new hard drive, I now do not have Linksys Connect installed on my laptop. My question is: Can I re-install Connect with the router running perfectly well or will re-installing Connect with the router already up and running cause me problems?
Thanks for any help.

Inconvenient Feature in Linksys Connect
I found a very annoying "feature" in Linksys Connect...
When I set up my Router, I wanted a relatively LONG password for my wireless WPA2 / AES configuration
but wanted a relatively short easy to use password for for browser access (192.168.1.1) ... I think that the reasoning is obvious.
In most cases once you set the WPA2 password, you do not have to "go back" to it... but the "human" access to the Browser utility will usually mean a shorter password.
When I first set up my E1200, I was able to do JUST that.. have a 26 character password for the Browser access while having a pretty hellacious looking [LONG] password for WPA2...
Unfortunately, I just found that if you then open up Linksys connect, you will get a message INSISTING that you change your Router (short) password to the Wireless (much longer) password...
This is an extremely annoying and unnecessary job step.... Has anyone else had this issue?
--ZviOf course that is "how the software works" -- but it seems to be a rather stupid design. In effect, the Linksys Connect feature iposes an unreasonable "rule" in its use -- making it FAR LESS user friendly than it should be. More important -- there appears to be NO logical reason for such a "rule"... and as such, it should be treated like a BUG (or a "Design Flaw") and FIXED rather than simply keeping an inconvenient "Status Quo" in place...

Old ciscoconnect or linksys connect availabe for ea6100
hi, is it possibe to install the old cisco connect or linksys connect for Ea-6100 instead of the new linksys smart wi-fi. the parental control on smart wifi linkys doesn't goes good and i prefer the old version. where can i dowload the old version thank you
I don't think it's possible to load the old Connect (Cisco/Linksys) software to the EA6100 router since the EA6100 router is pre-loaded with a Smart Wifi firmware, which is compatible with the Smart Wifi setup only.

Router problems. Multiple Linksys connections
I am having an issue with one of my computer connections to my Linksys WRT110 router. I am using a WUSB100 USB adapter on my HP computer with Windows Vista. I set up one connection to the Router initally and just used the default Linksys router name. It was working fine but now it is always disconnected and when I look at the connection it is connected to Linksys 2 3 4 or some other weird linksys router that are all really my Router. When I look for availible net works it lists my original Linksys router but there are all these LInksys 2 linksys 3 and Linksys 2 3 4 routers too. They are not other linksys routers in the hood they are all comming from my router. how can i get it to connect to my Linksys router only instead of connecting to these other connections that it seem to be renaming itself.
On your computer click on Start - Control Panel - Network and Sharing center and then under task click on "Manage Wireless Network" and in the preferred network list remove all the networks and then close that window... Now again in the Network and sharing center window... click on Connect to a Network and search for your wireless network and try to connect to your network... Once connected to your network check if you are Online.

I have a linksys WRT54G wireless router. I use it for my macbook and two other imacs at home. The internet speed (i mean the time it takes to load a web page) is so much slower on my macbook than on my imacs. I think it is a configuration problem. I typed in the router on my web browser and tried to secure my network (WEP). I typed in a password and clicked generate, and i was given a really long sequence of numbers and letters. Now, i dont know what my password is. Is it what i typed in, or the number generated? I am using another open wireless network because linksys is so slow. but now, I can't even switch to linksys! I've tried numerous times. When asked for the password I typed in both the password I provided and the one I was given. I get the message "error joining the airport network linksys." I opened system preferences and under airport settings, then security, I changed it from WEP to none to see if that would make linksys once again an open wireless network. That didnt work. So now I dont know what to do and why I can't even connect to linksys anymore.
I connected an ethernet cable to my macbook and the router and I was able to connect to linksys and change my settings. But there is just something wrong with my router. For the past two days I have not been able to connect to linksys and sometimes linksys does not even appear on the list of networks. The settings appear to be normal, so I don't know whats wrong now.

Linksys connection dropped after 10 mins
Hello, everyone.
I'm having a problem with my wireless router. As stated in the title, when I turn it on in the morning (I turn it off every night), it works fine for about 10 minutes, then my wireless computer will get knocked offline (the one connected directly to the router is fine and stays connected). If I reset the connection, it takes a full 2 or 3 minutes to connect (with internet abilities).
Background information:
Router: Linksys WRT54G2 V1
Computer: Dell XPSM1530 Laptop; Vista Home Premium
Please advise on what the heck to do!
Thanks
S. Wynterswell the first thing you should do is perform a firmware upgrade on your linksys router. Below is a link for you to follow.
www.linksys.com/download
After the firmware upgrade you should perform a factory reset by holding in the reset button on back of the router for 30 seconds. This will erase all previous settings, so I suggest that you write down your settings so that you can manually enter them back into the router.
Also, I would see if there are updated drivers for the wireless card at the manufactures website. See if that helps
Good Luck

Linksys connection help: Router WRT54G
Hi,
I currently have a wireless routher WRT54G and have had it for about 4 years now. Ever since purchasing it, I have frequently had problems with its connection. It will randomly stop connecting to the internet. I know nothing is wrong with the modem or the actual internet, because connecting directly to the modem allows me to regularly search the internet.
I have called the linksys technical support/customer service several times and they refuse to help me at all, or even let me speak with a technician unless I pay a $32 extended service fee, because apparently my warranty has run out. So if anyone at all could help me solve this problem and be able to reconnect to the internet using the wireless router, because linksys representitives are utterly useless, it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advanceAre you saying that when using the router with a cable to your PC you have no problems reaching the internet, BUT when you use a wireless connection to your PC you have an intermittent connection to the internet?

Hi... first time posting.. anyway.. i have a linksys router.. the generic one they sell at walmart... you know.. the WG.. im too drunk to get the name from downstairs(wireless G, two antennas)... anyway.. it constantly loses the internet.. it will sometimes show that i have limited access.. although, most of the time when it messes up it shows nothing... i can go to windows mobility center (vista) and disable and enable my wireless card a few times.. and eventually, it will show there is an internet connection.. (because there is), i just wonder... why does it lose the ability to detect and use my dsl connection? .. sometimes if something (my ps3 or my computer) terminates weird (im lazy, turn it off with the 7 second kill or the dreaded try to used two devices at once... ) it will sometimes go into.. well... i can only describe it as a 'state' which it cannot find the internet.. after a while (and some serious messing around with it) it can find the internet and connect... sometimes tho.. i have to reset it to default to make it work... and it only works after i try repeated connections to it on my laptop.. (i know this because ive done it... alot) whats wrong.. and how can i make it keep a good internet connection all the time.. regardless of whats connecting disconnecting from it...? Any insight would be appreciated.
My Router WRT54G just started losing it's Internet connection yesterday for no appearent reason. Local network works but cannot connect to Internet via Cable Modem.
Direct connection via Cable modem connects to Internet. Cable Provider reports connection to both Cable Modem and Router Okay.
Wireless and Wired connection via Router fails. Multable computerers and devices wireless including Xbox and PS3 (both off when internet lost).
Powering down both does NOT reastablish connection.
Returning to "Factory Defualt" does restore connection.
Today, connection was fixed with "Restoring a saved Configuration". Less hassel as configurations do not need to be changed with this.
I would like to find the cause and a permanant fix before the kids lynch the 'System Administrator' (me) when they loss the Internet. -
Linksys connection problems (ready to throw the thing out the window)
I own a G4 powerbook OSX 10.3.9. and use a WRT54G v5 router. Everything was working fine up until a week ago. Now, I am CONSTANTLY losing my connection and because of this, I have to reboot the router every day. Even then the signal only works for a few hours. I've upgraded to the latest firmware and that hasn't helped.
I'm at my wits end here and don't know what to do. It's so very frustrating. Can anyone make any suggestions? I'm seriously ready to throw my powerbook out the window.
Thanks in advance!Hi-
Welcome to Discussions!
So, what happened about a week ago? There has to be something that happened to cause this trouble. Did you have a freeze/crash? Hard shutdown? Kernel panic? Did you install something other than firmware? Any security updates?
Unless you have cleared your logs, you can look at your system logs (Console/logs/system.log and ppp logs (in Console/logs/var/log). you may find a hint as to what started occuring around the time of your troubles beginning.
It could be a DNS problem, and the following link has an in depth discussion and fixes, regarding such:

Help setting up linksys E2500 with OSX 10.9.5 - no connection
I just received a new linksys E2500 router to set up with my RCN service.
My MacBook Pro is running OSX 10.9.5 and I know I cant use the linksys connect software to set it up but I am having no luck setting it up manually. Neither my laptop or my phone (iPhone 5S) can see the router when it is plugged in. Trying to connect via 192.168.1.1 doesn't work - says there is no internet connection if wired to router, if hardwired to modem it just spins. (I have tried via Safari, Firefox and Chrome) When I hardwire modem-> computer my internet is fine. but when I connect router to modem and then hardwire from router to computer via ethernet ports, my laptop says nothing is connected via ethernet.
I have a technician from RCN coming later this week, but I really want to get this working sooner. Any help would be appreciated!MariaVII wrote:

Where did it say that? Network Diagnostics?
First contact your ISP. You need to confirm that the issue is not on their end.
Change your router channel. Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router. Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.
System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
Unlock the padlock
Locations: Automatic
Highlight Airport
Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock. Highlight Airport. Network Name-select your name. Click on the Advanced button. Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined." Click the OK button and lock the padlock. Restart your computer.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1920 Mac OS: How to release and renew a DHCP lease
No internet connection (wireless)
Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).
Delete all extra entries that you find.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."

Cannot get Windows 7 x64 laptop to connect to AIRONET 1140 WAP
I recently changed the configuration of my Aironet 1140 from WEP to WAP2-Enterprise to make it more secure. I am using the WAP as the radius server. After making the change I connected my Blackberry to the wap as well as a Samsung Chromebook. However when I tried to connect my HP laptop it is unable to connect. Watching from the Aironet's console I see that it is processing the association and windows ask me to enter my uid and password. When I do this I get an authentication error. I have tried several times adjusting parameters on windows but it always fails. Here is the configuration of the WAP:
