Linksys e3000 occasionally suddenly rebooting and/or disconnecting due to overheating

I recently purchased a Linksys e3000 router and was experiencing intermittent disconnects and reboots (about once every 5 minutes).  After digging through several forum posts I was able to discover that the router was most likely overheating. I felt the bottom of the router and found that it was indeed very hot, so I placed a fan next to it and exposed some more of the ventilation.  Its been about an hour so far but it appears to be performing fine.

When any electronic device reboots on its own, it is almost always overheating, or has a virus. Since this is a router, you could try upgrading firmware, and then doing a proper hard-reset, by holding in the reset button, unplug the power (while still holding in reset) and then replug in the power. Continue to hold reset button this whole time for 30 seconds, then release, and configure router.
If problem continues, just return it or buy another.

  • IPad 1 64GB wifi+3G suddenly rebooting and asking for activation

Using an iPad 1 64GB wifi 3G and suddenly asked to activate again.
Activation failed and now my iPad randomly reboots. Tried resetting and doing a factory restore (from iPad and from iTunes).
    Help please?

Not sure really if that has to do with it, I can't get back into my iPad. I made the mistake of putting that pinball app back on my iPad after resetting it and shortly after I did that the problem started again. Some have suggested it might have to do with iWorks.
How were you able to finally get into your iPad?

  • Occasional resets/reboots and black screens

    Hi everyone....
I have a slight problem with my computer that I hope that you people can shed some light on...
Most of the times it happens when I´m running a game (mostly BF1942), but it has happened when I´ve been using "normal" windows programs (like word, VB6, photoshop etc.)
The difference is that when I´m playing a game and the computer resets it exits the game and drops me on the desktop.
When it resets and I´m not in a game but only another windows prog, it will reboot the computer
O yes, the monitor. It can fade out both in windows and in-game
The monitor "clicks" and fades to black, then it comes back after 1-2 seconds.
I´ve been thinking that it might be a problem with my PSU (especially regarding the monitor issue since the G-card need it´s share of the power)  but I´m also started to think that it might be the memorys that´s making this problem.
    Any ideas??
(I just noticed that my memory settings isn´t on my sys.info, so I will update that when I come home from work)

Well I must say that by Far, the Best PSU for the Money $99.00 US, is the Enermax 465 EV (I just bought one myself) and you can Even get an Enermax with Dual +12V Rails ..Thats Right +12V-1 (For the System) and a +12V-2 (Just for the CPU).....And I have had Nothing but Members PMing me to that me for Pointing them in the Direction of the Enermax 465 EV>> This Guy Really Liked his New Enermax >  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=41492&sid=    ..Or you have $200.00 + US to spend, You can get the Absolute "Best" PSU at http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com  and get the "Turbo Cool 510W Deluxe... • IMac suddenly reboots and most app quit functioning properly

    Hi,
i think I can link the following to updating Skype to the latest. After install, iMac rebooted abnormally with problem reporting window. It actually rebooted at leaat ten times in a row. Even when I wanted to shutdown it would reboot (thus restart on its own). Then I realized that Twitter would open an problem reporting window but would not start. Same for Thunderbird. iTunes re-initialized with no content. I then started adding some album to library and stopped after some ten albums. I quit-ed it, renamed the iTunes folder (where the library xml sits) and restarted iTunes with the ten albums still there. Then added the library xml as playlist which it digested but still not recreating the iTunes folder at its original place. Where is it? iPhoto asked to repair the library but got stuck in the middle of the process. No idea whether I would loose photos. I am completely puzzled by the behavior. What could have gone wrong? Is that a virus?
My configuration includes an SSD (with OSX Yosemite and Apps) and an HD (for data). I have been backing up on a Time machine. Can I re-image the machine as it was, i.e. SSD and HD, automatically from the Time machine? What is the process?
    Thanks for your help.
    PIerre

Thanks Linc. There are loads of entries in the left tree. A lot of .diag, .crash and some .awd.
Below I list the panic report I had saved yesterday (though I do not see it in the "DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports" list) as well as the first .crash I see at the bottom of the list. I wanted to list all files via Terminal but Terminal refuses to launch.
I shall launch in safe mode.

  • Airport Express and WPA2 on Linksys E3000 Router

I'm running MS Windows Vista. I have a Linksys E3000 router and an Airport Express both with updated firmware.
I have segregated my wireless network: My Xbox is on the N-speed band by itself and everything else, including my iPhone 4, is on the g-speed band.
My wireless network works with full Internet access but I can't connect my Airport Express to it. I need help connecting my AE to my existing wireless network so I can stream iTunes music from my PC to the AE.
According to this link: http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/specs.html "When joining an existing wireless network, AirPort Express supports only WPA-Personal. WPA2 requires a Mac computer with an AirPort Extreme Card and Mac OS X v10.3 or later"
So I went to my router settings and set up my g-speed band for "WPA-Personal." But when I do that, my g-speed band ceases to work. I cannot connect my iPhone 4 to it and my iPhone has no trouble connecting when the security is set for "WPA2-Personal".
The Aiport Utility (v 5.5.1) will not detect the AE wirelessly. When I connect the AE via ethernet to the router, I can configure it with Aiport Utility and it will stream iTunes music over the wireline network but then when I disconnect it, I can't detect it wirelessly. I've tried using the setup wizard and the manual setup. I've also reset the AE to it's factory settings and started again with no luck.
I've spent hours trying different settings and I am not sure how to proceed. Please provide any feedback you may have.

Most likely you entered the password a year ago when you first set up the AirPort Express (AX) and you checked the option to store the password in your keychain. If you do that, the Mac will never ask you for the password again.
Open Keychain Access and see if you have an item with the name of your wireless network.

  • I was downloading podcast video in my itouch using wifi, but suddenly my wifi got disconnected and now there is a link in my podcast list which on opening uses wifi to play that video. I want to delete that link. Right to left swapping is not working.

I bet this is too late but...
Are you trying to print through the airport express wirelessly or the built in wireless of the lexmark? If you want to use the airport express, there is no need to mess with the wireless printing on the lexmark at all. The airport express will be easy to set up, all the wireless setups through the printers are a pain.

verify on another Mac if the same
WD is having issues with mavericks as you can see on the WD forum, did you install any WD software (never do that) when you connected the drive for the first time?
possible issue is a dead SATA bridge card or the new WD firmware w/ Mavericks.
    SATA card issue
Your dead external hard drive is likely fine! Great hope for your 'faulty' external HD

  • My iPod touch crashes. There is no rhyme or reason as to when the crash occurs. It will not reboot until reconnected to a power source. Once connected to a power source, it reboots and works well. When disconnected it will work then crash again.

My Ipod Touch 4th generation (8gb, iOS 5.1) crashes for no apparent reason. There is no rhyme or reason to when the crash occurs.
Once it crashes, the only way to reboot the iPod is to connect it to an external power source (computer or AC outlet). Once connected, it will reboot and operate normally.
When disconnected from the power source, it will operate for a variable periods of time (maybe minutes, maybe hours) then crash again. It can't be rebooted until again attached to an external power source.
Has anyone experienced a similar situation? Thanks for your help.....

I hate to let you down. I live a long way from any Apple store, so I returned the iPod to the seller. I really don't know if I'll buy another.
I know it's probably an isolated incident, but this kind of experience leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

  • Mac SUDDENLY reboots continuously and displays apple logo that is half blue and half gray

I was surfing the web and my Mac goes black and reboots unexpectedly. I say OK, fine.....gray screen comes up then a Apple Logo that is half Blue and half gray appears with a graduated progress bar under the logo......it progresses half way then reboots and repeats-over and over again... I turned the unit off completely to cool off and give it a break.
I disconnected the ethernet cable and a few preipherals.
I am about to re-start in safe mode but wanted to bounce this here first.

Well I took it to the GENIUS BAR and they have to replace the logic board which wont be in until Friday which *****....I am so glad i have APPLE CARE. is all I can say...I am also so very happy this isn't a WINDOWS BOX situation because then there wouldn't be TIME MACHINE. I may or may not have to restore from backup but it is there is I need it....so I will have to re-install all 3rd party software....but hopefully all the data will be there somewhere.....
thanks for everyone's help during moments of panic...

  • HT4623 Updating to ios 6 went fine, but suddenly yesterday I lost all speaker capability. Can't use speaker phone, can't hear iTunes playing thru speaker either. What's up? I've done a soft "reboot" and a reset, still no speakers. Thoughts?

I've got a real love/hate relationship with Apple right now. I love my iphone 5, but I'm hating the bs you have to go thru to get help. Everything was great, fine, wonderful on ios6 till yesterday when suddenly I lost speaker capability. No speaker on calls, no speaker on Siri, no speaker on dialing, no speaker on iTunes. A soft reboot and a reset did nothing to change things.
A quick peek at other Apple forums shows this is likely a software issue in ios6, so does that mean I just have to wait on Apple to come up with a fix?

You can back up (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766) and restore (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414) your iPhone in iTunes.
If it is a software issue, the restore will resolve it.
If speaker doesn't work after that, it's a hardware issue, and the device needs to be serviced.

  • IMac suddenly chimes, and reboots itself repeatedly

can anyone help? My early 2008 iMac suddenly reboots itself, chimes, but then screen does not come on. I can hear the disk spinning, but no video, and the mouse and keyboard dont have any effect.
Afetr a while, it suddenly responds to the power button, and then reboots itself randomly. Been happening randomly now for long, and its driving me crazy!!
    Any idears anyone please.....??

Try using Apple Hardware Test on your iMac it sounds like a video or RAM problem.

  • Sometimes my iPad1 locks up and has the flat battery graphic after charging all night, but will not work until you disconnect the charger, then it reboots and the battery is fully charged and works normally

Sometimes my iPad1 locks up and has the flat battery graphic after charging all night, but will not work until you disconnect the charger, then it reboots and the battery is fully charged and works normally.
It has only happened for the last month or so
Also, sometimes it drops out of apps, ie facebook etc. just like you have hit the stop button

Who replaced the battery? If it wasn't Apple the replacement is probably bad also. Either that, or the logic board is bad.

  • Cisco Linksys E3000 - Open DNS Error

I just purchased a Cisco Linksys E3000 and got it set up pretty much the way I want it. My only remaining problem is I wish to used Open DNS as my DNS server. On Line chat support says,"Please access router set up. Under the set up tab you will see the option for DNS1 and DNS2 please change it to 208.87.222 & 208.67.220 and save settings". I replied"I am on the basic set up page and currently I see Static DNS 1 thru 3 which are currently all zeros is that where you want me to put the new DNS numbers?"
I made the changes as directed, saved and also flushed the DNS cache in Windows and in Firefox, rebooted and everything worked great.
The problem is if the computer goes to sleep or is shut down when it restarts it cannot find the DNS server! What am I missing?
    Thanks

Thanks for your help. This one really has me baffled
As you can see below the static DNS is set to 3 adddresses for Open DNS and everthing works fine.untill either the computer goes to sllep or is shut down. Then the router can no longer locate a DNS server. The only way I can find to get everything working again is to zero out the address for Open DNS and reboot the router which somehow reestablises the DNS servers as:

                                           156.154.129.11

You can also this below and I hope you have some idea of what is happening. I never had this problem before with any other routers on this system.
    Thanks,

  • Linksys e3000 firmware update FAIL

I am trying to install the latest firmware (downloaded from cisco site) on our E3000.
I downloaded this file from their site....
I am using a Windows 7 Toshiba laptop.
    Model name: Linksys E3000
    Model number: E3000
    Firmware version: 1.0.03 build 2
Operating system: Windows 7 SP 1
    Software version: 1.3.11006.1
    Connection type (WAN): DHCP
This is the downloaded file I am trying to use
This is the message I get immediately.

To safely update FW, I recommend doing the following:
    1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
    2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.
    3. Reload or Update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your local wired LAN PC.
    4. Factory reset the router and then set up from scratch first and test with out loading the saved config from file.

    Hi,
I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada and when I try to use Siri it loads and loads and then says, "I'm really sorry about this, but I can't take any requests right now. Please try again in a little while."
I rebooted and it didn't fix the problem. I just got my iPhone 4s (unlocked right from Apple) several weeks ago.

Siri has been a bit more erratic than usual in the last week or so. Apple has announced a major announcement for 9/12. Conclusions are left to the reader.
    Best of luck.
