Linksys E4200 - AP mode?

Ok,
I've recently installed an E4200 wireless router, hoping I could set it up in an Access point mode.  As far as I can tell there is no way to do this.  Does anyone know if this is possible?  I'd like my wifi devices to get dhcp from my wired lans dhcp server, and I'd REALLY liek to be able to connect to these devices from my LAN.  I could have sworn in previous WRT models it was possible to tell the thing to act as just an access point and not a router.
Also, I need to figure out how to get back into the **bleep** thing as well, it's in a remote location and I can't talk to the router or anything that's behind it (but they can talk to my side).  This makes sense, and I'm pretty sure I need someone at my remote location to actually put their hands on it (or, maybe start a webex, have someone on that side join, and just work from there)

This what I did and it works perfectly:
E-4200 as AP
WNDR 3700 as router
on WNDR 3700:
disable PNP
Disable 2.4 and 5.0 wireless
Set up DHCP reservations on 11 connections
DHCP 192.168.1.2 - .198
enable IPV6
on E-4200:
LAN out to LAN in on WNDR3700
Disable DHCP
Set router ip at 192.168.1.199 (Set IP OUT OF DHCP range of the WNDR3700)
Disable NAT
Set up wireless with WPA-2 AES
disable PNP
Passes stealth on Shields up, I can access all shares including a wireless printer.
Lightning fast! IPV6 also works perfectly.

  • Mac mini server, Snow Leopard, Linksys E4200, 802.11n

    Hi,
I have mac mini server and wifi router linksys e4200.
Something goes wrong after software update on mac mini. For clarify I updated a firmware on E4200 too but I think that is not a problem.
Now I can't get full speed from 802.11n mode.
My download speed extemely decreases from 160Mbit(always before update) to 27Mbit
My router supports 3 modes of 802.11n
    1. Mixed
    2. Only Wireless-A
    3. Only Wireless-N
It always was in mixed mode on 802.11n befare. That's mean it supports b/g/a/n
I switched it to 'Wireless-N' and can't get it work. My mac mini shows me the wifi network but it can't connect to that network.
Then I turned my router in Wireless-A. Now I can connect to wifi network but my download speed always no more 27Mbit
Also these results I see in Mixed mode.
As I understand my N mode does not work.
Another strange thing the System profiler shows me that my AirPort does not suppor N mode.
    How to fix it?

  • Linksys e4200 port forwarding

I need some help with port forwarding for Minecraft application (port 25565).
I use modem and router to connect to the internet.
When I connect my PC directly to modem port forwarding is working.
When I connect my PC through my router  the port is closed. I followed instruction for port forwarding.
I disabled Windows firewall, antivirus etc.
Any idea how to open those ports for linksys e4200 please?

If you're technically comfortable in getting to your Linksys settings - try changing the network mode or channel in your router's settings.
I still use my old Linksys router and when it's set to the default channel, which is 7, my Macbook Pro and Macbook Air sometimes have issues - changed the channel to 9 and have had no issues since.
Maybe it might work for you.
In any event - screenshots below are for your E4200 and play with those settings and see if any of the changes you've made improves how your Macbook connects.  Before you change any settings, just remember what the old settings are in case you need to go back to your old settings.
    Good luck.

  • Linksys E4200: How to access USB hard drive remotely from Android phone or computer

    Hello.
I just purchased a Linksys e4200 router today along with a WD 2TB MyBook hard drive. My intent is to set these two up together so that i can share files on the hard drive with:
Computers on my home network ( 1 Windows 7 desktop wired, 1 windows 7 laptop wifi, 1 XP netbook wifi)
    Computers remotely over the internet
Smartphones (Android and Apple) on my home network
Smartphones (Android and Apple) remotely over the internet
    My questions are:
Can all of this be done with the E4200?
Has anyone in the communiyt forums set-up remote access for fileshare with smartphones?
What is the easiest way to set-up and configure this?
Does anyone have experience using the WD MyBook Essential (WDBACW002OHBK)? Does it work well with the E4200?
Thank you in advance for all responses and help.

    Hi,
Major concern in your case now, seems like is all about accessing the data from that Shared Hard Drive remotely over the internet....
For that very reason, we can use either of the two ways to access the shared Hard Drive or Network Hard Drive remotely....However, for both the ways, we need to have a public IP address coming in from the modem...(192.168.X.X....172.16.X.X....10.X.X.X...are examples for Private IP, rest all are public IP's)
One of the ways to get this done is through the WAN IP that you are getting from Modem on your connected Cisco Router's status page....Open the set up page with http://192.168.1.1 , go to Status tab - look out for WAN IP - should be a public IP address not a private one....,then so as to access it, you have type in http://wanip:sharename....
Other way round to do the same is via getting the WAN IP converted to the domain name, this is done via dynamic domain naming system (refer to http://TZO.org) in which we converts our WAN IP into a domain name, which will continue to update the ever changing public IP address (WAN IP) on the daily basis....then so as to access it, you have type in http://domainname:sharename.....

  • New Ipod Touch 5g can't access Internet in home network (using Linksys E4200 router). But, OK with other Wifi.

Just bought new Ipod Touch 5g. I found out it can't access Internet in home network. not really cannot access, but very slow to open any web page, App Store failed to access, etc. But, OK with other Wifi (office & starbucks). Others existing iOS devices (Iphone4 & Ipad2) have no problem like this. I'm using Linksys E4200 router at home. anyone has any idea why?

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Not enough port fields in port forwarding for Linksys E4200

I have always used netgear routers in the past. After a series of issues regarding configurations not working correctly I invested in what appeared to be a semi pro router, the cisco linksys e4200.
I have a centralized server which I use to access a mass of different services such as mail, dns, VPN, FTP, Kerberos, http and many more. While I am not a massive networking nerd, this server setup is like my garage project. To access these services externally to my LAN as far as I understand I would need to configure port forwarding for each service to my server. Unfortunately the control panel for the linksys E4200 only offers about 15 custom port fields for forwarding, and some documentation I have read shows that with it's basic install my server could be using up to 60 ports at once.
Is this router just not suitable for this sort of network. If so I will be very disappointed because I have spent a quarter of the price on netgear routers with more control than this.
If anybody could assist with details and options I would greatly appreciate it

Wrong forum, use "small business routers".

  • Linksys E4200 is not channel bonding

I have been trying for weeks to figure out why my linksys E4200 would not do 300 mbps I think I came up with the answer the firmware is not allowing it to channel bond on the 2.4ghz channel  in my old 160n when I change the channel width to 20 to 40mhz it shows 40mhz only in the status of the router in the E4200 it shows 20mhz only is this a firmware problem and how do you inform linksys of it there tech support is pretty much useless.

dkjohn - sorry I do not have an answer.  I started a similar thread yesterday titled E4200 2.4G 40mhz bandwidth issues, no responses yet.  I can get channel bonding using channel 6, or auto which gives me channel 6, no other channels will bond.  When bonded the channels are 6 & 2.  Unfortunately after 4 minutes of either laptop being booted up, The router drops from 40 mhz to 20 mhz and the channels report 6 & 0.  If I have no wireless PC's on the router will stay at 40 mhz and channels 6 & 2 "forever".  Not sure if this is firmware or a defective router.

  • Kindly Is the Linksys E4200 Dual Band Router compatible with DHCP and VPN ?

    Kindly
Is the Linksys E4200 Dual Band Router compatible with DHCP and VPN?
    Thanks,

Linksys/Cisco E4200 are compatible with DHCP. Second, these Wireless-N routers are only capable of enabling the VPN traffic to pass through the device.  You will need a VPN router and software to create the actual network to connect with your VPN client.

  • Linksys e4200 + wd my book studio edition II 6 TB

    Hello for everybody!
I have linksys e4200 and wd my book studio edition II 6 TB (2 hdd drive in raid0) with usb connection. When I connect my hdd drive the router can't find any connection drives.I think this limitation is firmware or kernel os which installed on linksys. How do I make it work or when can we expect support for usb hdd capacity of more than 2 Tb?

You may want to refer to this guide on how to set up your Hard Drive to work with the E4200.

  • Staying Connected to a Linksys E4200?

I am having trouble keeping my wife's MacBook Pro connected to our home network.  We have a Cisco Linksys E4200 router running off the AT&T (2Wire) modem.  Every other device in the home seems to stay connected fine, but the MacBook continuously looses it's connection.  We use a Buffalo Linkstation for time capsule backups so this is troublesome.  I recently even added Linksys RE1000s to make sure the wireless signal is not the issue, but still dropping.  I am considering adding an Airport Express to the network to see if that will resolve the problem.  Has anyone had a similar experience you resolved or have any recommendations?  Thank you in advance!

Did you upgrade your Linksys E4200 firmware? My wife was having issues with her Macbook disconnecting, and I upgraded the router to firmware 1.0.04, and will see if that fixed it. Seems the Linksys routers have issue with some network adapters, as I had another laptop that was a Toshiba that had issues to the same router, and had to update the driver on the laptop to get it working.

  • Linksys e4200 connection reliability issues

Hello there. A few months ago, I bought a new Linksys E4200 and it had no issues, until now. Recently, the reliability of this thing has dipped. The connection would just stop working and I'd have to unplug the box and reboot it. Other times, the Cisco logo would start blinking and the connection would stop, then it'd fix itself. But today, both things kept happening over and over to the point where I had to switch to the Netgear router that Comcast provided me with (which is working perfectly). As a mine craft server runner, I rely on a constant, reliable connection. What should I do? The e4200 is still faster than the Netgear thing so I'd like to get it fixed.

    Hi,
i have Linksys E4200 and I need repeater for it ...
Can anybody help me with this issue ?

    Thx for answer
I tested it and it works as Wireless Client - computer connected by ethernet wire is OK, everything works (DHCP etc)
but when i turn on " Allow wireless station to associate" in WAP4410N settings of "Wireless Client/Repeater" it doesn't work at all
I mean clients on wireless side and on wire side too ( DHCP doesnt work , there is no communication )

  • Time Capsule with Linksys E4200

    Hi
Just bought the 2TB Time Capsule for back-up and wifi router purposes. My current router is the Linksys E4200 and I've also added the Linksys Range Expander given the thick walls in the apartment. Will I be able to add the TC to this network and still get all the benefits of the latest TC or should I be using the TC as my wifi base station (rather than the E4200). I'm wary of having to invest further in range expanders etc if I used only the TC as my wifi router. Please advise the best set-up in this case. Thanks very much.

If you already have Linksys products providing your wireless network signal, then you would not want to also configure the Time Capsule for wireless.....unless.....you really do need another wireless network, or you want to make use of the 802.11ac capabilities of the product.
Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the E4200 to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule and set up the Time Capsule to "create a wireless network".
Once you have it set up, you can test out the wireless so see how it peforms but I would be surprised if it has the range of the Linksys 4200 and the Linksys extender(s).
IF.....you have brand new 802.11ac capable Macs, like the MacBook Air, iMac, or MacBook Pro, you will get a faster signal connecting to the Time Capsule wireless, but the Mac will need to be in close proximity to the Time Capsule for this to work correctly.
If you decide that you don't need the wireless on the Time Capsule, it will be a simple matter to turn off the wireless function. Then, you can use the Linksys wireless and the Time Capsule will perform as a network backup device.

  • Linksys E4200 HOT !!

    Hi all,
Had my Linksys e4200 for a week now just upgraded to the newest firmware.
I know all routers run hot but mine is running too hot to touch! I had it on top of my printer, so moved it to near the window and raised it up so it can get better ventilation all round.
As my wireless 2.4Ghz was constanly droping connections but connecting via Ethernet or 5Ghz works fine. So I turned the router upside down and everything has been working fine, Strange
    Anyone else had problems?

Yeah, wasn't happy with how hot mine was running, too.  Now I have it vertical, and it runs warm instead of hot on the two hotspots on the "bottom" (now the side *smile*).   I originally had created some distance from the surface it was on, but it was still horizontal.  That still left it warmer than I'd like.  Now I can live with it (vertical), although it looks funny since it wasn't designed to be set that way.  I have no idea why, every other router I've ever had was designed to be set vertically for cooler running.
Kind of looks like a flying saucer flying on it's edge *smile*.
