Linksys EA3500 Connection to iMac

Hello.  I am using an Apple iMac.  I recently installed  OSX 10.9.4 Maverick and have since been having a couple of problems, one being my Mac Mail program often requires a Restart of the iMac to enable messages to go out.  The other problem is where my internet 'hangs up' and again I require the Restart process to clear it up.
I noticed that since the recent install of Maverick I have been asked to sign into my Linksys wireless account. I had never had to do that prior to the Maverick install.
I decided to check my Router hookup and noticed that my Cat 5 cable from the iMac is not connected, so obviously I am operating the iMac in a wireless condition.
Can someone advise me if I can connect the Cat 5 cable direct to the Linksys EA3500 so I am not operating wireless and if so will there be anything else I will have to do to complete the connection?
I am attaching a diagram of my setup, you will see the Cat 5 cable is not connected..
Thanks for any assistance.

@dd28j45 Wired connection offer superior and reliable performance. Wired connection is faster than wireless since there is no interference. Wireless connection though is more convenient when it comes to space and you can move the appliance anywhere in your home. Wireless speeds degrade as more people connect to your router.

  • Linksys EA3500 will it work with iMac or Pro computer?

I currently have a iPod touch 4th generation and there wasn't any problem connecting to my Linksys EA3500 router. My PC is dying so I'm considering buying a Mac Pro 13.3 inch laptop or iMAC? I was wondering if this router will connect easily to the laptop as well? I beleive there is a setup disc for the router.

Cisco always made bad routers, backdoor city, privacy concerns and always being hackable from the outside.

IMMO dump the Linksys and buy a NetGear router, at least they don't record your Internet traffic.

Don't use the CD software its not necessary.
Infact put it in the trash.
Your router will have an IP address in the range 192.168.1.1
Connect your router to your Mac via Ethernet cable (They usually supply one with the router and don't worry which end goes where the Mac LAN socket is bi-directional)
Also connect your router to your telephone line.
Now open your Web browser Safari . Type in the IP address above and a Javascript control panel will launch
Enter the default password and username (They are on a label on the router )
Your now have the ability to set up your router.
Your will need the password and user name supplied to you by your ISP at a minimum.
Enter these and most modern routers automatically configure the basic networking setting.
You now need to go to the security setting and set this as WPA2 Personal (NOT Enterprise) or WPA2 with AES and TKIP which ever it refers to and create a pass-phase. WRITE it down
    You should be online.
Now remove the cable and connect to the Wifi and enter that passphase.

  • Linksys ea3500 dropping wireless connection

    Hello,
I have a very frustrating problem.  I am using a brand new Linksys EA3500.  We have 2 laptops connecting to it.  One is an older XP machine which never has any problem.  The other, a Vista machine, periodically drops the connection to the internet when connecting wirelessly.  It never loses the connection to the Linksys EA3500 router, it just says "Access: local" and there is no internet.  If I plug the Vista machine in wired to the router it works fine.  I've tried my old router and I don't get this problem, which leads me to believe that my wireless adapter is functioning properly on the Vista machine.
When the vista machine drops the internet, I can still get into the router configuration at 192.168.1.1, but when I click on the tab which says wireless it sometimes says:  "Router not found.  You are not connected to your router."  It says this despite the fact that I am connected to the router???
I've tried reinstalling Windows, that didn't make any difference.  I am convinced that it is a problem with the router, but I can't find any settings to adjust which remedy the situation.  Of coarse, I've tried reseting my modem and Router many times...doesn't resolve the issue.  I've also gone into DOS and done an ipconfig release_all and renew_all.
I work in IT and I understand the basics of TCP/IP and DHCP.  When I connect wired with the vista laptop my ip is 192.168.1.112, when wireless it is 192.168.1.142.  Please advise.
    Thank you

Are you using the classic firmware or the linksys smartwifi? If the other laptop is working fine, I would say that the router is working fine. But to make sure that everything all things are covered, try to change the wireless settings of the router as well as update the adapter on the laptop that’s experiencing the problem. For the wireless settings of the router, you may try: channel width: 20MHz only; channel: 1, 3, 6, or 9; security: wpa2 personal.

  • Linksys EA3500 blocking 2 websites.

Not sure what's going on, but all the sudden my Linksys EA3500 decided to start blocking www.wowhead.com and www.thottbot.com. When I go into security and disable IPv4 and IPv6 firewall protection, it let's me go to those sites. There's no settings anywhere that I can see where I can add an exception. Can someone please shed some light on this problem? Thanks,
       Richard

That’s a weird issue if nothing has been changed on the router’s set-up. Since the SPI Firewall Protection on the router is set to distinguish legitimate ports or packets from different sources, only those packets matching a known active connection will be allowed by the firewall and others will be rejected. It is possible that the 2 websites have undergone an update and is running on a different service port which might be recognized by the router as malicious ports.
To maintain security on your network, you can use port triggering under the security tab to specifically open the service ports used by the 2 websites instead of completely disabling the router’s SPI firewall. If you can’t get the service ports from the website administrators, you can also use the logs on your router to track the ports used. Just enable DMZ on your router’s security tool and enable logs (found under the troubleshooting tools on your Linksys Smart Wifi screen) to check the port details.

  • How to connect my Imac to my HDTV

I have a 2007 aluminum Imac and a 50 inch 1080p HDTV. is there anyway I could connect my Imac to the tv and control it via wireless mouse and keyboard... The rear connections on the tv are 3 hdmi, 2 component, s-video and AV.. Please let me know what is easiest, fastest, most reliable and produces the best picture.. Thanks so much!
Also I might get the new 13 inch macbook pro, what would I need in order to connect that?

I am not familiar with this new mini-DVI to HDMI cable. Sounds interesting. There is a Mac user reporting an issue in trying to use one of these in the Intel-based iMac display forum. He is using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and an HDMI to HDMI cable plugged into a HDMI port on his plasma TV and nothing is happening. But he is also reporting the same issue with mini-DVI to VGA adapter and an VGA to VGA cable plugged into the VGA port on his plasma TV. So the problem may not involve this mini-DVI to HDMI adapter.
I use Apple's mini-DVI to DVI adapter connected to a Belkin DVI to HDMI cable plugged into the HDMI port on my LG LCD HDTV with great success with my new Early 2009 Mac mini. The Apple mini-DVI to DVI adapter came with my Mac mini and I bought the Belkin DVI to HDMI cable at the Apple Store when I bought the Mac mini. Both are also available from the Apple Store online for US$19 each.
The MacBook Pro has a mini-DisplayPort. Apple also has a mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter for US$29. So that could also connect with the Belkin DVI to HDMI cable.
I did Google for a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and there are a few 3rd party venders of this adapter as well.

How do I connect my Imac to my TV ? Is there an easy way, Any body can help? I'm new to the Mac world.
    Thank you in advance

What do you want to achieve? If the goal is to use the TV as an external monitor then get a mini display port to HDMI, DVI or VGA depending on the connections the TV has. You can find each adapter at the Apple Store either online or at a store close to you.

  • How do i connect my iMac to my tv to see movies with wire

how do i connect my iMac to my tv to see movies with wire

    Hey rodskc10,
Thanks for the question! Based on the iMac model and TV you have, you’ll need to pick up a compatible cable. There are a few options that can be found on the Apple Online Store:
Mac Cables - Computer Audio & Video Adapters, Network Cables & More - Apple Store (U.S.)
    http://store.apple.com/us/mac/mac-accessories/cables#!
For example, if you have the latest iMac and an HDTV, a mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable should do the job (you’ll connect this to the Thunderbolt port, which is backwards compatible with mini DisplayPort).
For additional information, see this article:

  • How can I connect my iMac to a TV for playback of videos? My TV does not have HDMI.

How can I connect my iMac to a TV for playback of videos? My TV does not have HDMI.

You need to find out what video out you have on your iMac, and what kind of video inputs there are on your TV.
It will help to know exactly what model iMac and exactly what make/model TV you have.
Depending on the exact model iMac you have, it may have miniVGA, miniDVI, miniDisplayPort or Thunderbolt output.  Your TV may have composite, S-video, component, DVI, VGA or HDMI inputs.  Once you confirm what kind of ports your iMac and TV have, then we can probably suggest the correct cable or adapter so you can connect them to each other.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If this program doesn't work, open  > About this Mac and tell us the generation of your Mac. AirPlay Mirroring needs a Mid 2011 or newer iMac, so if your iMac is supported, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion

  • Can anyone please help me connect my iMac to my TV?

How can i connect my iMac OS X to my sony bavia TV?
Its an iMac OS X version 10.5.8 The TV has an hdmi port but the iMac doesn't have an hdmi port. But the TV & the iMac both have a USB port.

If your iMac has a MiniDisplay port then you need a MiniDisplay port to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable.

how can i connect my imac to an hdmi plug from the tv. do i use a thunderbolt cable and what adaptor can i use?

If your TV has HDMI inputs, use a mini-Displayport to HMDI adapter and a HDMI cable.
The mini-Displayport adapters are compatible with your Thunderbolt port.
Here is the Kanex version of the mini-DP to HDMI adpater. Moshi makes one also.
