Linksys EA4500 Leopard Cisco Cloud compatibility

I am looking for a new router to do video streaming and online conferencing on a Mac. I am looking at the Linksys EA4500 and the Apple AirPort Extreme. I have an HP with a Windows 7 OS connected to cable and a Mac. I have an HP Officejet Pro L7580 printer which is capable of wireless. I also have blueray to connect to this device, netflex, and an android. The OS on the Mac is the Leopard. My Mac OS is the 10.8.1. My HP OS is Windows 7 64 bit.
My concerns:
EA4500:
Requires connection to the Cisco Connect Cloud system - Is that system compatible with the Mac Leopard system and downloable to the Mac. So many programs say they are compatible. But when you download them the computer rejects them. I have read a couple of blogs with those issues. Does anyone have any experience with this router and a Mac?
What are the known issues with the Cisco Cloud system? Is this a third party software?
Apple AirPort:
My concern with this router is that it is compatible not only with the Mac but with the HP - Windows 7 64 bit OS that I have, along with my HP Officejet Pro L7580 printer. I read some blogs people had issues with their printers not working consistently or lag in signal strength. These are issues I have with my present router and it's 5 years old.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
If you have OS X 10.8.1, then you have the newest version of OS X, and it is called Mountain Lion. OS X Leopard is an old version of OS X. It was 10.5.x.
A lot of 3rd party developers don't really care if their kit works with Apple products, if it works with  Windows that's as far as they go with testing. Apple makes sure that their kit works with their products and with the kit from others.
Unless you have stuff strewn to the far extremes of a really big, multi-storey house (hence the name AirPort Extreme!), the AirPort Express may meet your needs. But the proof is in the pudding, buy it, test it, if it doesn't work, take it back.

i guess you can re-register to a new Smart WiFi account. not sure if there's an option to use an existing one.

  • EA4500 USB Printer without Cisco Cloud Connect

    Hi,
I recently purchased a EA4500 for my home network. After hours of searching, I couldn't find any evidence to how I can install a USB printer without the obvious Cisco Cloud Connect. I don't need any software or account to access my router over the net nor any of the features CCC provides (at least as of yet). I'm quite comfortable with using the web interface and easily managed to adjust the router for everything I need except the printer part. I certainly have things to print so I have to connect my printer to the router as it is clearly mentioned on its box that I can access my printer through it. As a last resort I tried to install the software on the CD that came with it to get a link for some "Cisco VUSB" software which I think is the solution but it keeps saying my modem is not connected to the net. It clearly isn't because I don't have an internet connection at home. What I have is a 3G connection which I use for communicating and downloads I need. So why do I need an internet connection on the router for anything and how do I install my printer? Thnx.
    Regards...

For the router to work & allow you to use the Cisco VUSB then you need to have an internet connection for it & not just 3G connection! The router will only work if their is modem in which it will serve as the source of your internet connection. Once you have the modem attached to the router then you can run the CD & that would allow you to install the CCC software & use the Cisco VUSB for your printer.

  • Error 2123 When Saving Media Prioritization Settings in Cisco Cloud Connect

There are several features that don't work and are returning errors.  For starters, when trying to save settings for media/device prioritization I am receiving a 2123 error message.  Unable to save settings.  EA4500/N900 Router, Cisco Cloud Connect.

For the record, I was unable to update the firmware automatically with the application.  I had to update the firmware manually and that worked fine.  I doubt my issues are related to a bad installation.  I believe it is a code issue.  Please help resolve media/device prioritization issue.  Thanks.
As a workaround, try to reset the media prioritization settings on the router then check again, http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=9bf7b6e25b984839aecbff2fcbd8c20e_How_to_reset_the_.... If it's still the same reset the router manually by pressing  the reset button for a like 30 sec so to ensure the new version of the firmware will be installed properly.

  • Why does everybody hate Cisco Cloud Connect so much ??

Just upgraded from e4200v1 to the ea4500. I may be a minority but I actually find the new cloud firmware a refreshing change and I installed it by choice. The original firmware was just feeling a litte dated after years of owning linksys routers.  I'll agree it is a little slow but I am sure that will be addressed. As for those saying it has been streamlined,  I was able to find almost all important settings that often actually need configuring in a few minutes. As for it being full of bugs, If you want to see buggy firmware buy an asus router, I just returned one it was so bad.
While I can't figure out why one would really need to remotely access their router the ability to fire up the guest network or monitor devices on my router from my phone is really cool. I'm anxious to see what Cisco/Linksys have in mind for upcoming releases, it opens the door for so many possibilities.

I am looking at the box of my EA4500 and there is nothing on it about CCC.  That was added after the fact.  In fact most EA4500s out there now were pre-CCC.  You clearly don't have an EA4500 in your hands, there's nothing on the box talking about CCC.  Cisco Connect software is not the same thing as Cisco Cloud Connect, right?  Because that's what's mentioned on the box.
Try finding a 4200v2 for sale then try finding a 4500, price is nearly the same( only $10 difference) , the devices have very similar specs if not identical.  So, you would save a whole $10 for last years model?  Not the best plan for me.
As far as complaining about a cloud implementation for a local device?  Really?  You think this is a good idea?  You think that this works "well"?  I've asked before and I'll ask you since you want to go after me for voicing my opinion on a thread that's asking people what's wrong with the software...  Would you put your home thermostat control "in the cloud" so that you could control it remotely and remove any local control option?  That would be silly wouldn't it?  If your access to the control ever gets interrupted for any reason, you can no longer control your device.  This is what happens here.
As for software support...  Cisco already isn't supporting their software.  You cannot use any of their installation or update software if you are using Mac OS X Mountain Lion.  At this time the OS has been available for a month and a half and Cisco doesn't appear to be doing anything to provide support for an OS that is guaranteed support according to the system requirements on the box.

  • Linksys EA4500 findet DSL Modem nicht

    Hallo Zusammen,

  • Updating e4200v2 to CIsco Cloud Connect

I know that Cisco Cloud Connect was released fairly recently. I also know that the e4200v2 was supposed to be a supported router from last generation for Cisco Cloud Connect. However, when I go to the upgrade firmware option on my router settings, it says that I have the most up to date firmware.
How do I get CIsco Cloud Connect setup on my e4200v2? Would I simply follow the manual install instructions for the ea4500 with the firmware for the ea4500?
I'm hoping that the updated firmware will fix an issue I'm having with getting a Seagate Expansion hard drive detected for the media server portion since I know a closely related hard drive was in the list of functioning external hard drives for the Cisco Connect Cloud firmware.
Thanks in advance. I really appreciate any help I can get.

I have tried it, it works well
But I dont like the ccc, so i downgrade my E4200v2 back to 2.0.37
Me too. I'm going to wait for the CCC bugs to get ironed out and for it to become fully functional. It was not possible to do DHCP address reservation from CCC. The iPhone app presents a dumbed down version of the router interface and is extremely limited. The iPad version is a 2x magnifed version of the iPhone interface.

  • Multiple values in where clause(IN) of select query in Cisco Cloud Portal using single field

I can actually pass multiple values in the IN statement of select query using multiple dictionary fields in the data retrieval rule of the AFC in Cisco cloud portal like
    #dictionary.field1# = 1 and
    #dictionary.field2#=2
    select col1,col2 from table1 where col3 in (#dictionary.field1#,dictionary.field2#).
but I want to pass mutiple values in a single field as
    #dictionary.field1#=1,2
select col1,col2 from table1 where col3 in (#dictionary.field1#) and the query gives no data because it is taking as '1,2' instead of '1','2'.
Please give the solution for passing multiple values in a single variable to use in IN operator of WHERE clause

Ok, I now understand what you are trying to do. Unfortunately, you cannot inject parts of a SQL statement into a DDR through a dictionary field, which always represents a specific value (the comma in your case is attempting injection of a SQL construct to refer to multiple values). One possible solution is to arbitrarily consolidate your list of values using a delimiter that you know will not be in the values themselves such as a colon (:). Let's use 3 values as it serves as a better example.
Set your dictionary field to a single reference to all 3 values of interest, say 'a', 'b', 'c' as:
:a:b:c:  (you can use javascript to create this consolidated dictionary field)
Now your query would look something like the following:
    select col1,col2 from table1 where #dictionary.field1t# like '%:'+col3+':%'
This should achieve the desired result.

Does anyone could explain me about SSL/TLS?
    Here is the situation:
E72 allows in securîty settings to select SSL/TLS. I selected it for both accessing and sending mails and I can logon to my POP and send with SMTP.  So apparently no problem.
But I asked my internet provider if they support SSL/TLS and they told me no they does not support it....so my question is does really SSL/TLS works in my situation and my provider has no clue on security settings or SSL/TLS does not work but it has no incidence on using my mails as I said I can receive mails and send mails even if those security settings are selected...?
Thanks if anyone could explain me this.
Some e-mail providers like Gmail use SSL/TLS.

Are you trying to assign a static ipv6 dns on the router? I think it is not possible yet but maybe if they will do an update or if it will be part of the update (if ever) that they will do on the classic firmware. For the EA routers, IPV6 packets are embedded in the IPV4 and the router will convert it using the 6rd tunnel.

Hey there. No, it is not because of Cisco Connect Cloud. Totally different thing. Cisco Connect Cloud is only made available for the latest routers for Cisco. I saw your other post. Cisco Connect Cloud is not available for your BEFW11S4 V4 router. Just try to have your router's wireless capability reconfigured or modify so that you can have your wireless adapter working with it not unless you have to do an update on your wireless adapter to make it work again.

  • Cisco Cloud Connect (Linksys Smart Wi-Fi) just keeps "waiting"...

I have an EA6500 router which I successfully set up a home network and started using the Cisco Clod Connect app.  I was able to use the app from my smartphone and home PC about a week ago.  But now when I attempt to access it - I just get a "waiting" sign.  My account ID and password is correct and I even try to access  it with the router password I get the same response.
    Can anyone offer a solution?
    Thanks so much.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am having the exact same problem with mine.  It's keeping me from being able to set up my wireless.  I talked to support and they said that the cloud has been down for maintenance.  We should still be able to make configuration changes whether it can connect to the cloud or not.  I don't understand the option to access the router locally if it is still trying to access the cloud in some way.  It should be smart enough to let us make changes locally and then update the cloud when it's back up.  Not very happy now about upgrading the firmware.
