  • Linksys EA4500 Leopard Cisco Cloud compatibility

I am looking for a new router to do video streaming and online conferencing on a Mac. I am looking at the Linksys EA4500 and the Apple AirPort Extreme. I have an HP with a Windows 7 OS connected to cable and a Mac. I have an HP Officejet Pro L7580 printer which is capable of wireless. I also have blueray to connect to this device, netflex, and an android. The OS on the Mac is the Leopard. My Mac OS is the 10.8.1. My HP OS is Windows 7 64 bit.
    My concerns:
    EA4500:
Requires connection to the Cisco Connect Cloud system - Is that system compatible with the Mac Leopard system and downloable to the Mac. So many programs say they are compatible. But when you download them the computer rejects them. I have read a couple of blogs with those issues. Does anyone have any experience with this router and a Mac?
What are the known issues with the Cisco Cloud system? Is this a third party software?
    Apple AirPort:
My concern with this router is that it is compatible not only with the Mac but with the HP - Windows 7 64 bit OS that I have, along with my HP Officejet Pro L7580 printer. I read some blogs people had issues with their printers not working consistently or lag in signal strength. These are issues I have with my present router and it's 5 years old.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
If you have OS X 10.8.1, then you have the newest version of OS X, and it is called Mountain Lion. OS X Leopard is an old version of OS X. It was 10.5.x.
A lot of 3rd party developers don't really care if their kit works with Apple products, if it works with  Windows that's as far as they go with testing. Apple makes sure that their kit works with their products and with the kit from others.
Unless you have stuff strewn to the far extremes of a really big, multi-storey house (hence the name AirPort Extreme!), the AirPort Express may meet your needs. But the proof is in the pudding, buy it, test it, if it doesn't work, take it back.
    Son mis 3 pesos!

  • Linksys EA4500 findet DSL Modem nicht

    Hallo Zusammen,

  • Linksys ea4500 original firmware

after upgrading the original firmware on linksys ea4500 its almost impossible to get the original back because linksys does not provide the link to the download-  anyway i stumbled on this link when searchin the web to solve my problems so  I just wanted to make it easier for al you others
just copy paste to your browser
    http://download.linksys.com/updates/to0037258865.pdx/FW_E4200_2.0.36.126507.SSA
    /enjoy

Are you trying to assign a static ipv6 dns on the router? I think it is not possible yet but maybe if they will do an update or if it will be part of the update (if ever) that they will do on the classic firmware. For the EA routers, IPV6 packets are embedded in the IPV4 and the router will convert it using the 6rd tunnel.

  • Which Router to choose--Linksys ea4500 or Airport Extreme

I originally bought an ea4500 Linksys router.  I had some issues that I thought were due to the router.  I then purchased an Apple Airport Extreme.  I found that the same issues exist and that the problem is probably my computer setup.  I now have to return one of the routers.
They both seem to work very well.  The setup possibly was easier with the Airport Extreme, but that may be because everything was pretty much set up when I bought it after setting up the network with the Linksys.  The Airport Extreme probably would be the choice if I only had Apple computers, but I have 3 Windows PC's (2 Vista PCs and 1 XP) and 2 Mac PCs (Macbook Pro with Lion and Mac G4 with Tiger? --10.4.11).  I also have 2 iphones and 2 Kindle Fires.
I have tested putting a hard drive (formatted NTFS) with on the ea4500 and it reads fine.  I have not tried to write to it with either the Macs or the PCs.  I have not tried the hard drive with the Airport.  The Airport is about $30 more than the Linksys.  I can't see any real difference in the operation of the 2 routers.
I would like to have any comments/thoughts about which one I should choose (I know that I am probably in a biased community).

I read the features for both routers and like what you mentioned both actually seems to offer the same thing. Both supports simultaneous dual band for the wireless connection and also offers guest networks and you can also connect harddrives to it. It is a tough choice. I would go for the EA4500, trying not to be biased here. One of the reason is that I have received good tech support for the linksys(cisco) products that I have been using and that is one of the main things that I truly appreciate about in a company.

  • Linksys EA4500 Strict NAT with Xbox One

    Hey all,
I just got a Xbox One and I use my wireless router (EA4500) for it. I've used it before on my Xbox 360 and I have had an open NAT but now all I have is strict.
I've done some searching on the web such as port fowarding and what not but no such luck. I was wondering if anyone can help me with my current problem?
    Thanks in advance!

Do you know if your router is getting a public IP Address from your ISP? If you are then just enabling UPNP should be enough. Keep in mind that if you have two xbox's then the first one to grab the ports will have open nat.
If you get a private IP Address from your ISP then strict nat is all you will get.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • Linksys ea4500 with parental control , policy , enhancement

i have EA4500 and parental control features are very limited which are very disappointing
    Following features are required
in websites block  there should be "websites allowed only" so i can allow 7-8 websites only to my kids to view
Keywords filtering should be available or if i may able to apply a policy for family filter like stuff
It should have domain blocking as i have to block www.youtube.com but they can open m.youtube.com and i have limitation of 8 sites only???????
The Netproofer app is bugy and doesnt help perfectly and it should either be decleared as beta and should not associated with linksys  otherwise should be inproved for required level of purpose
Is there any solution or should I go to other brands ????

The EA4500 and the rest of the Linksys Smart Wifi routers have a streamlined Parental Controls feature. It allows time- based restriction and website blocking per device. This feature solely restricts access and does not have the option to permit certain devices to have access to the internet (during specific times) or selected websites.
If Netproofer does quite work as it should, you can install and reinstall the app. If you're still having issues, contact the app developer.

  • Cannot see NAS on my local network by its name (Linksys EA4500)

    Hello,
I have just bought a new EA4500 and set it up at home. Most things worked like a charm except one. I can no longer see my Synology NAS on my home network byt its name.
I have the router connected to internet (local ISP, PPPoE). I have the NAS connected by wire, two Windows 8 PCs connected wirelessly. There is also a TV (wired connection), a printer, some Windows Phones and Kindles. One of the PC cannot see the NAS (the other can). It can connect to it by its IP (in browser, by ping), it can see its media server (I can play music from the NAS in my Media Player), the TV sees the NAS as DLNA media server... But the PC cannot see the NAS by its name.
If I list connected devices on the router settings, I can see the NAS and its name. But the PC cannot. What is wrong?
Both PCs have file sharing turned on. I have even SSH'd to the NAS ind successfully pinged the PC by its name. For full disclosure, the PC has VMWare installed with Windows 7 virtual machine.
I made no settings to the router other than going through the Cisco Connect wizard and disabling guest wifi.
Thank you very much for any suggestions.
    Solved!

Thank you. Restarting everything didn't help. It happed to be solved by itself later on. I was fiddling with wifi settings and set (and unset) FIPS. Then it worked. No idea if it was a coincidence.

  • Linksys EA4500 Firmware

Hi! I downloaded a new firmware EA Series Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Firmware Ver.2.1.39.144146 (10/31/2012) and I can't find the option that hides my SSID. How to select the channel? Help, please!

Yes that is normal. I will suggest to select the channel with the less interference and does not overlap with other wireless devices available in the area.

  • Linksys EA4500 - Widgets are blank

    Hello,
When I login to the router via the local access ... the homepage widgets are blank. I have had several of these Smart Wifi routers in the past and never noticed this. It only seems to happen in Chrome and FF. In IE, it works fine.
If I login to the Smart Wi-Fi account via Chrome, the widgets work correctly.
    Any ideas on this?

  • EA4500 -- Connection between 2 PC's fails

This issue has gone on for quite a while now....  As an IT person this is baffling to me:
Very simple home network --  192.168.6.X/24  addresses handed out by a Linksys EA4500.  About 16 wireless and 1 wired device total on network.
    Two laptops - One with Windows 7 (IP= 192.168.6.32) , other with Windows 8.1( IP= 192.168.6.12) both wi-fi
Every day the win 7 laptop is left on all day, the win 8.1 laptop is sleeping.  They are in different rooms.  When I start up the win 8.1 laptop and try to access anything on the win 7 laptop (rdp, file shares, etc..) it can't connect.
A ping from .12 to .32 returns Destination Host Unreachable -- So it seems like a failed ARP request.
A ping from .32 to .12 returns a Time Out -- Mac address is found in the ARP table.
During this time both machines can connect to any other device on the network (NAS, wifi printer, etc..) and they can both get out to the internet.  All other devices can connect to them.  The built in ping from the EA4500 troubleshooting will succeed to both devices with no packet loss..
Once I give in and restart either the router or the win 7 laptop they can connect just fine.  I just can't figure out why it is just these two devices that stop communicating.
So I'm truly at a loss here -- I will be asking the same question on Microsoft forums, but 10 bucks says they come back to me and say it's a network issue...
    Thanks!!

Have you tried checking on the firewall? Disable the computer's firewall temporarily and see if it works. You may also want to check on some antivirus that may contain firewall and temporarily disable the firewall.

  • EA4500 - not as easy to set up

Unfortunately the Linksys EA4500 is not as easy to "Set Up & Manage with Ease" as they claim. After trying to connect my Dell color laser network printer, which was working just fine with the replaced Dlink DIR-655 router, it turns out that the supplied Easy Connect Software does not allow non-USB or non-wireless printers to connect to the network. One must manually configure the IP address, according to the Cisco technical support manager. It is not a simple three step set up as advertised.
The Linksys technical support manager agrees that it is a good thing to warn people not to buy this router if one is expecting easy connection to their network. "It's out of my hands, how to support you to configure the Dell network printer to work with the Linksys EA4500 router." Linksys referred me to a third party, for a fee, to explain how to manually configure the IP address to connect a network printer to their router.
Numerous other features are not fully developed. Wait for this product to develop into a more mature product. This router is not ready for primetime.

The Cisco Connect software comes with the Linksys Wireless-N (E/EA Series) routers that let you manage your network easier. So first of all uninstall the older Cisco connect Software from the computer..  Then make the following connectivity:
The router’s power adapter needs to be plugged to your router and into an available power outlet.
If using a wired connection, the first Ethernet cable needs to be plugged to the computer’s LAN port into any of the router’s blue numbered Ethernet ports.
The second Ethernet cable should be plugged to the modem’s Internet port and the other end into the router’s yellow Internet port.
Ensure that you have no firewall enabled that may prevent the router from being detected.
After the connection install the Cisco Connect Software again… Here is the link for the same: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=21463&userrole=Links...
Instructions to connect Network Printer with a Router
1 Set the router near the computer that is closest to your cable or broadband modem. Plug the router's electrical plug into a wall outlet but do not connect any other cables yet.
2 Put the installation CD that came with the router into the computer's disc drive. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the router's software on the computer. Install the printer's software on the computer if you have not already done so.
3 Connect an Ethernet cable from your modem to the port on the router marked as, "WAN" or "Wide Area Network." Connect an Ethernet cable from the computer to any of the numbered ports on the router. Open the Start menu on the computer and then click "Control Panel."
4 Scroll through the Control Panel options and then double-click the "Network and Sharing Center" icon. Click on the "Connect to a Network" link at the left side of the window. Find the name of your router in the list of available networks and click on it. Click on "Connect."
5 Connect an Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on the printer to any of the numbered ports on the router. Return to the "Network and Sharing Center" window and click on the button labeled as "Turn on Printer Sharing."
6 Click on the "Apply" button to save the setting. Click on the "View Computers and Devices" link at the left side of the window. Click on the "Add a Printer" button when the new window appears.
7 Click on the "Add a Network Printer" button and wait for the computer to scan for attached printers. Click on the name of the printer and then click on "Connect."
8 Connect Ethernet cables from the other computers on your network to the numbered ports on the router. Repeat the process of connecting to the network, turning on printer sharing, and then adding the printer on those computers.

  • PS3 & Xbox NAT EA4500

Hello, I'd like to get some assistance with an NAT issue my family is having. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section.
We recently upgraded to the linksys ea4500 router. My brother plays call of duty on the PS3 and I play call of duty on the Xbox. The issue is we cannot figure out how to have open NAT on both consoles at the same time. I've read multiple support guides, but they don't seem to help. I'm pretty sure it's possible since i've gotten both to be open after reseting the router. The problem is it doesn't stay open on both for very long. We can get one to be open, while the other is stuck on moderate.
We've tried port range forwarding and port range triggering. By default, the PS3 is open. To get the Xbox to open, i disable 'filter anonymous requests' in the security settings, and disable UPnP. (With UPnP enabled, the is ps3 is open & xbox is moderate, with it off, xbox is open and ps3 is moderate) Is there a way around this? A simple explaintion would be best, since I'm not familiar with proper internet terms. Both consoles are wired and have static IPs This is the guide I followed for xbox - http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&docid=417986e6f9184b728cfa3...
