Linksys router port forwarding suddenly closed

i have a 54G wireless home router ..... successfully port fowarded an application from a CPU (server).... but after no connection made from the user to the server .....  it suddenly close the application ..... so what i did is to reboot the router in order to refresh the connection ......
Is there any other ways to fix this sudden close of the ports ?  so that i would do anymore reboots on my router
I really appreciate any help .....

MTU is the Maximum Transmission Unit. It specifics the largest packet size permitted for Internet transmission. Select Manual if you want to manually enter the largest packet size that will be transmitted. The recommended size, entered in the Size field, is 1500. You should leave this value in the 576 to 1500 range. To have the Router select the best MTU for your Internet connection, keep the default setting, Auto. A larger MTU brings greater efficiency because each packet carries more user data while protocol overheads, such as headers or underlying per-packet delays, remain fixed; the resulting higher efficiency means a slight improvement in bulk protocol throughput. A larger MTU also means processing of fewer packets for the same amount of data But sometimes we have to manually input the size if the router is unable to determine the actual size.
Now for your second part of the question: Where do you check the external IP address of the router? You have to go to the status page of teh router to check the IP address.  If you have a dynamic IP address from your ISP, then it will change frequently and you wont be able to ping the previous address.
Also, what is the firmware version on the router?

  • RV215W router port forwarding not working

RV215W router port forwarding not working.
Port forwarding works for a short period of time, then stops working.  Reboot router, works again for short period of time, then stops again.
I have updated firmware to latest.  I had seen other similar bugs posted for 220 and I think 180, not sure if this router has similar bugs and waiting for fix release to firmware.
I had recently purchased two, one deployed, will hold off on other now because of issues, and may have to move to different unit if a resolution not found this week.

It's not just single port forwarding that has bugs, the entire router has bugs and simply does not work as advertised. I have found the following bugs/aspects of this router that just does not work correctly: 1. If you have to open ports, and who doesn’t, this router will eventually stop accepting packets from WAN>LAN. You will still have Internet access but no open ports. A reboot will fix this problem. Oh, by the way, this router has no scheduled reboot option! <--That would be a workaround but a welcome one for this router. 2. Firewall Access rules do not work!! Yep, a Cisco router and basic functionality simply does not work. I called Cisco and even though the tech saw the router not working denied it was a bug! Said we have to do port mirroring, setup a workstation with WireShark and capture packets so we can debug the issues.  That would take several hours. I told him I would have appreciated if Cisco would have debugged the issues with their router BEFORE they shipped the units. Stay away from Cisco Small Business Routers. I wish I had. And if there are any Cisco die-hards out there willing to prove me wrong, just reply to this and please, prove me wrong that the RV series and specifically the RV215W is not JUNK.

  • Linksys X3500 - Port Forwarding (limited)

    Hi everybody!
We have purchased 3 pieces of Linksys X3500.
One for us and a couple for an installer (our customer) who wants to make a wireless home network (for a couple of end users).
I have to tell you that we are a distributor for security systems (Tvcc and so on) in our area (north of Milan) and we have a lot of NVR and DVR on our network we need to put on-line as demos.
Today i start to configure the Modem/Router and i find no prob since i tried to add "some" port forwarding...
We have about 60 single ports to configure and the page of device is limited to not more than 15 (customized) slots!!
I was hoping the device was able to allow me to add more slots but it seams to be not possible!
    How can i do?
(ps: i don't want to add an external firewall to do it!)

I wasn't talking about the algorithm of wireless but the one used for manage the priority of the traffic...(when devices are already connected)
and if there's an external device (hardware) that can do a better job (like a "Lan Controller" but cheapest).

  • WRT54GS Wireless Router, Port Forwarding, LED Display

Hello everyone.  I'm using a Linksys router on a network like this:
I have comcast cable internet using the motorola cable modem that is supplied by them.  This is connected to my Linksys WRT54GS which is then connected to my desktop PC and laptop as well as a Troy500 print server.
The Troy500 print server is connected to an LED display with a serial cable.  The desktop PC has a logitech webcam on it.
I was able to setup the webcam to be viewed online, I had to use the web configurator in the router to forward ports 8000 and 8080 to the desktop PC which has a local IP address of 192.168.1.2.  This works fine.
My Laptop has an address of 192.168.1.3 and I am able to LOCALLY communicate to the Troy and display items on the LED using the laptop AND my desktop.  BUT when I forward ANY outside port to the Troy to try and get this to work remotely through the router I get a communication error.
Someone suggested that Comcast may be filtering various ports so I tried over 10 different port numbers and still get the same error.
I then tried to get help from a tech guy I know from florida and he was unable to get to the router through the remote management feature, we used port 9000, 7000, and port 9999, nothing worked to get him in.  ALSO he was unable to ping my outside IP.
BUT I am able to get online, and I'm able to see all the devices on the router, AND he's able to see the webcam which is using ports 8000 and 8080 to communicate outside.
    Any suggestions?
Oh, ALSO, nothing on this network is wireless except for the laptop, and this functions just the same when I plug CAT5 into it, it makes no difference.

first off , make sure that the router has the latest firmware...on the router ui , under the "security" tab , disable "block anonymous internet request" ... check whether these changes make any difference....

  • Help for my new E2500 router port forwarding

My home web hosting used to work. But because of changing ISP from Verizon to TWC, TWC gave me a modem-router and I bought my own Linksys E2500 router. Both Verizon and TWC services I subscribed are Dynamic IP. I use a third party to redirect the web traffic to my home.
TWC gave me a simple modem-router in a box. Input is coax and outputs are 4 ethernet ports. I use one of the 4 ethernet outputs of the TWC box to connect to the internet ethernet input port of the E2500. All my wire and wireless devices are now feeding off the E2500. All wireless and wired devices work and can browse internet through the E2500.
I have assigned one computer as the web server and set the internal IP addess of this computer as 192.168.1.128. This is the same for the setup with Verizon before.
I loaded the CD came with the E2500 router and can see the LAN 192.168.1.128.
My problem starts from here, I do not know how to set the port in E2500 to make the web traffic to 192.168.1.128
    1. Using the E2500 CD, I click to "APPLICATION AND GAMING", then "SINGLE PORT FORWARDING". under the APPLICATION NAME, I select one of the box to HTTP and type in 128 under "TO IP ADDRESS". I then click ENABLED, then "save settings" . The 192.168.1 is fixed in this window, I can only type 128.
This does not work. I can browse internet but cannot access my website from any machines using domain name.
    Then I tried:
    2. with item 1 above, I continued to do SETUP>>BASIC SETUP>>DHCP RESEVERSATION. I can see the compute/sever name and the 192.168.1.128. I then click the "select" and save the client.
I restarted the computer/server, I unplug and plug the E2500 power. I check the server internal IP address and it is still the same. But I just cannot browse to my website. I can browse other places.
Any idea of what is wrong on my doing? Please help.
    Solved!

Your modem is a router. Any incoming internet requests end at the modem/router. You have to configure port forwarding on the modem/router first before the E2500 will see anything incoming from the internet.
    Alternatives:
    1. Set the modem/router into "bridge" mode which turns it into a simple modem. Then you can connect directly to the internet with your E2500.
    2. Set up the E2500 as simple access point and keep the modem/router as your main and only router. Then all forwarding is done on the modem/router.

  • Linksys WRT610N Port Forwarding

I am finding it impossible to set up port forwarding. No matter what I do I remain completely stealthed when I do a port probe via www.grc.com. The only way I seem to be able to open a port is if I enable remote management. When I do that, whatever port I specifiy as the remote management port is then fully open. Obviously, I can't leave a port exposed like this and, anyway, I need to open multiple ports for my purposes.
Is there a bug? Can technical support please help?
Some background: I'm in the UK and I connect to the internet using the Fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) technology. I have a BT supplied modem (Huawei Echolife HG612) which is completely locked (it is BT property) with no ability to log in and change settings. The WRT610N is plugged into the LAN socket of the modem and connects via PPPoE. Everything else works fine.

A firewall does not open or close a port. A firewall blocks or passes transient traffic. Thus if the port is closed on the computer it doesn't matter what the firewall does. The port will never show up as open as long as the port is not in use.

  • Router Port Forwarding not working since Mavericks

I have an iMac sat behind a BT Home Hub 3 (an ADSL router, if you're not aware), with several ports (POP3, SSH, HTTP, etc) from the outside world forwarded via the hub to my Mac. Since installing Mavericks (from Snow Leopard), NONE of these ports are now open.
They're open on the Mac, and another machine on my home network can use them locally, but from outside the network, they're hidden. Shields Up shows them as Stealth.
    Things I've tried:
    Rebooting everything.
Setting the Home Hub up again, forwarding all the ports again.
Turning all the sharing off in Mavericks and then back on.
Trying the same services on different ports.
    Trying different services.
    Turning off the Mac firewall.
    Turning off the router firewall.
Trying the Mac on another IP address and reforwarding everything to the new one.
Putting the Mac in the DMZ.
I can forward ports to other devices on my network (e.g. my NAS) and they work fine, so port forwarding isn't completely broken on the router
    Here's the thing though...
On a completely separate network, on a separate Mac (a 2012 MacBook Pro) that went from Mountain Lion to Mavericks, also behind a BT Home Hub 3, EXACTLY the same thing is happening. No ports can be forwarded to the MacBook Pro, but all the ports are open to the local network.
Any ideas? I'm pretty sure this must be a bug in Mavericks as I can't see anything else it can be.

It's not just single port forwarding that has bugs, the entire router has bugs and simply does not work as advertised. • ActionTec + second router = port forwarding issue

I'm having an issue with port forwarding (or maybe routing) across a pair of routers with different subnets. I know just enough about networking to be dangerous, but I can't figure this out. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable here can assist me.
Here's how my network is currently setup:
    1) Standard FIOS ActionTec MI424-WR Rev D router, using default 192.168.1.* subnet.
    2) Added a second router (D-Link Wireless-N w/ Gigabit Ethernet) using the 192.168.2.* subnet.
    3) A patch cable connects an ActionTec LAN port to the D-Link WAN port.
    4) Most of my computers connect to the D-Link router for faster network speeds (desktop PC, NAS, etc.)
    5) Both routers are running DHCP and broadcasting different SSIDs. This is so I can have a private network for my personal data (192.168.2.*) and a guest network (192.168.1.*) that friends/family/guests can use. Basically, from the 192.168.2.* network, I can access any network resource on either subnet; the 192.168.1.* network, however, cannot (easily) access the resources on the other subnet.
    6) This setup works perfectly and has met all of my needs so far.
Now, the problem I'm running into:
I purchased a security camera to monitor my home over the internet while away. It is connected to the D-Link router and I can access the camera without issue while on the 192.168.2.* network. Everything works fine locally. However, I cannot access the camera from the internet.  For sake of ease, let's use the following example setup:
    Internet IP = 74.1.2.3
    Router 1 = 192.168.1.1
    Router 2 = 192.168.2.1
    Camera = 192.168.2.2
    Camera Port = 12345
Accessing the camera locally via http://192.168.2.2:12345 works fine, but accessing it remotely via http://74.1.2.3:12345 does not. I assume a route or port forward needs to be set on Router 1 (the FIOS ActionTec)? Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Patrick

For future viewers, I will throw this out there. You don't normally want two routers with two port forward rules. The best practice is to give the second router a static ip on the lan of the first router and then put the second router in the dmz of the first router, and then apply port forward uses to the dmz'd router.

  • I'd like to get the best out my router (Port Forward issues)

I'm using the WRT54G2 for the router and the wmp54G. I'm trying to get games like America's Army and Team Fortress 2 to work properly. I assigned all my pc's static Ip's using the portforward guide. I forwarded the necessary ports.
I can't connect to my account on America's Army and I can't connect to any servers on Team Fortress 2. I've tried turning off my Anti-virus and firewall but still no luck. I'm trying to do this over the pc with the wireless connection.
    Any suggestions?
I also have another question: when forwarding ports or using the DMZ option, what IP address do I forward to? The pc directly connected to the router or the pc that's trying to use the ports (the wireless one)?
    btw, MY ISP is Comcast

In most cases, you can use the proxy DNS server that is built into the router at 192.168.1.1  (default address), but in your case would be at 192.168.2.1
Using the proxy DNS server is preferred.  The router keeps track of your ISP's actual Internet DNS server addresses, and forwards data to the appropriate DNS server.
If the router's proxy DNS server does not work, then enter your true Internet DNS server address into your computer.
Additionally, I see that you are using .101 and .102 addresses in your computers.  Your default DHCP server range is .100  thru .149 , so unless you changed it, you are using illegal fixed LAN IP addresses in your computers.  This might be the cause for your problems.  Note that all fixed LAN IP addresses must be outside your DHCP server range.

  • RVS4000 Router - Port forwarding problems

I added an alternate RDP port number for a machine. Port 8080, reboothed the server. I set port forewarding of the public side 8080 to the private side 8080 to 192.168.1.100. It works one day the next stops. When I try to RDP from work to my foreward IP it fails. But if I try from within the firewall LAN it works, and THEN it starts to work from my RDP session at work. Weird. anyone encounter the same thing? I just bought this router 2 days ago.
I did notice in the "Basic settings" area that port 8080 is used for "Remote Management" but neither the option "Enable" nor the option "Disable is selected.
    Should I disable it?

OK, this morning I was able to get in and all ports worked.
Pardon my ignorance but how do I save the logs to a text file? Remember, I have never used this router before.
"If the router is denying connections we should be able to see that with those two logs."
Funny you mention that. I had 5 IP's in my log, traced them back all 5 to china. So last night I blocked the entire inetnum range with the "IP Based ACL".

First off, DISABLE the dmz!! That opens ALL ports to your pc, you dont want that.
Second, because you had the pc in the dmz tells me that the router is not blocking port 25, again, in the dmz all ports are open.
Disable upnp, it will just cause problems and you arent using it anyway.
    Go to :
    https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
Click proceed, enter 25 in the box in the middle, then click user specified custom probe.
    Does it show as stealth?

  • WVC54GCA - Port forwarding issue

I recently purchased a Linksys WVC54GCA as a 2nd camera (I already have a wired Panasonic BLC1a, which works well internally and externally) I setup the Linksys camera using a separate static IP address and port 1025. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid,  but the only way I can access them through the Internet is to enable one, and disable the other in my router port forwarding. I have to forward port 80 to port 1025 to get the Linksys to work, which of course knocks off the Panasonic . I'd appreciate any thoughts anyone may.
I've setup through TZO , DYNDNS an Viewnetcam and all have the same issue

That's what I thought and figured the worse thing that would happen is I would use Viewnetcam.com for Cam1, and TZO for Cam2 if I had to.
    Cam1 (Panasonic) I have set as 192.xxx.xx.150
Cam2 (Linksys) I have set as 192.xxx.xx.151 and Port 1025
If I do nothing with Port forwarding in my router I can get to Cam1 through Viewnetcam. If I forward port 1025 to 1025 for Cam2 (which I thought this is what I'd have to do) Cam1 still works, Cam2 doesn't. If I forward Port 80 to 1025 for Cam2, then Cam2 works, but Cam1 doesn't. (If I go to VIewnetcam I see Cam2, and if I go to TZO I see CAM2. I don't see Cam1 at all) I setup a 3rd DNS ay DynDNS just to see if that made a difference and it works the same as the other two.
I keep thinking it's got to be something dumb I'm doing since the obviously both work from outside if I forward Port 80 to 1025 for Cam2, or Disable that and Cam1 comes back up)

  • Airport Extreme Simultaneous Dual-Band port forwarding broken if only TCP ports with firmware 7.6.1

When configuring my Airport Extreme Simultaneous Dual-Band router, port forwarding is broken if you only specify TCP ports to forward. This is with firmware 7.6.1. What happens is that after you hit the Update button, when the router comes back and you open the port forwarding entry, the IP is still there but the port numbers are missing.
I tried all different port numbers and ranges and nothing would stick if i only specified TCP ports. If i added UDP ports with the TCP ports then it would save them. And if you add a new entry with only UDP it saves them too.
Now this is with adding a new port forwarding. I already have existing ports being forwarded that only have TCP. They are still working. I believe i added them with a previous version of the firmware.
Any one else see this issue? Any ideas?
Maybe i should perform a hard reset and reload a saved config.
    Peace,
    Dan

I haven't seen the issue but you could just downgrade to an earlier firmware:
