Linksys router with 2 different air port cards

I have a Pismo and a G3 iBook 500. Both have air port cards in them. The pismo is running 10.4 and the iBook is running 10.3. Neither of them are able to pick up my Linksys router. I have a Pc laptop, G4 eMac and a BW G3 tower that can all pick up the router just fine. The eMac and G3 are both running a USB network adapter. Any suggestions?
Also does the original base station need a card in it? I found an auction that says the card has been removed from the base.

Is your Linksys operating in an 802.11b compatible mode?
Also does the original base station need a card in it?
Yes

  • The error message "no air port card installed" keeps coming up

I have a mac book pro from 2010... recently set the computer up to act as more of a desktop by adding a monitor etc.  I went to use the internet but the computer error message popped up saying "no air port card installed"  I tried a few things that were listed but nothing seemed to reset this.  I bought a wireless usb adapter but it was only compatable with a microsoft windows which I do not have.  I dont want to take it to get a new airport card installed as it is an old computer and the screen is partially broken, but i would like to know if there is a wireless usb adapter that would be compatible or even if the air port express would work in spite of the error message that I have been getting.  would love some thoughts or ideas. thanks!

First before getting another wireless USB adapter, try the following:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)
    Please post back your results.

  • How apply cgi on Linksys router with safari

I'm having issues of setting preferences on a Linksys router with Safari and a Mac. Am I missing a setting on Safari to allow cgi?

I want to set how many users allowed on my small local network. I can use a different browser to accomplish this but would like to use Safari. From time to time I do maintenance on the router and need to access the router preferences. Also at this time trying to trouble shoot the router for not allowing PC's to show up on the network FInder, a completely different problem and off topic.

  • Air port card for emac

I own a emac computer and my children just got mac books, we bought a base station so we could have wireless in our house but we arre having trouble finidng what type of card to buy for the emac. We got different answeres from the people that worked at the mac store, one told us to buy a usb card and one told us only to buy the orginial air port card.
So i guess my question is, can we not buy the airport extreme card, do we buy the orginial or buy a usb?
and does it make a difference if it was used or not?

First use the information in KB 86325, eMac: How to locate the serial number and identify your model to identify which type of eMac you have.
If you have one of these eMacs
    eMac (ATI Graphics)
    eMac (USB 2.0)
    eMac (2005)
you require the AirPort Extreme card.
Any other eMac requires the original AirPort card.
and does it make a difference if it was used or not?
Used cards can work just as well as new ones.

  • HT1218 do you have to have a wireless router with the macbook air

do you have to have a wirelss router with the macbook air if you do not have internet in your home

If you do not have internet at home - MacBook Air works perfectly fine offline.
It is advisable to connect it to the internet ocasionally to update it.

  • No air port card installed

10.6.8 macbook pro was using it perfectly fine the day before shut down pc as usual.wake up try to connect to internet find out no air port card installed
tried a few resets from site not having any luck.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Most likely you either, didn't get your Airport card fully inserted when you removed it to replace your RAM module or the antennae wire was not fully pushed in. Push on the Airport card (make sure it's facing the right direction) until you're certain that it is fully seated. When you connect the antennae wire, there should be one or two audible snaps and the square end of the connector should be right against the end of the card.
If you need additional instructions look here:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-iBook-G4-14-Inch-933-MHz-1-33-GHz- AirPort-Extreme-Card/176/1
I just used that model as an example as I don't know which iBook model you have.
    Good Luck,
    Randy
Actually, if your System Profiler says there is no Airport card installed, the problem wouldn't be the antennae wire.

  • ITunes Library set up on NetGear R6100 router with ReadyShare from USB port?

Can the iTunes Library be set up on a NetGear R6100 router with it's NetGear ReadyShare feature. from a USB thumb drive or USB hard drive attached to the one available R6100 router's USB 2.0 port?
I have read the Apple forum post about a similar question for the more advanced NetGear R7000 router, which says it can work there.  Unlike some of the other sibling Netgear routers that do not have ReadyShare, my R6100 does, which leads me to believe that it should work, since its the same technology (they both have a router USB port with ReadyShare). It just appears that the documentation is very limited. The other post said to format the USB drive to the Apple format (HFS+), rather than Fat32, get the Mac or Apple to see the iTunes directory located on the router's USB port.
I'd like to know if anyone has had any luck using the ReadyShare.feature on their R6100 for sharing their iTunes library to the same iTunes account on different devices (laptop, PC, AppleTV, iPod, etc).  My Apple TV has recently acquired a problem of not being able to detect the iTunes library on my PC, aftert a recent iTunes update, but that's another problem that the forums show a lot of people having.  So I figured that since my R6100 router has the ability to share media over the network, I would try to move my iTunes library there, hopefully to make it easier to access by my Apple TV, and make it unnecessary to have my PC running when I watch my purchased iTunes movies, that are stored in that library.  Interestingly, my movie and TV show files are stored in my iTunes Music folder under the "Movies" and "TV Shows" subdirectories (folders). The way it is set up now, if I'm watching a HD movie purchased from iTunes with my Apple TV, the movie stops playing as soon as my PC is shut down, which confirms to me that the large movie files are being pulled from there to my Apple TV.

Oh groan, not another conspiracy theory.  No, it's a lot more likely Apple and Netgear and the dozens of other manufacturers haven't gotten together with the thousands users who have come up with hundreds of thousands of ways of rigging things up and tested each and every one of them.  I am confident if Apple were out to mess things up for you they could have come up with something a lot more devious.
Did you do a web search for this?  With a Google search specifying Netgear with this error I found:
ReadySHARE USB Hard drive access issue from a Mac Computer (Time Machine or iTunes not working properly)
    - Able to see USB hard drive content but unable to write to USB hard drive connected to router's Readyshare port from Mac computer.
    - Error that says  "The iTunes application could not be opened. Unknown error 13008"
    http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22763/~/readyshare-usb-hard-drive- access-issue-from-a-mac-computer-%28time-machine-or
In fact it is almost certain that it is an issue of that particular model router and the drive formats it can use.

I bought a Air Port Express device from Apple yesterday.  We decided to set the Air port device in a room near the router to use as a wifi extender to areas of the house where the signal is weak.  In our discussion with Josh, the Apple Rep.  he explained how it can either be connector to the router or use in another room relying on the existing wifi signal to extend it further into the house.  We have verizon DSL.  Our town is very small...no cable provided so we are lucky to have what we have...some areas of our town can't even get what we have.  We, didn't want to connect it directly to the Verizon device (router)....we followed the directions from Josh as well as the explicit directions provided by Apple support...it didn't work. We keep getting an error message.  Does anyone have any advice ?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Please speak in "Laymen's terms"  I am not technically savy....but..am determined to get this set up.  Thanks to anyone, in advance!

In our discussion with Josh, the Apple Rep.  he explained how it can either be connector to the router or use in another room relying on the existing wifi signal to extend it further into the house.
Unfortunately, it appears that Josh was not aware that the AirPort Express can only "extend" a wireless signal from another Apple router.
    From Apple's literature:
Extend an existing Wi-Fi network’s range.
If you already have a wireless network in your home and want to extend its range, AirPort Express can help. Just place it in range of your primary base station — an AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule, or another AirPort Express — and near the area where you want your wireless connection. Launch the easy-to-use AirPort Utility app on your iOS device or Mac, and you’re mere minutes away from long-range Wi-Fi enjoyment.
The AirPort Express is not compatible with a Verizon product for this purpose.
Your might want to have another conversation with Josh to ask his advice on how best to proceed at this point.
If you do decide to keep the AirPort Express, it will be necessary to connect it to your Verizon router using a wired Ethernet cable connection if you want the Express to provide more wireless signal coverage.

  • Linksys router with wep enabled

    Hi,
Im trying to use WIFI on my touch with my network secured. I have entered the password and it is accepted however the touch says it cant find the server. When I de-activate the WEP security on my router everything works as advertised. I have no idea what to put in the following items in set up
    HTTP Proxy
    Server
    Port (Http should be 80)
    Auth
i have tried entering manual username and password as i would for earthlink and this didnt help. When in un-secured mode it didnt ask and everything worked. Help

Make sure that you type in the code, rather than your username. You should be able to find it on your Linksys router under a tab that says wireless security. Type in, in your internet browser's address bar: 192.168.1.1. That should bring up the interface for you router.
For WEP, you should have 128 bit encryption, which means that your passphrase should be 13 letters long. If you have to change this, the other devices in your network will have to be changed to reflect the new passphrase. You should also power off your router when you introduce a new device into your network.
Have you thought about using WPA or WPA2? Usually this works better than WEP which is not as secure.
Power off your iTouch by pressing the button at the top. Turn it on again and see if you can get access to your network.

  • Using Linksys router with Time Capsule / Airtunes...

    Hi,
Does anyone have any idea how I can use my old Linksys WRT54G wireless router with my Time Capsule in such a way that the WRT54G provides a b/g network and I can have my Time Capsule provide just 802.11n for the best possible speed?
I have the two connected via Ethernet (TC connected directly to my cable modem) but don't seem to be able to get things to work.
I know I must be on the edge of getting this to work but am obviously missing the final step...
Cheers in advance for any help you can give,

  • Linksys router with cisco switch

    Hello everyone,
Just wondering if i can connect a cisco switch to my linksys router. Any info will be helpful. Thanks.

Well, you should be more specific what info you need.
Your question is answered with: yes, you connect a cisco switch to a linksys router. You can connect pretty much any ethernet switch or hub to a linksys router.
Beyond that I don't know what you want to know and thus cannot really give you more info.

  • Linksys router with only a wireless laptop?

    Hi,
I'm going over to my folks tonight to set up their Linksys wireless router.  They have DSL service and just a wireless enabled laptop.  I understand the router will need to be connected to the laptop for initial setup. Once that setup is complete, will they then be able to disconnect the cable from the router to the laptop and use the laptop throughout their home?  They do not have a desktop pc to permanently plug the router into.  Will this be a problem?
    Thanks for your help,
    Jason

You should use a wired connection to configure the router initially simply because otherwise you may have difficulties connecting to the correct router wireless in the beginning if other people in the proximity run another Linksys router in default configuration. Thus it is highly recommended to use a wired connection although it is possible to configure the whole router without ever connecting a wired computer to it.
I think you must use a wired connection if want to use the setup program on the CD. But it is not mandatory to run the setup CD. Sometimes the program will not even be able to successfully configure the router.
You can always configure the whole router through the web configuration interface at http://192.168.1.1/ Again, for the initial configuration use a wired connection to configure the wireless network and to secure it.
Regardless how you do the initial setup, after the router works you don't need a desktop connected. You don't even need a computer if you just connect a wireless device like a WLAN VOIP phone or a Tivo or similar.

  • Iphone 3 and 4 can't connect with wireless through air port

We purchased a new Time Capsule yesterday to replace one that stopped working.  We have been able to get the Air Port/network working for our Mac Books and iPads, but cannot access the wireless network on our iPhones (a 3 and a 4).  The wireless connection function on the phones show the network and shows a check mark next to the network, but does not switch to the wireless network from 3G.  We tried to 'forget the network' and sign in again, making sure we are on the WPA2.  Any other suggestions?   Tami

I had this happen to me yesterday.  I have a AirPort Extreme and my iPhone was unable to connect to the wireless network.
I tried everything from resetting the network settings on my iPhone, Hardbooting the iPhone,  and even changing the wireless password on my Wireless network and restarting the AirPort Extreme.  Nothing worked.
    However here is my solution:
Hardware restart.  I just unplugged the AE waited about 20 seconds and plugged it back in.  When it came back up ...My iPhone was able to connect to the network.

  • Air Port Card not installed!!

Hi, I have had my brand new imac for about 4 months now. It worked fine up until 2 months ago. My airport card would just dissappear. Now the icon is not grayed out it is just not there. When I click on it, it says there is no airport card installed. I know there is one because when I 1st started it up I could connect fine and every now and again it would work. I just came home one day and found that it said no airport installed. I really don't understand what the problem is. I have taken it to the apple store twice and both times I was told It was fixed but after maybe a week I would do the same thing. I just got my computer back on Monday and today I cut it on and once again no airport installed. It is really frustrating because I am going to be taking online classes in Jan and I really need a computer that workes the way it is supposed to. Is there any sloution to this problem and if not how do I get a replacement computer.

    HI and welcome....
Make sure your iMac recognizes the Airport Card using the System Profiler, instructions here.
My AirPort connection does not work
Is there any sloution to this problem and if not how do I get a replacement computer.
If you don't see the Airport card in the System Profiler following the instructions at that link, you need to take the iMac back to the Apple store. You can make reservations in advance here.

  • HT4628 My MacBook pro has suddenly stopped connecting to Internet and says that "no air port card installed". Please help

It was working all ok until last night, just tried connecting through cable but I am still unable to do so. How do I fix this? Any help?

What do you mean by "tried connecting through cable"?  I can think of two different things you might mean.
It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
    1) Use the AirPort/Wi-Fi menu bar item to turn AirPort/Wi-Fi off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort/Wi-Fi menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort/Wi-Fi item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort/Wi-Fi connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".  Note that the fix this step implements may be temporary.
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( _not_ <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try.  Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.  If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.
