Linksys SRW 2048 constant blinking and slow

Hi all. I tried to search but was not very successful with finding my answer but my problem is that all of the ports are constantly blinking fast. Is this normal?
I have the 2048 switch connected to a linksys wrvs440n router on port 48. Even the non connected ports are blinking dimmly. The internet appear slow as well. If I directly connect a PC to the router (bypass switch) the internet speed is greatly increased.
I am not sure what to look for in the webview. Does anyone have any ideas that I can try?
I even get this constant blinking if only one PC and the router is connected.
THANKS

THanks eepro. The ports that have a pc connected to are blinking constantly which I thought meant a collision was occuring. the other ports are only dimly lit and blinking but I think that just may be the other lights lighting them up from behind the front panel. The problem is even if there is only one pc connected there still seems to be constant blinking on that one port....
The switch just came new from linksys on a warrantee return.
Thanks

  • LINKSYS SRW 2048 bug on the web console ?

    Hello,
    hope you can help us.
we are experiencing a bug on 2  LINKSYS SRW 2048, that we use since more the 4 years now.
We are currently configuring them for Vmware, we never accessed them trough the console (web gui), but now that we need the switch to be configured (vlan, trunk, ec..) it suddenly reboot every time we enter user and password and press the enter key.
We know that they are pretty old but we just wanted to give it a try...maybe someone of you alreday encountered the same problem.
    best regards,
    Robi

    Dear Lati,
Thank you for reaching Small Business Support Community and for your time and patience regarding your inquiry.
    I would first suggest you to reset the switch; unplug it, wait a minute and plug it back in, then try the console connection through hyperterminal as described in the chapter 4 of the admin guide;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/csbms/srw2048/administration/guide/SRW-US_v10_UG_A-Web.pdf
If the problem persists reset the router once more and try the web-based utility as described by the same admin guide, chapter 5.
If you are still unable to login the device I would then suggest you to contact the Small Business Contact Center for further assistance and please do not hesitate to reach me back if there is anything I may assist you with in the meantime.

  • What can I do about constant beachballing and slowness?

For the past four months my computer has been painfully slow. It beachballs constantly and for long periods of time, especially in Safari (not sure about other browsers). Sometimes all of the windows I have up go blank and appear to refresh themselves. The CPU usage is high at random intervals even though I don’t have much running. My laptop is running Snow Leopard and is almost 4 years old, so I understand slowing with age, but I feel like something else is wrong.
I still have the OS software but I'd prefer not to lose everything by reinstalling.

Let’s start with gathering some basic info.
(I think the following sequence works on Snow Leopard.  If not it is close and you can futz to find the info.)
Which MacBook do you have?  Please report back the season, year, and model identifier for your Mac.
     > About this Mac
Note the specific version number of the OS.
    More Info…
              Note the season and year.
              Note the amount of RAM.
    System Report… > Model Identifier:
              Note the Model Identifier.
    Storage
Note the total amount and the amount used.
    Post this information back.
I recently rejuvenated a 2009 MacBook from slow to quite fast with a combination of an OS reïnstall and hardware upgrades.  With the RAM upgrade the applications went from a long time to start to staring almost instantly and the boot time improved by 2x with an 8 GB RAM upgrade (~$100) and another 5x with a clean install and an upgrade from a disk to an SSD.  Let’s see how fast your Mac will go with some system maintenance and then you may want to consider RAM and/or disk upgrades.
In general, slowness can also be caused by incompatible 3rd-party software or an unhealthy SSD/disk.  Four months ago did you download any 3rd-party software or plugins?  If so that may lead down the software compatibility route.  Otherwise it may be a disk and/or RAM issue.
Over time one accumulates more 3rd-party plugins that take more memory.  If you have 1 or 2 GB of memory then more RAM can really help.  Your machine “almost four year old” Mac would make it a 2009 model which may hold up to 8 GB of RAM (a ~$100 upgrade).  I can check that when you report back with the specific system info.
You mentioned not wanting to lose your data.  Make sure you have a current backup.  You should always have a current backup anyway and it is particularly important if your Mac having problems.  If you do not have a Time Machine or other backup, create one before you proceed.  You will need an external drive you will dedicated to the backup.
    Time Machine Basics: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
    Most commonly used backup methods:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3045
Nothing in the following instructions should alter your user data but you should always have a backup before making major changes such as OS installs and other changes.
    Hardware:
Check the health of your disk using Disk Utility
Finder > Go > Utilities > Disk Utility
Select the upper left disk icon > Look at the S.M.A.R.T. status.
If it does not say “Verified” then the SSD/disk will need to be replaced.  Definitely backup your system.
Select the volume icon slightly indented to the right usually labeled “Macintosh HD” > Verify Disk
If it finishes with "The Volume XXX appears to be OK.” then the filesystem is healthy.
    See http://pondini.org/OSX/DU6.html for pictorial instructions.
While there > Repair Disk Permissions.
Don’t worry about lots of warnings or error messages from repairing disk permissions.
If Verify Disk reported errors in red and/or did not finish with the green OK message, then repair the system disk.
Boot from the Snow Leopard install disk.
              Insert the disk.
Boot - hold down the C key.
Use Disk Utility to repair the disk.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5836 steps 3 though 7.
If the repair fails the first time, run it once or twice again.
If the repair succeeds but the system is still slow,  reïnstall OS X.
Mac OS X 10.6: Reinstalling Mac OS X.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH6606
Reïnstalling OSX will not effect your personal data.
However, have a backup, just in case.
Is the system running faster now?
    Software:
    Boot in Safe Mode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
It will boot and shutdown slower than normal.
Does the problem go away in Safe Mode?
If so then there are Login Items that may be causing the problem.
 > System Preferences > Users & Groups > Click on your user name > Login Items
Use “-“ to remove items you do not need.
    Did that resolve the problem?
    Try and SMC Reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Create a new user account and login to it.
Is it faster in this other account?
If it is still slow run http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck and post the results.  We are looking for incompatible software such as kernel extensions that may have slowed down the system.

  • Constant freeze and slow performance when wake up

    hi,
my laptop freezes all the time  like when i play music for long time especially when norton performs a background check.
also when i open it and it was on sleep it becomes very slow when i open chrom, or play a movie.
alot of time  sudden stop of the cruser and very slow performance that it can't even opens the my computer.
I always have to restart the windows.

  • Constant Updates and Slow Start

My laptop updates constantly, nearly every time I turn it on, and many times when I try to turn it off. It is extremely frustrating.  It may have to do with Windows 8.  I have never had a laptop/pc that needed to update so frequently.  The most frustrating aspect is that I cannot work on it while it is updating. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi, You have to allow it to get full update otherwise it will update every time you turn your machine on. My suggestion (a) Using Windows update to update few updates at a time, you may have to do few times until no more update, then(b) Turn off auto update and only undate when you want     http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/turn-automatic-updating-on-off#turn-automatic-updating-on-off=windows-8 Regards.

  • Constant disconnects and slow speed

Between 7am and 9pm my internet is just terrible. I lose connection pretty much all day. The longest I'm able to be online is maybe half an hour. It just goes out at random times and stays out until later at night and it will come back.
Also my speed is just all over the place. When downloading stuff it goes from 380 kb/s to 100 kb/s and goes back and forth.
    I have a Westell 327w.
    Transceiver Revision: 7.2.3.0
    Vendor ID Code: 4
    Line Mode: G.DMT Mode
    Data Path: Interleaved
Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream Path
    DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 3360 640
    Margin (dB) 21.5 10.0
    Line Attenuation (dB) 24.5 13.0
    Transmit Power (dBm) 7.3 11.9
I forgot to mention that 2 technicians came out. The first one came out ran a test and said everything was fine. The second one came out and did a test and went up the street for something. He also said that the connection would go out for a day or two. It has been 2 and a half weeks since.

#1 Margin (dB) - Signal to noise margin. 6 is pretty bad possibly unusable at times, 20 is very good. You normally want 12dB or better IIRC from back in my DSL days. The higher the number, the better to a point.
Line Attenuation - Measure the amount the signal has degraded. Below 20dB is excellent, above 50 is poor, fill in the dots for anything in between.
    a) Did you try connecting your modem directly to the NID?
    Points to: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/1317
    b) If not, please do and retest those margins and Line Attenuation.

  • Linksys SRW 224G4, Cisco Catalyst 3650G and management via trunk

I have couple of Linksys SRW 224G4 and SRW 2024 connected together with Cisco C3650 switches. For my part of network VLAN100 is used as administrative vlan and VLAN1 as defult (on trunks or unused ports).
Altrough most of switches work fine, on all older models of SRW224G4 (hw 1.0, various firmware versions) there is no connectivity to management utilities (also ping won't work) via trunk (where of course VLAN100 is present). At the same time there is no problem with access on "local" ports (assigned to VLAN100) and there are no problems with traffic on VLAN 100 along the network.
    For example:
Two computers (A and B), two switches (sw1 - old SRW224G4 and sw2 - Cisco switch), are connected as follow:
    A--VLAN100--sw1--TRUNK--sw2--VLAN100--B
Swicthes have VLAN100 as management VLAN, computers are connected to access ports (untagged).
A has access to management on sw1 and sw2 and connectivity with B
B has access to management on sw2 and connectivity with B but has no access to management on sw1...
If sw1 and sw2 are same, old SRW224G4 - everything works fine.
Newer versions of SRW224G4, SRW2024 and SLM2024 works OK.
    Why it doesn't work?
    Thank for your attention.

I don’t thing there is difference with the old and new versions of the SRW224G4 unless there is a reported case of firmware problem with the said switch. As what you have said you also tested the new version of SRW224G4 and other models of these manage switches and seemed to work. I suggest totally resetting the said switch, making sure you updated the latest firmware version and making the necessary VLAN configurations.
Other than these, I suggest contacting Cisco Tech support to further look into your concern. I believe this unit belongs to the business series devices that Cisco is now supporting. Try to go to this link for the other business series devices and the site where you can get hold of Cisco for support:

  • Constant Limited access and slow speed on BT Infin...

    Hi all,
Just joined BT from AOL due to bad customer service and a rubbish service (did me good for previous 10+ years though)
Anyhow, just got BT infinity Option 1 installed on Friday the 17th and on that day it was perfect.
Everyday since the engineer visited i am getting limited internet access every so often and slow broadband.
    Makes AOL seem super fast
Say i have 5 full signal bars on my laptop, i will click a webpage. The page will come up as Internet explorer cannot open the page. There is then a warning sign on my signal bars!
I refresh the page and it comes up Fine.... nearly every time.
But all this takes a while.
Im sure i read for the first 3 days the broadband can be slow?
Cant deal with this if its gonna happen all the time!!
All help appreciated. Anyone with the same problem??
BT said they are monitoring the line for 24hrs.
    Thanks

He carnt run a speed test, if hes getting the dreaded limited service on his wirless bars on his laptop it will not connect to the internet. Have you gone over your usage allowance or something?. It not it is definate a signal wirless problem. I used to get it sometimes back on business broadband on ADSL but it just used to go off when I reset the laptop and turned it back on again. Might be different with you though!.

Since upgrading I my system has virtually come to a standstill. Lengthy opening of FF, sudden closing of multi sites, constant stop script scenarios, constant hangups, and over all extremely long processing times.

  • Linksys SRW-224, network performance optimization

Hi.  I am seeking advice on how to configure our network for best performance.
Background is that I have just joined a group of non-techie workers in a 4k sq ft office, there are currently only 3 other people here.  We "inherited" an existing network infrastructure using 2 Linksys SRW-224 switches.  As a software developer I am the obvious candidate to set these up and maintain them.  When I arrived last week, the network was operational but flaky.  The switches were in their default configuration, so I made sure they had different IP addresses and were secure.  We are getting internet access via a Verizon DSL connection.  Wifi was going through the Verizon router itself, bypassing the switches.  I turned off the wifi on that router and purchased a Cicso wifi router and plugged it into one of the Linksys ports so that it's connection would be a "peer" to the other cabled connections and could be managed.
There are two issues I would like to address:
    1) Most of us use the internet for garden variety browsing and email.  This all works fine until one of the users - who is a photographer - starts to upload a batch of images to his web server, sometimes gigabytes at a time.  When he does this, internet performance for everyone else slows to a crawl if not stops.  I believe he uses an http based utility to do the uploading, so I can't focus on protocol, I think it must be a port-based solution(?).  Ideally, a solution would allow him 100% of the bandwidth when no one else is around, but allow everyone else what they need to work when they need it.
    2) Occassionally per day we need to do something special like have a Skype conference call, use a VOIP app or do remote database work (port 3306 or 1434).  I think there are QoS features in our switches that can assist with that, but I'm not quite sure how to use them.  We would want as much bandwidth as necessary available for these things when they are needed, but available for other purposes when not.\
We are actively looking for alternatives to DSL as it's obviously low performance, but we would like to know what we can accomplish with the switches first.  No doubt what we learn will apply to a faster connection as well.
    Thanks in advance.
