Linksys SRW 224G4, Cisco Catalyst 3650G and management via trunk

I have couple of Linksys SRW 224G4 and SRW 2024 connected together with Cisco C3650 switches. For my part of network VLAN100 is used as administrative vlan and VLAN1 as defult (on trunks or unused ports).
Altrough most of switches work fine, on all older models of SRW224G4 (hw 1.0, various firmware versions) there is no connectivity to management utilities (also ping won't work) via trunk (where of course VLAN100 is present). At the same time there is no problem with access on "local" ports (assigned to VLAN100) and there are no problems with traffic on VLAN 100 along the network.
For example:
Two computers (A and B), two switches (sw1 - old SRW224G4 and sw2 - Cisco switch), are connected as follow:
A--VLAN100--sw1--TRUNK--sw2--VLAN100--B
Swicthes have VLAN100 as management VLAN, computers are connected to access ports (untagged).
A has access to management on sw1 and sw2 and connectivity with B
B has access to management on sw2 and connectivity with B but has no access to management on sw1...
If sw1 and sw2 are same, old SRW224G4 - everything works fine.
Newer versions of SRW224G4, SRW2024 and SLM2024 works OK.
Why it doesn't work?
Thank for your attention.

I don’t thing there is difference with the old and new versions of the SRW224G4 unless there is a reported case of firmware problem with the said switch. As what you have said you also tested the new version of SRW224G4 and other models of these manage switches and seemed to work. I suggest totally resetting the said switch, making sure you updated the latest firmware version and making the necessary VLAN configurations.
Other than these, I suggest contacting Cisco Tech support to further look into your concern. I believe this unit belongs to the business series devices that Cisco is now supporting. Try to go to this link for the other business series devices and the site where you can get hold of Cisco for support:

  • Linksys SPA942 on Cisco Catalyst C3524-XL-PWR

I'm almost pulling out my hair trying to connect a Linksys SPA942 IP phone to use the inline power of a Cisco catalyst C3524-XL-PWR. The switch has been set up as per the procedures for Cisco IP phones. However when I plug in the Linksys phone it does not come on. The linksys SPA942 is a IEEE 802.3af poe device and I expected that plugging it into the Cisco catalyst c3524-xl-pwr should do the trick. Does anyone know if the phone is compatible with the switch? I yes how do I get the bleeding phone to power off the switch?
    TIA

The 1999 era Catalyst C3524-XL-PWR switch does NOT support IEEE 802.3af power, only Cisco proprietary power for Cisco IP phones and wireless access points. This is a hardware limitation. This is very clear in any of the data sheets or documentation for that switch on Cisco's web site.
You would need a C3550 POE switch or higher to support IEEE 802.3af. If you are using a chassis based Catalyst switch (i.e. 4500 or 6500) then you will need to confirm the linecard support IEEE 802.3af POE, most do not.
Hope that helps. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

  • Conecting etherchannel between cisco catalyst 6509 and hp procourve 9308

Impossible to connet 2 ports 1000base sx agrouped via etherchannel / lacp or pagp between a catalyst 6509 and a hp procourve 9308. Please do you know he best configuration? thanks in advance

    Hola Luis,
the link would have to be LACP (since PAgP is Cisco proprietary). So, on the Cisco side, the config should look like this:
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    channel-group 1 mode on
    interface GigabitEthernet0/2
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    channel-group 1 mode on
    interface Port-channel1
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
On the HP side, check how the trunk group is configured there. I assume you have used the ´trunk deploy´ command after configuring the HP trunk group ? Also, which spanning-tree mode do you have running on the Cisco and the HP ?

  • Cisco IP SLA and Manage Engine Netflow Analyzer

I am not sure if any one can help with this.
I am trying to get IPSLA monitor working with a Cisco 2911 and to view it through manage engine netflow anaylzer.
does any one know if  I need a specific Cisco license to get this feature working
I have ip sla responder as a config option and the instructions, state this is all that is required?

Previously no additional license's were required to enable features.
But with the new 15.x versions and later, you need to have your devices license for higher than ipbase.
Any feature set greater than "ipbase" will enable IP SLA. You can check the license details under show version. Example (snippet)
Technology Package License Information for Module:'c2900'
    Technology Technology-package Technology-package
    Current Type Next reboot
    ipbase ipbasek9 Permanent ipbasek9
    security None None None
    uc None None None
    data None None None
Apart from this, you need to enable the datak9 feature.
The 15.x code has licensing features  not seen in 12.4, and the "datak9" package has to be accepted.
To check, run a "show license" command, and I see the following:
    Index 4 Feature: datak9
    Period left: Not Activated
Period Used: 0 minute 0 second
    License Type: EvalRightToUse
License State: Not in Use, EULA not accepted
    License Count: Non-Counted
    License Priority: None
To activate it, please try the following command:
    device(config)#license accept end user agreement
    accepted the EULA and then:
    device#license boot module c2900 technology-package datak9
After this please save the config and reboot the device and see you can configure the IP
SLA commands. For more details on how to configure device for IP SLA on 15M IOS, as it has
IP SLA Engine III as compared to IP SLA Engine II on older 12.x series, check the
    following details :

  • Cisco 3750x DHCP and Management VLAN

We use 3750x switches in the stack, it has management VLAN (IP Address and Gateway configured correctly). I can ssh to switch fine. However we also use this switch as DHCP server for a number of different VLANS. So, I would create a DHCP pool, interface in this VLAN. Now, if I'm in VLAN3 that gets DHCP address on this switch I'm not able to ssh to this switch via Management VLAN IP Address 192.168.5.253 (can ping it fine), but I can ssh into this switch using Interface IP Address from the VLAN that I'm sitting on 192.168.3.253. For example
    ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.3.253 192.168.3.254
    ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.5.253 192.168.5.254
    ip dhcp pool VLAN_3

    ip default-gateway 192.168.5.254
    interface Vlan3

  • RPS and Cisco Catalyst 2950 and 3550 switches

We are doing experiments with RPS and CC 2950 and 3550. When we unplug the main power, the RPS takes over and feeds the switch with power. But when we plug the main power back again, the switch contiues to take power from the RPS. How is the power reduncancy achieved with CC 2950 and/or 3550s?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dardan

You will need to press the active/standby button on the RPS for the internal power supply in the switch to take over. Note that this can cause the switch to reload and do it in your maintenance window if this switch is in production.

  • Catalyst 3750x and 4510R and Cisco Security Manager

    Hi,
I just downloaded and install trial (evaluation) version of Cisco Security Manager 4.3. In supported devices list I saw Cisco Catalyst 3750 and 4510R but when I try to add it I got for 3750:
Invalid device: Device is a switch and cannot be mapped to a Generic Router model.
Please verify the selected device type, OS version and device configuration
    For 4510R:
Invalid device: Version 03.03.00.SG (N/A) is not supported for the device type of Cisco Catalyst 4510R Switch Please verify the selected device type, OS version and device configuration
We need to make a purchase decision but for it we need to import all of our devices and perform some tests.
Thanks in advance for your replies!
    BR, Vasily.

I figured this out on my own -- change Compatibility mode of the installer to be Windows 8 (which is same OS version as Windows 2012) and it installs just fine.

  • Making a switching choice - Catalyst 500/520/ESW Linksys SRW/SFE

Greetings would someone be able to clarrify please what direction Cisco is taking in regards to the SMB switching product line as i am starting to get somewhat confussed.
From my estimation we currently have the following available for the SMB market, agreed there is a significant price difference between some of the product lines but it appears as though the choice when choosing an appropriate switch is becoming somewhat blurred and is beginning to come down to price rather than features and or performance characteristics.
Cisco Catalyst Express 500 Series Switches
Cisco Catalyst Express 520 Series Switches
Cisco Small Business Pro ESW 500 Series Switches
Cisco Small Business Managed Switches (Linksys Business Series)
Cisco Small Business Smart Switches (Linksys Business Series)
    Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Switches
Can i ask if there are any plans to merge some of the product lines such as the 500 and 520 which are both similiarly priced, managed almost identically and have the same feature set.
Are there plans for the ESW line to replace the existing Linksys SRW/SFE and Cisco 500/520 equivalents?
Would i correct in assuming that the ESW line runs IOS Code?
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
    Regards
    Mark Rigby

    Mark,
    Great questions.  Thanks for posting.
    1. Yes, you can expect that over time the ESW 500 Series will replace the Catalyst Express Series.
    2. There are no plans for the ESW 500 series to replace the SRW/SFE switches.  These product families are somewhat overlapping, but are targeted towards different types of small business customers and VAR partners.
    3. You are incorrect in assuming the ESW is IOS based.  It is not.
The attached PDF provides a high-level comparison of the Cisco switches that sell into SMB.

  • Catalyst 2960 and SGE500 switches

    Hi,
Can we  on the same network use Cisco Catalyst 2960 and Cisco SGE500 switches and share the same VLANs ?

    Hi,
I didn't find VLAN support in key feautures of SGE500 but I'm sure it is there. For VLAN sharing you must configure trunk between switches. The number of VLAN must be the same (exluded some cases).
For sharing VLAN information (VLAN count, names etc) the switches must support VTP protocol, not sure that SGE500 support it. But VTP is not necessary for trunking between switches.

  • Monitoring Cisco Catalyst 4506

    Hello
I am looking Cisco SNMP MIB or some Nagios plugin that allow to monitoring PoE status on Cisco Catalyst 4506 modules and check Led indicator status  simmilar I can do it by coomand "show enviroment "
Module 2 Status Led Color : Green    PoE Led Color: Orange
Module 3 Status Led Color : Green    PoE Led Color : Green
    Thank you very much

    Hi jon.marshall,
Thanks for you reply. I'll explain how the traffic flows:
    1. Client boot up workstation
    2. After booting up, client obtain IP addressing through DHCP service from a remote DHCP server using gateway of VLAN210 (172.18.212.1)
    3. IP addressing issued to client (for e.g 172.18.212.128) and open web browser (HTTP) using a proxy (proxy.skynet.gov) with a DNS setting of skynet.gov.
    4. Next hop is a Juniper Enforcer (a.k.a firewall) with IP address 172.18.221.234 (Enforcer 1 - Master) and 172.18.221.235 (Enforcer 2 - Backup) which have a policy rule stating that the client range of 172.18.212.0 to 172.18.212.255 wanting to contact the proxy (proxy.skynet.gov), the next hop would be the Juniper UAC Host checker (with IP address of 172.18.223.254).
Note: There are 2x physical Junpier Enforcer and only 1x Juniper Host Checker
    5. Juniper UAC Host Checker checks client workstation to ensure that minimum requirements are met before allowing client to go to internet
    6. Once clients pass the Juniper UAC Host Checker, traffic to the internet is then allowed.
    7. Clients surf the internet.
    8. End
    To answer your questions:
    i. The UAC is not on the same subnet however, all routing is done on the Cisco Catalyst 4506 and the UAC and VLAN are all on the 4506 too.
ii. I'm not sure if the Juniper UAC is the one that makes all Http request of VLAN210 (172.18.212.0 to 172.18.212.255) or it will let the client make its on Http request after it passes the host checker.
iii. Yes. I have 2x Cisco Catalyst 4506 and they are connected to each other through HSRP
iv. The proxy (proxy.skynet.gov) is configured on the clients browser.
Note: Is the DNS name of the proxy server, NOT the IP address of the proxy server.
I hope the above provided information is sufficient for you reference to provide me the actual syntax for my requirement. Thanks.
    Cheers!!!

  • Cisco Network Assistant, and Linksys Switches?

    Hi all,
Given that Cisco owns Linksys, that CNA seems aimed at the small/medium business market, and that many of those businesses (like me) probably mix and match Linksys managed switches (like the SRW series) as leaf switches hanging off other higher end Cisco network gear, It seems to me that making CNA ccapable of discovering and managing those Linksys switches would make a lot of sense.
Is there any hope or plan for this in the future?
    -Kyle

I would like to see this as well.  I have nine Linksys SRW2024 units and it is a pain to go into each one seperately.  I am used to the Cisco Network Assistant and it would greatly help if they could talk to LinkSys smart switches.  Please!
