Linksys SRW2008MP VLAN problems

Hello,
We have 7 SRW2008MP's and one SRW2016.
We successfully configured 2 VLANS on all the above switches and found no problems when the Linksys SRW switches' VLANS were linked with two copper or FO cables.
We recently needed to extend both Linksys SRW VLAN's through two independent Copper VLAN's provided by an outside source on L3 Cisco Catalyst switches.
The odd think is that:
When we connect computers directly to both ends of the L3 Cisco Catalyst switches, Traffic passes just fine.
When we connect the Linksys SRW switches that are setup for two VLAN's to one or both of the L3 Cisco Catalyst switches Vlans, no traffic will pass on either L3 Cisco Catalyst switch VLAN.
When we reset the Linksys SRW switches to Factory Default, Traffic passes just fine on a single L3 Cisco Catalyst switch VLAN but we no longer have the VLANs we need.
My Question is:
Do the Linksys SRW switches require special VLAN setting in order to utilized the L3 Cisco Catalyst switches VLAN's ?
FYI...We are not using trucked VLAN's. We are using two independent (Copper Connected) Vlans.
Thanks very much for any suggestions/examples you may have.
Dimitri

Hello and good evening,
I am not sure I understand your term 'two independent vlans'.  Do you mean that these vlans are local to that switch only?
When configuring multiple vlans on the Cisco and small business switches, you need to configure trunking inbetween the switches IF YOU WANT the vlans to span the multiple switches.
Trunking will ensure that non native vlans (by default vlan 1) will have a the correct 802.1q / vlan tag on it; this is called vlan tagging or frame tagging.
The small business switches can be a bit confusing in that you have to make sure the vlans are marked as tagged and not excluded.  On some models, by default these additional vlans are set to excluded, meaning that these vlans cannot traverse a trunk / inter-switch link.
If you want these vlans to span multiple switches, then make sure to check your trunk configs and ensure that all vlans are set to tag - except the default or native vlan.

  • Linksys wifi connection problem

I have a strange issue here. I cannot connect to any OPEN linksys wifi router. If the router useses WPA or WPA2 I can connect without prboblem. I've tried it with my home linksys router and I get the same results. I used to be able to connect to any OPEN linksys wifi without problem. It suddenly stop working and now I am not able to connect to any linksys OPEN wifi anymore. Other branded OPEN wifi connections (no problem)
Is there any "*.plist" file(s) that I can delete and reset the airport back to default ? This happen before the 10.4.8 update. Even after the 10.4.8 update, I still having the same problem.

What is the Model no of the Router ?
Are you able to go online with another wireless computer ?
Try to lower down the security to WPA or WEP then, try to connect the wireless network. If still doesn't work then, upgrade the router's firmware and reconfigure it...

  • SRW224G4P : voice vlan problem

    Hi guys ,
i've a problem with tagged vlan with my SRW224G4P.
    I,ve got following scenario:
    one cisco 2801-CCME/k9 router
one cisco small business SRW224G4P layer 2 managed switch
ten cisco IP phone 7940 and 7931
    ten personal computer
I need to use the embedded switch on the phone to connect computer . I need to
have 2 separated vlan for data and voice traffic.
I configured srw224g4p first 12 ports as follows
    interface ethernet 1/x
switchport allowed vlan add 199 untagged
    switchport native vlan 199
    switchport allowed vlan remove 1
    switchport mode hybrid
switchport allowed vlan add 150 tagged
    spanning-tree cost 100000
    spanning-tree edge-port
where vlan 199 is for data and vlan 150 is for voice .
I set following dhcp pool on 2801
    ip dhcp pool phones
    network 192.168.150.0 255.255.255.0
    default-router 192.168.150.1
    domain-name cmedeis.local
    option 150 ip 192.168.150.1
    ip dhcp pool PC
    network 192.168.199.0 255.255.255.0
    default-router 1982.168.199.1
and configured router on a stick as follows
    interface FastEthernet0/0.150
    description CME interface
    encapsulation dot1Q 150
    ip address 192.168.150.1 255.255.255.0
    interface FastEthernet0/0.199
    encapsulation dot1Q 199
    ip address 192.168.199.1 255.255.255.0
My problem is that phones connected to the switch ports doesn't recognize tagged
traffic and doesn't take ip of the corrected dhcp pool of 150 vlan.
With a cisco 2960 poe switch i configured switchport voice vlan 150 and
switchport access vlan 199 and all is fine but this small business switch don't
handle switchport voice attribute and i can't separate voice and data vlan .
Someone have idea how to avoid this problem?
    Need some help , please.
    Bye

    Good posts as always Christopher!
As Christopher mentions you will need to hard code the voice vlan on all of the phones.  The phones will send the voice traffic via this vlan, and the PCs will send untagged traffic.
I hope you do not mind a tangent and I hope this is not too great of a distraction, but the thought of QoS and security came to my mind as I read this post.
Besides the vlan problems, which I am sure we can get through, there is also a concern.
Any chance you would consider a 3560 for this deployment?  You have quite a few Cisco phones, a Cisco router, and many PCs. The Cisco switch would give you CDP, which would be useful for the voice vlan and power settings, as well as the important automatic QoS and security settings.
On my 3560, I applied a smart port macro.  A smart port macro is a series of best practices / command sets put into a simple to use command.  The one I applied is called cisco-phone.  Here is the output before and after:
    c3560(config)#do sho run int f0/18
    interface FastEthernet0/18
    end
    c3560(config)#int f0/18
    c3560(config-if)#macr app cisco-phone
    c3560(config-if)#sw voice vlan 5
    c3560(config-if)#sw ac vl 1
    c3560(config-if)#do sho run int f0/18
    interface FastEthernet0/18
    switchport mode access
    switchport voice vlan 5
    switchport port-security maximum 2
    switchport port-security
    switchport port-security aging time 2
    switchport port-security violation restrict
    switchport port-security aging type inactivity
    srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
    srr-queue bandwidth shape  10  0  0  0
    mls qos trust device cisco-phone
    mls qos trust cos
    macro description cisco-phone
    auto qos voip cisco-phone
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpduguard enable
    end
The switch automatically globally enabled mls qos and configured the many class-maps, policy-maps, and applied them all accordingly.  As you know, it is important to establish the trust boundaries when doing voice and QoS.  These switches also uses SRR which is a very good way of applying shaping.
Does this help?  I hope so.  Please fire back any thoughts or questions you may have.

  • Cisco/Linksys SLM224G SWITCH: Problem with VLANs

    Hi!
I'm trying to set up VLANs in my racks. I have some knowledge about VLANs, but I still can't set it up in my way.
    My situation:
I have PC which contains two virtual machines, which has to works as a routers between three networks: LAN1, LAN2, WAN. It's a bit complicated, but I'll try to draw it:
                                                     |-------------|
    |----------------------------|                   |           e1|-to-eth1-VM2-----WAN
    |VirtualMachine 1        eth0|---trunk-VLAN1&2---|g1         e2|-to-eth0-VM2-----LAN2
    |eth0=VLAN1 eth1=VLAN2       |                   |           e3|-to-eth0-VM2-----LAN2 etc.
    |                         PC |                   |   SWITCH  e4|
    |VirtualMachine 2            |                   |           e5|-to-eth1-VM1---wire-to-LAN2
    |eth0=VLAN3 eth1=VLAN4   eth1|---trunk-VLAN3&4---|g2         e6|-to-eth0-VM1-----LAN1
    |----------------------------|                   |           e7|-to-eth0-VM1-----LAN1 etc.
                                                     |-------------|
    gX = Gigabit ports
    eX = 100Mbit ports
    VMX = Virtual machine number
wire-to = patch-cord connection between ports on the switch
Schema of routing and logical visibility:
    LAN1---VM1-----VM2---WAN
                  |
    LAN2----------|
Important note is that LAN1 and LAN2 has to be separated (visible only through routers). WAN has to be visible only through VM2 for LAN2 and through by VM1 and VM2 for LAN1. It looks easy, but VLANs which I done on that switch seems to doesn't works.
    I'm doing this like that:
Step1: VLAN Management / Create VLAN...
Creating VLANs from 1, 2, 3, 4 (numbers doesn't meters right now - I now that number 1 is restricted at the switch).
Step2: VLAN Management / Port to VLAN...
Setting up VLAN1 with ports g1, e5 (both tagged or untagged? - I haven't seen difference)
    Setting up VLAN2 with ports g1, e6, e7, etc...
    Setting up VLAN3 with ports g2, e2, e3, etc...
    Setting up VLAN4 with ports g2, e1
Step3: VLAN Management / Port Setting...
Setting up port e1 to PVID4 (frame type=all I suppose, but what with "ingress filtering"?)
Setting up port e2 to PVID3
Setting up port e3 to PVID3
    etc...
Setting up port e5 to PVID1
Setting up port e6 to PVID2
Setting up port e7 to PVID2
    etc...
So, on that configuration and on that switch it doesn't work for me
I know that switch is seeing MACs from VLANs which are done by PC's, because when I get in "Admin / Dynamic Address" I can see MACs on correct ports and with correct VLAN ID. So the problem is to forward VLANs on their ports, next clear frames from IDs and let packets go (and back: take clear packets, add VLAN ID and send to gigabits ports).
Showed configuration is the one of many that I tried :/ but I think this one is the best one.
Or maybe I don't know VLANs as I think and that schema is impossible? Please tell me if I' doing sth wrong.
    Regards
    and waiting for any suggestions,
    Lucas

You need to make sure that your VirtualMachine can send tagged frames if the VMs share physical ethernet ports on the host.
I count 4 different LAN segments but you have only 2 physical ports on your PC (router).
And VM2 requires 3 physical connections according to the list below.
Depending on the virtualisation software you can maybe create the connection PVM1 to VM2 internally inside the PC (logical connection)
Are these the connections you require ?
    VM1 --- LAN1
    VM1 --- VM2
    VM2 --- WAN
    LAN2 --- VM2
Is this correct ? Will your PC, Virtualisation Software/Hypervisor tag frames with VLAn tags ?
If this is true I can help you configure the switch.

  • VLAN problems with SG200-8P and Cisco ASA 5505 (Sec Plus license)

Hi,  I've been pulling my hair out trying to get simple vlan trunking working between these devices.
Basically, no clients on VLAN 99 (guest) will receive DHCP ip addresses when plugged into the SG200.  I have the SG200<>ASA VLAN trunk configured correctly, as I know it, and I've tried numerous variations (set trunk as general tag/untagged, etc., set the ap port to general tag/untag, etc).   Both AP's work properly when connected to the ASA e0/3 port but either will only pull the "inside" VLAN dhcp address when connected to the SG200 switch
VLAN 1 - inside (has separate dhcp scope assigned by ASA)
VLAN 99 - guest (has separate dhcp scope assigned by ASA)
    SG200
    purpose
    ASA 5505 (Sec Plus license)
    purpose
    g2
    Trunk 1UP,99T
Ubiquiti AP (VLAN 1 works, VLAN 99 does not
    g3
    Access port 99T
    vlan 99 does not work
    g8
    Trunk 1UP, 99T
< Trunk between switch and ASA >
    Int e0/2
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,99
     switchport trunk native vlan 1
     switchport mode trunk
    Int e0/3
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,99
     switchport trunk native vlan 1
     switchport mode trunk
    Second ubiquiti AP
Both VLAN 1 and VLAN 99 clients work properly

Frustrated - yes.  Confused - maybe not as much, but I could have put some more effort into the overall picture.
There are two VLANs (1 - native) and (99 - guest).   There is a trunk port between the SG200 and the ASA configured as 1-untagged 99 - tagged.
No clients connected to the SG200 on VLAN 99  are able to access the ASA VLAN 99 using either a static VLAN IP address or DHCP.   The problem occurs whether I configure the SG200 with an access port 99-tagged or Trunk port 1UP, 99T or general port 1U, 99UP or any combination thereof.
Anything connected to the SG200 on the native VLAN works properly.
Anything connected to the ASA VLANs (1 or 99) works properly
I have not yet tried to see what the switch is doing with the VLAN tags but I suspect I have some mismatch with the Linksys/Cisco SG200 way of setting up a VLAN and how traditional Cisco switches work.
I was hoping someone with a working SG200 - Cisco ASA setup could share their port/trunk/VLAN settings or perhaps point me in the right direction.
    SG200 g2 - trunk port (1UP, 99T) -- Access Point
    SG200 g2 - access port (99U)
    SG200 g8 - trunk port (1UP, 99T)  connected to ASA5505  e0/3
ASA5505 e0/3  (switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,99,  switchport trunk native vlan 1,  switchport mode trunk)
    Thanks,

  • SRW2008MP VLAN OID

    Hi
I'm currently searching for the OID of the ports from the SRW2008MP Switch to switch the VLAN over SNMP. We have done that with a Cisco catalyst switch. but the OID of the SRW2008MP is different. Can someone tell me whats the correct OID for setting for example Port 2 to Vlan 4 this I would realy appreciate.
What we are goint to do is convert HDMI signals to the Ethernet (multicast) and use a switch as a Matrix to change the destination of the video. So you can say to the switch route the picture of the DVD-Player to the bathroom tv or/and in the masterbedroom by simply changing the vlan of the switch. We are coming from the A/V market and are not so familiar with finding SNMP OIDS.
    Thank you very much.
    Steffen

    Hi
The "Just Add Power" devices works with this Switch, you can put the devices in seperat VLANs and you can change the VLAN only over the Webinterface. This is okay for a fixed installarion. But if you want to use the switch as a HDMI Matrix Switcher with JAP then this is not possible for a professional application.
The OID to see which VLAN is on which Port are:
    1.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.4.5.1.1.1
    1.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.4.5.1.1.2
    1.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.4.5.1.1.3
    1.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.4.5.1.1.4
1.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.4.5.1.1.x where x is the Port Number
    and so on...
I needed 3 calls to the Cisco Small Business Support.
First guy said hmm im not realy sure.
Second guy said use Whireshark to catch the data between the webinterface and the Switch.
And the third guy Mr. Loidl was very competent, took realy care of my problem and figured out that it is not possible to switch the VLAN over SNMP.
Thank you very much for your personal effort in solving my issue.
    Best Regards

  • Linksys SRW248G4P - VLANs

    Hi
We have 7 of Linksys SRW248G4P switches and we want to use them for PCs and IP Phones. I have set up one of the switch as following:
Default VLAN = VLAN1 for data
Created a new VLAN = VLAN2 for voice
I have 2 seperate subnets and my DHCP is running two seperate scopes for each subnet. DHCP server and IP-PABX is connected to the same switch. Any switch port which will be used for IP-Phone is configured as Trunk+Tagged and member of VLAN2.
Now, all is fine. Phones are getting IP from voice subnet and PCs are getting from data subnet. Phones & PCs both are working.
    My problem is:
I want to extend this VLAN configuration to other 6 switches. All of these switches are already interconnected via Gigabit ports and data communication is working fine.
What should I do exactly to get VLAN config from the first switch to be passed to all other switches?
How should I configure the Trunk between switches? I want the IP-Phone to be connected to any switch and get an IP from the DHCP which is connected to the first switch.
Please explain step by step how to do it exactly.
    Thanks.

To connect all your VLANs across all your switches you have to put the connecting ports into trunk mode and make them member of all VLANs. In your case, you basically use the same configuration as on your standard phone/PC ports: trunk mode with 1U, 2T. This will extend your VLANs across all your switches.

    Hello,
after installing kernel 3.0.x (any) VLANs stopped working on sky2 driver. Althoug I can add VLAN to interface, i can't ping anything. • Mavericks 10.9.1/iMac Mid 2011/VLAN problem

    Hello all,
I have this problem since Mavericks migration.
My iMac network interface is directly connected to a switch using a custom VLAN on the switch side (id 4). DHCP Client is selected and a DHCP server is ready and working to deliver the right adress, but the iMac interface never lights up. VLAN is not configured on the client side (no virtual interface, just using standard Ethernet interface and DHCP setting). This configuration has never been working on Mavericks, but used to work perfectly on ML.
To make my iMac interface work, I have to be connected to the switch using the default VLAN (id 1). However, as my secondary VLAN works using id 4, I should then remap any switch interface to id 1 and then activate a virtual interface using id 4 on any iMac computer... which works, but which is also something I don't want to do, because it would involve too much work on the network side.
Am I facing a bug, or is there a deep change on Mavericks' network pile, which would involve using only a default vlan ?
Many thanks for help or suggestions.

    Hello,
Interesting information : I couldn't reproduce this strange behaviour on a 2012 MacBook Pro. Regarding VLANs, everything works fine and as expected on this plateform. Still buggy for iMac 2011, though...
Many thanks for help or suggestions.

  • Linksys active x problem with web pages

When i install linksys active X for viewing live video with camera WVC54GCA i cannot open other web pages.I am using Windows XP and Internet explorer 8.Is there any solution for this problem???
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Installation of Active X does not prevent any web pages to load, if you have installed Active X then you certainly should be able to view all the web pages inclucding the web pages that contains flash that helps in viewing certain kinds of files, and displaying animation...
    Adjust your browser settings :
Open an IE, click Tools >> Internet Options, then delete all files, cookies, history, forms...Goto "Connections", make sure Never Dial a Connection is checked, click on LAN Settings and make sure all the options are unchecked...Once you are done click on O.k...Close the IE and re-open it...
Did you try to browse the Internet using a different web browser ?

  • LINKSYS WRT54G V5 PROBLEM!! =(

Alright so i recently just bought a Macbook two days ago. Ive been using a linksys router wrt54g v5 router at home for about 2 years now. Ever since I added the Macbook to my wireless network i would be on the internet for about 5-10 minutes and then my WHOLE network would lose internet connection including my (2 PCS that are wired to the router) so can someone please help me with this problem? thank you

Aha, that's the problem: the MacBook was clashing with the router because they were both trying to take the same IP address.
Actually your IP addresses need to end in something in the range 1 to 254, as 0 and 255 have special meanings.
Your other choice is to set the router so that it has a fixed address (like x.x.x.1) but also enable DHCP Server mode. That way, all your other machines can use DHCP Client mode, meaning they get an automatic IP address by asking the router.

  • Linksys and P2P problems?

    Hi all,
I'm aware of the problems (or firmware bug) with Linksys routers and P2P software, where too many connections crash the router. I had a WRT54G v2 sometime ago and had to reboot the router twice weekly, before it died.
Well time has come for me to get a new wi-fi router for my Wii.
Have the problems been fixed yet concerning the mentioned bug with newer firmware, or should I get a router from another manufacturer.
I can't believe that a networking company, as Cisco would allow such a bug to exist for so long.
    Thx

Access the setup page of the router by launching an
Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
    click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
    button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online
If you are getting Ip - 192.168.1.X ...change the LAN Ip to 192.168.2.1 ....Power cycle for 3-4 minutes ...
    Try going online
If still not working ...use Internet Connection type as PPPOE .... Use Username & Password provided by Service Provider ....
    Click save settings....
Look for WAN IP address again under status page ....
    Try going online ......

Your firmware is corrupt with a flashing power light.  Follow one of these two to restore your router.

  • LinkSys E2500 Internet Problems

Hello, I've recently bought an E2500 Wireless Router for my home, but every 1-2 days I've been having an issue.
The internet connection will suddenly drop. Upon checking the "Internet Connection" information, under "Status" I see that the internet IPv4 address field is all 0.0.0.0, when it usually is not. I've tried everything to fix this but the only thing that seems to work is for me to hold down the reset button until the router returns to factory settings then use the Installation CD to set back up my Wifi.
After that it will work for a while then some time later stop yet again. It happens over and over again and I'm not sure what to do. I can confirm it's NOT the Internet Modem that's the problem, if I connect my laptop directly to the modem I get internet. And I've called my ISP but they say it's a problem with the Router itself. I Googled the issue and saw that some cable internet providers (My internet provider is cable based) require you to set the MAC Address Clone to "on" which I did and cloned my laptop's MAC but this too has not worked. Releasing and Renewing the IP address also does not work.
I THINK this happens everytime the DHCP Lease time runs out, but I am unsure. Any help that can be given on this would be appreciated, else I may have to return this router and get another.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6 is recommended.
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask.
    http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=88e63d78588142e6bb68e22d7faf2046_Configuring_the_M...
For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm and http://cognitiveanomalies.com/cisco-nat-how-nat-works/ If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. Ensure modem is working well too. Bad modems are out there as well. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.
    Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.
