Linksys wag325n vs wrt120n

can you guys explain the main differences between these two linksys wag325n vs wrt120n
Im a home user and im about to buy one of them.
Thank you

The WAG is an old gateway (router and modem) that I believe isn't sold anymore or supported and the wrt120n is just a router. I wouldn't buy any of them. I would rather go with the new E-series if I were buying a new router.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • MacBook keep disconnecting from LinkSYS WAG325N WiFi Modem/Router

    Hello,
I've been using my MacBook for a really long time. Over 1.5 years I had no Wi-Fi connection problems until my US Robotics 9106 Modem stopped working. I bought a nice LinkSYS WAG325N Modem. From that moment on, my MacBook started to disconnect from LinkSYS's WiFi constantly. I used every wep/web2 etc. security protocols possible. Nothing worked.
With my US Robotics I used MAC Filtering which worked perfectly. I did the same settings to LinkSYS as you can guess that didn't help at all...
I did firmware update to my modem, it even got worse so I downgrade my modem to previous version.
I read almost every forum out there, no one has came up with a solution.
If anyone has any idea how to fix this problem, please do so, I need urgent help or else I need to take my modem back before 15th day of using it is over. And try to find some modem that my MacBook would like...
    Thank you.

    Hello,
Yes I tried with US Robotics, worked perfectly.
It worked at all caffe's wifi spots (I have no info about their modem/router)
Strange enough, I realised that, if I place my old wifi modem next to this one just connecting the power and turning the modem on, somehow macbook connects fine !? it is too weird, and nearly impossible to explain. but if I place these two modems together and connect with linksys, and the other is just on, no connection no nothing just its wifi is on, MacBook connects... but if I leave the room and go to the living room the problem occurs again.
And since all the other windows laptops connecting from living room has %85 signal power this modem is wonderful. But for a MacBook, it is nothing but pain.
If I get a chance, I'll ask a friend to bring his macbook here which is newer (core2duo) mine is core duo and see what happens.

  • Linksys WAG325N connection drop

I've bought good router (Linksys WAG325N) few days ago and with Tiger all work perfectly. The problem is with Leopard from 10.5 till 10.5.2. The connection to the router every 1 or 2 hour drop, I have to turn Airport off then turn on again to bring connection back again. There is no answer from the router. I cannot ping it, so it is not a DNS problem, and Safari says the it is not connected to internet.
I've tried it with a MacBook Pro 2,5GHz and with an iMac 20 2,0GHz that have the same problem. The same computer (imac) with 10.4.11 has no problem, also the iPhone will continue to navigate. Do you have similar experience?

Can you confirm what wireless channel your linksys box is broadcasting the wifi network on?
On a 54g network you should only be using 1,6 or 11 and some people also report channel 1 also bleeds.
You may also have other networks in your area broadcasting on the same channel as you this would also cause dropouts.
so experiment with channel 6 or 11.

  • Time Capsule slow internet with Linksys router

I has issues with slow internet page loads. I have a Linksys WAG325N router connect to Telstra ADSL 2 with a Time Capsule. I use two wireless network one broadcasted from Linksys and the other wireless network from the Time Capsule. When i'm connected to the time capsule i had slow internet page loads and the Time Machine backups fail.
When connected to the wireless network from the Time Capsule i get 10% to 30% packet loss when i pinged the Linksys router and 0% packet loss when i pinged the Time Capsule.
I then connected to the Linksys router then i has packet loss with i pinged the Time Capsule and 0% loss when i pinged the Linksys.
I used the Airport Utility and changed the "Ethernet WAN Port" from automatic to "10 Mbps/Full Duplex".
This seem to fix the problem. I think there is some issue with the port speed negotiation between the Linksys and Time Capsule.
    Time Capsule 7.4.2
    LinkSys V1.00.13(01)

The same thing is happening to me, exactly. Although my top speed is lower than yours (I'm on FiOS). Unplug it for a second, and you're back to normal. Otherwise, it will slowly and inexorably degrade until you have something worse than dial-up.
This is completely unacceptable, and it's far too typical of the current state of Apple's quality control and support that there is no official acknowledgment of this screamingly obvious and annoying problem, which happens every single time I use my Time Capsule, which is to say every day, and no recommended fix.
Sometimes I feel as if I could really hate this company!

  • Wireless dropouts with WAG325N

    Hi all,
I need some assistance with my newly purchased WAG325N.  I have made multiple attempts last night with support live but I always get the "this hardware is outside my scope" message.
Story: I used to have a Billion 7402GL wireless modem router which used to work fine until the last few months the number of wireless dropouts/link disconnections became very frequent on a daily basis.  The odd thing is however when I play online games the wireless network and ISP connection never dropped out.  I was not successful in recieving any support from Billion so after doing some research and from recommendations, I then purchased a WAG325N device.  Now, the issue has more or less has reversed itself by making my gaming experience online drop out constistantly every 10 minutes without fail, however browsing and normal web usage is flawless.
    Here are some detailed information:
    Device: WAG325N v.2 Anex A
    Model: WAG325N-AU
    Firmware: 11
    Mode: WPA2 Personal
    Clients: 1
Client 1: Onboard Intel Wireless adapter = works fine, never games and WLAN never drops out
    Client 2: My computer with a WMP54G, latest firmware v. 4.1
connection: ADSL2 with roughly 4mbps download throughput and 800kbps upload throughout
Wireless Strength on both clients: Full
As an example, I play a game called TF2 via Steam occassionaly over the internet.  I have gone through portforward's FAQ on how to properly configure the WAG325N according to steam, see here:
    http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WAG325N/Steam_Client.htm
As soon as I play a game online, without fail, after 10 minutes of gameplay my wireless connection to the WAG325N drops out, the only way to reconnect is to do either of the following:
    1. Restart my computer
    2. Turn the WAG325N off, then back on again
During this time, the WAG325N's connection to my provider is still active.  When I connect a laptop via the wired ethernet port I have network and Internet connectivity.  Also, the wireless connection is still active from the WAG325N except for the gaming computer.  I know for a fact that the WMP54G pci card is not responsible for this as for 1, it is a Linksys device and I am sure it cannot be incompatible with a modem/router made by the same company.  Secondly, the WMP54G's behaviour is completely different when using a different branded wireless modem/router.
I have requested for any beta firmware that are currently available for my model of the WAG325N but the url the live support provided me was simply the generic link from the download website.  My model of the WAG325N already had the latest version firmware available when it came from the store.
I have tried to change encryption to WPA Personal but the problem with this is that my laptop, even when it is WPA/WPA2 compatible (tested with other routers) will never connect to the WAG325N. "WPA2 Personal" is the only mode that both the laptop and the WMP54G are happy to connect with.
I am currently at work right now, when I get home, I will upload the log reports from the WAG325N to show information on the logs during during wireless dropouts.
Some assistance would be appreciated.  At this point, I'd hate to have to sell my second modem/router and try another.  I do not have wireless interference and the signal strength on both clients are very strong.  Thank you very much.
    EDIT:
When I first installed the WAG325N, the only settings I changed were the following:
    1. Settings for my service provider to allow me to recieve Internet service
    2. Router username/password, removed the generic admin/admin credentials
    3. Wireless SSID from the default to my preferred network name
    4. Wireless security, applied "WPA2 Personnal"
    5. In applications in gaming section, added port forwarding entries for my torrent application and also games
Apart from the changes above, I have made any other changes to the WAG325N.

  • Problems with LAN RJ45 Ethernet link on Tecra A8-PTA83E

I experienced some problems with the on-board Intel PRO/1000 PL Ethernet adapter. The adapter in most cases works fine: it connects normally in 100 or 1000Mbps - full duplex - speed, depends on wich internetworking devices attached, and the link doesn't present any issues.
But, in some cases, with several Eth devices, the adapter doesn't estabilish the link at all, the green LED on the right (Link?) blinks continuosly with a period of 2 sec. (0.5" on - 1.5" off) and the yellow on the left (Traffic?) remain always off. At the other side of the Cat5e cable, the device (now a router Linksys WAG325N) signs no connection. It's NO cable problem.
Windows (XP Pro, SP2) sometimes reports in the little icon of the LAN adapter driver on the traybar a connection established at various speed (often 100Mbps, but sometimes 1000Mbps!) but very quickly it returns in "cable disconnected" status.
I've tried to upgrade the drivers directly from Intel Support pages because Toshiba's Support doesn't recognize my laptop (!!!) , and because in origin I've made a downgrade to XP (I'm sorry, but I do NOT intend to use the original MS Vista!), but nothing change.
The only way to establish a connection that I found is to manually reduce the speed (10Mbps - full duplex) of the link by the Advanced Settings of the XP driver. In this case all works, but a low speed.
Can anyone help me? Someone has already noticed this problem?
    Thanks!
    Paolo

    Hi
Im not quite sure if its NOT an cable issue.
Did you try to connect both devices using a crossover cable (cross wiring)
There are three different kinds of crosscable:
    - 10BASE-T- und 100BASE-TX-Ethernet
    - 100BASE-T4-Ethernet
    - 1000BASE-T-Ethernet
The difference is usage of crossed wire pairs.
At the other hand the usage of crossover cables is not necessary if you connect a router or switch device.
But in case you would like to connect two notebooks, the crossover cable is required.

  • PAP2T cannot connect to log in server

I have a problem with my PAP2T adapter, I've been using it for about a month. it works fine till I change my router to Linksys WAG325N.
First time that I've set up the PAP2T since router was change it works couple hours due to the registration expire perios: 3600 and when it tried to register again, it shows "cannot connect to login server".
On the next day, I've tried again. Still appears the same, only works for the first time I start up my router. but only this times the call durations keep dropping every 40 secs. I already made a contact to the technical call center but they can only help with my router setting which only forwarding the port range 5060 to the static IP address of the ATA device. still the call durations keep dropping every 40-50 secs.
Please help me solve this problem as soon as possible and also reply to this thread or send me a private message.

  • C4580 wireless connection 2 laptops

    Have 2 Toshiba laptops.
One is Satellite A135-S4527 running Windows Vista Home Premium.
The second is a Satellite C455-S5975 running Windows 7.
Also have a HP Photosmart C4580.
    They are networked.
Originally had a D-Link routed. Everything worked fine until router died.
Bought a Linksys Router model WRT120N.
After much difficulty have both laptops running smoothly.
Problem is with the printer. No problem with the Vista computer. It prints fine.
But cannot get the Windows 7 computer to print.
    Anyone have a suggestion?

    Hi,
On Windows 7 PC, click Start->Control Panel->Devices and Printers, click 'Add Printer', click  Add a Network, Wireless or Bluetooth Printer.  It shows Wireless Printer entry, click Install, click replace driver, if asks. Check test print

  • Modem 6100F Bridge Mode

Hello Everyone, I currently have my modem in bridge Mode. My Modem is a Westell 6100F. It's connected to a Linksys Router Model : WRT120N. Everything is fine, internet connection is good. No problems.
However there is one thing I'm having trouble. I tried connecting my modem directly to the PlayStation 3. The reason is that I want to play with a NAT Type 1. But that's something else. My Main concern is that why am I not able to connect my modem directly to the PS3. I get no internet access. In addition, I tried connecting my modem into another router ( a friend let me borrow his) and still nothing. It seems like my modem is only recognizing my Linksys router for some reason. I wont get any connection to any other devices, router, or even laptops when connecting my modem through the Ethernet cable.
So in conclusion I can only get internet access through my Linksys. Why is that? Why am I not able to connect my modem to a different router? I need you help.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This is due to either two reasons when your modem is in bridge mode:
1: You need to establish a PPPoE connection from the device you're connecting up, which your Linksys router is configured to do. This requires the Verizon Username and Password tied to the Verizon account or in OpenPPPoE areas, a username and password combination (anything, really).
2: If you're in a Western service area of Verizon otherwise known as ex-GTE, it's possible you're running on DHCP for obtaining IP address information from Verizon. For this, it's a case of you can plug a device into the modem/router but you must wait two hours to allow the DHCP lease to expire on Verizon's end before you can connect up another device. Many of these DHCP areas on the DSL network have been sold to Frontier Communications and subsquentially moved to use PPPoE or PPPoA authentication, but there are still a good amount of areas in California, for example that use it.
Ultimately, those two things above are what are stopping you. You'll be wanting to Port forward on your router to get NAT 1 or use UPnP. Also make sure your router has updated firmware; sometimes newer firmware helps to resolve forwarding issues seen with game consoles.

  • How to connect linksys wrt120n with ubee modem+router on twc.

    Hi,
I have a twc connection with a ubee modem+router, it keeps on dropping connection all the time, i googled about it and came to know that if we just use the ubee device as a modem and install our own router along with it, it works fine. I have a linksys wrt120n and i tried installing it but it is not working, the internet is not working. When i try to do it with the CD, it hangs up in between and i tried manually but i am missing something in the settings may be.
    Help anyone?
    Mukul

If you ubee modem router is set to bridge mode then there will be no wifi signal.  If you still have a wifi signal, you need to call your ISP and have them verify it is in bridge mode.

  • Username & Password for linksys WRT120N

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out my WEP code to use to connect to XBOX LIVE. To log on to my internet we just have a WPA-Personal I think, so I have been trying to sign into my router to hopefully obtain my WEP key there, but cannot sign in. I have tried every combination of usernames and passwords such as:
    [none]              admin
    admin             admin
    [none]             [none]
n/a ... and more but nothing works.
    Please help. Thanks
    Ryan

You can actually retrieve the network key using a wireless computer that is already connected to the network.
If you are using a windows 7 computer:
    1. Left click the wireless signal icon on the system tray to open up list of wireless networks.
    2. Right click on the name of your network and click "Properties"
    3. Under the "Security" tab, put a check mark on "Show Characters". It will display the code you need to connect your XBOX.
If you are using windows vista:
    1. Go to Control Panel-->Network and Sharing Center
    2. Click on Manage Wireless Networks
    3. Under "Networks that you can view and modify, Right click on the Network and click on Properties. It is going to show the wireless network key after clicking display characters on the Security Key box.
If you do not have a wireless computer that is connected then reset the router and just reconfigure the wireless settings after.
Take note: If you reset the router it will set everything to factory defaults. You need to reconfigure the router to work again. The following link will show you how to do proper reset for your router.

  • I have to capture wifi from my original router to my newone linksys wrt120n? HOW?

I have a router and it sends to me internet. Its possible capture That wifi and retransmit from wrt120n?

Yes, it is possible to use the WRT120N router to access the internet. The configuration will differ depending on how you are going to connect the WRT120N router. If you will replace your old router with the WRT120N, you only need to remove the old router and configure the WRT120N to work with your ISP.
If your ISP is Cable, use this link: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&docid=0ff4c94586a345d082828...
If your ISP is DSL: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&docid=20ee1457387f40178cd5f...
If you want the WRT120N to extend the wireless network of your old router, it will be possible provided that the WRT120N router is connected hardwired to your main router. • Linksys WRT120N Keeps disconnecting

    Greetings everyone!
Well, my problem is that my Cisco Linksys WRT120N router keeps disconnecting, my family and me are all using the wireless connection. But sometimes the router just disconnect us all, its like its restarting, it only close down for like 5 - 10 secounds and then its back on. Sometimes it does it like every secound hour and sometimes it does it 3 times in 10 min. I usually play games on it and even tho I am the only one using it, it still disconnects.
We got 2 wireless cameras running on a secound router that is merged (Thats what the nerd that setted it up for us told me) with the primary existing router. I am not really that good at computer I just dont want to get disconnected all the time.
Have a really good weekend and take care!

    Hi there,
If this is true on both wired and wireless connection, isolate the concern by connecting your computer to the modem directly. Observe the connection while connected to the modem. If the connection is unstable behind the modem, you need to contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to fix the issue. If the connection is fine on the modem, reset and reconfigure the router. If the problem is present only on the wireless connection, you can reconfigure the wireless settings. Change the channel width to 20 MHz only and select channel 1, 6 or 11 to avoid wireless interference. Also make sure the router is on a higher and open location. By the way, it would help if the router’s firmware is up to date.
