Linksys Wireless-G Router won't connect

I just bought the Linksys Wireless-G version 6 router WRT54G. I have 3 computers. I wanted to connect my G4 to the router, use my new MacPro laptop, use the wireless for my Gateway downstairs, but it won't configure. I can't access the internet at all. Help please. We have spent a lot of time with their support people, but all they can say is that sometimes, Linksys will not work with Mac and gave up. What now?
Thank you in advance.

No matter what the techy blowhards say here, Linksys DOES NOT support useage by Mac users. You're on your own. I know this from personal experience ...
1. I had to go to the Apple Bar to get a Netopia wireless card programmed with my G4 laptop. Why? Because the titanium models' metal apparently interferes with Airport useage. This from the Apple tech, who was a dream in getting me started wirelessly.
2. I purchased a Linksys router, which SAYS "MAC" on the box, which is supposed to mean that it's for Macs AND PCs. Lo and behold, the CompUsa staff knew nothing about this (tired of no one knowing about Macs ... grrrr) and I had to take it home and program it myself. Which I did. And immediately was given .exe files to download from a CD to start. (of course, this is only for PC users!!!) I promptly called Linksys, where I was told, "oh, we don't know how to troubleshoot for Macs." I laughed and told them they shouldn't be selling equipment to Mac users and claiming that it works for Mac users when they couldn't provide the tech support or software for it! I was bumped up to "second tier support" (this is also typical, no one is trained on Mac issues ... anywhere.) where I was given the link to a site that had a driver I could use. Which I did. And it worked. HOWEVER ... I have had several instances where my card just stops working all of a sudden, usually for a minute or two (and yes, it's a PC card, as well ... should work SEAMLESSLY with a Linksys router), only the other day the "outage" lasted about 25 minutes. No, it wasn't my DSL line (which is crappy, given that service up here in the hills of SF stinks, no fiber optic upgrade for us ... in supposedly the "wireless capital" of the world. lol But that's another story -) ... that worked perfectly fine when hardwired into my laptop. It was the router. And once again, I called and was told, "well, you need the firmware update." (which someone else has mentioned here, fine, but ...) Of course, I was never sent an email notifying me of this (even though it took scads of info, including email addy, to register for this thing, as with other hardware/software) ... nonethless, once again I was bumped up to "second tier tech" whereby someone directed me to a linksys addy, to get the firmware. Lo and behold, I download it, and it's an .exe file. lol Bozos, all of 'em.
Linksys is NOT made for Macs. I can get mine to work, but it's really not worth the hassle. I should have found a way to use AirPort. Now, I'm going to make my daughter's desktop G4 wireless (my old 'puter) and I'm sure it'll be another huge hassle to do that with the same card I have in my laptop.
Bottom line is ... even though Apple stuff is more pricey, stick to Airport technology when you can. Unless you're prepared to pull your hair out getting PC-oriented stuff to work. And DON'T believe the hype. Most likely, if a PC-oriented piece of hardware says it works on a Mac, it's for the most part, B.S.

  • Linksys Wireless N Router w/ Belkin Wireless G Adapter Connection?

I recently bought a Linksys wireless n router to better serve my two new laptops with wireless n cards. They are now lightning fast and super reliable. However, my desktop, which has a Belkin wireless g card connects about a third as fast and last only about 5-10 minutes before needing to be reconnected, which can cometimes take a while itself. I changed the channel to 11 which helped a little and am running the router on 20 MHz only.
My previous router was a Belkin wireless G.
I'm looking for answers/explanations and possible solutions to speeding up my desktop's speed and increasing its reliability w/o jeopardizing my laptops' supreme performance.
    Thanks for your help,

  • Linksys Wireless-B Router & Access Point question

Ok, I have a Linksys wireless B router (cant remember the model name off of the top of my head) and it connected to a desktop that I have.  I just purchased a Buffalo Wireless-G MIMO router which has the ability to act as an access point.  I was wondering if I set the Wireless-B router up to my desktop where my modem is, and then turn on the Access Point feature with my Buffalo router, would the two brands work together or no?  Also, if they did work and the Buffalo router acted as an access point would I be able to connect my PS3 via one of the ethernet port on the back of the Buffalo access point?  Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
I just purchased this Buffalo router after returning the Linksys Wireless-G with SpeedBooster and having numerous problems with my Verizon DSL (Westell 6100 modem).

Yes you can.  Here is a LINK to use as a reference.  The only thing you will run into is the routers IP's may be different so make sure they are in the same range.  Example router 1:192.168.1.1  and router 2:192.168.1.2 but it may vary depending on what you want your private IP range to be.
The router you want to set as a AP make sure it has the latest firmware and has the SSID/security all set up.  Make sure the IP for the router is set then disable the DHCP.  Then connect router 1 via numbered port to the number 1 port of the second router.

My imac won't startup past the spinning gear and my apple keyboard is wireless but it won't connect, how do I fix the problem so I can get into safe mode?
Can anybody help me on this issue? I have already tried to replace the batteries but since the computer won't get past the spinning wheel of death then the keyboard won't connect.

Please follow Apple's advice in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570. If you need to get your hands on a wired USB keyboard, even a PC one will work fine.
Do not follow the previous poster's advice, that option is a "last chance" option. OS X is stable and in most cases a reinstall is never needed. Follow the directions in Apple's letter.

    Hey Apple Health,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! There's an article that helps to resolve issues with wireless keyboards. I'd take a look at it, go through the troubleshooting steps, and see if that resolves the issue for you:

  • Router Won't Connect to modem so i can't get internet

All right -_- i have tried lots of stuff with this so i am getting irritated sorry. Here is my info I have a Linksys Wireless Router with SpeedBoost Firmware Version 7.2 (latest) WRT54GS. I am trying to use it with a Sprint 645 Series Modem. My IP while connected to the router and the router connected to the Modem is 192.168.1.100 which my ISP said was ok for it to work. While it is just connected to my modem it is that same thing except replace the 100 with 1. My ISP uses a security measure where The DHCP Thing is 192.168.1.1 and so is the DNS server, and the Default Gateway and im not sure if that has anything to do with it. I have used ping in the Command Prompt to make sure i am connected to the router when its plugged up and it is. This is a new router. I have perfectly fine internet with just Modem. I have tried resetting the Router and that didn't work -_-. I dont think it matters anymore because i have tried fixing it the way lots of people have told me to and it didnt work but i will tell u anyway. When i set up the router the first time i hooked everything up and turned it all on at first. Then i saw that it said Run CD first before connecting cables... those weren't in the instructions but wtv... anyway resetting it should have fixed it or so i was told by other people on this forum. I am using a Laptop with Windows Vista, and i don't have access to a desktop in case i need one XD. I can connect to the Router fine because i can get to the setup page.. and i can connect wirelessly.. The ONLY problem appears to be that the Router doesn't connect to the Modem... for wtv reason -_- I think its because of the whole security measure about how the DHCP and DSN and Gateway are all 192.168.1.1, but that is just me. I am sorry this is so long but I really want this fixed -_- i have had this Router for a month and its getting really annoying so please help . My ISP is Embarq. I ran the setup CD and I got all the way through to the last step (waiting for router) after connecting the power supply to the wall for the router. It just sits there forever and says afterwards "Error:322 Can't find router or something like that. It gives 3 steps to try to fix it. It says to make sure the Router is plugged in (it is) , it also says to make sure u didn't actually plug in your old router, (i dont have one -_-) and then retry the setup. and by setup i mean where u plug all the cords in the right way. *sigh*
If u need anything else please ask.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your second post said 'ignore this" so I guess everyone thought you had got it fixed....
When you connect through your router you have two instances of DHCP going on...one is your DSL modem giving your router an IP address on it's WAN interface. The other is the router giving your computer an IP address via the router's DHCP server. The IP the modem gives your router is in the 192.168.1.0 network. Unfortunately, by default, the LAN IP address reange on Linksys routers is also in that range. To get this to work, you need to set your LAN ip on the router to 192.168.2.1, so that the LAN and WAN interfaces of the router are in different networks.
To do that, unplug the router from the DSL modem, power it and your computer down, then connect the computer to the router using an ethernet cable. Power up the router, and the computer, then browse to 192.168.1.1. Change the LAN IP on the router setup to 192.168.2.1, save the configuration, then reboot the computer. Once the computer comes back up, browse to 192.168.2.1...you should be able to get to the router setup GUI.
Power down the router, and the DSL modem, connect the router to the modem via the Internet port using an ethernet cable, then power up the modem, then the router....you should be good to go...

  • Linksys Wireless-G router power light not glowing

    Hi,
I bought my Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 Ghz, 54 Mbps Broadband router (Model: WRT54GL) in US. I'm using the same in India for the past couple of months (connected thru 240 to 120v voltage converter). It was working fine until last week. All of the sudden I see the Linksys router power light not glowing at all. Initially I suspected the problem to be with voltage converter, later I figured out that the voltage converter and power adapter to router are working fine. So its the issue with wireless router. Is this a known issue with this model ?. If so how do I fix this ?. Is there a Linksys wireless router service center in Bangalore ?.
Any help related to this issue would be great.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Siva K.

Thanks for your immediate response on this issue.
Well, there is no power to the router at all. So as you mentioned I believe the router is dead. Is there anything we can do now ?.
Note: This is a pretty new router. I haven't used it much.
    Regards,
    Siva K.

  • Netgear wireless router won't connect to my HP Pavilion via ethernet cable

I had bought the Netgear LT wireless router for my home and I cannot get my Pavilion PC to connect via the ethernet cable. All of our tablets will connect wirelessly as well as my laptop. The laptop will also connect using the ethernet cable. I had used a wireless broadband card on my PC for that last several years without a problem, now I can't seem to connect to the internet with this new tool. When I do try to connect, a pop-up screen appears with suggestions of using the connections from the past (ie. dial-up, broadband, mobil), but does not show an option for this new router.
Someone had suggest that I may need to get an updated driver for the ehternet card, and if so, how to I get said updated driver to instal over to my PC without being connected to the internet? I've tried to reconfigure and add a "new network" connection without any luck and have uninstalled the old programs pertaining to the old connection devices.
As of now, I'm having to download my business materials on my laptop, then transfer the files to the PC via thumb drives. I'm sure I'm just overlooking something rather simple, as it is usually the case for most, I imagine. Can anyone give me another alternative to fix this issue? I plan on leaving the PC connected to the router via ethernet, while using the wireless WiFi for the other devices.
    Thank you in advance!!

  • Wireless IP Camera Won't Connect To Westell 9100EM Router

I'm trying to connection an IP camera, on Fios, to my Verizon Westell 9100EM router.
Connecting the camera via a wired connection works fine.  Port forwarding is automatically configured when turning the camera on, at TCP ANY 554, and the IP camera is viewable on the web.  No worries.
However, when unplugging the cord, the router never recogizes the camera.  Not after resetting, powering off/on, etc.  Both the WEP and SSID are set correctly on the camera.  All other wireless devices (laptops, Xbox 360, iPhone, etc.) work fine on the router.
Naturally, the camera people blame Verizon and Verizon blames the camera people.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

What are the details on the camera (Make, model, etc) ?

  • Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router won't save settings

Hi everyone. I got a stupid little case that's really pissing me off, I'm just trying to port foward with this router, and after I'm done entering all my settings, I click save settings, it tells me settings are succesful.
But the it goes back to the port forwarding page and all the stuff is at default again as if I did'nt make any changes. What the hell is this?
please can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong , I'm sure it's just a little something I don't know about that's making it not save any changes to port fowarding.

Use a wired computer, open the command prompt ping your router just to make sure that the router is responding. If the same happens do a hard reset on the router for 10 seconds.

  • Iphone connects to router, won't connect to internet

Searching back through the forums, there seem to be some kinda similar problems, and individually anecdotal solutions to them, but I wanted to see if anyone is experiencing something similar to my problem and/or has a definitive solution.
I can connect to my wifi router (d-link dir-625) no problem. iphone shows a strong connection and I can even access the router's configuration and settings site in safari.
I cannot, however, access anything that requires an internet connection (web pages, weather, etc.) when connected to the router. Safari just hangs while trying to access any web page and eventually gives an "sfari could not open the page because the server stopped responding" message.
This has happened with 2.0 and 2.0.1 and 2.0.2. Didn't have this problem with the 1.whatevers. I've repeatedly tried to renew the lease, forget the network, and tried multiple DNS options that people have mentioned. In fact, the closest answer anyone seems to have had was setting the DNS the same as the router's http address. My phone connects to the router with the dns already identical to the http address (192.168.0.1). And like I said, I can access the router's settings page, change whatever I want on the router with my iphone. But can't ever seem to get the internet to work.
Any network gurus have any suggestions?

I have both an iPhone 3G and an iPod Touch. Both have had this problem with 2.0.0, 2.0.1, and 2.0.2. I didn't have the 3G prior to 2.0, but I had the iPod Touch, and the touch connected to my wifi setup fine then.
I experience the problem regardless of whether my router is set to WPA, WEP, or no security. (Router is a Linksys WRT54G.)
Here's a very specific reproduction case. I go to settings, Wi-Fi, and choose my network. After entering the password successfully, I click the blue arrow and see that DHCP has correctly found an IP address for the device. I can even ping to the device from my other computers on the network. Interestingly, the ping times are erratic and tend to be long--up to half a second but as low as 80ms (as opposed to ~1 or 2ms pinging the router itself from a computer). Now I go to Safari on the device and visit any URL--say www.apple.com. I see the blue wifi waves on the status bar. The spinner is spinning. The address bar shows about 5% blue as if the page was beginning to load. But then for about 1 minute the bar doesn't move, and finally I get an error: "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding." All applications that use the net behave the same way. I am able to access my router's setup page directly. Interestingly, if I try to access an external site numerically--like http://17.149.160.10 for Apple, the blue bar creeps to about the 10% mark before freezing and progressing no farther.
There's definitely something funny going on with the new software's wireless access. It may have to do with the router, but it doesn't sound specific to the router.

  • Router won't connect comps to the net, can't acess router through comps either!!

Hey, umm... I was playin a game for a bit, and suddenly I got booted off the net. I thought it was the game just spiting me (WoW does that sometimes. It hates everyone), but it turned out to be the internet.
I called comcast, confirmed that my internet was ok, and decided to call linksys.
I went to the tech support via phone, dialed the number, and the number is telling me it can't connect the call.
    So, I came here.
Now, normally I can always get into the router via my comp to see what the deal is with it. This time though, I can't even acess it!
It tells me it couldn't connect every time I try to get into it, from all the computers.
I figured it could just be a bum wire messin with me. So I went into the closet and pulled out a new one that I had just got. That one didn't work either.
Then I took one of the wires I knew worked (because it connected the computer to the modem and got online fine), and plugged it in. It didn't work either.
    So frusterating...
Anyways, I upgraded the routers firmware the other day after hearing that it would give me more port fowarding slots (It DESPERATLY needs more), and all was well up until now.
It's been about 5 days since I did that, so I don't know what woulda caused this to happen all of a sudden.
Espically not being able to get to the router through a computer. That's just weird...
Well, if anyone knows anything, lemme know.
Also, let me know if the phone support comes back up some time soon.

On a side note, im not using the wireless function, and I have it turned off in the settings.

  • Router won't connect to internet, computer shows 'limited or no connectivity' message

Hi everyone, I could use some help. I have a Linksys WRT150N router that I bought a few years ago. It was working fine till about two days ago. I can't connect to the internet at all through the computer it's connected to or wirelessly on my laptop. The message 'limited or no connectivity' shows up on both computers. I tried resetting and unplugging the router several times, and I can't even access the router's settings using the IP address cause I need internet to do that. I know it's not my modem because when I connect it directly to the computer without the router, I can access the internet. So do I need a new router or is there something else I can do? Could my internet service provider have done something recenly so that it doesn't work with my router anymore? Please help, I seriously don't want to spend money on another router.

Who is your Internet Service Provider ?
