Linksys Wireless WRT610 media server issue, help appreciated.

Since I bought this router, the media server had been working okay.
suddenly one morning it stopped working and giving this message.
Trial expired, please visit http://twonkyvision.com
I called Linksys customer support, (which is not 'engineering dept' by the way, someone in Phillipins)
they had no clue what a UPnP media server is, and what twonky is ?
Linksys routers come preinstalled with twonkyvision media server software, but this one stopped working.
Any help ?

I've been havin the same troubles but i think i might have finally gotten it to work. TwonkyMedia is preinstalled on Linksys WRT610N and the "new" tab they created called "storage" interprets TwonkyMedia's actual media server pages into the Linksys configuration style.
Type in your browser http://your-router-iport/
Just like this http://192.168.0.1:9000/
It takes you to the actual TwonkyMedia setup pages in which Linksys hides from you. Click on the "Clients/Security" link in the left navigation area. I noticed that although it was set to allow new clients automatically, the client table was actually missing my Xbox 360 and PS3 as well as their static ip's.
Once i added them it worked again (cross my fingers). I can't wait until DD-WRT comes out with new custom firmware for this Linksys router. Its been good to me for awhile now but i hope this isn't a start of things going wrong with the router.

  • Update: E4200 Media Server Issues

    Dear All,
Late last week engineering released beta firmware for the E4200 that should resolve the media server issues many have experienced.  This firmware release will go through a cycle of testing internally as well as with members of the community that we have been working with. Once the firmware has gone through the required testing and approvals it will be released publicly.  There is no ETA at the moment but we will update the community once a release window has been identified.

    Dear All,
Here is an update on the media server issue.
"The media server issue is definitely a software issue as confirmed by the engineers. A fix has been built, tested and is close to release. The firmware is currently going through the Engineering release process. This process is time consuming as this firmware is open-source and requires that Cisco follows strict guidelines to ensure that they are in compliance with the GNU General Public License. Estimated release date is around 3rd or 4th week of September if there are no other issues."
As promised, we will keep track of this issue until a fix has been released. Again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Does anyone have an issue when you enable the Media Server feature on this router? My router seems to hang after a while.

Check if the firmware on the router is the latest one.

  • Linking Cisco Linksys E3000 uPnP media server to non uPnP Home Theater system

    Hi,
I have a Cisco Linksys E3000 Wireless Router. My home theater system does not have uPnP capabilities. That is it doesn't have the uPnP client like a PS3 or a Wii.
Is there a uPnP client that I can buy for the specific purpose of connecting to my home theater system via ethernet.
The resulting connection graph will be as follows: NAS (via USB) to E3000, E3000 to uPnP client (using ethernet), uPnP client to Home Theater system using audio in or HDMI.
    Thanks for your help!

If your Home Theater system has Ethernet port then I think you can try wireless bridge ( WET610N ) to make it wireless.

  • Linksys Wireless to Powerbook internet issues!

Heres the setup: Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless B router with a Windows XP desktop as the only pc hooked up to it. I use my powerbook wirelessly. Every time the Windows PC is rebooted, the wireless internet connection to my PB is gone... Until I restart the router. But it's pretty annoying to have to go down two flights of stairs just so I can use the internet on my powerbook upstairs.
    What can I do?

Ensure that your internet connection is connected to the Linksys' WAN port and the PC connected to a LAN port.

  • EA6500 DLNA media server MP3 not shown

    Hi!
I have recently bought Linksys EA6500 router and attached a USB drive with some media (4000+ MP3 files, 7000+ photos, and 1000+videos). Everything works smoothly, even from Nexus 4 on wireless, but none of the MP3 files are showing up! Are there any known limitations in Twonky server (which this device apparently uses) in terms of naming files, subdirectory structure, anything? I tried rescanning the drive, although didn't try rebuilding database...
    Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
Yes. There's a known limitation with Twonky Media Server that's built-in with your router: "maxfile-8000" - the license with Twonky limits the # of files to be scanned to 8000. This issue had been raised before and some acceptable reason is the "amount of cpu and ram need to deal with the db in memory" - of course, these routers have way much lower hardware specs, even compared to a smartphone running on Android 2.3.6 OS.
Here's the thread that was raised before:

  • EA 6500 Media Server Drops Out

Media server works great until I get "Connection Lost" It requires a restart of the AE6500. I have tried stopping the media server and restarting then rescaning but this usually does not help. The FTP function does ot have this issue while streaming music. It only happens streaming Movies.  I thought this was just a media server issue since it happens on the Roku (I have two)  using its media app. But as it turns out, it also happens using plex on both the Samsung and Rokus (The PLEX media server is on my computer). Usually it only happens once and is fine after the router restart. USUALLY. It happened 4 times last night.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

You might reload the FW and set up from scratch and see if you can stablize it.
To safely update FW, I recommend doing the following:
    1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
    2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.
    3. Reload or Update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your local wired LAN PC.
    4. Factory reset the router and then set up from scratch first and test with out loading the saved config from file. Check to see if any problems are fixed before loading the saved config from file. Sometimes you need to set up from scratch with out loading the saved config file. Just safer that way.
Are you streaming via wired or wireless when this happens?

  • How to create and back up a media server?

I have a ton of photos and videos that I would like to share among several Mac's and PC's in my house over a wireless network. I would like to create a wireless shared media server which will run day and night without having to keep any computers on. At the same time, I would like to back up this media store on a regular basis. I would also like to sync some of the content to my Apple TV.
The solution I've come up with (at least theoretically) is to connect an external 500 GB drive to an Airport Extreme Base Station and use it as an Airport disk. I will dump all of my media files onto it. The problem is, how do I back this up?
Well, I have pre-purchased the 1 TB Time Capsule. What I'm hoping is possible, is for me to be able to have my MacBook Pro access my Airport disk, and back it up through Time Machine to my Time Capsule, wirelessly. Will this be possible?
I have found hundreds of messages about people trying to use Time Machine to back up data TO an Airport disk, but not FROM an Airport disk - so I want to know if this is possible?
Next, I need to sync my media Airport disk to my Apple TV. I assume I can just use my MacBook Pro to mount the Airport disk and use it as the source for syncing to my Apple TV?
Now, you may ask why I don't just get the Time Capsule and place all my media files onto it, in addition to using it for backup. Well, if the drive crashes, I will not only lose my backups, I will also lose all my original media files. Unless it is possible to back up the Time Capsule itself to an external drive for extra safety?
Sorry if this is confusing, but my basic questions are:
    1. Is it possible to back up an Airport disk using Time Machine?
    2. Is it possible to back up a Time Capsule to an external drive?
    3. Is it possible to sync a shared drive (Airport disk or Time Capsule) to an Apple TV?
    4. Can I run two wireless base stations (an Airport Extreme and Time Capsule) in my house?
    Thanks in advance.

It is possible to create a media server, backup its contents, etc. but probably not the ways you are considering. There's hurdles to setting up anything of the nature you're considering.
First my responses to your questions followed by how I did it.
    1. Is it possible to back up an Airport disk using Time Machine? No
    2. Is it possible to back up a Time Capsule to an external drive? If I understand this question, you are asking if there is a backup for the backup. I doubt it based on #1.
    3. Is it possible to sync a shared drive (Airport disk or Time Capsule) to an Apple TV? Only if the airdisk is mounted on the Mac to which you use to sync the Apple TV.
    4. Can I run two wireless base stations (an Airport Extreme and Time Capsule) in my house? Yes, but your bandwidth will be reduced if both are operating at the same time, particularly if one is configured as a bridge. With some special configuring of both devices you may be able to not use the wireless of one unit if it is connected via the ethernet ports. I have not tried this.
I have over 500 GB of video, 16 GB of audio, and about 4000 photos. I've solved this media center desire as follows:
    1. MacMini with 2 external hard drives, 1 contains the media and the other is the backup drive used by TM.
    2. Front Row is used on the MacMini and the Mini is attached to a large screen TV
    3. Other Macs in the house mount the media and backup drives from the Mini
    4. All of the Mac's iTunes are configured so they only store references to the files on the mounted media drive. Each time files are added to the media drive I simply drag the files from the media drive to the iTunes Library. This eliminates the 'sharing' of the iTunes library and allows each person to create their own Playlists. iPhoto is configured similarly to iTunes and new files are dragged to its Library.
    5. All the Macs are set to use TM on the backup drive attached to the Mini. The Mini's attached media drive is backed up via TM to the backup drive (again, both are attached to the mini).
I've tried the airport disk path previously and I found that it was necessary to occasionally remove the external disk and connect to a Mac to repair it in some fashion. I have not tried the new airdisk product itself -- just the original airport and an attached ext drive.
BTW, 2 of 4 of my Macs are laptops and none of them have any problem backing up to the Mini's backup drive via TM. I do, however, keep my video editing directories out of the laptop's TM backups; otherwise backups would take many hours as opposed to the typical 1-2 minutes.
Sorry I have not answered this in the way perhaps that you hoped but I have found my configuration to be very stable. The use of an airdisk as you described is the ultimate but I don't think all the tools are there to go all the way.
If you're interested in more detail, please ask.

  • E4200 - Media server capability

If your intention is to use the media server capabilities of this device look elsewhere. It hasn't worked since day one months ago when I was an early adopter, and Cisco has released two firmware updates to try and resolve the media server issues both of which have been a bust and required then to withdraw the update and roll their own advertised firmware back. Don't take my word for it, read it on their forums here: [...]

Hi. Cisco recently acknowledged the firmware flaw and is currently doing some beta tests to resolve the media server issue.

  • Issues with Deskjet 5650 and Linksys wireless print server.

I have a iMac DP 1.8, a iMac G3 700 mhz running Tiger and a Toshiba laptop running XP and I am on a wireless network. I use a Linksys WRT54G router for the wireless and I am using a Linksys WPS54G wireless printserver to connect an HP Deskjet 5650 to the network. This was all working fine for the past 2 months until Monday evening when the Mac's lost connection to the printer. However the Toshiba can print to it just fine.
I cannot for the life of me figure out what happened. The iMac DP recently had a security update for intel installed this past Monday, but no updates have been installed on the G3 iMac. I have contacted Apple, HP and Linksys and they have been no help at all. Apple says it's a Linksys issue, Linksys says it's Apple issue and HP is just cluless. I would appreciate any assistance offered.
    Thanks

Paul, I am amazed you were ever able to print via the Linksys wireless server on your mac. I have the identical router and print server, and only the Windows PC's on my wireless network have been able to share the printer on that wireless server. I've been unable to find a driver for my iMac, and could never get the iMac to find the server. Finally gave up and bought an HP 2600n color laser and connected it directly to the iMac via USB. You're right about lack of help from Linksys. There is an Apple folder under "unsupported" on the print server installation CD, but there's nothing helpful in there.

  • Linksys WRT610 Firmware 2.00.00 B05 media server

Has anyone been able to get the twonky media server to work? i cannot seem to get it to work no matter what i do. ive tried to set it up through connecting to it on 192.168.1.1 i enabled the upnp server and set the folder and it just never shows up anywhere.
i can connect to the hdd as a mapped drive no problem but the media server portion just will not work. i tried to connect directly to the twonky server which in old firmware was 192.168.1.1:9000 and it has no luck connecting. I tried to telnet and ssh into it via another google suggestion and i couldnt do that either.
how the hell do i get the media server setup and working?

As you have already resetted your router and re-configured all the settings on it again and still its not working, then i think you should try using the twonky media server and check using twonky media server are you able to access the media server on your XBOX or on your PS3.
As the twonky media server is more stable and many users have used it and it works perfectly fine.
