  • Problems w/ WRT 300N

Hello, I have been experiencing decreased connection strength through my WPC300N wireless notebook adapter using a WRT 300N wireless router. At boot-up, the signal strength will be low, with 100+Mbps as the speed. After a few minutes it drops to 54 Mbps, then 13 or 11 Mbps, then finally 2 and 1 Mbps, signal strength very low. The internet is as slow as molasses at this point. I am using windows XP with all service packs. I live in a two story house, with the router on the second floor. However, our old Wireless G router (can't remember the model, it didn't have any speed or range boost though) would get to the laptop where its at now. I thought a WRT300N would be better, but I am having this problem now. My laptop with a Wireless G card holds up at 54 Mpbs all the time. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks a bunch in advance.

No, the changes did not make a difference. Sorry for the long delay in response.  The signal is still dropping off very badly.  I am still having no problems connecting the WRT 300N off my really old laptop that is using an old Linksys Wireless G card. In fact, the other day I was downloading two programs at 100Kbps EACH!
BUT, the laptop using the Wireless N card is still slowing to a snails pace within 10 minutes of connecting to the Router.  I dont know what else to do, I am thinking of trying different locations for the router to see if I can get a more stable connection.  The 14 day return period has long since passed, so I have to find a way to make this work.  But as of now, I am still having problems.

  • Problem with Wireless settings in WRT 300N (V2)

    Greetings,
I've just managed to reset the WRT 300N to default settings and have setup the internet conncection etc and home network ... BUT no matter how I've fiddled with the wireless settings I cannot get any of the laptops or mobile phones to connect wirelessly to the network.
The Windows software on the laptops 'finds' the router OK but for some reason the router seems unwilling to supply an IP address.
I've checked ALL of the settings that I can think of, and all are correct ... well, all are exactly the same as my old router which worked perfectly.
It's something that I think muxt be to do with the security settings.
Can anyone offer any suggestions ??
    THanks

    Try the following steps:
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page.
    # Then Click on wireless Tab select, Wireless Network mode “Mixed”, Radio Band to 20 MHz only and Standard Channel to 1, 3, 6, 9, and 11. Click Save Settings.
#Adjust the following advanced wireless settings:
~~ Lower the beacon interval from 100 to 75
~~ Lower the fragmentation threshold from 2346 to 2306
~~ Lower the RTS threshold from 2347 to 2307
    Then check the status..

  • WRT 300N - WRT 600N

After all I received 4 linksys wireless router n series.
    2 WRT 300n
    2 WRT 600n
I decide to test those routers in LAB and then migrate our buisiness medium platform from G to N.
    Lets See what happened.
1- In open office env with 200 square meter I have weak signal at corner that reduce my bandwidth to 54 Mb/s(from 270 Mb/s).I test coverage area against WRT 54g and I get Incredible result.there is no more coverage except that you forget bandwidth because it Reduce it to 11 Mb/s.
2- I used Solarwinds Orion to get Throughput from this router and again I find a new incredible thing my dashboard show 150 Mb/s at 2 meters distance between my computer and router.
3- I decide to use site survey to plot a map of coverage area incredibly in close building area i see a circle with 10 meter in blue witch means I can use 270 Mb/s at this range only.
4- After All I tried to bridge two routers together I impact with a phenomena these routers series cant bridge together and there is no sign of option access point or bridge in web base console. But I read in Linksys catalog that this models are enhanced Access Points.
    5- After all problems with signaling,bandwidth,Bridging ...
I can only say that linksys produce a product with many weakness in hardware and software.

There is always a reality check between what marketing materials claim (a perfect test in their lab) and a real-world test. Having been on the vendor side for many years, I have seen this situation many of times.
Hopefully the speeds will be good enough for your deployment situation. What caught my eye was your mention of Solarwinds. I have been a long time user of Orion and the Engineering Toolset. Recently I came across PacketTrap Networks (www.packettrap.com) for scanning and diagnostic tools. They also have a monitoring dashboard that I have been using for my critical devices. It was the easiest dashboard to set up that I have experienced. To top it off, they have a free version - gotta love that price. www.packettrap.com/download. Good luck, I feel your pain.

  • Error when trying to sign into Linksys WRT 120N router management page, indicates browser authentication not capable - a HTTP401 error.

In trying to get into the Linksys WRT-120N router's management utility browser, I was unable to sign in. After resetting the router multiple times and exhausted all the variants of the username/password combination that I can find and think of, I was still unable to sign in to the utility browser. Just for the sake of trying something different, I opened IE 8 browser and was able to sign in just fine. This tells me that FF has a problem with authentication, somewhere along the request information aren't being sent correctly to allow signing in to the utility page of the router.

hi , here is a step by step for for you need to do..
a:- Do not use the setup disc....remove it and keep is somewhere safe.
b:- Disconnect the USB cable from the modem and PC and keep it somewhere safe as well
c:-turn off the modem and PC....
d:- with the power plugged in....reset the linksys router for 1 minute...once done , unplug the power.
e:- connect the modem to the "internet" port of the router and connect the PC to one of the other ports..
f:- turn on the modem only.....wait for 1 minute for the modem to initialize
g:- turn on the router and PC.
h:- on the PC...hit "start">>"run">>cmd and enter ....now the black window should stay up......type ipconfig and enter.....the IP u get should be 192.1638.1.100....if so...
i:- bring up your web browser and key in http://192.168.1.1 and hit go.....type the password as "admin" when prompted...
j:- under the setup page....look for an find MAC address clone.....enable and "clone"......save settings and check if you are going online.

  • I have a Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G wireless router and 2 Airport Extremes (the small ones that plug directly into the wall). Is it possible to extend the network from the router using these two AEs? I have a DVD player and Ext HD plugged into the router too..

I have a Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G wireless router and 2 Airport Extremes (the small ones that plug directly into the wall). Is it possible to extend the network from the router using these two AEs? I have a DVD player and Ext HD plugged into the router too. Any ideas? I'm guessing the only way is to do what I've seen in these community pages which states that it can be done but it will drop the bandwidth by 50%. Thoughts?? Thanks!

The Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G was one of the very few routers said to be compatible with Apple's implementation of WDS (Wireless Distribution System) settings.
The info that I have on file indicates that only the WRT-54G versions 4 and under were compatible, so that would be one bridge to cross.
Even if you find that your Cisco/Linksys might be the right version, Apple never published instructions on how to configure the Express devices with other manufactures, so users were left to their own devices to try to figure out how to get things working. Apple's instructions to connect to other Apple devices are in the link below:
    WDS network
If you were hoping to use 2 Express devices in this type of configuration...even if it works...the bandwidth penalties will be extremely severe.
The first Express drops the bandwidth (and speed) on the entire network in half and the second halves everything again. So, the result, in effect would be a "g" wireless network running at 25% speed. Few users would consider installing this type of network.
At this point, it becomes one of those things where the fact that you might be able to do something does not mean that there would be much value in doing so. But, it is your decision to decide if you want to try to proceed.

  • Westell 7500 modem bridged to Linksys WRT-54g connectivity issue

    Hello,
I have been trying to bridge my Westell VersaLink 7500 to my Linksys WRT-54g V8.0 flashed with dd-wrt.

  • Linksys wifi connection problem

I have a strange issue here. I cannot connect to any OPEN linksys wifi router. If the router useses WPA or WPA2 I can connect without prboblem. I've tried it with my home linksys router and I get the same results. I used to be able to connect to any OPEN linksys wifi without problem. It suddenly stop working and now I am not able to connect to any linksys OPEN wifi anymore. Other branded OPEN wifi connections (no problem)
Is there any "*.plist" file(s) that I can delete and reset the airport back to default ? This happen before the 10.4.8 update. Even after the 10.4.8 update, I still having the same problem.

What is the Model no of the Router ?
Are you able to go online with another wireless computer ?
Try to lower down the security to WPA or WEP then, try to connect the wireless network. If still doesn't work then, upgrade the router's firmware and reconfigure it...

  • Wrt 300n wireless router

How can I connect an external antenna to my wrt 300N?

They should just unscrew ... but the middle on (the square one) is the external and the other 2 are the detachable. I wouldn't mess with that though.

  • WRT 300N signal problems.

Hi i have just installed a WRT300N wireless router into my house.
My Laptop is working fine, 100% signal from the router and all is well.
However, the PC in the garage (literally 10 meters away) is showing little to no signal.
I have used the WMP300N PCI router card inside the PC, in an attempt to make the signal better.
The program that came with the PCI card is showing 70-90% signal strength, but still the internet is choppy to say the least.
    Disconnecting and reconnection at random.
Any idea where my problem can be??
I have been assured that this router is more than enough for getting the signal over the space between the router and the PC.
    Please any help.
    Thanks in advance.

First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, Bluetooth (including Bluetooth game controllers), microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, and your neighbor's wireless network. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
    Hope this helps.

  • WRT 300N V1 Question/Problem

During a recent power outage(Router is plugged into a Battery Backup) the connection failed.  I reset the modem and the router and it worked on my wired computer.  I'm having trouble with the wireless part of it coming back on.  I've reset(unplugged it for a minute) a few times and it still doesn't give off a wireless signal.
Laptop, Nintendo Wii and Wireless Printer all having the same problem as their is no network available.
