Linksys WRT110 keeps disconnecting

I have a Linksys WRT110 and it worked fine for about the first year or so, but recently it has been intermittenly droping the signal to the point of no connection at all. Is there an update or anything I can do about this? I contacted tech support, and conveniently since my warranty is up I have to pay for their help with this...
(Mod note: Off topic remarks removed. Thanks!)

It would drop it when I was using my iPhone and when my wife used her laptop. It was very intermittent and never stayed offline for the same amount of time. Sometimes it would be less than a minute, sometimes more. Occasionally I had to turn wifi off on my phone, then turn it back on just to get the wifi going again.
It was dropping the wired connection a few months back, but it got solved on here. Had to to a complete reset.

  • Linksys WRT120N Keeps disconnecting

    Greetings everyone!
Well, my problem is that my Cisco Linksys WRT120N router keeps disconnecting, my family and me are all using the wireless connection. But sometimes the router just disconnect us all, its like its restarting, it only close down for like 5 - 10 secounds and then its back on. Sometimes it does it like every secound hour and sometimes it does it 3 times in 10 min. I usually play games on it and even tho I am the only one using it, it still disconnects.
We got 2 wireless cameras running on a secound router that is merged (Thats what the nerd that setted it up for us told me) with the primary existing router. I am not really that good at computer I just dont want to get disconnected all the time.
Have a really good weekend and take care!

    Hi there,
If this is true on both wired and wireless connection, isolate the concern by connecting your computer to the modem directly. Observe the connection while connected to the modem. If the connection is unstable behind the modem, you need to contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to fix the issue. If the connection is fine on the modem, reset and reconfigure the router. If the problem is present only on the wireless connection, you can reconfigure the wireless settings. Change the channel width to 20 MHz only and select channel 1, 6 or 11 to avoid wireless interference. Also make sure the router is on a higher and open location. By the way, it would help if the router’s firmware is up to date.

  • WRT110 Keeps Disconnecting

While using ANY of the three computers on my network, 1 wired XP SP2 box and 2 wireless Vista laptops (1 Vista Business, 1 Vista Home Premium), my WRT110 just completely drops out for about 2 minutes and then comes back like nothing was ever wrong.  I notice this especially on both wireless laptops, it appears that for a brief moment the entire connection drops, then the local connection returns but the internet drops for about 2 minutes.  This is a brand new WRT110 and I'm connected on a brand new HughesNet satellite modem (Modem to WRT110, WRT110 to my computers).  Any suggestions?  This is really frustrating.  Thanks!!

I have having a similar issue.
I have a brand new WRT110 and a brand new Motorola SB5101 Surfboard cable modem.
When I bought the WRT110, I got online with live chat, and a very helpful gentleman helped me get everything set up ... that was two or three days ago.
Yesterday, I found out from my cable provider that my cable modem was very outdated, so I upgraded to the SB5101.  I checked all the settings in my router, per the chat log session that I got from the previous day, and everything was great.
But my connection drops repeatedly throughout the day ...
I have a Vista Home wired into the router, and a Vista Home laptop that connects wirelessly.  The laptop is less than 30-40 feet from the router, so I know the issue is NOT with the distance.
I do also have my DirecTV DVR wired (via a cable) into the router, and it, too, has trouble connecting and accessing data from my computers ...
I have the latest firmware on my router.
It is frustrating, especially on the laptop, because when I restart the laptop, I often get limited connectivity or no connectivity.
    Any suggestions?

  • Linksys AC1900 Smart Wi-Fi keep Disconnecting?

    Hi There,
I've installed 2 Linksys Routers AC1900 and E1200, my Local Network is running on AC1900 at least 50-75 devices connected on the same time.
I've checked the Modem (Internet Connection 24 Mbps Dedicated Fiber) and is working fine, but the router AC1900 keep disconnecting from the Internet and due to that my users suffer.
I've checked all the circumstances of failure but no luck. Please guide me.
The following services are disabled on the router:
    Guest Access
    Parental Controls
    Media Prioritization
Wi-Fi Protected Setup (Previously it was ON, but the problem exsits.)
    Mac Filtering
    DMZ
    DDNS
Firewall is enabled, with default rules.
NOTE: I've 2 separate intenert connections (24 Mbps) for both of the routers.
    Thanx in Advance

for both of you, what version is your hardware and what version is your firmware? if they are hardware ver 1.0 then make sure you are running the old firmware version which ends in 156465 and not the version that is 158863. that version is only for the hardware version 1.1. you can get 1.0 version from the linksys web page but be sure to select hw 1.0 in order to see it. once you download it install it from the browser page and your dropouts should get better
you might also want to disable the Cut Through Forwarding on the connectivity page under the admin tab and see if that helps. Please post back and let me know. I am talking to their dev guys about this issue

  • WRT110 voip disconnect

Very disappointed with Linksys routers. My WRT110 router disconnects my VoIP calls after call is answered.
Updated to Firmware Version: 1.0.04 (Got it somewhere on the net. Linksys does not even support it yet!) but the problem resists.
Tried port forwarding and port triggering (as other Linksys routers have this issue) but no luck.
    Anyone knows why this happens?

Thank you for your reply. I have tried it with and without STUN server, forwarded SIP/RTP ports to the ATA (SPA2102), tried ATA in DMZ with no luck. I guess this is happening with SPA2102 because my Siemens C410IP works without any problem. And I did not have this problem on my WRT-160N with DD-WRT firmware.
Linksys must do something about WRT router production line. WRT-160N caused me a lot of problems before using dd-wrt firmware on it.

  • New Toshiba wireless turns Internet connection off (thru Linksys WRT110)

I "commissioned" a new Toshiba A660 (customized) yesterday. We have a DSL line with Motorola modem and Cisco Linksys WRT110 router with one Cat5-connect.  For a brief period the Toshiba could access the Internet thru the wireless (I registered the computer and the Norton AntiVirus.) Subsequently I "activated" or allowed the Toshiba to self-install Bluetooth (built in, but, it appears, not listed in the device manager).
Before the afternoon was over I found that the Toshiba, with WiFi antenna "on" effectively killed my Internet connection.  My Dell, which was hardwired thru the Cisco could not get to the Internet; my Mac, which works wirelessly, could not access the Internet.  When I turn the Toshiba's wireless antenna OFF, Internet access to the other two computers is restored within 45-60 seconds. This situation persisted after a "Restore to Factory" procedure this morning, where the Toshiba killed our Internet access during or shortly after the "configuring the desktop" portion of the hour-long restoration.
Another call to, and call-back from, Toshiba tech support resulted in their suggestions that 1) I should see if my computer crashes someone else's Internet connection and 2) that it must be the Cisco.
The Toshiba behaves itself when connected to the Cisco via Cat5 (as long as the wireless antenna is not turned on).
So, Cisco, Do I need a router upgrade to keep the Toshiba from killing my Internet connection?

  • WRT310n keeps disconnecting using PPoE

About 3 months ago I purchased a brand new Linksys wrt310n, set it all up and working find on DSL using PPoE. I upgraded the firmware to latest version more than a month ago, the router is being working fine all along. All of the sudden, one Sunday afternoon the router keeps on connecting to my ISP with the same PPoE settings I had there originally, then I get 2 type of issues, sometimes the router will come back and say it cannot get an IP Address, but most times it will try to authenticate using its PPoE settings, then it gets connected, stays connected for about 5 minutes and during those 5 minutes when I browse the web, the responses are very very very slow and pages don't display, eventually the connection disconnects and keeps retying, the PPoE settings keeps disconnecting. I called my ISP and their end works fine, when I connect a computer directly to the DSL modem and setup the same PPoE settings, the computer works fine and I can browse. Can someone please tell me what's going on with my router? Also if someone out there knows, what's the warranty on these devices? Remember this device is only 3 months old, I understand chances of breaking and all of that as technology is like that, but really how robust are these devices? Anyway back to my issue, can you help?

Make sure that the "Keep Alive" option is checked on the setup page of the router....Also,as you upgraded the router's firmware,I would suggest you to reset the router for 30-35 seconds, power cycle it and re-configure the router from scratch.

  • Wireless router keeps disconnecting...

    Hello there,
I own a Linksys Wireless Router (BERW11S4). I recently updated it's firmware to the latest version (1.52.02) which supports WPA-PSK (TKIP).
I have set the group renewal interval of 7200 seconds, which is the max the software will accept.
My problem is after a certain period, it keeps disconnecting, which i believe is because of the group renewal interval, which can't be turned off. How do I eliminate this problem as it is really annoying to keep re-connecting half-way everytime?
    Thanks in advance.

still disconnecting every hour and then...
    please help. im so frustrated.
any other settings i should try?
    or solution?
    help me out 300N users!

  • USB device keeps disconnecting/connecting after upgrading to Windows 8.1

I have a device(Pedal for Sim Racing) connected via USB, everything is working fine in Windows 7 and 8 but after upgrading my machine to Windows 8.1 the device keeps disconnecting and connecting for like every 2 seconds. But after I open the Property Sheet
in Game Controllers panel the disconnection issue was gone, if I reconnect the device the issue persist. Other people who have similar device also encounters the same issue after upgrading to windows 8.1. The issue persist with or without the device driver
    installed.
Any idea, what might cause this?
    Best regards
    mark

I'v got this exact same problem with my Win 7 desktop.  I've also got pedals and wheel but don't see it as different than all the other USB devices.  I'm using a bunch of USB, but no hubs, including 3 external storage hard drives. But the momentary
disconnect appears in all devices as best as i can see..even my long time trouble free head phones..keyboard..and all.  Sometimes the sound goes away and if I unplug and replug them the sound comes back, and other times I have to exit and re enter the
game. I also get video crashes ..maybe not related.IDK..and have to restart all, because I've got three black screens in Eyefinity. For years my system was trouble free and its just slowly started getting worse. I've thought it had to do with system "sleep"
etc but long ago went to never sleep max performance etc..Makes no difference. Keep thinking its my hardware or my house wiring etc..But can't seem to solve it. I replaced my Mobo/chip/ram maybe 6 months ago and that appears to have not helped.  It seems
to be getting worse. I hate to start replacing parts piece by piece..cost a lot of money and sometimes doesn't help.
When I'm playing a game I can often hear "faint" sound of USB connect disconnect happening with regularity..that little bing/boink sound etc..So it must just be constantly happening...Seems weird. Didn't have anything like this happening years
ago with pretty much the same hardware and same Win7 with the continuing updates etc.
What can be causing this common problem?

  • My internet keeps disconnecting

    Hi,
I have seen many posts now about macusers having the same problem as me. I have recently upgraded to IOS Lion and have kept the software updted on a weekly basis.
For some reason my wireless internet keeps disconnecting at speradic times during the day and it has become very irritating. It is not the connection as my PC, Iphone and Ipads are connected while both my Macbook pros decide to go wandering. I never had this problem when i was using the previous operating system but i see other uses had problems with that as well.
Does anyone have any fixes for the problem or know of any patches that can solve the problems. Please help a very irritated Macuser.
    Thanks Nobby

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly
the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the
router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power
cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable
to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug
in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!

  • External hard drive keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting

External hard drive on Time Machine, running via USB keeps disconnecting. Get the pop us that the drive wasn't disconnected properly. This Mac is brand new as is the hard drive. It is a Seagate 1T Free Agent.
After a minute or two it reconnects. I've run Seagate diagnostics and it says the drive is fine.
    Any suggestions?

See #A1 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), for a handy widget that will display the backup messages from your logs.
See what that shows; there may be a problem with the backup, which results in TM ejecting the drive. If so, the disconnect may be a symptom, not a cause. If so, see #C2 there. If not, or if you're not sure, copy and post them here.
Also, to rule out other USB problems, disconnect everything but keyboard and mouse; connect the drive directly to your Mac (no hub).
Make sure all connections are snug and secure.
Try other ports, cables, and combinations of the two (a plug that works fine in one port may not make good contact in another one, and throw intermittent errors).

  • My iphone external hard drive keeps disconnecting so it tells me I disconnected improperly. I have changed electric cord directly to outlet and usb also direct, and it still happens.

I store ALL my photos (400 events) on an external 1T hard drive. The hard drive keeps disconnecting so it get a msg telling me I disconnected improperly basically which is a serious no no. I then have to re-start. I have tried connecting directly to the wall outlet, to a super duper surge protector and also have connected the usb (was on a usb port) directly to the computer. But it continues to happen a total nusance. What do I do?

I would first contact  Seagate's tech support for a possible solution. If that doesn't prove successful then I would try a different product or consider building your own.
    Basic Backup
Get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    Silver Keeper
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    SuperDuper!
    Synchronize Pro! X
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
    Cool Drives
    OWC
    WiebeTech
    Firewire Direct
    California Drives
    NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.
