Linksys WRT160N-SG, unable to Operate

I selected: Static IP
Static IP:192.168.0.100
Subnet: 255.255.255.252
Gateway:192.168.0.1
DNS: 60.49.166.105
I am a Malaysian, using Streamyx here, I search some articles shows that the ISP given is 60.49.166.105 or 60.49.166.106.
Am I right in the setup? Why I am still unable to online though successful to connect after the setup configuration?
Please advise. Thank You.

Well the router that you have is a SOHO (Small Office Home Office) device and which does not support the subnet '255.255.255.252'. It has to be 255.255.255.0.

  • Macbook pro and linksys WRT160N compatibility

    Hi,
I just bought a Linksys WRT160N wireless draft N router. I am able to connect to my wireless router, but when I use Network Utility to check the speeds, I am told the linkrate is only 130Mbit/s. As I understand wireless N should give linkrates of 300Mbits/s.
The router runs on the latest linksys firmware and I use a 15" 2.2GHz MBP. I wonder what's the problem and how do i fix it such the my wireless N router is able to run at full speeds?
    Thanks for any help offered.

Pretty sure that model is not "dual band" which means it only operates on the 2.4ghz spectrum (not 2.4 & 5ghz). The max for the 2.4 ghz band is 130mbit.
I believe Linksys has a more expensive "dual band" model that does 5ghz which will give you 270mbit speeds although i've personally experienced 300mbit.
    hope this helps.

  • Problem connecting the WIi and linksys WRT160N

I recently bought a new linksys WRT160N so that i can give my wii wi-fi however my wii is still unable to connect to the internet. My wii can find my router but when it is performing a connection test i get an error. The error code is 51330. Any help will be appreciated, thank you.

To fix this error message there are a few things you can try:
Set your router to Mixed Mode.
If it is set to G-Only it will not work.
Set the channel on your router to either 1 or 11.
Set the Wireless Security to WEP(not WPA?WPA2).Also make sure you enter the correct WEP/Network Key when prompted...
All these settings can be found in the wireless tab and wireless security subtab on your router.

  • How to connect my Mac Book Pro to Linksys WRT160N router

    HI,
I just bought a   Linksys WRT160N router. I pop the installation disk in my mac book pro and walk thru the installation procedure successfully.
But I can't connect wirelessly from my MacBook Pro (running mac os x 10.5).
It sees the router and I did type in the password correctly (i copy from the text file generated by the installation procedure), but I keep getting 'coonnection timeout'.
Anyone has similar problem and know how to fix it?
    Thank you.

I experienced this behavior today.  My client had a WRT160N version 3 running on firmware 3.0.02.  I upgraded it to the current version, 3.0.03, because checking for upgrades is part of the service I provide to my clients.  After that point, I could not connect wirelessly -- I got the "connection timeout" message every time I provided the password.  Reviewing the firmware release notes, I saw a mention of "Fixed wireless channel 11 being unstable."  My client was operating on channel 11.  When I moved the router to channel 1, bingo -- the wireless connected perfectly.  And no, no one in the vicinity was running another network on 11 -- there was only one other, and he was on 6, which is non-overlapping.
The best part was when I called Cisco for help and got told there would be a charge for assistance to solve the problem their own firmware obviously caused, that (unlike every other manufacturer in the business) they don't recommend people upgrading their firmware unless something is clearly broken (where is that on the website or in the upgrade instructions, please?), and that they don't keep copies of the older firmware.

  • How do I make an Airport Extreme work with a Linksys WRT160N

I have a Linksys WRT160N V3 Router that I have connected to my cable modem. I have an iMac in another room along with a PC based laptop. Range is fine to get them to connect wirelessly. However what I would like to do is to also connect my Blu-Ray device to the internet. However it isn't wireless. I was told I could use an Airport Extreme to bridge to my WRT160N. What I want to do is hardwire connect my Blu-Ray player and perhaps my iMac to the Airport Extreme using my WRT160n's access to the cable modem. Basically I'm trying to make to wirelss routers talk to each other. I can't seem to make the Airport Extreme work. Any assistance would be great.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Welcome to the discussions, Gonzotoo!
+I was told I could use an Airport Extreme to bridge to my WRT160N+
Unfortunately, this is not correct. The AirPort Extreme does not have the capability that you need. If you could connect the Linksys and Extreme together using an ethernet cable, it would function as you wish. Or, if it's not possible to connect them using an ethernet cable, you might take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by using the AC wiring in your home.

  • Will the Linksys WRT160N work with windows vista at all?

Will the Linksys WRT160N work with windows vista at all?
Some one please clear this up for me, it could be answered in the simplestterms from the English Language of course.
I've recently purchased the Linksys WRT160N however after purchase "of course"I manage to find reviews stating that the router will not work with the WindowsVista Premium, or windows Vista for that matter.
E.g.(Comments like These 'which are not my own')----------
"When I tried it with a new computer running Vista 64, it would install but the Linksys System Advisor would not. After 1 chat and 4 phone calls with support the system will still not run."
"It is a good product with XP, but if you use Vista 64 good luck. After several hours of working to get it running my patience and options have run out."
"It has taken almost a week for us to figure out that the Linksys Router, WRT160N from Best Buy does not workwith Vista Premium. I looked on-line to Linksys Website and discovered that the router, WRT160N is notsupported for Vista users. .."
E.g. (CommentContradicting to what has been said above)------
"Bought this to replace my outdated Linksys (new Vista laptop) and was blown away. Thisthing practically set itself up. It replaced the wired router and wireless routers I was using, asthe signal strength is awesome. I'm still pulling over 5meg ... "
So I guess one could see why I am confused, based on the 2 sidedcontradictions pertaining to this router actually working with windows vista ornot.
So can someone respond (preferable a Vista User) and tell me the truth as of towhat this router can an cannot do in terms of Vista? Thanks

It should work with vista without any issues if you are running any software on the computers (64 bit) from linksys it may not work but if you will connect that computer with an ethernet to the router it should work fine.

  • Linksys WRT160N Online Downloading issues Please help!!

Ok guys im a newbie to this Networking way of life.
Your help is greatly needed and appreciated here is my problem.
    Equipment= Comcast motorola modem/Linksys WRT160N Wireless router/Linksys WGA600N wireless gaming adapter
The issue here is i do alot of online gaming through my Xbox 360 console i can host a variety of matches online and for hours and hours at a time no lag what so ever but as you know on the Xbox360 dashboard they incorporate a wide range of downloaded content whether it be for your game library or media when I click on content to download no matter the size of the file the speed is terrible it takes about 5-10mins to get from 1% to 3% and just sits there for even a longer period of time as it is at this rate I will have to wait anywhere from 1-2hrs to download a demo or a video or netflix movie. I've contacted tech supp on this and trouble shooted different scenarios I have also port forwarded the ports and I'm still having this issue.
The Wireless router is located 15feet away from the gaming adapter FYI
    Please advise!!!!

This may be a little old, but I have a WGA600N and a WRT610N..  I've had much the same problems but here is what I've discovered that may help.
The WGA600N in the initial setup connected to your computer doesnt have a means of specifying exactly how you want to connect to your wireless (no channel, band, etc).  What ends up happening is that you set your wireless on your router to be "mixed" and the adapter will constantly switch channels.
I went so far as to specify on my 5ghz band on the router that it be "N-Only" and the adapter still gave sluggish performance.
On a whim, after reading some advice I re-setup my adapter and gave it a static IP address outside of the range of my DHCP settings.  This still gave me no better performance.
Then, I decided to try hitting the static IP of the adapter in my browser, and voila!  I can access all the advanced settings of the adapter that you couldn't during the initial setup connected to the computer.  My adapter is using the 1.00 release and I'm able to finally tell the adapter to use "N-Only" as it defaults to "Mixed" mode and will channel surf on you dropping connections.
Having played with both my WGA600N and WRT610N, I can hope for a better firmware release soon but hopefully these tips help you set up your adapter and router a bit better.
    Good luck!

  • Does W500 Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN) talk 802.11n w/ Linksys WRT160N?

The subject line pretty much says it all*. Does anyone have any concrete experience with 802.11n on a newer Thinkpad with the "Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN)" card talking to a Linksys WRT160N? With Fedora?

    Hello Joe,
I"m running into a simuliar problem but a bit more generic. I'm using SuSE11.1RC5 which should support this hardware in the kernel. I can see all the accesspoints around me but cannot connect. Even when I set mine to open I don't get any results. I undestand that I'm running a prelease version, but one would think if it can hear, it should be able to connect.
The hardware works fine under Windowz. (W500 with the Intel Link 5300 (AGN))

  • Using AirPort Express to extend my Linksys WRT160N router signal

I am currently using a Linksys WRT160n v2 Wireless Router in my home, but the signal in certain places is quite weak. Therefore, I bought an AirPort Express and was told that this could be used to boost my signal to the weak areas.
I am not sure how to accomplish this and need help!! I realize that using an AirPort Extreme Router would be easier, I just don't have the cash to purchase one right now. Is there anyone who can guide me through setting up my AirPort as a range extender for my Linksys WRT160n v2 Router?
    Thank you in advance!!
    Timothy Kortman

Why did you not just look into buying a Linksys Range extender instead of the Airport Ex?
There are also extenders from Hawking Tech that would have worked just fine like this one http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=32&FamID=105&ProdID=39 4 .
    +*An aside...*+
i wished Linksys would have kept the detachable antenna design on their new routers, that way extending it's range would just be a matter of getting higher dbi antennas which are more cheaper than range expanders.
I currently have a run of the mill TrendNet router but hooked up to a high gain Hawking antenna and it outperforms most routers twice/thrice its price.

  • Can I connect my Linksys WRT160N V3 with Airport Extreme via ethernet cable?

I have a Linksys WRT160N V3 router (Living Room) to my cable modem but the wifi does not reach certain spots in the house where its necessary.  If I buy a Airport Extreme and place it in my bedroom and connect it with an ethernet cable that I have connected with my iMac will the airport extreme work as a wifi extender since wifi does not reach my room?

Yes, the AE can be simply put in bridge mode so it will become an AP and set the wireless to create a wireless network.. you can then use same name and same security as linksys.. this is called roaming network.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4260
Although the apple instructions have two apple routers, any two wireless routers will work the same way.

  • Extend Linksys WRT160N wireless network with Airport Express

First off, I'm a network simpleton, so please keep that in mind!
I've seen similar posts, but I'm not sure definitively if this is possible. Trying to extend the wireless network from a linksys wrt160N with the airport. Is this possible without a phd in network engineering? If so, are there step by step instructions someplace that can help me?
    I really appreciate any direction!

    Welcome to the discussions!
I'm assuming that you are trying to do this using wireless only.
Apple's "extend a wireless network" feature will only work if both the main router and extending device are Apple "n" devices. Unfortunately, this feature is not compatible with devices from other manufacturers.

  • My iPhone 3GS won't connect to my Linksys WRT160N v3

I have an iPhone 3GS and figured what a great idea it would be to have a wireless network in my house!  So i bought a Linksys WRT160N v3 wireless router.  And problems galore!  I can connect to my network alright but my iPhone won't switch over to "wireless" mode if you know what i mean.  It remains in "3G" mode. Not sure why it won't switch over.  After doing some research, i may have stumbled upon the problem...maybe?   Looking at the specs of an iPhone 3GS, it appears that it doesn't support "N" routers(i.e. 802.11 b/g - but no "N")  So did i screw up and buy the wrong router?  Is this router backwards compatible?
    Thanks!
    Dave

Same problem with Linksys WR160N and WiFi iPhone connection. No matter what you do it won't connect. It DOES for about 3min and then kicks you out, period.
I just bought this Linksys WR160N and my OLD Linksys G worked 100% better then this.

  • LINKSYS WRT160N speed problems

    Hello,
I have WRT160N router. Lately I figured out that my downloading speed is much , much lower than it shoud be. After restarting the router the speed was ok, but started to fall down and after a min or two became very slow once again. I repeated routers reboot at least 5 times, and have always the same result. So i disconnected all other devices, disabled wirless, updated firmware to the last one (even if it alredy was a last one), performed master reset fwe times and followed the instructions on how to connect the router to the cable modem. Yet, nothing helps, getting the same picture once again. Tried to lower MTU, not helping. Connected the modem directely to the computer, the speed is stable as it should, tested more than 15 minutes. Tried everything once again, no result, speed continuesly falling down from the moment the router connects to the internet. Please help...

Thank you, the speed was dropping down even when all wireless devices were turned off and wireless network was desabled. Hence I do not beleive any wireless configurations might give any change. I have lowered MTU before it aint helping. For some low MTU settings, like 1300 and below the downloading speed never rises above half of desired one. I have a call with the linkys tech support, they advised me to return back the router to the store. I did'n do that, cause in my country the seller is not willing to change unworking hardware. So I did the last thing I could .... burned another company firmware beta version that suits for this router, now everything is working great, but I'll keep testing it for a longer period, before getting any final conclusions. Of caurse no warranty will be covered by linksys any more, it is perfectly clear for me, but with such customer support in the shopps, that I have in my homeland, its still, somehow, better than tipping the rubbish. thank you once again

    Hi Loch13,
Can you still get online from the router's unsecured network? You may reconfigure the settings of the router. Refer to these on how to configure the router again.

  • Linksys wrt160n wireless setup?

I have a mac mini and just bought a new wireless router. and have a cable modem I can get a connection through the ethernet cable (wired) but I am dumb founded on how to get it to setup wirelessly. The cd setup only has a wired instruction setup. I went to the basic setup on the linksys 192.168.1.1 address but I am clueless as to which configuration to setup once I get there. I see the wireless page on it but am not sure what to do? I have setup a username and password but as far as getting the cable modem address and telling it to use the router wirelessly I haven't a clue.
    Thanks for any detailed help

I noticed that your router is wrt160n
    Mac Mini specs show
Built-in 54-Mbps AirPort Extreme wireless networking (based on 802.11g standard)
So you will need to be sure to set up the wireless network to be G compatible.
You can go to this page:
    http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=LProductC2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1175239516849&packedargs=site%3DUS&pagename=Lin ksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=1684906598B01
For setup instructions and to check for Firmware updates.
    Hope that helps.
